2022 Water Quality Report for Otsego Township
2022 WATER QUALIT Y R EPORT FOR OTSEGO TOWNSH I P
Water Supply Serial Number: 05065
This report covers the drinking water quality for Otsego Township for the 2022 calendar year. This information is a snapshot of the quality of the water that we provided to you in 2022. Included are details about where your water comes from, what it contains, and how it compares to United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) and state standards. Your water comes from three groundwater wells, each over 119’. The State performed an assessment of our source water to determine the susceptibility or the relative potential of contamination. The susceptibility rating is on a seven-tiered scale from "very-low" to "very-high" based on geologic sensitivity, well construction, water chemistry and contamination sources. The susceptibility of our source is moderate.
From September 20, 2022 thru December 31, 2022 your source water came from the City of Plainwell. Plainwell’s water is sourced from two ground water wells, the wells are located on the East side of Plainwell. The State has giving Plainwell a susceptibility rating of high in a 2015 study. There are no significant sources of contamination in our water supply. We are making efforts to protect our sources by the completion of the wellhead protection program.
If you would like to know more about this report, please contact: Chuck Cushman, Otsego Township, 400 N. 16th St Otsego, MI 49078, (269)694-9434. Contaminants and their presence in water: Drinking water, including bottled water, may reasonably be expected to contain at least small amounts of some contaminants. The presence of contaminants does not necessarily indicate that water poses a health risk. More information about contaminants and potential health effects can be obtained by calling the U.S. EPA’s Safe Drinking Water Hotline (800-426-4791)
Vulnerability of sub-populations: Some people may be more vulnerable to contaminants in drinking water than the general population. Immuno-compromised persons such as persons with cancer undergoing chemotherapy, persons who have undergone organ transplants, people with HIV/AIDS or other immune systems disorders, some elderly, and infants can be particularly at risk from infections. These people
should seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers. U.S. EPA/Center for Disease Control guidelines on appropriate means to lessen the risk of infection by Cryptosporidium and other microbial contaminants are available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline (800-426-4791)
Sources of drinking water: The sources of drinking water (both tap water and bottled water) include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. Our water comes from wells. As water travels over the surface of the land or through the ground, it dissolves naturally-occurring minerals and, in some cases, radioactive material, and can pick up substances resulting from the presence of animals or from human activity.
Contaminants that may be present in source water include:
• Microbial contaminants such as viruses and bacteria, which may come from sewage treatment plants, septic systems, agricultural livestock operations and wildlife.
• Inorganic contaminants such as salts and metals, which can be naturally-occurring or result from urban stormwater runoff, industrial or domestic wastewater discharges, oil and gas production, mining or farming.
• Pesticides and herbicides, which may come from a variety of sources such as agriculture and residential uses.
• Radioactive contaminants which can be naturally occurring or be the result of oil and gas production and mining activities.
• Organic chemical contaminants, including synthetic and volatile organic chemicals, which are by-products of industrial processes and petroleum production, and can also come from gas stations, urban stormwater runoff, and septic systems.
Water Quality Data
In order to ensure that tap water is safe to drink, the U.S. EPA prescribes regulations that limit the levels of certain contaminants in water provided by public water systems. Federal Food and Drug Administration regulations establish limits for contaminants in bottled water which provide the same protection for public health.
The table below lists all the drinking water contaminants that we detected during the 2022 calendar year. The presence of these contaminants in the water does not necessarily indicate that the water poses a health risk. Unless otherwise noted, the data presented in this table is from testing done January 1 through December 31, 2022. The State allows us to monitor for certain contaminants less than once per year because the concentrations of these contaminants are not expected to vary significantly from year to year. All the data is representative of the water quality, but some are more than one year old.
Terms and abbreviations used below:
• Maximum Contaminant Level Goal (MCLG): The level of a contaminant in drinking water below which there is no known or expected risk to health. MCLGs allow for a margin of safety.
• Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL): The highest level of a contaminant that is allowed in drinking water. MCLs are set as close to the MCLGs as feasible using the best available treatment technology. Maximum Residual Disinfectant Level (MRDL): The highest level of a disinfectant allowed in drinking water. There is convincing evidence that addition of a disinfectant is necessary for control of microbial contaminants.
• Maximum Residual Disinfectant Level Goal (MRDLG): The level of a drinking water disinfectant below which there is no known or expected risk to health. MRDLGs do not reflect the benefits of the use of disinfectants to control microbial contaminants.
• Treatment Technique (TT): A required process intended to reduce the level of a contaminant in drinking water.
• N/A: Not applicable
• ND: not detectable at testing limit
• ppm: parts per million or milligrams per liter
• ppb: parts per billion or micrograms per liter
• ppt: parts per trillion or nanograms per liter pCi/l: picocuries per liter (a measure of radioactivity)
• Action Level (AL): The concentration of a contaminant which, if exceeded, triggers treatment or other requirements that a water system must follow.
We will update this repor t annually and will keep you informed of any problems that may occur throughout the year as they happen Copies are available at the Otsego Township Hall 400 N 16th St Otsego, MI We invite public par ticipation in decisions that affect drinking water quality Otsego Township board meetings are held the second Monday of each month at 7PM For more information about this repor t, contact Chuck Cushman at (269)207-3819 For more information about safe drinking water, visit the U S EPA at http;//www epa gov/safewater

