DON MELCHOR 2011 CHOSEN BEST CHILEAN WINE AT THE 2016 WINE100 CHALLENGE ONE OF CHINA’S LEADING WINE COMPETITIONS NAMED DON MELCHOR 2011 THE BEST CHILEAN WINE, MARKING AN IMPORTANT NEW MILESTONE FOR THE BRAND IN THE CHINESE MARKET.

The 5th version of the Wine100 Challenge—one of China’s leading wine competitions focused on both the trade and consumers—awarded Don Melchor 2011 a Gold Medal and named it Chile’s Best Wine at a ceremony attended by winemaker Isabel Mitarakis. The 2016 Wine100 Challenge, which ran from June 21 to 27 in Shanghai, included a jury composed of renowned international wine experts such as Andrew Caillard MW, Fongyee Walker, Jane Skilton

MW, Robert Joseph –founder of the International Wine Challengeand Frankie Zhao, among others, who blind tasted more than 420 wines from across the globe. The winning wines will be featured on an extensive tour over the coming months that will visit 12 cities in China and include tastings with consumers, in which Don Melchor 2011 will have the opportunity to display the qualities that have made it one of the world’s greatest Cabernet Sauvignons.

LOTTE DEPARTMENT STORE MAKES FRUITFUL VISIT TO CHILE AS PART OF “THE DON CLUB” PROGRAM ON JUNE 5 TO 9, STAFF FROM LOTTE DEPARTMENT STORE—THE LEADING KOREAN CLIENT OF THE WINES OF ORIGIN PORTFOLIO—VISITED CHILE FOR A SERIES OF ACTIVITIES RELATED TO “THE DON CLUB” PROGRAM.

several blocks of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot, Enrique Tirado and Sang-Hoon Park crafted their own blend of Don Melchor, which was transferred to a barrel with a personalized plaque engraved with the name “The Don”.

During their stay, the three had the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge of the process that gives rise to Don Melchor by visiting the vineyard with winemaker Isabel Mitarakis and meeting with winemaker Enrique Tirado to prepare a personalized blend of Don Melchor as part of “The Don Club” program. MIAMI WELCOMES WINEMAKER ENRIQUE TIRADO

ENRIQUE TIRADO VISITED MIAMI, FLORIDA FROM JUNE 22 TO 25, ATTENDING A VARIETY OF ACTIVITIES WITH CLIENTS AND CONSUMERS. On the week of June 22nd, Enrique Tirado visited Miami, in the USA, to host tastings and meet with distributors and consumers. The first day’s activities included a tasting hosted by the winemaker at Zachy´s Wine & Liquor, where consumers had a chance to taste the 1996, 2010, 2011 and 2012 vintages of Don Melchor.

The following day, Enrique led a training session for the RNDC team, followed by a tasting for consumers and collectors at the Total Wines shop, followed by a tasting of the 2011 and 2012 vintages with the Sunset Corners team, allowing participants to appreciate the exceptional qualities of this Cabernet Sauvignon from Alto Maipo.

Later, Tirado participated in an exclusive luncheon at the luxurious Hotel East, where guests tasted wines from each of the seven vineyard blocks that give rise to Don Melchor, as well as the 2011 and 2012 vintages of the Alto Maipo icon Cabernet. That same day, the winemaker hosted a pairing dinner for wine lovers and collectors along with the Wine & Liquors team, where guests tasted the 1996, 2011, and 2012 vintages.

The final day’s activities centered around two very successful tastings, the first with staff at ABC store with Don Melchor 2011, the second with consumers at Crown wine store, with three of Enrique’s wines—Eolo 2012, Gravas del Maipo 2010 and Don Melchor 2011.

