When Jesus entered Jerusalem the crowd went wild. Yet His final week would be marked by a tragic chain of events including the threat of death, the reality of betrayal, denial and unjust trials leading to His death on Calvary Hill for the sins of the world. With the stress of fast moving events Jesus needed a time of prayer and solace. He selected a place He often visited with His disciples, the Mount of Olives (Mark 14:26). There in the Garden of Gethsemane Jesus poured out His heart to God.

This is the hardest prayer because it requires complete relinquishment. Luke, the physician and gospel writer, describes both the humanity of Jesus as well as the gravity of the situation. “And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground” (Luke 22:44).

AGE 73 – PLAINWELL, MI Pamela passed away Saturday, March 10, 2018 in Kalamazoo. Pam was born July 19, 1944 in Kalamazoo to Mott John and Eleanor (Schultz) Blossom. She was a graduate of Kalamazoo Valley Community College and had worked for Aggregate Gravel Co. Pam loved all animals, enjoyed scrapbooking and her small group Bible studies. Surviving are her husband Richard; daughters, Christine (Patrick) Bynum of Kalamazoo and Melissa (Rodney) Carroll of Otsego; 4 grandchildren, Ashley, Joseph, Brinn and Brooklyn; brother Fred Blossom of TN and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson Austin Bynum. Funeral Services were held Thursday, March 15, 2018. Pastor Darin Youngs officiated. Burial followed at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego. Contributions in memory of Pam may be made to Arthritis Foundation or Kalamazoo Humane Society. Erwin "Jack" HONEYSETT AGE 90 – OTSEGO, MI

Erwin died Saturday, February 10, 2018 at the Battle Creek V.A. Nursing Home. He was born January 19, 1928 to Claude and Hulda (Amick) Honeysett of Plainwell. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and three brothers. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruth in 1995 and his daughter, Barbara in 2015. Jack is survived by two daughters, Joann and Sandy, both of Gobles, his son Robert, his brother Ivan (Sadie) Honeysett of Plainwell, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Also surviving is his companion of 20 years, Mary Merchant and her family. In keeping with his wishes, Jack has been cremated. A private burial ceremony will take place at a later date.

Marian L. HOFACKER-STOUGHTON AGE 83 – OTSEGO, MI

Marian passed away Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo. She was born February 28, 1935 in Kalamazoo the daughter of Everett and Beulah (Pike) Wiggins. Marian finished high school in 1977 and graduated with her mother, daughter and cousin, Harry. She had worked at Angle Steel, McPherson Cleaners, Big Top in the flower department and had owned and operated M&M Ceramics. Marian was a skilled seamstress and quilter and enjoyed working with her hands. She also enjoyed gardening and fishing. Most of all she loved walking in the rain and always encouraged her children and grandchildren to jump in the mud puddles. She was a volunteer with Wings of Hope Hospice for 25 years and was a member of the Island City Quilt Guild and Chula Vista Garden Club. On June 18, 1952 she married Merle Hofacker who passed away in 2006. In December 2009 she married Morris Stoughton who survives. Also surviving are her children, Lee Roy Hofacker of Kalamazoo, Weston (Valley) Hofacker of TN, Mark Hofacker of Pullman, Cindy Hofacker of Plainwell and Frank (Bobbi) Hofacker of Cooper Township; 9 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren and her siblings, Bill Wiggins, Frances Steinbach, Phyllis Jones and Mike Wiggins. She was preceded in death by her first husband; son, Warren Hofacker; daughter-in-law, Vicki Lee and her siblings, Wayne, Buddy, Everett and Terry Wiggins and Martha Redson. Funeral services took place Thursday, March 15, 2018. Celebrant Bill Rose officiated. Burial followed at Hillside Cemetery, Plainwell. Richard H. “Dick” NEUMANN AGE 91 – KALAMAZOO, MI

Dick passed away Sunday, March 11, 2018 at Life Care Center in Plainwell. He was born May 1, 1926 in Cheboygan, MI the son of Edward and Emma (Knaffle) Neumann. Dick served his country in the US Army as a Technical Motor Sergeant during WWII and was part of the US Constabulary after the war. For 33 years he had worked as a rural mailman for the US Postal Service until his retirement in 1983. In his spare time Dick enjoyed building and remodeling homes, traveling, snowmobiling, boating, upholstering furniture and working on motors. He helped to build Peace Lutheran Church in Otsego in 1957 and helped start Hope Lutheran Church of Plainwell in 1980. Dick was a member of the American Legion for 64 years and the National Association of Letter Carriers for 65 years. On October 12, 1950 at St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Cheboygan he married Carol Ritter who survives. Also surviving are his son, Brad (Pam) Neumann of Kalamazoo; siblings, Frieda Brandau and Louis Neumann both of Cheboygan and Gladys Mees of Tucson, AZ along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Ruth Neumann, Rose Neumann and Lucille Socha and by an infant brother. According to his wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later time. Burial of ashes will take place at Lakeside Cemetery in Mackinaw City, Michigan at a later time. Military Honors by the Mackinaw City American Legion. Contributions in memory of Dick may be made to Hope Lutheran Church of Plainwell Teen Activities Fund or St. Thomas Lutheran Church of Cheboygan.
