DON MELCHOR’S CHILEAN CELEBRATION OF ITS POSITION AMONG THE “TOP 10” WINES OF THE WORLD MAJOR CHILEAN WINEWRITERS TASTED THE 2010 VINTAGE OF DON MELCHOR, WHICH WAS RECENTLY RANKED 9TH ON WINE SPECTATOR’S “TOP 10” LIST.
Chile’s top winewriters gathered at Puro Wine in Santiago’s Hotel W on August 11 to taste the 2010 vintage of Don Melchor, which the US magazine Wine Spectator ranked 9th on its listing of the 10 best wines of the world.
Don Melchor is the only Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon that has had three of its vintages included among the “Top 10” Wines of the World (2001, 2003, and 2010), a milestone in the history of Chilean wine.
Led by Isabel Guilisasti, marketing director for Wines of Origin, and winemaker Enrique Tirado, the presentation also included tastings of the seven blocks that make up the Don Melchor vineyard and an explanation of the terroir of Puente Alto, located at the foot of the Andes Mountains, which has supplied the grapes for Chile’s icon Cabernet Sauvignon for more than 25 years.
Thanks to this important achievement, Don Melchor will be presented in New York on October 23 for one of the wine world’s most important events. Wine Experience is organized by the influential Wine Spectator magazine and attracts the industry’s most important winemakers and producers as well as 2,000 consumers from around the globe.

ENRIQUE TIRADO PRESENTS IN ASIA THE “DON MELCHOR LIMITED EDITION TOP 100” COLLECTION WINEMAKER ENRIQUE TIRADO VISITED SOME OF ASIA’S MAJOR MARKETS TO PRESENT THE “DON MELCHOR LIMITED EDITION TOP 100” AND THE 2011 VINTAGE OF THE ICON CABERNET SAUVIGNON FROM CHILE.
Enrique Tirado was in Asia from August 31 through September 12 to launch the “Don Melchor Limited Edition Top 100” collection, which includes the 1993, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2005, and 2010 vintages—all of which have been included on Wine Spectator magazine’s influential “Top 100” list. While in Asia he also presented the 2011 vintage of Don Melchor, which now celebrates is quarter-century mark and continues to establish itself as Chile’s great icon wine from the much acclaimed Puente Alto terroir.
Enrique’s tour began in Seoul, and continued to Taiwan, Macau, Hong Kong, and ended two weeks later in Shanghai. Some of the most important activities in which the winemaker took part were the exclusive Master Classes that gave him the chance to tell the history of Don Melchor and review the characteristics of the famous Puente Alto terroir. During the event, Tirado also held several meetings with clients, distributors, sommeliers and members of the specialized press, including Jeannie Cho Lee, the renowned Master of Wine from Le Pan Media, with whom he tasted vintages 1988, 2005, 2007, 2011, 2012 and 2013, and barrel samples of the 2014 and 2015 harvests.

MARCELO PAPA PRESENTS IN BRAZIL THE INNOVATIONS OF MARQUES DE CASA CONCHA CABERNET SAUVIGNON WINEMAKER MARCELO PAPA VISITED BRAZIL TO MEET WITH THE SPECIALIZED PRESS, CUSTOMERS, DISTRIBUTORS, AND SOMMELIERS AND TO PRESENT THE LATEST OF THE MARQUES DE CASA CONCHA LINE. His many activities included Winemaker’s Dinners in a number of restaurants, training sessions for sales teams, press lunches, and tastings with some of the most outstanding wines. Some of the highlights of the trip included launching the 2013 Marques de Casa Concha Cabernet Sauvignon Limited Edition, a wine that is fresher and has less alcohol because it was vinified in the style used in the 1970s. Papa also revealed the latest innovations incorporated into the production of the Cabernet Sauvignon, such as picking the grapes earlier, a more moderate use of oak and experiments in keeping the wine in Piemontese ‘fudre’ (big oak casks).
August 31–September 4: Marcelo Papa’s recent five-day tour of Brazil took him to the cities of Sao Paulo, Sorocaba, Brasilia, and Salvador to present the latest from the Super Premium line Marques de Casa Concha.
“The tour was a complete success, and showing and tasting the brand with customers, consumers, well-respected wine critics, and members of the press from different media was very gratifying both for me personally and for Marques de Casa Concha,” said Marcelo Papa.

