ENRIQUE TIRADO PRESENTS A VERTICAL TASTING OF DON MELCHOR AT ‘MATTER OF TASTE HONG KONG’ THE WINEMAKER PRESENTED SIX VINTAGES OF DON MELCHOR AT ONE OF THE WINE WORLD’S MOST EXCLUSIVE AND PRESTIGIOUS EVENTS.

On November 6, Enrique Tirado and Luis Gutiérrez, wine critic for Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, presented an exclusive Don Melchor master class and vertical tasting during the ‘Matter of Taste’ in Hong Kong. Tirado selected the 2001, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2011, and 2013 vintages of Don Melchor, all of which had received high scores in wine Advocate, one of the most respected wine publications in the world. The influential medium has widely praised Don Melchor over the

years as a remarkable Cabernet Sauvignon that faithfully expresses the unique characteristics of the Alto Maipo Valley. Matter of Taste is an annual event that wine critic Robert Parker organizes in different cities and for which the tasting team carefully chooses the best wines to present in conjunction with the most talented winemakers in the world.

ENRIQUE TIRADO’S SUCCESSFUL PARTICIPATION IN ENGLAND NOVEMBER 11–16. WINEMAKER ENRIQUE TIRADO VISITED ENGLAND TO MEET WITH THE SPECIALIZED PRESS AND PARTICIPATE IN AN EXCLUSIVE PAIRING DINNER ORGANIZED WITH MANCHESTER UNITED.

It was a very busy schedule for Enrique Tirado in England. Upon arriving, he had lunch with The Drinks Business editor Arabella Mileham to discuss the history of Don Melchor and its important role in the history of Chilean wine and to taste the 2012 and 2013 vintages of this iconic Cabernet Sauvignon. He also led an exclusive pairing dinner organized in conjunction with the English football team Manchester United. The participants included a select group of guests, including Club legend Denis Law.

He later participated in an event organized with The Wine Merchant, England’s first magazine for Trade retailers and to guide a tasting of the 1988, 1996, 2001, 2005, 2009, 2012, and 2013 vintages with leaders of the British wine world, such as Decanter magazine editor Steven Spurrier, the influential wine critic Peter Richards, and Joanna Simon, who writes for numerous media and is a member of influential wine organization, The Wine Gang.

The next day Enrique met with journalist Victoria Grey, correspondent for Stylish magazine and Emerald Street Journal, to taste the last three

DON MELCHOR IN UNITED ARAB EMIRATES THE WINEMAKER TRAVELED TO THE CITIES OF DUBAI AND ABU DHABI TO LEAD TASTINGS WITH DIFFERENT VINTAGES OF THE ICONIC CABERNET SAUVIGNON FROM CHILE. November 7–10. Enrique Tirado visited two key cities in the United Arab Emirates to lead tastings with customers and consumers. In Dubai, he met with the team from Emirates Airlines to taste the 2012 vintage, which was recently listed in its portfolio. He also presented the 2001, 2004, 2007, and 2012 vintages to the sommeliers and sales team of Le Clos, and then hosted a dinner with VIP customers and Key Accounts, during which they tasted Don Melchor 1998, 2008, 2010, and 2012. The next day Enrique headed to Burj Al Arab, one of Dubai’s most luxurious hotels, where he led a master class and presented the 2001, 2004, 2009, and 2013 vintages with sommeliers from the city’s finest restaurants. That evening he hosted another pairing dinner, this time with the market’s most prestigious Don Melchor customers, as well as


a select group of diplomats, who were able to learn more about the brand and its different vintages. In Abu Dhabi the winemaker led training sessions for the sales teams of some of the city’s most important wine shops and led a master class with the 2004, 2009, and 2012 vintages, followed by a pairing dinner with the 1998, 2002, 2009, and 2012 vintages for the most important buyers.

