During his career Gene Bone II has distinguished himself in all phases of professional endeavor. He was named “Golf Professional of the Year” by the Michigan PGA section in 1999 and “Merchandiser of the Year” by the section in 2009 during his tenure at Treetops. Community Page THE FAMILY OF BILL BUSHEE would like to thank everyone who sent flowers, cards, donations and attended his funeral service on Friday, February 28, 2014. We would like to say a special thank you to Don Boss for ministering to our family and for officiating his service.

Bill left a lasting impression on many who knew him, prompting friends, family, neighbors, and even long-ago acquaintances to attend the service, call or send a card. We greatly appreciate all of the wonderful words of comfort and many happy memories that you have all shared with us. After thanking one of Bill's grandchildren for all the help with the luncheon, she said, "it is just what we do for family."

Because of Bill's wonderful sense of humor and warm smile, he was called a "sweetheart" and "my favorite" by the staff during his recent hospital stay at Borgess Medical Center. We were very pleased to see one of his patient care assistants at the service! Thank you, Dad, for living and leading by example.

I am not sure if this record still stands, but in November and December of l992 Kalamazoo County recorded 53 cloudy days out of 61. That is a lot of cloud cover! It is well documented that the absence of sunlight has a negative effect on the human spirit. Some call it “winter depression.” There are a number of products on the market, as well as therapies such as using a light lamp, forcing yourself outside, joining the gym, wearing bright colors, watching your sugar intake, etc. Here is a remedy from the psalmist. Put your hope in God. In the spiritual realm, it is all about connecting to our Light Source. Remember how John, the gospel writer said it, “In him was life, and that life was the light of men” – John 1:4 There’s the story of an old Scotsman who lived on the west coast of Florida. He was a philosophical type of person who believed two things are necessary for a healthy life (1) Water (2) Sunlight. Thus he would swim every day and get plenty of sunlight. He told of an experience he had sailing on a vessel. For three weeks there was not one crack in the clouds. Many crewmembers became gloomy and sick. But he had a secret that helped keep his spirits up. He said his secret was “make your own sunshine” in your mind. He would remember the golden sunlight of days gone by and would anticipate its return. Take-away: Make your own sunshine by staying close to God. Prayer: Dear Lord, fill us with the light of Your love. In Jesus’ name. Amen. Peace to you and please join us for worship this Sunday in a church where Jesus’ love is lived.

Obituaries Judith Ann HOWRIGON-PECKENS AGE 73 – OTSEGO, MI

Judy passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Tendercare of Kalamazoo. She was born October 19, 1940 in Galien, MI to Gerald and Esther (Truhn) Noggle. For many years she had been employed as an LPN at Life Care Center of Plainwell. In her leisure time she especially enjoyed cooking and baking. Surviving are her husband, John Peckens; her children, Kelly Trevino, Lori Howrigon and Brett Howrigon, all of Otsego; grandchildren, Nichole Trevino and Kasey Trevino; and two great-grandsons, Jacob Ray and Jaxon Ray; a brother, Wayne (Rika) Noggle; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her brother, Elwyn Noggle. Friends may meet with her family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Monday, March 10, 2014 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday with celebrant Bill Rose officiating. Mrs. Reba E. BRASWELL AGE 81 – PLAINWELL, MI

Reba passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014 in Kalamazoo. She was born June 30, 1932 in Otsego, the daughter of James W. and Geneva M. (McClain) Clark. She was a 1950 graduate of Otsego High School and attended the Moody Bible Institute for 2½ years. Reba was a medical transcriptionist and worked several years at Pipp Community Hospital. She attended Oak Grove Bible Church and later the Cooper Baptist Church. On November 24, 1970, she married Asgill B. Braswell and he preceded her in death in 1994. Also preceding her in death were 2 brothers and 4 sisters, Melvin and Carl Crouse, Patricia Vandeville, Nova VanBaalen, Dorothy Martin and Ethel Tripp. Surviving are many nieces and nephews. Friends may meet from 10 to 11am Friday, March 7, 2014 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego where a funeral service will be held at 11:00am Pastor David Ives officiating. Interment will be at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI. Memorial contributions may be made to Oak Grove Bible church. Messages of condolence may be posted at www.WinkelFuneralHome.com
