Inaugural Popke Family Scholarship Awarded to 36 Otsego High School Graduates Mr. Emil “Bud” Popke and his sister Ruth established a $2 million endowment fund for the scholarships for Otsego graduates. Inspired by the “Kalamazoo Promise,” Emil and Ruth, prior to their deaths, left a part of his estate to the Allegan County Community Foundation to fund approximately $75,000 in scholarships each year. I am inspired by them and yet … There is One who stands above the rest: • He was never successful in the way our world defines success. • He did not have material wealth. • He never owned a home. • He was not highly educated but was the greatest teacher who ever lived. • He was not welcome among people of high class. • Yet there was something about Him that attracted the least and the lost people of society. • The only status symbol He had was a cross upon which He died for our sins. He inspired a small group of common men to follow Him. • “They left everything and followed Him” • They were even willing to die for Him. You already know who this man is! Obituaries William HILESKI Sr. AGE 86 – Plainwell

William “Wild Bill” Hileski Sr. passed away June 4, 2013 at Kairos Dwelling. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, June 7th at 10:00 at St. Margaret Catholic Church; 766 Farmer St., Otsego. Bill’s family includes his children: Theresa (Richard) Brooks, Joe Hileski, Ann (Lyle) Webster, Mary (Dan) Crouch, Bill Hileski Jr., Arnold (Lori) Hileski, Sheila (Rich) Weyrick, Jackie (Rob) Johnson, Jim Hileski; 23 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Shirley; his 12 siblings and a grandson Bryon. Bill worked his whole life as a salesman in the area and loved his job but still had time to make it to all the kids’ and grandkids’ sporting events. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Karios Dwelling.
