• In 2016 we fed 722 households which totals 2,147 individuals and 2,701 pantry visits • Each month that a client visits our food pantry they are given 5 days worth of food for each member of their household • Clients get to shop and choose their food items they aren’t simply handed a food box • Our pantry offers not only non-perishable goods, but also frozen meats, eggs, cheese, butter, bread items, and fresh produce (when available/in season) • In addition to food, clients receive personal care and household items (shampoo, diapers, toilet paper, etc.) which food stamps do NOT cover.

Our community donated $155,622 worth of food to our pantry last year. This amazing gift equals 70% of the total expense to maintain our pantry!

The Gospel says that the inescapable condition of entrance into the divine fellowship is that we turn and become as a little child, tender and full of wonder ...” To see God through the eyes of children is to show genuineness, trust, acceptance, enthusiasm and openness in our relationship with God. Childlike faith is not only the way to God’s kingdom. It helps to make the world a better place.

Larry passed away Thursday, May 11, 2017 at his home in Plainwell. He was born March 30, 1951 in Plainwell the son of Lawrence and Marie (Meacham) Middlestadt. Larry served his country in the US Air Force. He had worked at the Big Top Grocery in Plainwell and at Checker Motor Company. On December 24, 1973 in Thailand he married Somkoun “Gonya” Meekai who survives. Also surviving are his children, Jonathon “J.J.” Middlestadt of Kalamazoo and Cheriann Stevens of Martin; grandson, Billy Stevens; sister, Terry Shook and brother, Darrell Middlestadt. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Caroline and brother-in-law, Denny. A funeral service was held Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Plainwell Assembly of God Church with Pastor Dave Alderman officiating. Burial took place at Fort Custer National Cemetery. O.D. passed away, Thursday, May 18, 2017 surrounded by his loving family at his home in Plainwell. He was born August 17, 1942 in Mountain Home, Arkansas the son of George and Julia (Barker) Sites. O.D. had worked as a potato farmer for most of his life and had retired from Denniston Farms in Plainwell after over 40 years. In his spare time he enjoyed working on old cars, bowling, doing puzzles, playing cards, making people laugh and picking on those he loved. In 1970 in Otsego he married Roberta “Bert” Robinson who survives. Also surviving are his children, Kathy (Charles) Dennany of Allegan, Lori (Jared) Richards of Plainwell and Valerie (Phil) Richar of Plainwell; 4 grandchildren, Jason, Bradley, Kaylee and Samantha; 2 great-grandchildren, Lucas and Landen; siblings, Edna Todd and Gene Sites along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Nathan, Nolan, Dean, Kate and Lonnia. According to his wishes cremation has taken place. A gathering for friends and family will be held from 2-5 P.M., Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the home of Valerie and Phil Richar. Shirley passed away Friday, May 12, 2017 at her home in Otsego. She was born November 24, 1945 in Plainwell the daughter of Homer and Margaret (Jones) Cameron. For many years she had worked at Dick Ulrich Onion Farms. On June 17, 1989 she married Donald Edwards who survives. Also surviving are her children, Anthony Tank, Herman Tank and Antoinette Nash, 4 granddaughters and 1 grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Jimmy. According to her wishes cremation has taken place. Contributions in memory of Shirley may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

John passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2017 surrounded by his family at his home in Wayland. He was born November 19, 1933 in Hopkins the son of John and Halda (Schafer) Opperman. John proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He had worked for Pet Milk and at Dean Foods for 47 years until his retirement. John served on the Wayland Fire Department for 10 years. Surviving are his children, John (Shawna) Opperman, Joyi (Bill) Merritt and Laurie (Tim) McCormik; five grandchildren; 7 greatgrandchildren and companion, Sue Ingram. He was preceded in death by his son, Jeff and siblings, Ken, Donald, Duane and Marie. A funeral was held Saturday, May 13th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wayland with Pastor Rick Scheibe officiating. Cremation followed. John’s family would like to thank Faith Hospice for the wonderful care John received and the Wayland Fire Department. Randy passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at his home in Otsego. He was born January 26, 1949 in Kalamazoo the son of Edith (Henry) and Herman Weaver. Randy served his country the US Navy during the Vietnam Crisis. He had worked at Gibson Guitar and for over 25 years had worked for Mead and Rock Tenn. In his spare time Randy loved riding motorcycles and taking care of his animals. On October 31, 1966 in Norfolk, Virginia he married Londa Peterson who survives. Also surviving are his children, Morgan Weaver of Martin and Art (Becky) Weaver of Plainwell; 2 grandchildren, Alexis and Brianna Weaver and siblings, Judy of TX, Linda of PA, Margie of IN, Dianna of MI and Meredith of MI, sister-in-law, Kathy of MI and brother -in-law, Larry of MI along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ray. According to his wishes cremation has taken place. Randy’s family encourages everyone to raise a cup of coffee in Randy’s memory.
