â Pizano's

CHICAGO FOR THE KNEE-HIGH By Timothy Myers, Concierge, Embassy Suites Lakefront Being a fifth generation Chicagoan, I remember experiencing all the city has to offer with my parents and grandparents from museums and baseball games to architecture tours, theater, and Navy Pier (p.42). With children of my own, here’s how I spend the day with my nine-year-old daughter and seven-year-old son. For breakfast, we pick up doughnuts from Do-Rite (p.40). They sell small batches and are always handmade. A short walk away is the Vietnam

ä Pritzker Pavilion

Veterans Memorial (M6;C2). Usually a quiet retreat from the bustling city, during breakfast I would share stories about the long line of soldiers that have served in my family—from Vietnam and the Persian Gulf to Iraq, Korea, World War II, and even the Civil War. These talks usually focus on just how big and diverse our world actually is. From there, we walk alongside the Chicago River to Primitive (p.42) to appeal to our inner adventurer. With artifacts, antiques, and new items— ranging from traditional Japanese woodblock prints to skulls hand carved from bowling balls—we would rummage through their note cards letting my kids pick one that appeals to them the most for a letter home to Grandma. For lunch, we head to the Chicago French Market (p.42). We select items from a few different vendors so we can share a bit of each dish. A crepe, a bowl of pho, kosher pas-

trami, coconut water, couscous with garbanzo beans, and a bit of bread and cheese. Our firm belief is that we do not know what we will like until we try it, and your favorite dish may be one brave bite away. By taking the Green Line, we could see Chicago from an elevated train through the Loop to the Art Institute of Chicago (p.42). Did you know that they offer free admission for children under 14? I either plan out which pieces to see and share what I have read, or we just wander through and discuss the topics of paintings. Degas loved to paint dancers just because; Picasso’s “The Old Guitarist” truly conveys his profound sadness during the Blue Period (1901–04); Monet’s “Stacks of Wheat” series shows how time of day and season affects the colors used; and most importantly, the Arms, Armor, Medieval, and Renaissance collection shows just how intimidating a mounted knight would be to a foot soldier. For dinner, we would call ahead and pick up a pizza from Pizano’s (p.41) to bring to Millennium Park (M6;D4). The great lawn at the Pritzker Pavilion (M6;D4) often has free concerts and plenty of kids running around. After the concert, we will make a quick stop by

ä Do-Rite Donuts

ä Art Institute of Chicago

Cloud Gate (the Bean) before heading back to write home just before bed. Best case scenario? My kids would write to their Grandma about how much fun they had exploring the city.

KID'S DAY

â Navy Pier à Bobby's Bike Hike

By Rhoda Kucuk, Concierge, The Westin Michigan Avenue Rise and shine and treat your family to a wonderful breakfast at Yolk (p.41). With five convenient Chicago locations, Yolk’s bright and sunny restaurants are incredibly welcoming, and their menu—featuring enormous omelets and bacon waffles to everything in-between—offers something for even the finickiest of eaters. After breakfast, explore Chicago’s beautiful beaches and parks by renting a bike from Bobby’s Bike Hike (p.42). From child Tag-a-Long attachments to kids bikes and comfort hybrid cruisers, there’s a bicycle rental for all. Venture north along the Lakefront Trail (M6;C3) to Lincoln Park Zoo (p.42) and catch one of their family-friendly, summer events or let your little ones experience a bit of the country life and learn how to milk a cow in Farm-in-the Zoo area. It’s fun for the whole family. After heading back downtown, and pedaling up an appetite, round up the gang for lunch at Bub City (p.40) for some finger lickin’ barbecue. Experience a little taste of Nashville in the heart of River North at this local hot spot. While the whiskey flows and adults sway to live country music most nights, during the day, this is a great family-friendly dining option. After lunch, bring the whole family to Navy Pier (p.42) to see the whimsical world of Dr. Seuss come to life on stage at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater (p.42). Running July 5 through Aug. 17,

ââá

Lincoln Park Zoo

the 75-minute musical “Seussical” intertwines the characters, stories, and themes from the author’s beloved works. After the show, make sure to wait in the lobby to meet the cast and take photographs with them. Before you head in for the evening, or leave Chicago, make sure to stop by Lou Malnati’s (p.41). Kids, their chocolate chip pizza is not-to-be-missed.

