Obituaries Teddy Howard McEWEN

AGE 67 – ALLEGAN, MI (Formerly of Watson Twp. and Kalamazoo) Teddy went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, July 19, 2017. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Cooper DeHaan. Ted will be lovingly remembered by his children, Theresa (Mike) Wall, Kalani (Darrel) DeHaan, Ted (Brittany) McEwen; grandchildren, Tyler, Kyle, Leila, Ryan, Tess, Mahina, Makani; brothers, Jim McEwen, Floyd (Diane) McEwen, Roger McEwen; many nieces and nephews. Ted proudly served in the US Army in Vietnam and Desert Storm. He loved to putter and fix things; but most of all loved the time spent with his grandkids. Interment will be at Ft. “TO BELIEVE IS TO SEE”

By Rev. Dan Minor - revdminor@att.net _____________________________________ “We live by faith, not by sight” 2 Corinthians 5:7 It is possible to see things but not experience them. For example, one can visit Washington D.C. without actually experiencing Washington D.C. Some see marble, others see memories. Some see heat, others see history. Some see monuments, others have a monumental experience. Who can stand before the War Memorials and not be humbled by them? How can one observe the changing of the guard at Arlington National Cemetery and not be moved by the solemnity of it? Or stand inside the National Cathedral and not be in awe of it? Examples from the Bible of seeing but not experiencing His presence: • Jacob at Bethel “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it” (Genesis 28:16). • The woman at the well did not recognize Jesus (John 4:l0). • When the resurrected Christ appeared to Mary Magdalene, she mistook Him for the gardener (John 20:15). • Thomas had to see Him in order to believe it was Him (John 20:29). We recall Jesus’ famous words to Thomas (and to all of us), “… Blessed are those who have not seen yet have believed” (John 20:29). The good news is that we are constantly surrounded by the presence of God! “Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see” (Hebrews 11:1). Again, “We live by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7). Prayer: Dear Lord, give me the eyes of faith to see you; the ears of faith to hear you and the heart of faith to feel your loving presence all of my days. Amen.

AGE 96 – ALLEGAN, MI (Formerly of Watson Twp. and Kalamazoo) Louise passed away Friday, July 14, 2017 at Briarwood Assisted Living in Allegan. She was born November 27, 1920 in Watson Township the daughter of George and Laura (Punches) Clawson. She attended country school until the 8th grade. After her mother’s death when Louise was 14 she dropped out of school to help raise her younger siblings. Louise was very proud that she went back to school and graduated from Allegan High School Community Ed. For many years she and her husband had owned and operated a farm in Watson Township. Louise loved the Detroit Tigers and was a dedicated fan. In her spare time she enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, golfing and had been on several bowling leagues over the years. On March 14, 1942 in Otsego, she married Robert Pettit who passed away in 2005. Together they enjoyed going north on hunting trips and fleeing the Michigan winters spending time in the Clermont, Florida area with their family. Louise loved her family and enjoyed her nieces and nephews as her children. Surviving are her brother-in-law, Beverly “Cobe” Coburn; 3 nieces, Judy Buelke-Sam, Jo Ann (Jim) Winkel and Teri Coburn; 2 nephews, Bob (Angie) Brown and Ken (Toni) Coburn; many great nieces and nephews and her friends at Royal Estates. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings, Ron Clawson, Elma Brown, Robert Clawson and Ruth Ann Coburn and nieces and nephews, Dick Brown, Janet Buist, Sandy Harnish and Dave Coburn. A private family service has been held. According to her wishes cremation followed. Burial of ashes will take place at Miner Cemetery in Watson Township.