THE DRINKS BUSINESS ORGANIZES UNPRECEDENTED MASTER CLASS WITH MARCELO PAPA INVITED BY THE DRINKS BUSINESS, THE WINEMAKER CONDUCTED A MASTER CLASS IN LONDON TO PRESENT THE LATEST FROM MARQUES DE CASA CONCHA IN THE UK. IN ITS SEPTEMBER ISSUE, THE MAGAZINE PUBLISHED A DETAILED REPORT OF THIS EVENT.
The successful Master Class, organized by the prestigious British publication The Drinks Business and led by Marcelo Papa, Concha y Toro’s winemaker, had a special coverage in the magazine’s September issue. Lucy Shaw, the editor, pointed out the latest innovations incorporated by the winemaker while producing Cabernet Sauvignon, such as earlier harvests, moderate use of oak and experimentation with Piemontese ‘fudre’ for aging the wines. The Master Class was held on June 3 at the Westbury Hotel in Mayfair, and was attended by prominent journalists, sommeliers and
personalities of the industry. The wines that were tasted included five different Cabernet Sauvignon batches from Pirque and Puente Alto, the 2014 Marques de Casa Concha País-Cinsault, and the 2013 vintage of both the traditional Cabernet Sauvignon and the Limited Edition. “This was the most inspiring tasting I have attended in 15 years,” wine-writer Michael Schuster declared at the end of the Master Class, accounting for the success of the meeting.

DON MELCHOR PRESENTS IMPORTANT RECOGNITION FOR ITS 2010 VINTAGE ON THE DISPLAY WINDOWS OF A SPECIALIZED WINE SHOP TO PROMOTE THE NEWS ABOUT THE IMPORTANT RECOGNITION AWARDED BY WINE SPECTATOR’S “TOP 10” RANKING TO THE 2010 VINTAGE OF DON MELCHOR, THE ICONIC WINE WAS SET PROMINENTLY IN THE DISPLAY WINDOWS OF A SPECIALIZED SHOP AT COSTANERA CENTER SHOPPING MALL. In Chile, as a way of supporting the communication of this important recognition awarded to the 2010 vintage of Don Melchor by the American magazine Wine Spectator in its ranking of the "Top 10" best wines of the world, the iconic wine was featured prominently throughout September on the shop windows of La CAV at Costanera Center Shopping Mall. Don Melchor has been three times part of this ranking that selects the 10 best wines of the world –with its vintages 2001, 2003 and 2010– becoming the only Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon to position three of its vintages amongst the "Top 10", thus marking a milestone in Chile’s wine history.

VILLE DU VIN IS ACTIVATING THE SALES OF ULTRA PREMIUM AND ICONIC WINES IN BRAZIL THE BRAZILIAN STORE CREATED DIVERSE ACTIVATIONS DURING AUGUST AND SEPTEMBER, INCLUDING THE ULTRA PREMIUM RANGE TERRUNYO AND THE ICON DON MELCHOR. In Brazil, Father’s Day is celebrated every second Sunday in August. Different promotional activations, such as the launching of packs with wine glasses and exclusive wood boxes were carried out throughout the entire month to support sales across the country. The activations took place at the Ville du Vin shops and included the Ultra Premium Range Terrunyo and the icon wine Don Melchor. Additionally, and joining the celebrations of Chile’s National Day, from September 16 to 23 the store held a contest encouraging its clients to send pictures of themselves located somewhere in Chile or at Concha y Toro’s winery in Pirque.
