Requirements for RUBBISH PICK-UP

1. All residents living on private roads must have the trash placed at the end of the road in a pile. 2. Refuse must be limited to what two men can lift. 3. Barrels with both ends cannot be picked up; land fills will not accept them. 4. All barrels, including barrels with trash in them, will be taken. Any barrel or container too heavy for two men to pick up will not be taken. 5. Trash piles should be located within easy reach from the road, not 20 to 30 feet, for the convenience of the trash haulers. 6. All objects must be bagged or put in containers that will be picked up. No loose materials will be picked up. 7. Containers must be left at curbside and they will not be returned. 8. Old appliances will be picked up if they can be lifted by two men. No refrigerators, freezers or air conditioners unless refrigerants are removed by a professional and tagged. Remember... Appliances can be recycled. 9. NO YARD WASTE! 10. NO BUILDING MATERIALS WILL BE PICKED UP 11. NO TIRES WILL BE PICKED UP 12. NO GARBAGE or container for food products will be picked up. 13. NO ROCKS, SAND, CONCRETE, RUBBLE OR DEAD ANIMALS will be picked up. 14. No motor oil or containers with liquids such as oil based and latex paint. Cans with dried paint are acceptable if lids are removed. 15. No call backs will be made if refuse is placed after the truck has serviced your house. 16. Complaints will be verified (field checked) by Township personnel and checked against driver’s log. 17. Any item not picked up because of the above reasons must be taken off the curbside and stored out of sight by noon of the day following each pick-up. 18. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. He Has Risen!

Let those words sink in. They are life-giving, lifechanging and life-empowering words. Without the resurrection of Jesus Christ nothing makes sense. The Apostle Paul said “If Christ has not been raised from the dead; your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. Then those who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men” (I Corinthians 15:17-19). C.S. Lewis, an intellectual giant of the twentieth century, said “I believe in Christianity as I believe that the Sun has risen, not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.” No other event in history has had such a worldwide impact. According to the Bible, when Jesus was resurrected: • “There was a violent earthquake” (Matthew 28:2) • The soldiers were perplexed (Matthew 28:11) • There was great trembling and fear (Mark l6:8) • The risen Christ appeared to many (I Corinthians 15:3-8) • Death was seen as victory, not defeat (I Corinthians 15:54,55) • The Church was born (Acts 2) • The disciples lives were dramatically changed (Acts 15:26) • Immortality is assured (John 14:19)

Only God can turn defeat into victory and death into eternal life. Thus, on Easter Sunday, many will sing the joyous chorus,

“Up from the grave he arose, with a mighty triumph over his foes; he arose a victor from the dark domain, and he lives forever, with his saints to reign. He arose! He arose! Hallelujah! Christ arose!” (Robert Lowry, l874). Prayer: Dear living God, help us to live with Easter joy! Amen.