SUCCESSFUL LAUNCH OF THE DON MELCHOR MEMBERS CLUB THE PRESTIGIOUS CLUB SEEKS TO BRING PUERTO RICAN CONSUMERS CLOSER TO DON MELCHOR AND GENERATE A VARIETY OF BRAND-BASED ACTIVITIES. The Don Melchor Members Club was officially introduced on November 17 to bring together Don Melchor and Puerto Rico’s most exclusive customers. Winemaker Loreto Ruiz participated in the successful launch in San Juan de Puerto Rico, during which the attendees tasted the 2005, 2006, 2011, and 2013 vintages of the icon Cabernet Sauvignon. The well-attended event organized by “Hermanos Ballester” was an important step in developing the brand in this market.

MARQUES DE CASA CONCHA AT “GREAT WINES OF THE WORLD” JAMES SUCKLING, ONE OF ASIA’S MOST INFLUENTIAL WINE CRITICS, ORGANIZED THE GREAT WINES OF THE WORLD” EVENT DURING THE HONG KONG WINE & DINE FESTIVAL. THE EVENT INCLUDED MORE THAN 50 WINERIES AND PRODUCERS REPRESENTING THE WORLD’S FINEST WINES. On November 5, wine critic James Suckling presented the third edition of his “Great Wines of the Year” extravaganza at the Four Seasons Hotel in Hong Kong in which major producers from numerous wine regions poured their finest wines, all ranked 90+ points by the US critic in 2016. Visitors to the successful event had the opportunity to taste some of the world’s finest wines and meet the winemakers behind them, such as Marcelo Papa, winemaker for Marques de Casa Concha, who presented the line’s 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon, which received 92 points on JamesSuckling.com in May.

MARCELO PAPA HEADS EXTENSIVE TOUR OF CHINA, TAIWAN, AND SINGAPORE EVENTS IN HONG KONG, MACAO, SHANGHAI, TAIPEI, AND SINGAPORE WERE ON WINEMAKER MARCELO PAPA’S SCHEDULE DURING HIS RECENT TRIP TO ASIA IN NOVEMBER.

During the first two weeks of November, winemaker Marcelo Papa participated in numerous activities held in Asia. Upon arriving in Hong Kong, Papa led numerous training sessions for the Concha y Toro team and met with key customers and renowned sommeliers. He also participated in the “Great Wines of the World” event organized by wine critic James Suckling.

In the evening, Marcelo joined Don Melchor winemaker Enrique Tirado and chef Bruno Menard for an exclusive dinner for 40 influential guests who had the opportunity to taste the 2014 Marques de Casa Concha Chardonnay, the 2014 Marques de Casa Concha Carmenere, the 2014 Marques de Casa Concha Cabernet Sauvignon, and the 2012 Don Melchor.

Also in Hong Kong, Marcelo participated in the “Matter of Taste” event organized by US critic Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. Papa presented the 2013 Marques de Casa Concha Syrah during the event that featured the world’s most important wines.

The highlights of Marcelo’s tour included participating in exclusive galas in Taipei and Singapore to celebrate the brand’s 40th anniversary, during which the various wines in the portfolio were presented. Marcelo concluded his Asian visit with a number of activities in Macao, including visits with customers and key sommeliers in Macao.

Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam, South Korea, and the Philippines were all on Pablo Pressac’s itinerary as Wine Ambassador to the Asian Zone, and part of his year-end promotional tour, October 16–November 6.

His activities were primarily focused on brand training sessions for the sales teams of major restaurants and distributors in the different markets as well as special events to celebrate the brand’s 40th anniversary.

The anniversary celebrations continued in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam with a novel masquerade party attended by numerous customers and special guests. One of the highlights of the evening was a tasting dinner at the Sheraton Hotel Hanoi with VIP customers, representatives from the Chilean embassy in Vietnam, and local media.

In Singapore Pressac led training sessions and tasting dinners for key restaurants, clubs, and shops and also participated in US critic Robert Parker’s Matter of Taste event.

In Busan and Seoul, South Korea Pussac led tastings of the line’s wines with press and bloggers and provide more information about one of Chile’s most successful wine brands.