ä Medieval Times

Dinner & Tournament

BEYOND DOWNTOWN 3 SUBURBAN DESTINATIONS YOUR KIDS WILL LOVE By Amber Holst @CP_Chicago Take your young lords and ladies to Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament (p.42) where they’ll be transported to the long-ago era of kings, princesses and knights on horseback. Feast on four courses of familyfriendly fare as you cheer for one of six knights competing in the joust and other tests of skill. From hand-to-hand combat to awe-inspiring horsemanship and even a bit of falconry, your kids will be entertained from the moment they walk through the castle doors. Just because Derby Day has come and gone doesn’t mean you can’t introduce your kids to the wonderful, exciting world of live thoroughbred racing. Located just Northwest of downtown Chicago, Arlington Park (p.42) offers beautiful scenery (truly, it looks as if it was hand-picked out of Kentucky) and live racing. Take your tykes to paddock to see the horses up

close and then snag a spot on the rail to see who makes a late run down the stretch. For thrill-seekers, look no further than Six Flags Great America (p.42), the largest theme park in Illinois. Experience 13 roller coasters and over 25 other rides. The park also features live shows and entertainment throughout the eight different themed sections—such as the Yukon Territory and Hometown Square—and two specially-themed children’s play zones. The most popular rides include the American Eagle, the fastest and longest racing wooden roller coaster, and extreme coasters like Superman: Ultimate Flight.

CYCLE THROUGH THE SECOND CITY By Sheila Garg, Concierge, Hard Rock Hotel Chicago Chicago is on a mission to become one of the bike-friendliest cities in the world. Visitors can rent bikes from Bike and Roll (p.42) and Bobby’s Bike Hike (p.42); these rentals include locks that make it easy to pull over anywhere, as well as bike helmets. Walking around Chicago, visitors will see plenty of bright blue bikes on the road; Divvy (p.M1) offers 24-hour bike passes for $7. With Divvy visitors can take an unlimited number of rides, but must check their bike at a Divvy dock every 30 minutes to avoid additional charges. The Divvy system is BYOH, bring-your-own-helmet.

â Lovely

ä Bike and Roll

A great way to experience a number of Chicago’s diverse neighborhoods is to bike Milwaukee Avenue (M5;B3). There is a designated bike lane for much, though not all, of this route. For people who prefer four wheels to two, the CTA bus #56 will also go this way. A $10 one-day pass will allow you to get on/off the bus as often as you like. Start with breakfast at Duran European Sandwiches Café (p.40), a sunny spot with modern furniture in West Town. Duran’s features make-your-own omelets, signature open-faced sandwiches, La Colombe coffee, and a large selection of loose teas. If you prefer a sweeter start to your day, look to Lovely (p.41), a rustically designed bakery and coffee shop in Noble Square. After breakfast, head further up Milwaukee Ave. to where it intersects with Damen and North Avenues. While you make room for lunch, go shopping. Wicker Park is one of Chicago’s trendiest neighborhoods. In addition to countless independent bars and restaurants, there are unique boutiques like Mildblend Supply Co. (p.44) or Mulberry & Me (p.44) and a number of great resale shops such as Myopic Books (p.44) or Reckless Records (p.45). For lunch, try the tacos

15

âä Lillie Q's

at Big Star (p.40), New-Haven style pizza at Piece (p.41), modern bibimbap at En Hakkorre (p.40), or barbecue at Lillie’s Q (p.41). The block of Milwaukee Ave. in Logan Square (M5;B3) from California to Fullerton Avenues is exploding. The once-empty stretch is being developed by some of the city’s top restaurants and bar teams. If you’re riding Divvy, dock your bike for the last time by the California blue line train station, near the intersection of California and Milwaukee Avenues. Then, stop for a beer at Revolution Brewing (p.45), a local Chicago brewery. If you need more time before your next meal, Chicago Distilling Company (p.43) offers tours a few doors down from Revolution’s brewpub. You could also check out a movie at the Logan Theatre (p.44), a beautifully renovated old-school theater that shows first-run movies, as well as the

ä Big Star

occasional classic. For another oldschool option, hit the pinball machines and other retro games at Logan Hardware Arcade Bar (p.44), the first of two arcade bars opening in the neighborhood. Head to Longman & Eagle (p.41) or Billy Sunday (p.42) if you prefer craft cocktails with your supper. The blue line train is a great way to get from Logan Square back downtown to the Loop. If you’ve rented a bike from Bike and Roll or Bobby’s, you can bring a bike on the train anytime outside of the 7-9 a.m. and 4-6 p.m. rush hours. Now go rest those legs at the hotel bar.