Floyd passed away Friday, March 23, 2018 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. He was born September 25, 1946 in Kalamazoo the son of Floyd Sr. and Gladys (Delbridge) Van Meter. Floyd had worked at Murco Meat Packaging in Plainwell and most recently at Lake Park Industries in Indiana. In his free time he enjoyed riding his bike and moped, working out at the gym and watching WWE. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and dressing like Santa for work parties and his family on Christmas morning. Surviving are his children, Keith Van Meter of Paw Paw, Carl (Sandi) Van Meter of Decatur, Melinda VanMeter of Portage and Lyndsay (Dan) Dove of Otsego; 3 grandchildren, Dustin Baker, Carl Van Meter Jr. and Ayla Dove along with many siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents. According to his wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of Floyd’s life will held at 1:00 P.M., Sunday, April 22, 2018, at the Otsego VFW Post #3030. Kim passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2018 in Kalamazoo. She was born September 23, 1961 in Allegan the daughter of George and Norma (McLaughlin) Shipley. Kim was a 1980 Martin High School graduate. She had worked at Harding’s in Otsego and was looking forward to starting a new job with Greenleaf Hospitality Group at the Radisson. Kim was very creative and enjoyed photography, gardening and baking. She liked volunteering and was always willing to help anyone in need. Kim’s greatest accomplishment was raising her two daughters who she loved very much. Surviving are her husband, Bradley Fall; daughters, Danielle Koperski and Ashley Campbell; grandson, Conner Campbell; mother, Norma; siblings, Cliff Shipley, Tim Shipley and Michele (Matt) Doster and niece, Jaiden Shipley. She was preceded in death by her father and grandmother, Lucille McLaughlin. According to her wishes cremation has taken place. Todd Spencer Lull, 55, of Plainwell, MI and formerly of Hopkins, MI passed away Saturday, March 24, 2018 at his home. Born May 29, 1962 in Grand Rapids, MI, he was the son of Marrion Joyce (Curtis) Lull and the late Trayton Spencer Lull. He was the husband of Kathleen Marie (Lovley) Lull. Todd loved spending time outdoors camping and fishing. He also enjoyed hanging out with his kids and adopted kids. Todd worked filling vending machines all over the state at rest areas, state office building and others. He was devoted to his work, often described as a workaholic. Todd would always go right back to work even after receiving his chemo treatments. In addition to his wife and his mother, he is survived by his children, Joyce Horton and husband Jaron, and Trenton Lull; sister-in-law, Elaine Lull; his brother-in-law, Mike Lovley and wife Deb; his grandpuppy, Sweetie Pie and grandkitty, Oreo; and too many friends to mention by name who were considered family. Todd was recently preceded in death by his father, Trayton; and his brother, Hal Alan Lull. Memorial services took place on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Hopkins United Methodist Church. Harriett passed away at Borgess Gardens on March 24, 2018. She was born in Kalamazoo the daughter of the late Harry and Ruth Munson. Harriett was kind and gentle. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She will be missed by all who loved her. Harriett was crafty and enjoyed knitting and crochet. She loved being outdoors spending time in her flower garden. On September 1, 1945, she married Lionel Little who preceded her in passing. She was also preceded in passing by three siblings. After their retirement they moved to Mesick, MI and spent many wonderful years there. Harriett was a loving mother and grandmother who leaves behind special memories for her family. She is survived by four children, Marge (Mike) Bird, Rod (Cathy) Little, Jim (Mary) Little, Greg (Glenda) Little; five grandchildren; other family and friends. Katherine went to be with the Lord Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. She was born February 13, 1931 in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Rose (Russell) Tray. Katherine had been a hostess and model before attending nursing school. She had worked at William Crispe Hospital in Plainwell and Allegan General Hospital in the dietary department for more than 20 years. Katherine was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching baseball and her 8 children play sports. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Otsego. On December 27, 1948 in Burlington, she married Richard Hildebrand who passed away in 2000. Surviving are her children, Bill (Mary) Hildebrand of Shelbyville, Tom (Vonnie) Hildebrand of Martin, Debi (David) Seales of Ft. Wayne, Diana (Greg) Schneider of Washington, Terry (Laurie) Hildebrand of Martin, Tim (Carol) Hildebrand of Martin, Ted (Karen) Hildebrand of Shelbyville and Tracey (Heidi) Hildebrand of Martin; 23 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren and sister-in-law, Naomi Rintoul. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; granddaughter, Nicole Hildebrand; brother, Paul and sister, Rosemary. Funeral services were held March 28, 2018 at Peace Lutheran Church of Otsego. Dolores passed away surrounded by her family, Thursday, March 22, 2018 at Friendship Village in Kalamazoo. She was born December 28, 1931 in Plainwell the daughter of Wendell and Irene (Kelso) Stephenson. For more than 30 years Dolores was the secretary to the superintendent of Plainwell Community Schools until her retirement in 1996. In her spare time she enjoyed doing crosswords puzzles, reading historic novels, following sports, watching old movies, visiting with her friends, working with the election committees and area blood drives and making her famous potato soup for the Christian Neighbors soup suppers. Dolores was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Plainwell. On September 8, 1951 in Plainwell she married Phillip Buffenbarger who passed away in 2005. Surviving are her children, Sue Needham-Wood (Terry Wood) of Kalamazoo, Stephen (Terri) Buffenbarger of Plainwell and Martin (Carolyn) Buffenbarger of Texas; 7 grandchildren, Matthew Needham, Erica Needham-Rausch, Megan (Nick) Salazar, Molly (Nathan Root) Buffenbarger, Bryce (Elyse) Buffenbarger, Kelsey (Drew) Zahn-Melton and Forrest Buffenbarger and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law, Stan Needham; brother, Robert Stephenson along with many aunts and cousins. According to her wishes cremation has taken place. Donald passed away Monday, March 26, 2018 surrounded by his family at his home in Otsego. He was born May 17, 1928 in Chicago, IL, the son of Adelbert and Elizabeth (Masset) Moore. For many years Don had worked as the superintendent of machines at the Mead Corporation until his retirement in 1987. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking, hunting, farming, working in his garden, Civil War history and antique tractors. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Otsego and a former board member of Christian Neighbors. On July 29, 1950 in Otsego he married Rayma Fritz who survives. Also surviving are his daughters, Donna (Russ) Philmon and Marilyn Moore; 9 grandchildren, Stephanie (Neil) Feltenberger, Tanya (Tim) Marsh, Rodney (Renee) Philmon, Abram (Amanda) Braden, Rachel (Adam) Todd, Jaime Braden, Camille (Alex) Dawson, Benjamin Arce and Micah (Abigail) Arce and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Rodney Moore; daughter, Nancy Braden and sister, Margaret Nichols. A funeral service was held Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at the First Baptist Church of Otsego. Pastor Paul Laborde officiated. Burial followed at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego Township. AGE 88 – KALAMAZOO, MI James passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at his home in Kalamazoo. He was born January 17, 1930 in Covington, KY, the son of William and Hennrietta (Foremeyer) Endres and grew up on the family farm in Independence, KY. Jim proudly served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War. For 34 years he had worked at General Motors until his retirement. In his spare time he enjoyed working on the farm, hunting, fishing and traveling the country in his motorhome. Jim was an active member of St. Margaret Catholic Church in Otsego and a Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. On September 11, 1954 in Ludlow, KY he married Marilyn Mershon who preceded him in death in 1999. Surviving are his children, Bill (Diane) Endres of Kalamazoo, Jim (Laura) Endres of Kalamazoo, Bob (Margie) of Davisburg, Cathie (Paul) Matlock of Kalamazoo, Connie Endres of Kalamazoo and Jack (Mary Layne) Endres of Kalamazoo; 11 grandchildren; 1 greatgrandchild; sister-in-law, Joan Endres and his companion, Bea Gauthier. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marilyn in 1999, son, Bart Endres in 1986; brother, Delbert Endres and sister, Betty Kesler.
