Preventing Hunger During Summer Months Hunger and food insecurities are a summertime struggle for school-aged children who rely on free or reduced meals during the school year. With the help of the Simply Give Campaign and Meijer we were able to implement Boost Bags for the months of July and August. One Boost Bag was provided to each school aged child, age 5 to 17, whose parents visited the pantry during that time. A Boost Bag provided 10 days of breakfast and lunch items for one child.

Christian Neighbors distributed 404 Boost Bags during this time!

Sherrie A. LOFFER-FALES AGE 78 - OTSEGO, MI

Sherrie passed away Wednesday, September 3, 2014 in Kalamazoo. Sherrie was born August 6, 1936 in Battle Creek to Carl and Adelle (Kurzig) Martin. She was the first female to graduate from Kellogg College with a drafting degree. Sherrie enjoyed genealogy, ancestry, taking care of her animals, riding the tractor haying and growing tomato plants. Surviving is a daughter, Jo Lee Loffer-Ramsey; 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Preceding her death were her parents, 2 husbands, a daughter Christina, a grandson Levi and a sister Judy. Contributions in memory of Sherrie may be made to the Otsego VFW or the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Dakota was taken from us Friday, August 29, 2014 in Tennessee. Dakota was born February 5, 2011 in Grand Rapids to Tyler Arndt and Brianna Kwekel. He enjoyed playing, especially with his trucks. Dakota was an organ donor, he has given the gift of life to three people who were able to use the donation made by Dakota. The ability for something so positive to come from such a tragedy brings some peace to his family. Surviving are his father, Tyler (Amanda Cleaver) Arndt of Kalamazoo; his grandparents, Marion Hutchinson and Steve Snider of Hastings, Carolyn Baker of Kalamazoo and Steve Kwekel of Cedar Springs; his great-grandmother, Margaret Delp of Allegan; his aunts and uncles, Dan, David and Tim Arndt, Chad Snider, Jeremy Peckham, Shelia and Alexis Lepley and Nicki and Shawn Kwekel. Preceding him in death is his great-grandfather, Leroy Delp. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, September 12, 2014 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego. Friends may visit with Dakota’s family from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at 11:00 with Celebrant Bill Rose officiating. Donald W. CLAWSON AGE 79 – PLAINWELL, MI

Donald passed away surrounded by his family, Sunday, September 7, 2014 in Kalamazoo. He was born March 24, 1935 in Allegan, the son of Ernest and Laura (Dunklee) Clawson. Donald served his country in the US Army. For over 20 years he worked as a machinist for Eaton. On March 21, 1959, in Allegan, he married Dolores Hinkle who survives. Also surviving are his children, Dorrian “Rian” (Lydia) Clawson of Arizona, Rebecca “Becky” (Russell) Deaton and Dorrinda “Rindi” Lee Clawson both of Plainwell; 5 grandchildren, Kelly (Dan) Kursinsky, Russ (Erin) Deaton, Anthony and Amanda Santiago and Rianna Lee Clawson; 3 great-grandchildren, Andrew and Jordan Kursinsky and Avery Cross; a sister Norma (Robert) Thompson of Muskegon; several special nieces and nephews; several great nieces and nephews and his special golf cart buddy, Brenden Stanley. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Jeffery L. Clawson; 2 brothers, Harold and Bobby Clawson and a granddaughter, Amy Jo Deaton. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service was held on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego Contributions in memory of Donald may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Cancer Society for colon cancer research. Gregory A. MAYNARD AGE 58 – GRAND HAVEN, MI formerly of Otsego

Greg passed away on Friday evening, September 5, 2014 at his home. He was born on April 2, 1956 in Grand Rapids, MI to Orval L. & Marjorie A. (Walters) Maynard. Greg received his Music Degree in Education from Central Michigan University, and he later received his Masters Degree from Michigan State University. After serving as Director of Bands and Education at Grand Haven from 1999-2013 and a career spanning 34 years of service, Greg officially retired from teaching in Michigan's public schools on December 13, 2013. Prior to coming to Grand Haven, Mr. Maynard was the Director of the Otsego High School Band program. Mr. Maynard was at Otsego Schools for fourteen years from 1985 to 1999. Greg began his teaching career in 1979 at River Valley High School in Three Oaks, MI. On August 14, 1976 he married Sandra Colbert and she survives him along with 2 children: Nicholas (Nicole) Maynard of Cedar Springs, Cassie (Russell) Hendrickson of Bessemer City, North Carolina; 1 granddaughter, Marietta Mae Hendrickson; sisters & brothers: Constance (Gary) Sutter, Michael Maynard, Sr., Colleen (Desmer) Walch, Pam (Chuck) Myers, Tina (Rick) Vollans, Theresa (Mike) Anderson, & Ron Maynard; sisters-in-law & brothers-in-law: Lynda Splitstone, Betsy (Emery) Tinkham, Greg Colbert, Cindy (Dan) Sovinski, Anthony Colbert, Julie (Rich) Lattin, Bruce (Tanya) Tinkham; and by 30 nieces & nephews. Greg was preceded in death by his parents. The Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at Aetna Calvary Church, White Cloud with Pastor Phil Jones officiating. Helen passed away Friday, September 5, 2014, at the Stanford Lodge in Plainwell. Mrs. Strater was born November 28, 1912 in Kendallville, Indiana, the daughter of Fred and Mary (Butler) Forker. For many years she was a secretary for the Otsego Public Schools until her retirement in 1976. Helen was a life member of the Order of Eastern Star. On March 28, 1936, in Kendallville, she married Forrest Strater who preceded her in death June 25, 1978. Surviving are their children, Patricia (Jack) Davis of Berrien Springs and Ronald (Pamela) Strater of Middleville; 4 grandchildren, Kathy Stuckey, Kim Fisher, Dirk Strater and Jaime Nelson; 7 great-grandchildren, Gabe, Lila and Charlotte Nelson, Matt and Scott Shemberger, April Wagner and Alex Stuckey; 2 great-great grandchildren, Kennedy and Maddex Shemberger; and a brother Olan (Kathleen) Forker. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Forrest and her brothers Forrest Forker and Donald Forker. A Funeral Service was held September 9, 2014 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego Pastor Leigh Larson officiated. Burial followed at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego. Contributions in memory of Helen may be made to the First Congregational Church of Otsego.