In Kuala Lumpur his activities focused on meetings with members of the trade, while in Cambodia, he led a pairing dinner for the Cambodian Sommeliers Association and participated in another for

INTERNATIONAL PRESS MEET WITH WINEMAKERS US EXPERTS, SWEDISH JOURNALISTS, AND BRAZILIAN PERSONALITIES VISITED CONCHA Y TORO IN NOVEMBER TO MEET WITH THE STAFF AND TASTE THE COMPANY’S LATEST WINES. On November 10, renowned US blogger and consultant Joe Roberts and chef Geeta Bansal arrived in Pirque to taste the company’s different wines. During the tasting, winemaker Sebastián Rodríguez presented a series of coastal wines including the 2015 Terrunyo Sauvignon Blanc, the

Carmenere, followed by Cabernet Sauvignons from the Maipo Valley, and finally closed with the 2013 vintage of Don Melchor. On November 16 we received guests from Brazil. Isabelle Lima, wine columnist from the Paladar supplement of the O Estado de Sao Paulo newspaper; Daniela Bravin, sommelier from Casa do Porco; and Paulo Greca, columnist for Avianca Airlines’ A Bordo inflight magazine visited Pirque to learn more about the winery and taste the complete Marques de Casa Concha line. On November 22 two key members of the Swedish wine world visited the winery to taste some of the Marques de Casa Concha wines and Don Melchor.

Winemaker Marcelo Papa received one of Sweden’s most influential journalists, Alf Tumble, along with blogger-sommelier Daniella Illerbrand to present the first wines. He talked about the characteristics and benefits of growing Chardonnay in the Limarí Valley, and then they tasted the line’s 2015 vintage and compared it with barrel samples that will go into a future limited edition of the variety from the Bío Bío Valley in the south. Papa also presented the Marques de Casa Concha 2015 País Cinsault, 2015 Carmenere, and 2014 Syrah, as well as the 2014 Vigno. Don Melchor winemaker Isabel Mitarakis then joined the group to tell them about the history and characteristics of Don Melchor and present the 2013 vintage, which the experts defined as “silky, fine, and smooth.”

THREE EXPERTS VISIT CHILE TO LEARN ABOUT THE LATEST NEWS OF WINES OF ORIGIN PORTFOLIO ON NOVEMBER 28, IMPORTANT ENGLISH WRITERS MET WITH CONCHA Y TORO WINEMAKERS TO HEAR ALL THE LATEST FROM THE COMPANY’S WINES OF ORIGIN PORTFOLIO. Susy Atkin, who writes for England’s Sunday Telegraph and who is also an important figure in the British wine world, arrived in Chile with Richard Hemming MW, a correspondent for JancisRobinson.com, and

freelance writer and consultant Alistair Cooper to taste some of the latest wines from Concha y Toro’s Wines of Origin portfolio.


Winemaker Marcelo Papa received the visitors with the 2015 Marques de Casa Concha Chardonnay and explained the wine’s characteristics and origins in the Limarí Valley. Marcelo then discussed the latest developments with Pinot Noir from extreme valleys by presenting barrel samples from the Bío Bío Valley and two examples of Pinot Noir from different parts of the Limarí Valley as a means of showing the contrast between soils and solar expositions as well as the 2015 and 2016 vintages of the line’s Pinot Noir.

He then presented wines from three vineyards that produce the grapes for the final blend of the Marques de Casa Concha Cabernet Sauvignon to be able to discuss the different characteristics of each vineyard before passing the baton to winemaker Marcio Ramírez who guided the group through a tasting of the 2004 and 2015 vintages of Terrunyo Carmenere. The experts concluded their session with the 1988, 1996, 2006, and 2013 vintages of Don Melchor with winemaker Enrique Tirado, who discussed each of the vintages and explained the characteristics of the Don Melchor Vineyard and the concept behind its different parcels.

Marcelo also showed them the results of projects in the Maule Valley—the 2015 Marques de Casa Concha País Cinsault and the 2014 Vigno.