DON MELCHOR PARTICIPATES IN IMPORTANT CABERNET SAUVIGNON SYMPOSIUM WINEMAKER ISABEL MITARAKIS WAS A PRESENTER AT THE INTERNATIONAL CABERNET SYMPOSIUM, WHICH BROUGHT TOGETHER SOME OF THE WORLD’S TOP EXAMPLES OF THE VARIETY. From June 20 to 23, winemaker Isabel Mitarakis participated in the International Cabernet Symposium held in the US state of California. Representatives from leading wineries from across North America, Chile and France participated in the event, in which producers from the world’s leading Cabernet Sauvignon regions exchanged their experiences and knowledge. The winemaker introduced the 2013 vintage of Don Melchor at the event, explaining the unique qualities of the Puente Alto terroir and the wine’s historical evolution.

ENGLAND WELCOMES MARCELO PAPA THE WINEMAKER WAS IN LONDON JUNE 14–18 TO MEET WITH MEMBERS OF THE WINE PRESS AND LEAD TWO MAJOR EVENTS FOR THE WINE TRADE AND CONSUMERS.

The Marques de Casa Concha brand hosted a series of activities for members of the wine press, the trade and consumers during winemaker Marcelo Papa’s visit to England in the third week of June. On the first day, the winemaker met with Richard Hemming MW—one of the leading contributors to Jancisrobinson.com—and Margaret Rand of Decanter magazine, to taste samples of Chardonnay from the Limarí and Bío Bío valleys. Later on, Marcelo led a masterclass on Chardonnays from extreme valleys organized jointly with The Drinks Business. At the session, samples from different foudres and barrels from the Limarí and Bío Bío valleys were tasted by 36 distinguished members of the Trade, including representatives of Harrods, Harvey Nichols, Marks & Spencer, Vinoteca, Tate, Grosvenor Hotel and the Royal Garden Hotel.

The following day, Papa spoke at an event organized by The Spectator magazine, where 35 people—mainly consumers—tasted Marques de Casa Concha Chardonnay 2014, Merlot 2013, Carmenere 2014, Syrah 2013 and Cabernet Sauvignon 2013. The winemaker also participated in a “Three Wine Men” event organized by renowned wine experts Oz Clarke, Olly Smith and Tim Atkin MW, in which more than 1500 wine enthusiasts came together to learn about the latest developments and trends in the global wine industry. At the event, Marcelo Papa delivered three well-received masterclasses in which he explored the qualities of each wine in the highly acclaimed Marques de Casa Concha line. In closing, the UK Concha y Toro team participated in Tom Canavan’s Glasgow Festival of Wine, where Marques de Casa Concha was one of the most celebrated wines present.

SEBASTIÁN RODRÍGUEZ NAMED JURY MEMBER OF BRAZIL’S LEADING BLIND TASTING ORGANIZED BY RENOWNED WINE CRITIC MARCELO COPELLO, THE GREAT BRAZILIAN WINE TASTING BROUGHT TOGETHER MORE THAN 850 WINES FROM 110 WINERIES. Marques de Casa Concha team member, winemaker Sebastián Rodríguez, sat on the jury of the Great Brazilian Wine Tasting (Grande Prova de Vinhos do Brasil or GPVB), the country’s leading blind tasting, organized by distinguished critic Marcelo Copello. This 5th version of the event brought together more than 850 wines from 110 wineries. Held this year from June 5 to 9 at the Hotel Vila Galé in Río de Janeiro, the Great Brazilian Wine Tasting has become one of the most important wine tastings in all of Brazil. At the event, the jury, comprised of leading international winemakers, sommeliers and trade personalities, tasted 850 samples in 30 different categories. The results will be published in the 2016 Brazilian Wine Annual, scheduled for release in August 2016, during the Olympic Games.

TERRUNYO, MARQUES DE CASA CONCHA AND GRAN RESERVA SERIE RIBERAS MAKE A SHOWING AT THE OPENING OF DESCORCHADOS NEW YORK THE OPENING, HELD AT THE ASTOR CENTER, BROUGHT TOGETHER MORE THAN 250 PARTICIPANTS ALONG WITH TOP WINES FROM CHILE, ARGENTINA, BRAZIL AND URUGUAY. The acclaimed guide, published annually by Chilean wine writer Patricio Tapia, was officially launched in New York City on June 14, and once more the Wines of Origin portfolio was present.

