Young soccer and basketball players made their marks on the local sports scene over the past week, scoring goals on the soccer field and tallying points, rebounds and steals on the basketball courts. Many of them are included in this week’s edition of the Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha @Play Top Performers section.

Worldwide sp Athletic Republic, a worldwide business specializing in training athletes in speed and agility, is now a partner of the Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha. The organization has 160 facilities around the world, the closest of which is in Libertyville, Ill. Each franchise is individually owned and the Libertyville facility is owned and operated by Jon Palmen, a former three-sport athlete at Tremper High School. He knows all the ins-and-outs of the Kenosha athletic landscape. “The athletes in Kenosha are not being provided with what is being provided throughout the country,” explained Palmen. “I am from Kenosha and have a strong passion for helping local kids get to that next level. I’ve been asked for some time to do something in this area because athletes in Kenosha are looking for something more.”

Athletes trained by Athletic Republic in the United States have garnered a staggering $315 million in collegiate athletic scholarship money to date. Utilizing science-based protocols and proprietary equipment, Athletic Republic, powered by Palmen Sports, is designed to train athletes to achieve greater speed, power, agility and overall performance. Many people, however, feel that you cannot ‘teach’ speed. Palmen has facts which beg to differ.

There are plenty of testimonials and statistical facts on the group’s websites. The parent website is www.athleticrepublic.com and the Libertyville franchise’s site is www. palmensports.com. The partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha allows local athletes exposure to the various training procedures through minicamps put on by Athletic Republic. Many athletes from Racine and Kenosha drive to Libertyville to take full advantage of all that the southof-the-state-line facility has to offer, but not everyone can make the 45-minute jaunt.

“We see an average of .02 to .04 seconds improvement for the 40-yard dash,” he pointed out. “We “We will introduce a small part also have measurable results in of what we do at the Boys & Girls the vertical leap, from two to four Club, which has a beautiful facility,” inches.”

Athletic Republic has been around for more than 20 years and has dedicated itself to research and applied science. The program it offers has delivered quantifiable results to over 700,000 athletes including more than 2,500 Olympic and professional athletes, no matter their age, gender or sport. Palmen has personally trained athletes at the lowest youth level on up through current NFL players. A look into the Libertyville facility 4 BGC@Play Digital Magazine I Issued December 8, 2011

peed and agility training group partners with Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha explained Palmen. “Sessions will run from 60-90 minutes with our trainers, demonstrating speed and agility drills. This is only a groundbased training on a flat surface with cones and latters. We can’t bring all of our equipment because

it’s huge and would be very expensive to move.” Palmen freely admits he is looking to expand his operations into the Kenosha area. He is looking for a facility to partner with, where he

can house all of his equipment and set up shop in his hometown. This requires a significant investment; therefore, he is taking his time to find the right facility for his needs. “Our philosophy is test, teach and train,” summed up Palmen. “This is where we differentiate from anyone else out there. We have proven you can teach muscle memory how to be faster and quicker with a focus on fast-twitch muscles.” Contact information can be found at www.PalmenSports. com. Those interested in learning more about Athletic Republic and its training methodologies and availability may call Palmen at the Libertyville office at 847-362-5700. “This area hasn’t seen anything like this,” added Palmen.

Numerous techniques are used to increase speed.
