“… But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead.” ~Philippians 3:13

God has made us all unique persons. There is no one exactly like you. You have your own DNA… your own set of fingerprints… your own identity. The secret to faithful living is to discover your uniqueness and then run your race with perseverance. In running your race, at least four things are necessary:

1. FOCUS “… But this one thing I do” (Philippians 3:13) The ministry of Jesus Christ on earth was marked by single-minded devotion. He refused to allow Himself to be distracted from His main mission (Luke 4:43). So must we.

2. FAITH “For we live by faith, not by sight.” (2 Corinthians 5:7) As sight is for seeing; faith is for believing. “Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see” (Hebrews 11:1). Here is a quote from William Sloan Coffin, “Faith is not believing without evidence, but trusting without reservation”

3. FORWARD “… straining forward to what is ahead” (Philippians 3:13) Like runners in a race, people of God do not dwell on the past but press forward to what lies ahead. We live with hope and anticipation.

4. FUN - “the joy of the Lord is my strength” (Nehemiah 8:10) A sour Christian is a contradiction. To the contrary, Jesus was no frowning saint. Jesus said, “I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete” (John 15:11). With these thoughts in mind, we cordially invite you to join us for worship this Sunday for our annual Run Sunday celebration.

Prayer: Lord, I can run anywhere as long as I know you are right beside me. Amen.

AGE 80 – ALAMO TOWNSHIP, MI Wanita passed away Saturday, September 5, 2015 at the Wings Home in Allegan. She was born October 25, 1934 in Kalamazoo Township the daughter of Myron and Ruby (Baker) Alexander. For many years she was a nurse at the Kalamazoo State Hospital. Wanita enjoyed growing flowers and traveling across the US to visit her sister. She was a member of the Plainwell Assembly of God where she was active with the prayer chain. On January 14, 1956 she married Vernon L. Bradshaw Sr. who passed away in 2004. Surviving are her step-son, Vernon (Sue) Bradshaw Jr.; step-grandchildren, Tracy and Christy Bradshaw; sister, Doris (Jim) Brown; many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews; best friends, Peggy Lee and Millie Mitchell and her special church family. She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Wanita K. Bradshaw; sisters, Alice Lock, Ione Koester, Maxine Barnhart and Sarah Perkins and by her brothers, Jr. Alexander and Ed Alexander. A funeral service was held Thursday, September 9th at the the Plainwell Assembly of God with Pastor Dave Alderman officiating. Burial followed at the Oshtemo Township Cemetery. AGE 81 – PLAINWELL, MI

Mary passed away September 8, 2015. She was born August 3, 1944 to Henry and Velma Keech of Plainwell. Mary has three siblings: Henrietta (Mick) Selby of Otsego, Kathy Knoll of Kalamazoo, and Donnie (Kathy) Keech of Plainwell. She married her husband, Donald Johnson of Plainwell on June 27, 1967. Mary has 4 children, Michael (Diane) Johnson of Otsego, Amanda Rinehart (James Fultz) of Plainwell, Michelle Sweet of Kalamazoo, and Ron and Deb Sweet of Allegan. She has 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. In her spare time, Mary loved spending time with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Velma Keech, her husband Donald Johnson, sister Henrietta Selby and brother Donnie Keech. There will be a graveside service the week of September 14th in Plainwell.

Bruce E. Nogle passed away on September 4, 2015. Bruce was born on December 16, 1933 to Ed and Helen Nogle in Plainwell. He served in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1956 in the Philippines. After returning to the US he became a Plainwell Volunteer Fireman for over 30 years. He was self employed until his retirement in 1993. He is survived by his wife Kathy, his sons Mark (Pat) Nogle and Brian (Brenda) Nogle, 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. His is also survived by his sisters Patti Hardy & Sue Calu and a special sister-inlaw Marjorie Knight. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents Ed & Teena Nogle and Helen & James Knight as well as his brother James Knight. Cremation has taken place and a private burial will take place at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Corrine passed away Thursday, September 3, 2015 in Plainwell. She was born December 17, 1936 in Williams Crossing, MI to Clyde and Alma (Beauchamp) Rock. She received her diploma in 1986 and had worked at the Otsego District Public Library for about 10 years; KalEquip/Mitech for about 5 years in the 1970’s and 80’s and had also worked picking grapes and apples. Corrine was a member of the Otsego Church of God and the Red Hat Society. In her leisure time she enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and spending time at her place at Sandy Pines. Surviving are her children, Bruce Newton, Ellen Carpenter and Dean Newton; 6 grandchildren, Paul, Becky, Karen, Andrew, Nicole and Aimee; 3 great grandchildren and her sister, Arlene Newton. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Arthur Newton and Verne Anderson; a son-in-law, Steve Carpenter and siblings, Inez and Donald. According to her wishes cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, September 11, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at the Otsego Church of God with Pastor Steve Burrow officiating. Shirley passed away Sunday, September 6, 2015 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. She was born on March 27, 1938 in Plainwell, MI to Morris and Audrey (Edson) Stoughton. She married Thomas Campbell on December 17, 1955. Shirley was a 1956 graduate of Otsego High School. As a young lady she loved singing and having friends over for music and dancing. Shirley liked going out to eat and taking trips to the casino. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. Shirley retired from Parker Hannifin in Otsego after over 30 years of employment. Surviving are her children, Dan Campbell of Plainwell, Mike (Judi) Campbell of Battle Creek and Connie Thomson of Otsego; grandchildren, Nicole, Andy and Michelle; great-grandchildren Madison, Carlena and Noah; step-grandchild Zachary (April) Dillinger; siblings, Eva (John) Belden, Morris (Marion) Stoughton Jr, Linda (Ted) Clark and Betty Galloway. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and by her brothers, Don and Marv. Funeral services will be held 11 am Friday, September 11, 2015 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego with Celebrant Bill Rose officiating. According to her wishes cremation will follow and a private burial will take place at Mountain Home Cemetery in Otsego. Contributions in memory of Shirley may be made to the American Lung Association.

Mary Kathleen “Kathie” passed away Thursday, September 4, 2015 at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Grand Rapids. She was born April 7, 1949 in Allegan the daughter of John and Matilda (Wesaw) Shagonaby. Kathie had been a student at WMU and had also been a home health care worker for many years. She was a member of the Gun Lake Tribe of Potawatomi Indians. Kathie loved animals of all kinds, especially her dog Riley. On October 2, 1981 she married Kurtis Grigsby who survives. Also surviving are her children, Maureen Shagonaby of East Lansing and Codie (Nora) Grigsby of Wyoming; her niece and nephew, John and Jill Shagonaby; sisterin-law, Jane Shagonaby and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Douglas and John Shagonaby. A graveside service was held Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at the Oakwood Cemetery in Allegan.