AN URBAN OASIS By Etienne Padin, Concierge, Hyatt Regency Chicago Need to take a pause while checkingoff from your bucket list the many wonderful places Chicago has to offer? Find tranquility and urban sanctuary at the Alfred Caldwell Lily Pond (p.42) in Lincoln Park (M7;L1). This one-and-ahalf acre masterpiece of prairie-school landscape architecture is hidden just a few steps behind the Lincoln Park Conservatory (M7;M2) near the Lincoln Park Zoo (p.42). Once part of a Victorian garden built in 1889 that displayed tropical lilies and other aquatic plants, it is now managed by the Lincoln Park Conservancy and

창 Alfred Caldwell Lily Pond

Chicago Park District and boasts a lily pad-covered pond, flowers, birds and other wildlife. Nestled within the garden are the two main structural parts. The Pavilion offers shaded, semi-enclosed areas to sit and read, to ponder memories of yesteryear, or simply to take a quick nap surrounded by the sounds of the wind and ducks wading in the lily pool. A stone stair ascends to the other structural part of the garden, The Council Ring which overlooks the pool. Circular stone walls which double as benches provide a wonderful space for joggers taking a break on their return run, friends meeting for an afternoon chat with a cup of coffee or tea in hand, or just a great spot to enjoy the sun in this open area of the garden.

ROVER'S RETREAT By Jan V. Viscum,

Concierge, Hyatt Chicago Magnificent Mile

The only thing better than summer in Chicago is summer in Chicago with my dog Shandy. I love being able to take him to so many places in the city. A dog is a great way to meet people even in a busy city like Chicago. People are always telling me how cute my dog is and asking to take his picture, I tell them “yes, but no autographs please.” When I get to spend a beautiful day in the city with my pooch we like to start the day at The Grill on the Alley (p.41), which serves a great breakfast. You can enjoy lox and bagels or delicious blueberry pancakes while your pooch is served a bowl of water and a biscuit.

After breakfast you can get your dog in the mood for shopping by taking them to Tails in the City (p.46). Here you can get a pink tutu for Fifi, or a tartan bow tie for Rover. Tails in the City offers the best selection of designer doggie duds and toys. Next, head over to Michigan Avenue for lots of dog-friendly shopping. Bloomingdale’s (p.43), Saks Fifth Avenue (p.45), and Neiman Marcus (p.45) all welcome your dog. The Shops at North Bridge (p.45) even provides complimentary dog treats. After a morning of shopping you will want a nice place for lunch, and Chicago Burger Co. (p.40) is a favorite of mine. They will serve your dog a bowl of water as soon as you sit down, then â Shandy you can order one of their fruity frozen cocktails. I always get a burger for me and one for

my dog—hold the onions, please. After lunch, head back to Michigan Avenue and the Chicago River. Here you can grab the Shoreline Sightseeing Water Taxi (p.45) and take it to Navy Pier (p.42). Pets ride free. My little guy loves it when people wave to him from the bridge. If you are in town on a Sunday in July through September, you could take Mercury’s Canine Cruise (p.44) at 10 a.m. They even provide a doggie restroom on board. Navy Pier is a great place to wander around. My mutt likes to play in the pop-up fountain just outside of Navy Pier. The water shoots up unexpectedly and he loves it. After cooling off, you can take a stroll by the Ferris Wheel and carousel then a nice long walk down the pier. You can even party with your pooch at the LandShark Beer Garden (p.44) near the end of the pier. They have live music Wednesday through Friday starting at 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday starting at 2 p.m. For dinner on the pier, Harry Caray’s Tavern (p.41) will welcome you and your dog.

â Chicago Burger Co.

âä Mercury's Canine Cruise

The food here is fabulous and it’s a great place to people watch. After a day like that, you and your pooch will be ready for a good night’s sleep. Tell me another city where your dog can be treated just as well as any hotel guest.

ä Pitchfork Music Festival

ROCKIN' FESTS By Jean-Luc Laramie, Concierge, Hotel Burnham– A Kimpton Hotel

During the spring, summer and fall people come out of their Chibernations and really bring this city back to life. This also means it’s time for festival season. Some of the best performing artists from around the globe unite in Chicago to host some of the world’s greatest festivals. The iconic Soldier Field (M6;G3) is taken over every year in the middle of June not for a sports event but by Spring Awakening (p.46) to host some of the biggest names in the electronic music industry. The over 100,000 festival goers will see headliners Tiesto, Diplo, Kaskade, Benny Benassi, and Steve Aoki along with with some of the newest talent of this new-age genre.

