Upcoming Events BASEBALL Carthage College The fourth annual Carthage College/ Kenosha Merchants Indoor Wiffle Ball Tournament will be held Feb. 17-19 at the Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center on the Carthage College campus. DANCE YMCA The Kenosha YMCA dance program has a variety of programs for dancers of all ages and skill levels. Introductory dance classes include creative movement and rhythms/ tumbling/ballet on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings. Beginning dance classes include jazz/ballet/tap I, hip hop, and pom/ cheer. Intermediate dance classes include jazz/ballet/tap II and III, hip hop, and pom/cheer. Registration fee is $35 for members and $60 for the general public.
LACROSSE Kenosha Lacrosse Club The Introduction to Lacrosse program will be offered at the Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha. Programs began in November and will run through March. GOLF UW-Parkside UW-Parkside golf coach Mark Olsen has released information for his 2012 Winter Golf Clinic. The program will hold four, 45-minute group lessons Feb. 7-10. Olsen will lead the staff along with members of the UW-Parkside golf team and guest PGA professionals. There are three separate sessions on those days at 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. in the DeSimone Gymnasium. The cost for one session (four, 45-minute lessons) is $60. All Saints fifth grade girls Red bows to St. Lucy Gold The All Saints fifth grade girls Red team put up a strong fight in its first game of the season, but dropped a heartbreaker, 10-8, to St. Lucy Gold Dec. 3. Andrea Hubli and Tommie Capelli hustled the ball down court to make the plays, while Sara Backus and Joelle Tarczewski did a great job rebounding. Working out those first game jitters, the girls plan to bring a win home for their next game. The girls will be back on the court Dec. 17 against All Saints Everybody’s ready for a rebound, but White. there’s none to be had.

Eagles hang tough but bow to Broncos in opener The CLS boys varsity basketball season opened up at Union Grove High School Nov. 29. The Eagles took their act on the road against a formidable Bronco squad and dropped a 55-47 decision in the non-conference clash. Union Grove pulled the game out thanks in part to a 22-12 run in the fourth quarter. CLS led 13-6 after the first period and 23-18 at intermission. CLS dropped a 69-50 game at Shoreland Lutheran in its home opener Dec. 2.

Season starts with romp over The Hope School The CLS varsity girls basketball team opened the 2011-12 campaign in a big way, scoring a 55-14 conquest over The Hope School. The season opener was contested at the CLS gym Nov. 29. The Eagles vaulted to an insurmountable 19-0 lead to start the game and then cruised to victory. The team had a balanced effort with six players scoring six or more points. The team moved to 2-0 with a 6461 win over Living Word Lutheran Dec. 1.

First-ever varsity meet is a huge success Competing in the school’s first-ever varsity dual wrestling meet, Christian Life emerged triumphant with a convincing 54-27 victory at Shoreland Lutheran Nov. 29 in Somers. “It was a great night to be an Eagle,” said CLS co-head coach Tim Pinter. “I am so proud of our boys and all of our coaching staff. God has truly blessed this team and our school with each and every guy who is a part of the team.”

Rangers earn three titles at Wisconsin Open The UW-Parkside wrestling team had three grapplers take home titles to go with a pair of seconds in front of the home fans at the 40th Annual Wisconsin Open Wrestling Championships Dec. 3 in the Petretti Fieldhouse. Luke Rynish, who was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the event, won his fourth title of the year at 174 pounds. Freshmen Collin Crume (133) and Nick Fishback (who wrestled unattached at 157) also claimed their first-ever Wisconsin Open titles.

Luke Rynish won the 174-pound crown at the Wisconsin Open Dec. 3 and was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler. UWP women rebound in big win over USI After suffering a 68-67 loss at the buzzer to Kentucky Wesleyan College, snapping a near two-year-long home winning streak Dec. 1, the UW-Parkside women’s basketball team took out its frustration on Southern Indiana, beating the Screaming Eagles, 76-50, Dec. 3. The 15thranked Rangers led 33-11 early and were never threatened. Parkside forced 14 first-half turnovers, converting them into 21 points. There was no letdown in the second half, as the Rangers scored the first 13 points and pushed their lead to 57-19. The Rangers shot 50 percent from the field in the game, including 5-of-10 from behind the arc.

Jadee Rooney scored 17 points against Kentucky Wesleyan Dec. 1 and 10 against Southern Indiana Dec. 3 to move into sixth place on the all-time UW-Parkside career scoring list. Sky looks sharp in defeating Blue Lancers The Sky girls basketball team tipped off its season at the Lakeview RecPlex with a solid 28-2 victory over the Blue Lancers. The Blue Lancers scored in the opening moments of the game to take a 2-0 lead. The advantage held for only five seconds as the Sky ran the length of the court and scored on a Rylie Reget layup to knot the score. A stifling Sky defense did the rest, holding the Blue Lancers off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game.
