Jorge Welti Chanes, professor and researcher of the School of Engineering and Sciences became a member of the Phi Tau Sigma society. The organization was founded in the 50s in the University of Massachussets Amherst. The purpose was to establish a network of science and food technology professionals. To become a member, a professional must receive a nomination from its colleagues. This person must have experience in the industry, government or in the academia. Nowadays, the society has over 1,200 members from all around the world. Jorge Welti election is the result of his extensive research in this area, as well as, his awards and recognitions. EIC Professor is Keynote speaker at “Indaba Manufacturing” in Johannesburg
Exchanging ideas with the Premier Makhura from the Ekurheleni region, South Africa.
David Romero was a keynote speaker and distinguished guest by the Department of Science and Technology of South Africa at the annual conference "Indaba Manufacturing". His keynote "Roadmap for Industry 4.0 in Mexico and Lessons for South Africa" discussed the importance of having a differentiated model and strategy for developing countries to adopt this new industrial paradigm mainly led by Japan, the United States and Germany. During his visit to Johannesburg, Prof. Romero held several meetings with researchers from the National Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), as well as with officials of the Department of Science and Technology of South Africa in order to exchange experiences and visions of how cyber-physical systems and digitization can help raise the manufacturing competitiveness index of both countries. Finally, Prof. Romero currently serves as an advisor in the Undersecretary of Industry and Commerce of the Ministry of Economy of Mexico for the development of the national roadmap and industrial policy to boost the paradigm of Industry 4.0.
Professor Promotes Gender Equality in Science at National Forum Dora Medina participated at the forum “Gender Issues in the Field Research – Mobility and Internacionalization of Science” organized by the International Council for Science. The professor was invited due to her outstanding experience as a researcher. The Committee on Freedom and Responsibility in the conduct of Science (CFRS) and the Mexican Academy of Sciences (AMC) built a space of dialogue focused on women in science. The participants at the event generated iniciatives that encourage gender equality in science. Bionanotechnology Binational Laboratory Uniandes-Tecnológico de Monterrey Created to resolve health, energy, “ Projects thatandaimindustry issues ”
Researchers from Universidad de los Andes (Uniandes) and EIC had academic missions. The purpose of the visits was to strengthen the collaboration in bio and nanotechnology. The topics in which the laboratory will focus are: synthetic biology, bioprocesses, Omic's, efficient use of energy, biosensors development, and nanotechnology applied to industrial processes. Marco Rico and Joaquin Oseguera, EIC researchers and professors are the lab academic coordinators. Both universities procured seed funds. The binational laboratory will start to work with a sustainable model.
The Latin American universities strengthen their research iniciativas, focused on binational issues.