ä Pitchfork Music Festival

On July 4 you’re going to want to be on a beach. Why not listen to some great music while you’re there? That’s what Wavefront (p.46) is all about. The electronic music festival is the only festival that is hosted on the lovely lake shore of Lake Michigan just north of downtown Chicago. Each year attendees put on their bathing suits and head to this three-day beach party. This is one of the most amazing venues to attend while getting a tan. In the middle of July summer is in full swing and you want to change up your playlist, Pitchfork (p.45) hosts their annual festival in Union Park (M5;B3). This festival hosts some of the newest and brightest artists to break onto the music scene like Kendrick Lamar, St. Vincent, Isaiah Rashad, and more. Pitchfork’s primary focus is to showcase new talent to Chicagoland. This festival might not have the big names

27

that are in some of the other festivals but the music here is some of the best because the artists are trying to make something different and show some incredible passion for their art. Claiming the title as the largest festival in Chicago, Lollapalooza (p.44), brings in over 125 artists and over 300,000 festival goers. It takes over Grant Park in downtown Chicago for the first weekend in August and you can hear the sounds echoing through the skyline. See big name artists like Eminem, Lorde, Arctic Monkeys, and the reunited Outkast. Six weeks after Pitchfork, Union Park is again transformed into a festival ground to host North Coast Music Festival (p.45) the last weekend of August with a mix of genres like indie, house, hip hop, electronic, and jamband. With so much focus on technology in music nowadays Riot Fest (p.45) shows that many artists still use instruments to make music. This festival is hosted in Humboldt Park

창채 Lollapalooza

(M5;B3) every year in the middle of September and has some of the biggest names in rock and roll, punk, metal, and alternative music. The festival shakes the very ground of west Chicago. The sounds can be heard in a five-block radius, which is great for when they are all sold out because you can listen from outside your door.

â Taste of River North

NOSTALGIC SOUNDS By Nicki Scheidhauer, Concierge, Corporate Concierge Services Chicagoans don’t have to travel far for concerts with a flair for nostalgia this summer. After that long winter, we are all ready for some fun in the sun. Festival season kicks off with a bang at Riverfront Mayfest (p.45), coming to River North May 16 – 18. Friday night, check out the best of the ‘90s with tributes to Sublime, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Weezer, and No Doubt. On Saturday, it’s back another decade to the glamorous ‘80s where Sixteen Candles will be the headliner. Meanwhile, Hairbangers Ball and Wedding Banned will be tearing it up at the original Lakeview Mayfest (p.44). If you miss the Riverfront Mayfest, don’t fret, the fun and delicious Taste of River North (p.46) will take place July 18 – 20 with a similar band lineup. Along with the rocking tributes you can grab a bite from some of the best restaurants in River North like Kinzie Chophouse, Taco Joint, Jake Melnick’s, and Stout. If music from the decade of decadence gets you dancing then Ravinia (p.45) is another place for you to be this summer. Spend the summer at the oldest outdoor music festival in North America listening to ‘80s greats like Hall and Oates, Michael McDonald, Toto, ZZ Top, and Heart. If you want to hear some Chicago blues then don’t miss the Buddy Guy set where he’ll be performing with Chicago native Mavis Staples. Those looking for a contemporary feel need not worry as they can catch John Legend, One Republic, Maxwell, Carrie Underwood, and John Mayer who

will all be hitting the stage. Ravinia boasts a tremendous and beautiful lawn area where you can arrive early, set up chairs or a blanket for a picnic, and enjoy the real fun part—BYOB. You’d be crazy to miss this relaxing setting for either a fun evening with friends or a cozy date night.

CHICAGO’S CULINARY CORRIDOR By Amber Holst @CP_Chicago Start your day by venturing below the train tracks at the Ogilvie Transportation Center (M2;B3) to peruse the myriad offerings at the Chicago French Market (p.42). Whether you’re grabbing flowers for your sweetie at Le Fleurs or a snack for yourself at Pastoral Artisan Cheese, Bread & Wine, the market experience is not only engaging, but it takes visitors back to a simpler time when food and home items were unique and had endearing charm. Saigon Sisters (p.41), the inspired Vietnamese street food kiosk that gained a strong following at the Chicago French Market, expanded its horizons and opened a full service restaurant. This intimate space offers a one-of-a-kind view of the Lake Street “L” tracks and offers up delicious Pho (noodle), Bánh Mì (sandwich) and Goi Cuon (spring roll) selections for both lunch and dinner. If you’re looking for a midday pick-me-up, make sure to head to

