Growing the sport of boys volleyball locally was the goal of Curtis Madsen and Brian Sharkey when they launched the Southport Volleyball Club three years ago. This season, three teams (14s, 16s and 17s) will compete in tournaments from Dec. 17 through July 8 for the purpose of skill development and exposure to collegiate recruiters.

We are working to connect with the middle schools so that something can get up and running.” Southport Volleyball Club is dedicated to the promotion of boys volleyball, ages 12-18, in southeastern Wisconsin. The club strives to give the highest level of instruction possible and use that training to compete in tournaments at the regional and national levels. “At the 14s level, a lot of kids are still learning the game and the rules, and some have never picked up a volleyball,” Sharkey said. “Many times we find ourselves trying to undo what the kids have been taught in gym class. But, they pick up what we teach them so fast.”
