WITH 95 POINTS FROM WINE SPECTATOR, THE 2012 DON MELCHOR MATCHES THE SCORE RECEIVED BY THE 2010 VINTAGE, WHICH WAS NAMED AMONG THE TOP 10 WINES OF THE WORLD THE ACCOLADE FOR THE 2012 DON MELCHOR PLACES THIS VINTAGE AMONG THE MAGAZINE’S FIVE HIGHEST SCORES.
Wine Spectator’s weekly Insider Newsletter, which provides advance information about the latest tastings and tasting notes to be included in upcoming editions of the print edition, awarded the 2012 Don Melchor an outstanding 95 points, marking a milestone in the history of the wine by matching the extraordinary accolade obtained by the iconic 2010 vintage, which was named one of the 10 best wines of the world. Furthermore, the publication listed the 2012 Don Melchor as a Hot Wine—the only Chilean wine included in this distinguished category.
Wine critic Kim Marcus called the 2012 Don Melchor a “Suave and refined, with rich, dense flavors of dried berry, dark plum, rose petal and bramble. Offers fine-grained tannins and accents of green olive. Finishes with hints of hot stone, dried beef and white pepper. Complex.” Don Melchor, by winemaker Enrique Tirado, has received the highest accolades since its inception and throughout its entire history, corroborating its position among the highest representatives of Cabernet Sauvignon in Chile and the world.

Carmín de Peumo, Concha y Toro’s icon Carmenere by winemaker Ignacio Recabarren, has once again been recognized by one of the most prestigious medias in the world. Described as an elegant and powerful red full of black fruits and cherry and blackcurrant flavors, the US publication Wine Spectator’s weekly Insider Newsletter gave the 2013 Carmín de Peumo an outstanding
93 points, confirming its undisputed leadership with the highest score the magazine has ever given a Carmenere from this vintage. Chile’s first icon Carmenere, Carmín de Peumo, has consistently earned the highest accolades since its debut vintage, which affirms its quality and enological consistency and once again positions Peumo as the best terroir for producing the variety and establishes Carmín de Peumo as the Best Carmenere of the World.

Anthony Gismondi, one of Canada’s most influential wine writers and the host of the weekly radio program “Best Food and Wine Show” interviewed Marques de Casa Concha winemaker Marcelo Papa to discuss the brand’s latest news, the characteristics of the upcoming harvest, the new perspective on Chilean wine, the innovations being incorporated into the line, to comment on what a tremendous opportunity it is for Wines of Chile to participate in TED Talks, and go into greater depth on the particularities of the Marques de Casa Concha Cabernet Sauvignon, one of the most successful wines in the Canadian market.

SUMMERGATE VISITS CHILE DURING THE WEEK OF FEBRUARY 12–22, CHINA’S LARGEST FINE WINES DISTRIBUTOR AND ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT BEVERAGE COMPANIES IN ASIA VISITED CHILE TO PARTICIPATE IN NUMEROUS TASTINGS WITH THE CONCHA Y TORO TEAM.
Numerous activities enabled Summergate members to learn more about the wines in the company’s Wines of Specific Origins portfolio. The group met with winemaker Marcio Ramírez on Tuesday for a tasting that included the 2013 Terrunyo Sauvignon Blanc, 2014 Terrunyo Carmenere, and 2013 Terrunyo Cabernet Sauvignon along with the brands latest innovations, the 2014 Terrunyo Merlot Lot Nº 1, 2014 Terrunyo Carmenere Lot Nº 1, and 2014 Terrunyo Cabernet Sauvignon Lot Nº 1 Bajo Las Burras, as well as the 2009 and 2010 vintages of Concha y Toro’s icon Carmenere, Carmín de Peumo.
Marques de Casa Concha line. The first two, the 2014 Chardonnay and the 2014 Pinot Noir, both of coastal origins, were paired with dishes such as oysters au gratin, venison carpaccio, and Galician-style octopus. The 2015 Marques de Casa Concha País Cinsault and the 2014 Carmenere, both from the Entre Cordilleras zone, were paired with white meats as well as traditional Chilean dishes such as
Winemaker Isabel Mitarakis then led a tasting of the 2001, 2003, and 2010 vintages of Don Melchor—all of which have been included on the Top 10 Wines of the World list—plus the 2011 vintage, which enabled her to explain the particularities of the seven blocks that give rise to Don Melchor and the meticulous work that goes into making the icon Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile. The next evening the group participated in the “Marques Night” on the Hotel Noi’s exclusive rooftop terrace, where they enjoyed a spectacular view of the city of Santiago. They tasted six wines from the
empanadas, and finally, from the Andes zone, represented by the 2013 Marques de Casa Concha Cabernet Sauvignon and the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Edición Limitada accompanied by barbecued pork ribs and beef tacos to close a successful week of activities and information about the company’s fine wine portfolio.

Wine writer Patricio Tapia, who is responsible for tasting Chilean wines for the publication, chose the 2012 Terrunyo Cabernet Sauvignon by winemaker Ignacio Recabarren as one of the Best Cabernet Sauvignons and rated it at 92 points. The 2013 Gran Reserva Serie Riberas Cabernet Sauvignon by winemaker Marcio Ramírez received 91 points and was named a Best Buy.

DON MELCHOR STARS IN SHOP WINDOWS IN CHILE Don Melchor sponsored a promotional activity in the El Mundo del Vino shops with a special discount exclusively for subscribers to the El Mercurio newspaper. It also had key window space in the Hotel W shop during the month of February. The La CAV shops also placed Don Melchor in its main window in one of its most important shops in the Costanera Center Mall in Santiago, thereby extending the campaign that was already in effect in the shop.

SUCCESSFUL ‘I LOVE CARMENERE’ CAMPAIGN Three of Concha y Toro’s most emblematic Carmeneres —Carmín de Peumo, Terrunyo Carmenere, and Marques de Casa Concha Carmenere—were available at exclusive prices at the Wine Shop in Pirque and the Concha y Toro shop on Alonso de Córdova in Santiago as a way to promote the consumption of the variety during the February 14 Valentine’s Day celebrations. Visitors enjoyed special prices on bottles and by the glass throughout the entire month to establish Carmenere as the emblematic variety for the month of love.