âá Au Cheval

âä Saigon Sisters

La Colombe Torrefaction (p.41). While they offer an almost overwhelming selection of different types of coffee, our favorite is their Pure Black cold pressed bottled coffee. Enjoy some over ice while there before grabbing one for the road. Really, it’s that good. Afterward, head over to Little Goat Diner (p.41) and grab a snack from their bakery before making your way up to their stunning rooftop for a little sun and relaxation. Heck, why not grab

31

âä Chicago French Market a cocktail from their rooftop bar while there? For a taste of why the Midwest is best, do-si-do on over to Grange Hall Burger Bar (p.40). Dig into one of their oh-so-juicy burgers paired up with sides like fennel baked beans, ranch style potato salad or jalapeno jicama slaw. And while their burgers are amazing in their own right, we’re biased toward their Reuben Dog, a jumbo tall grass beef hot dog topped with cider and beer soaked ‘kraut, 1000 island dressing and Swiss cheese. Save room, though, as their house-made ice cream in charming flavors (think Girl Scout Chocolate Thin Mint) and flaky, seasonal pies are not-to-be-missed. Named the best burger in America by Bon Appetit, we’d be amiss not to mention Au Cheval’s (p.41) griddled patties of perfection. With an ideal bun-to-burger ratio, what makes this version a champion is its simplicity. Prime beef patties, topped with heavenly melted cheddar cheese, atop a toasted bun with a little mild dijonnaise sauce and slices of housemade pickles. That’s it! For added deliciousness opt to add on a fried egg and their decadent thick-cut bacon. As a special way to celebrate their 10 year anniversary, Moto (p.41) is offering an ultra-exclusive chef’s “lab”

table experience. With the best seat in the house—ever—you will get to sit within arm’s reach of Executive Chef Richie Farina (of Bravo’s "Top Chef" contestant fame) to interact, laugh, learn, taste and have the experience of a lifetime as he masterfully prepares pure, avant-garde cuisine right from the Moto Lab. This backstage pass experience is available Tuesday through Thursday.

WANDER THROUGH WEST TOWN By Michelle Slaw, Concierge, Intercontinental Chicago Magnificent Mile Begin your day at the Randolph Street Market (p.47), an indoor and outdoor market that happens once a month and features everything from vintage fashions and jewelry to hand-crafted items by local artists. I recommend opting for their Four Girlfriends Ticket Package as it offers discounted admission, a special photo opportunity, and a complimentary mimosa. For a light lunch, stop into Bow & Stern Oyster Bar (p.40) on Chicago Avenue for some baked oysters with chorizo, burrata and chips. Then make your way to the intersection of Milwaukee, North and Damen Avenues to explore some of the local shopping options. Heading north on Damen you will find upscale boutiques such as Nanette Lepore (p.46), BCBG Max Azria (p.46), and even Palazzo Bridal (p.47) if you are looking for a wedding dress. On Milwaukee Avenue you can check out The Silver Room (p.47) for some great accessories and visit Rudy’s Roundup (p.47), a modern general store specializing in unique vintage and modern items. Stop into Mojo Spa (p.46) for an amazing manicure, and be sure to take in the art at the Jackson Junge Gallery (p.46). After you are done shopping, make your way to Frontier (p.40) for a pre-theater snack and

âä Bow & Stern Oyster Bar

make sure to try the duck tacos. Then it’s off to the Chopin Theatre (p.46) for some community theater with an Eastern European influence. To end your evening, visit the place where many local bands got their start, the Gallery Cabaret (p.46). Enjoy great drink specials while you listen to local comedians and bands at this Chicago favorite.

BEST LOGAN SQUARE HAUNTS By Timothy Mass, Concierge, theWit Hotel Just south of the California Blue Line stop you’ll find Bang Bang Pie Shop (p.40). Grab a picnic table outside—away from all of the chaos of the city—and enjoy a slice of apricot pie or one of their many delectable offerings. Afterward, it’s probably high-time to buy into that chaos and perhaps even contribute to it. One block north you can pop into a little cash-only pizza bar called Boiler Room (p.46) and order a PB&J. Don’t be surprised when the bartender doesn’t hand you a sandwich. The pizza, beer, and Jameson is a staple at this neighborhood favorite. From there, another block north will bring you to The Radler (p.41), a new Bavarian Beer Hall and home to Chicago’s first aged beer program. From local craft beers to German Pilsners brewed in-house, it’s easy to lose track of time here. Grab a schnitzel and move along. There’s more to see. Across the street is The Whistler (p.47), a craft-cocktail lounge/art gallery/music venue hybrid that you may even end up doing movie-oke at. And yes, that is karaoke with movie scenes. Keep heading north on Milwaukee Avenue a couple blocks and you’ll reach “the square”. The Illinois Centennial Memorial Column (M5;C3) rests in the center of this grassy oasis and is named for American Civil War General John A. Logan, for whom the neighborhood is named. Once you’re ready to leave, head to the Logan Square Blue Line stop to head back downtown.

