Please accept this invitation to attend a special informational meeting of the Otsego Area Historical Society at its Museum on Thursday, May 15 at 6:30pm. The Otsego Area Historical Society and Museum are at a crossroads in their organizational life, and we would like your input and help in determining the course for our future direction. Higher than normal heat and electric expenses this past winter stressed the museum’s already-tight finances and made some things pretty clear: that if we want to continue a museum in Otsego, we will need to change in order to survive and thrive.

This meeting will not be a request for financial help, but it will be a request for your ideas, your leadership and volunteer help. The current board recognizes that the museum will never be successful without the right people, ideas and long term planning in place. We recognize the potential value a museum has for its community, and how Otsego is unique in possessing its own historic museum facility. However, we also know that we are currently not doing what it takes to be successful and that changes are needed. Board members will provide attendees with a presentation featuring a historical perspective of the museum’s finances, activities, building issues, and other background information. In turn, we would appreciate your thoughts and input.

As a young boy, the mother of William Taft said her Willy needed constant watching and correcting. It was said Woodrow Wilson was an unashamed Mama’s boy.

It was said Franklin D. Roosevelt did not dare go anywhere without his mother and that included Harvard University!

Dwight D. Eisenhower was asked who the greatest man he had ever met was. He said, “It wasn’t a man. It was a woman, my mother.” He described his mother as a saintly and smart lady.

John F. Kennedy, of course, held his mother in the highest esteem.

Other examples could be cited. Regardless of fame or social status, the point remains: A mother’s influence is timeless … something that brings light to our lives on earth and brightens all eternity. “ … Her lamp never goes out at night.” Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for our mothers both past and present. Obituaries Raymond BAKER AGE 89 – OTSEGO, MI

Raymond passed away Saturday, May 3, 2014. Raymond was born March 7, 1925 in Otsego, MI the son of Alfred and Anna (Beck) Baker. Ray worked as a farmer for several years before serving his country in the United States Army during WWII until his honorable discharge in 1943. Following his time in the service Ray had worked for North American Aluminum, Anno, Kal & Charles Service. He was married to Joyce Langeance Hall on December 4, 1954 in Otsego, MI. He enjoyed camping, yard work, flower gardening, working with his hands and being outside. Ray also enjoyed working alongside his wife Joyce as she ran Wee World Daycare out of their home for 13 years, Ray became known as Papa Ray. He is survived by his children, Kathi (Dave) Tice of Allegan, Kevin (Tina) Baker of Allegan, Kristine Baker of Anderson, IN, Kimberly Baker of Allegan, Kenneth Baker of Allegan and Kyle (Lori) Baker of Otsego ; 8 grandchildren, Brian Tice, Amy (Doug) Brink, Jerry Baker, Jason Baker, Matthew Baker, David Baker, Jamie Myers and Angela Boyett; 13 great-grandchildren; siblings, Leona Bial, Verla Pillars, Dorothy Bronkema and Francis “Hank” Baker and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Baker and Anna Baker Klok; wife Joyce Baker in 2013; daughter, Karolyn Bayliff in 2002; and grandson, Kenneth Ray Baker II in 2006. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at the Otsego Church of God, Pastor Stephen Burrow officiating. Burial of ashes will follow at Mountain Home Cemetery with Military Honors by Otsego VFW Post #3030. Scott passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 3, 2014. Scott was born on August 28, 1965 in Saginaw. He was a 1983 graduate of Bridgeport High School, where he excelled in basketball and track. After high school he followed his high school sweetheart, Linda Krutsch, to Western Michigan University, where he would later receive his Bachelor’s degree. On December 10, 1988 Scott and Linda were married and had two children, Lauren Grace and Tyler. They were the love of his life. For over 19 years, Scott was able to serve the community as a police officer with the Otsego Police Department. In addition to his family, Scott loved his home, spending time with friends, sports, following Western Michigan basketball and anything Notre Dame! Even though Scott’s life came to an end, way too soon, he will live on in the hearts of all that loved him. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Linda; daughter: Lauren Grace Warner, of Plainwell; parents: Ronnie Warner, of Bridgeport; Sharon (Larry) Dorey, of Freeland; sister: Sallie (Roger) WarnerMejia, of Saginaw; mother-in-law: Jacqueline “Jac” Krutsch, of Charlevoix; brother-in-law: James (Joelyn), of IN: as well as his nieces and nephews: Brandon, Colleen, Kevin, Joshua, and Brianna. Catherine J. PEACOCK AGE 82 – CENTREVILLE, MI Formerly of Otsego

Catherine passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2014. Cathy was born in Kalamazoo, MI on March 15, 1932 to Charles and Josephine (Deurloo) Barton. Cathy graduated from Otsego High School with the class of 1950. On June 20, 1952 she was married to Donald Peacock at the Otsego United Methodist Church. She and Don continued to live in Otsego until 1965 when work moved them to Centreville, MI. Cathy loved the arts and was a skilled spinner and knitter and a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. Cathy had worked at the abstract office in St. Joseph County and had also been an advocate for the probate court. She had volunteered for the St. Joseph County Election Board, the St. Joseph County Fair and for Red Cross blood drives for many years. Catherine had also served as the Village President for Centreville for several years. She enjoyed birds and the wildlife around Pine Lake where she spent many summers. The most important things in her life were her friends and her family members. Catherine is survived by her children, Ray (Ruth Ann) Peacock of WI, Sue (Ted) Jusczcak of Sturgis, Molly (Tony) Ettwein of Portage and Bill (Yolanda) of TX; 9 grandchildren; 10 greatgrandchildren; siblings, Charles (Naomi) Barton of Otsego and Jo Ann VanderBorgh of Plainwell. Cathy was preceded in death by her husband Don in 2001; grandson Benjamin and by her parents. The memorial service was held Thursday, May 8th at the Otsego United Methodist Church with Pastor Joe Shaler officiating. Burial of ashes took place at Mt. Home Cemetery.
