Judson Corrie Waldorf Astoria Continuously a purveyor of surprising exhibits, the Driehaus Museum is a true gem - a pristine Gilded Age mansion that currently doubles as a tongue-in-cheek art house with Tale of Today: Yinka Shonibare CBE. This exhibit playfully dabbles in politics, history & fashion as the artist invites you in to illustrate fresh takes on reconstructed historical scenes.

Don’t forget to check out the brand new exhibits at the Chicago History Museum! See the glamorous fashion from the 30s and 40s in Silver Screen to Mainstream, and deep dive into the history of the Second City with Chicago: Crossroads of America.

5 MUST-SEE PIECES OF

HISTORY By Erica Abdnour

There’s nothing quite like getting an inside look at different time periods to tell us how we got to 2019 and Chicago is home to some of the most interesting and educational exhibits that you don’t want to miss. From playful art and fashion to a deep dive into religion, Chicago’s museums boast some incredible, thought-provoking history that will leave you spellbound.

Alex Yu The Peninsula Deb Sawyer The Palmer House

A perennial fixture at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Thorne Miniature Rooms are a curiosity for youths and adults alike. Marvel at the scale of the detailed models or further appreciate the actual decor and furnishings of centuries past.

Museum of Contemporary Art’s Fragments of Crucifixion (5/25 – 11/3) explores the relevance of the crucifixion, as our society becomes increasingly diverse in its religious beliefs. Rather than depict the image of the crucifixion itself, artworks in this exhibition offer only fragments— incomplete images and narratives.

Ramon Gomez The Gwen The Museum of Science and Industry’s Secrets of the Universe is a must-see for those interested in deep-diving into our origins and how machines made my humans like the Large Hadron Collider, James Webb Space Telescope, and the LIGO experiment have unveiled mysteries of extra dimensions and more. 2 | CONCIERGE PREFERRED

FALL FLAVORS By Erica Abdnour

By Erica Abdnour

Deborah Sawyer - The Palmer House Asadito Tacos & Tequila This new taqueria in the West Loop not only has a variety of spit-roasted meats and handmade tortillas that make their tacos unforgettable, they offer enough ingredients to create more than 2000 different specialized margaritas! Don’t forget to try the elote either! You can’t go wrong with a delicious steak and seafood dinner in an amazing locale. For a fabulous fall feast, head over to the iconic (and delicious) Chicago Chop House! Food For Any Taste Chop House is known for its robust selection of Linz Heritage Angus beef in a variety of wetand dry-aged cuts; the “Tomahawk” Ribeye and Grand NY Strip are two crowd-pleasers. Not feeling like a steak? Bite into the Chop House Signature Crab Cakes or the Lake Superior White Fish for a light, summertime meal. Accompany your entree with a colorful and flavorful Burrata Salad or the Baby Spinach Salad. Sip On This A new cocktail menu at Chicago Chop House offers even more beverage options to complement a sizzling dry- or wet-aged steak or delectable seafood dish! Sip on a refreshing Bellini made with house made peach nectar and sparkling wine or one of their signature martinis like the Key Lime Pie Martini that includes vanilla vodka, fresh lime, RumChata, and cream. There are also four incredible “mock”tails as well if you’re keeping the alcohol consumption to a minimum! 16 | CONCIERGE PREFERRED

Ramon Gomez - The Gwen Taqueria el Milagro Taqueria el Milagro is cafeteria-style, inexpensive, and you get the taco plate with massive pieces of carne asada rather than ordering individual tacos. Their cabbage slaw with the beans and rice are fantastic on the taco too. Oh, and don’t forget the fountain tamarindo juice!

Alex Yu - Peninsula Hotel Velvet Taco Velvet Taco is the intersection of Millennials and tacos. Their menu is comprised entirely of nonstandard tacos, from the Spicy Tikka Chicken Taco to the Kobe Bacon Burger Taco to the raw Ahi Poke taco served in a lettuce wrap or a neon pink hard taco shell.

Judson Corrie Waldorf Astoria “Xoco! Chef Rick Bayless’s unassuming homage to glorious Mexican street fare is far overshadowed by his pioneering Topolobampo & Frontera Grill, as well as his newer wave of restaurants - Lena Brava, Bar Sotano and his brewery/ taqueria Cruz Blanca - and yet still remains to be the best for a truly amazing gourmet taco. It’s also secretly one of the best breakfasts downtown!” OCTOBER-NOVEMBER 2019 ISSUE | 17