romance

ROMANTIC HIDEAWAYS IN CHICAGO By Robert Brooks, Concierge, Holiday Inn Mart Plaza Summer is finally here, Chicago. Most of you have been cooped up in your residences longer than you thought humanly possible. You could probably use a few good suggestions of where to go and what to do to get some summer romance flowing. Right? Well, have no fear. I’ve organized some great locations into a couple of user-friendly packages for you to try at will. RIVER NORTH PAMPERING Have flowers delivered to your location. A summer bouquet or beautiful long-stemmed roses usually do the trick. Adam at Artistic Blooms (p.47) does an amazing arrangement. Order an in-room couples massage. What’s more romantic than having all your stress and kinks worked out together in the privacy of your own room or home? Therapy Professionals (p.48) does an awesome massage right in your room. Share drinks and appetizers at River North’s Celeste (p.48). Their drink

ä Untitled

program features local, regional, and international craft brews, and their appetizers are killer. The grilled octopus has just the right amount of char. With your River North romantic evening well underway grab dinner at Tortoise Club (p.41), a uniquely Chicago restaurant that offers American fare with a twist. It boasts a romantic setting reminiscent of the speakeasy era. Dance off their mouthwatering bourbon-glazed Berkshire Pork Chop to the lively jazz music in the restaurant’s lounge. Continuing the speakeasy theme, take a short walk over to Untitled (p.41) where you can catch a live jazz

37

âä Celeste ä Nellcote

set or enjoy a high-class burlesque show. Also a short walk away is Blue Chicago (p.47), a no-frills blues club where classic blues is belted until the wee hours all week long. CHAMPAGNE EXCURSION Have your concierge book a limousine or sedan for the evening, or you can call Crystal Limo (M1) or Windy City Limo (M1) and have them place champagne in the car for you. Direct your driver to take you to Millennium Park (p.42). Take a romantic stroll, arm in arm, past Cloud Gate and pause at the Crown Fountain and watch the children frolicking in the water as images and faces of a diverse Chicago population appear on the wall of the fountain. Enjoy a live music performance at the Pritzker Pavilion. Jump back in your hired car and head to Graham Elliot Bistro (p.40) where their deconstructed caesar salad

ä Millennium Park

includes things like romaine heart, Spanish anchovy, parmesan fluff, and brioche twinkie. Their back patio borders the trendy Nellcote (p.41) and RM Champagne Salon’s (p.41) patio, so there will be plenty of enjoyable people watching as you enjoy each other’s company. After drinks and appetizers, have your driver take you to Wicker Park (M5;B3) where you will enjoy an authentic Italian meal at the cozy Nando Milano Trattoria (p.41). Chef Alessio Vulla and his brother Dario have preserved old family recipes and brought them to America with all their delectableness. Conclude your romantic champagne excursion at Pops for Champagne (p.48) where you’ll reach the final step of taking romance to the next level in your relationship.

SWEET SOUNDS OF SUMMER By Amber Holst @CP_Chicago It is summertime in Chicago, and nothing ramps-up the romance on a summer night quite like a little music. So pack some snacks, your coziest blanket, and maybe a pillow or two, and catch one of these great summer selections to serenade your sweetheart. TUESDAYS ON THE TERRACE Every Tuesday this summer from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago (MCA) (p.48) hosts their popular—and free!—Tuesdays on the Terrace live jazz series. Kick back on the MCA's terrace and sculpture garden while taking in the sultry sounds of Chicago's quintessential jazz musicians like trumpeter Corey Wilkes, saxophonist Ken Vandermark, vocalist Maggie Brown, and more.

DOWNTOWN SOUNDS A perennial favorite, don’t miss the series of free concerts at the Pritzker Pavilion (M6;D3) in Millennium Park. Grab a seat on the Great Lawn every Monday at 6:30 p.m. and enjoy Downtown Sound, a showcase of various genres including everything from indierock and folk to pop and hip-hop (June 2-Aug. 11). For a mix of contemporary, classical and electronic performances, try the Loops & Variations series which takes place Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m. through July 3.
