The story is told of two brothers who had not seen each other for many years. They arranged to meet at a busy airport in one of our major cities. They wondered if they would even recognize each other after so many years. The day came for them to meet again. The younger brother, seeing his brother in the crowded airport, said “There he is!” He ran to meet him. The older brother said, “How did you know it was me?” The younger brother said, “I knew it was you. You have our father’s walk.”

Question: Are we known for our walk with God?

One of the amazing stories in the Old Testament is the story of Enoch. The Bible says “Enoch walked faithfully with God for three hundred years and lived a total of 365 years (Genesis 5:22, 23). In Genesis 5:24 we read, “Enoch walked with God; then he was no more because God took him away.” Apparently, Enoch had a very close relationship with God. His story is explained in this way. Enoch and God often took long walks together. One late evening God said to Enoch “Since the hour is late, and we are closer to My house than to your house, why don’t you just come home with me?” And he did. To walk with God is to walk in peace (Psalm 23:4), in truth (Psalm 26:3), in integrity (Psalm 84:11), in righteousness (Proverbs 8:20), in wisdom (Proverbs 28:26), in His way (Isaiah 30:21), in God’s strength (Isaiah 40:31), in straight paths (Isaiah 57:2), in humility (Micah 6:8), in wholeness (John 5:8), in newness of life (Romans 6:4), and in the light (I John 1:7). A pre-school class was asked to draw a picture of God. They came up with some pretty pictures of clouds, rainbows and men with big hands. One girl drew a picture of her father complete with suit and tie. Before her father could say anything, the child said, “I didn’t know what God looks like, so I just drew my daddy instead.” The best gift a father can give his children is a good example. The best example we can give them is to walk closely with God.

Gregory Austin MELVIN AGE 49 – DEXTER, MI (Formerly of Martin)

Greg passed away June 8, 2016, after a courageous battle with liver cancer. He was born May 6, 1967, in Kalamazoo, the son of Gary and Joan Melvin. He grew up in Martin and graduated from Martin High School and received a BS Degree in 1989 from Central Michigan University. He married his college sweetheart, Lisa Pileri on June 16, 1990. He completed his MBA in 2013, while fighting cancer. Greg, a devoted family man, loved his wife and children dearly and planned many family outings and activities to be with them. Diagnosed with cancer five years ago, life took on a new urgency for him as he was hospitalized, received treatments, raised his family, and continued to work. His zest for living and determination to live life at its fullest were testimonials to those who loved him. He had a rewarding career in employee communications in hospitals, banks, and healthcare; most recently at Terumo Cardiovascular, where he was the Senior Marketing Communications Specialist. Greg is survived by his wife, Lisa, and children, Christine, Sam, Courtney, and Katrina Melvin. His parents, Joan and Gary Melvin of Kalamazoo, his sister Diane Melvin of Plainwell and his nephew, Joshua Melvin. Along with many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends. Celebration of Life services were held at Peace Lutheran on June 15, 2016. Memorials may be made to Peace Lutheran Church for Greg's family or Arbor Hospice. An additional Celebration of Greg's Life will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2016, at Martin United Methodist Church, Martin, Michigan from 12-2 pm with a light lunch served at noon and a time to remember Greg with memories from his family and friends from 1-2 pm. Terry passed away Sunday, June 12, 2016 at his home in Otsego. He was born August 30, 1942 in Maumee, OH to Wes and Jean (Wymer) Revill. Terry proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. For many years he had worked at several area auto dealerships and garages as a master mechanic and had retired from Reardon Automotive. Terry loved NASCAR racing, driving race cars and was a big Earnhardt fan. He also enjoyed eagles and had a large collection. He was a member of the Otsego Moose Lodge #345. On January 21, 2000 in Ohio he married Susan Ahlberg who survives. Also surviving are his children, Jeff (Missy) Revill, Troy (Karen) Revill both of Manchester, Todd (Karen) Revill of Dexter, Terri (Allen) Fratarcangeli of Brighton, James Kelsey of Ludington, Andy (Jessi) Kelsey of Plainwell and Mike (Heather) Kelsey of Martin; 18 grandchildren; 1 greatgrandchild and his siblings, Tobi Bell of Ann Arbor, Linda Scott of Maumee, OH and Mark (Chris) Ling also of Ann Arbor. He was preceded in death by his parents, and inlaws, Bill Ahlberg and June (Bos) Ahlberg. According to his wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held July 2, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Otsego Moose Lodge #345. Contributions in memory of Terry may be made to the American Cancer Society. Glenn J. “Jim” BEAMAN AGE 70 – OTSEGO, MI

Glenn passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at his home in Otsego. He was born June 25, 1945 in Hammond, IN, the son of Glenn and Juanita (Luttrell) Beaman. Glenn served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps and was awarded a purple heart for injuries he received in Vietnam. For many years he was a welder and in his spare time enjoyed music, woodworking, horses, computers and riding motorcycles. His biggest love was his family. Jim especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. On July 15, 1978 in Lawrence, MI he married Donna Waber who survives. Also surviving are his children, Heather (Jody) Richardson, Gene (Tina) Myers, Shane (Tracy) Myers, Joshua Beaman, Jennifer (Tom) Morsman and Joseph (Katelin) Beaman; 11 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and his brother Rick Beaman. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters and a brother. According to his wishes cremation has taken place. A private family service has been held. AGE 51 – OTSEGO, MI Billy passed away at his home on Sunday, June 12th, 2016 after a short battle with lung cancer. He was born Sept. 13, 1964 in Fort Smith, AR to Edwin and Dixie Roselip. He was preceded in death by his father Edwin and his brother Kevin. He is survived by his twin sister Katherine (Walter) Marble, sister Sherry (Aaron) Shannon and his mother Dixie Roselip; 3 daughters: Jesseca Ulferts, Christina Regaldo, Tamara Goodacre; 3 sons Adam (Ashley) Sweet, Josh (Tiffany) Sutherland and CJ Sutherland; many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles and grandchildren. Also surviving are his special friend Myrtha Connors and lifelong friend Kevin Keyzer. Billy graduated from Otsego in 1982. He loved working on Stan Leep’s farm, whom he considered his second family. He will be missed and loved by many. Cremation has taken place and a memorial will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, June 18th at the Moose Lodge in Otsego. Rest in peace, Billy. We love you. Required qualifications; two-year Fleet Diesel Technician certification from an accredited college or technical school or equivalent; and/or equivalent combination of education and experience; the minimum hand tools for a master technician, possess or able to obtain a valid CDL (with a P&S Endorsements and Bus Certificate) and the ability to pass a criminal background check and drug test.