Marques de Casa Concha País Cinsault, which was awarded 92 points, and the 2014 Gran Reserva Serie Riberas Cabernet Sauvignon, which obtained 90 points in the guide.

Winemaker Marcio Ramírez, representing Concha y Toro, presented the 2014 Terrunyo Carmenere Lot N°1, chosen for the second year in a row as the best Chilean Carmenere, the 2013 Marques de Casa Concha Cabernet Sauvignon Edición Limitada, which obtained a remarkable 94-point score in the guide, the 2015

SOMMELIERS ASSOCIATION OF JAPAN VISITS VIÑA CONCHA Y TORO SOMMELIERS AKIHIKO NOSAKA AND DAICHI NOMURA, ALONG WITH CELEBRATED JAPANESE WINE WRITER KUNIO BANSHO, VISITED PIRQUE TO TASTE THE WINES OF ORIGIN PORTFOLIO. On June 1, Kunio Bansho—Japanese wine writer and Editor-in-Chief of Wands magazine—visited Pirque along with two distinguished members of the Sommeliers Association of Japan. The writer returned to Chile to learn of new developments in the Wines of Origin portfolio and choose the wines that would be featured in seminars to be led by Nosaka and Nomura in the cities of Kyoto, Yamanashi and Nagano in October. At the tasting, winemaker Sebastián Rodríguez presented Marques de Casa Concha Sauvignon Blanc 2015, Chardonnay 2014 and Pinot Noir 2014, as well as the 2014 vintage of Vigno, the limited edition of Marques de Casa Concha Cabernet Sauvignon 2013, and the 2014 vintage of the line’s traditional Cabernet Sauvignon. The experts later tasted the Gran Reserva Serie Riberas Chardonnay 2013 and the Cabernet Sauvignon 2014, as well as Terrunyo Carmenere 2014, wrapping up with the 2013 vintage of Don Melchor to culminate Bansho’s highly successful visit to Concha y Toro.

LEADING THAI SOMMELIER AND CHINESE WINE WRITER IN PIRQUE GAO XIANG, EDITOR OF THE WINE MAGAZINE LE VIN, AND PAIRACH INTAPUT, PRESIDENT OF THE SOMMELIERS ASSOCIATION OF THAILAND, CAME TO THE WINERY ON JUNE 20TH TO PARTICIPATE IN A TASTING. Two leading figures of the Asian wine scene were in Chile the week of June 20, during which they visited the Pirque winery’s estate house to learn more about new vintages and developments in Concha y Toro’s Wines of Origin portfolio. During their visit, Gao Xiang and Pairach Intaput tasted the Gran Reserva Serie Riberas Cabernet Sauvignon 2014, as well as some wines from the Marques de Casa Concha portfolio, most notably the Marques de Casa Concha País Cinsault 2015, with a fresh and fruity character that makes it ideal for pairing with Asian food. Both experts also had the opportunity to taste the Terrunyo Sauvignon Blanc 2015 as well as the line’s limited edition wines—Terrunyo Carmenere Lot N°1 2014 and Terrunyo Cabernet Sauvignon Lot N°1 2014. Lastly, the Thai sommelier and Chinese wine writer had a chance to taste the latest vintage of Chile’s icon Cabernet Sauvignon— Don Melchor 2013—taking an in-depth look at the process that gives rise to one of the most outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon’s in Chile and the world.

TERRUNYO THE FOCUS OF EYE-CATCHING CAMPAIGN AT EL MUNDO DEL VINO Following the successful activation of the brand in May at the Pirque Wine Shop, Terrunyo implemented an eye-catching window display at El Mundo del Vino wine boutique in the Costanera Center mall, which raised awareness of the renowned origins of the line’s Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere and Sauvignon Blanc

Don Melchor had a successful brand activation in June in Santiago wine shops El Mundo del Vino and La Cav. The activations for the Alto Maipo icon Cabernet Sauvignon showcased the 98 points awarded to the brand by US critic James Suckling.