about lead: If present, elevated levels of lead can cause serious health problems, especially for pregnant women and young children. Lead in drinking water is primarily from materials and components associated with service lines and home plumbing. Otsego Township is responsible for providing high quality drinking water, but cannot control the variety of materials used in plumbing components. When your water has been sitting for several hours, you can minimize the potential for lead exposure by flushing your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for drinking or cooking. If you have a lead service line it is recommended that you run your water for at least 5 minutes to flush water from both your home plumbing and the lead service line. If you are concerned about lead in your water, you may wish to have your water tested. Information on lead in drinking water, testing methods, and steps you can take to minimize exposure is available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline or at http://www.epa.gov/safewater/lead.

Lee Greenwood’s popular song “God Bless the USA” str ikes a har monious chord with most Amer icans At the hear t of this song are the words, “ And I’m proud to be an Amer ican where at least I know I’m free And I won’t forget the men who died who gave that r ight to me ” O n Ju l y 4 , 1 7 7 6 , t h e S e c o n d C o n t i n e n t a l Congress unanimously adopted the Declaration o f I n d e p e n d e n c e, i n e f fe c t , d e c l a r i n g o u r independence from Great Br itain The 56 men who signed that histor ic document did so at a great pr ice
All of them signed the document knowing the penalty for signing would be death if captured Five of them were persecuted to death Twelve lost their homes by fire Two lost their sons who ser ved in the Revolutionar y Ar my Another had two sons who were captured by the Br itish Nine signers fought and died from wounds suffered in fighting in the war Others suffered looting of their proper ties At least one, Car ter Braxton of Virginia lost his business Another, Thomas McKean, ser ved in Congress without pay and died in pover ty These are just some examples of persons who valued freedom more than personal secur ity Amer ica is blessed because God is great As long as we place our faith and tr ust in God, our countr y will continue to prosper The best way to honor Amer ica is to honor God We honor God by doing ever ything for the glor y of God We glor ify God through our worship, our ser vice and by loving others as God loves us
Our greatest need today is to fall on our knees in prayer to God God’s promise is as tr ue today as when recorded in II Chronicles 7:14 “If My people which are called by My name shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and tur n from their wicked ways; then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and heal their land "
Then, and only then, will our nation be tr uly blessed
Prayer: Dear Lord, please forgive our sins and heal our land In Your strong name Amen.

Maybe you shouldn't go for looks; they can deceive Don't go for wealth; even that fades away Go for someone who makes you smile, because it takes only a smile to make a dark day seem bright Find the one that makes your heart smile
I DA R E YO U TO B E L OV E D . . .
When people listen, God speaks. When people obey, God acts. When God acts, people are chang ed.
I will sing of the Lord’s unfailing love forever! Young and old will hear of your faithfulness Your unfailing love will last forever Your faithfulness is as endur ing as the heavens Psalm 89:1-2 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mor tal body so that you obey its evil desires Do not offer any par t of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer ever y par t of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness Romans 6:12-13
REFLECTION: I don’t know about you, but I dislike myself sometimes When I get irr itated, I often act like a bully That’s bad but thank goodness I catch myself before I do any relational damage The reason I can catch myself before being a bully is because I really don’t like bullies I find that I am drawn, as a Chr istian to instead be an instr ument of God’s r ighteousness When sin begins to r ise in us, we ought to remember our fellowship with Chr ist Sin has less and less power over us as we grow in a loving relationship with God We have a Spir it that helps us check our behavior before it causes damage The power of sanctification, or being made r ight with God, is played out in our lives when we are tested As our faith grows deeper, we see ourselves more and more as members of Chr ist This changes the way we live in the wor ld Even when we act like br utish animals roaming the ear th and looking to cause damage, we have a helper to prevent it John 3:6 (EVS) That which is bor n of the flesh is flesh, and that which is bor n of the Spir it is Spir it ” The only way to have tr ue faith in God is by accepting that Chr ist will save us from our sins, and ourselves
PRAYER TIME: I will sing of God Almighty’s unfailing love for me! Lord Jesus, your unfailing love will last forever Praise your name In Jesus’ Name, Amen
