EIC Professor Participates in Latin American School XX ELAVIO
EIC Professor Receives the “Inspiring Professor” Award 2016 Within the framework of the celebration of the Teacher’s Day, professors of different academic areas were awarded for their work inside and outside the classrooms. Luz María Martínez is a recipient of the “Inspiring Professor” Award 2016. She received the award from Salvador Alva, Tecnológico de Monterrey president on May 11. Besides being a beloved Professor, she stands out for her research and educational innovation projects, such as “Chemistry Web-Based Assignments” and “Construction and Use of Thermic Characterization Instruments: Do it yourself”. The EIC Professor lectured the tutorial course Metaheuristic applications in production and logistics in the XX Latin American School of Operations Research (ELAVIO) in Cali city in Colombia, from May 9th to 13th. The event is targeted to young researchers and graduate students that are interested in Combinatorial optimization and polyhedral theory; linear, nonlinear and integer programming, Metaheuristics and its applications, Discrete, continuous and agent based simulation, stochastic processes and probabilistic models, and Applications of operational research to problem solving. Over 60 students attended the event organized by the University of Valle, the Pontifical Xavierian University, the University of Medellin, and the University of Antioquia. “I decided to come to Tec de Monterrey after talking with Marc Madou, EIC Star Professor,” mentioned the researcher. Samira Hosseini joined the School of Engineering and Sciences this January as a postdoc researcher. Nowadays, she is working in a polymer platform, which can be produced at the same cost as the ones currently existing in the market. The advantage of the new platform will be a better detection of viruses, allergens, and cancer cells. “Dedicating your life to science may seem complicated when you look at it from the outside.
