Shoe Fest Music and Camping 2019 (August 30-September 1) Manteno Head to Camp Shaw Waw Nas See in Manteno for this music fest and camping combo! Shoe Fest offers roots music, and you can enjoy folk, folk rock, bluegrass, and jamband for three days while camping on site. Riot Fest (September 13-15) Chicago Punk rock takes center stage in Douglas Park at Riot Fest! Lollapalooza (August 1-4) Chicago Chicago’s biggest music festival, Lollapalooza, is back for another 4-day set that you don’t want to miss. Located in Grant Park, this year’s lineup features The Strokes, The Chainsmokers, Childish Gambino, Twenty One Pilots, and Ariana Grande. Chicago’s delectable cuisine is at the ready in Chow Town and features Chicago’s favorite restaurants like Billy Goat Tavern, Broken English Taco Pub, and Harold’s Chicken.
World Music Festival (September 13-29) Chicago
Pygmalion Music Festival (September 26-29) Champaign
This citywide musical experience takes over Chicago for 11 days and boasts more than 60 artists and ensembles from over 25 countries. Check out one of 20 venues including Millennium Park and Chicago Cultural Center to see and hear some bigname acts as well as emerging artists from a variety of genres.
For 15 years, the Pygmalion Music Festival has offered not only incredible live music, but other disciplines like literature, comedy, and technology. Last year’s musical lineup featured Frankie Cosmos, Whitney, Palyboi Carti and much more, while their author presenters included Safiya Noble and Elizabeth Acevedo. A portion of all proceeds from Pygmalion will be donated to Josh’s Fund, a scholarship fund for nurses training in oncology.

Hot G Dog Chopped white onions, bright green sweet pickle relish, a dill pickle spear, tomatoes, pickled sport peppers, a dash of celery salt, and of course, mustard: To an outsider, this is an unlikely medley of toppings to put on a hot dog. To a Chicagoan, these are the flavors of home. Whether you’re a Chicago native, transplant, or are just here for a weekend, Chicago is teeming with both traditional and modern takes on the Chi-town classics that everyone must try (just please, don’t ask for ketchup).
Chicago’s Dog House This Lincoln Park staple serves up the classics like the Chicago Style Hot Dog and the Maxwell Street Polish, but you do not want to miss out on their specialty dogs! The Snoop Dog is a smorgasbord of homemade chili, colby cheese, and onion, while the T Frank Hot Dog is a palette perk of cream cheese, avocado, bacon, and homemade hot sauce.

Hot G Dog is one of the closest replicas to its long-gone predecessor, Hot Dougs, with its gourmet specialty hot dogs. While their Chicagodogs have a great snap and fresh ingredients, you must try their unique specials that change each week such as the Smoked Kielbasa, Crawfish, Bison, Fois Gras, Duck, and Buffalo. Also, be sure to bring cash, since it is cash only.
The Duck Inn For a not-so-traditional hot dog, head to The Duck Inn for their tribute to a Chicago classic. With all natural-beef and duck fat grilled to snap heaven, you are sure to get the perfect bite. It has received numerous accolades including being named Top Dog by Food Network.
Fatso’s Last Stand From the basic hot dog and fries to the double char cheddar dog, Fatso’s Last Stand in Ukranian Village has a perfectly-cooked dog for everyone. Open until midnight Sunday-Thursday, and until 4am on Friday and Saturday, you can treat yourself to a hot dog and their famous milkshakes at any time of day!

Twin Anchors (1655 N. Sedgwick) This is a local favorite, but word has gotten out ever steadily, bringing some wait times along with it, but make no mistake – if you need ribs, you need these ribs. Accompany them with a one of their proprietary sauces (Mild, Zesty & Prohibition) and there’s little else in the world that matters. The space is authentically aged, speaking to its’ storied past and the bartenders come with the perfect amount of good-natured “ribbing.” A must, if you’re looking for true Chicago appeal.

Bub City (435 N. Clark) The fried chicken sandwich is hotter than you think, the talent on stage is better than you imagined and you always stay longer than you planned. At lunch, the meat & three option… is always the right option, and the brunch is anchored by one of the more serious DIY bloody mary bars in the city. The scene here is alive and don’t be surprised to see some spontaneous dance breakouts.
Chicago Q (1160 N Dearborn & Elm) From the outside looks like a misplaced Georgian homestead in our Gold Coast neighborhood. Inside, the BBQ “joint” is actually a rather refined dining room… with a parade of regional favorites awaiting. Competition-style ribs, prime brisket burnt ends & fried alligator get you in the door, but I’ve found their complimentary bread & butter pickles and BBQ chips just to start, require you to bring friends - many, hungry friends. Green Street Smoked Meats (112 N. Green St.) When GSSM came about, it was as if the whole city had forgotten about BBQ. This, now a staple of the West Loop, has cemented itself as a gathering place for all occasions. The premium meat waiting to land on your aluminum tray is a great start, but take a seat at their communal tables, blend into the beautiful crowd at the center bar with a bourbon sweet tea and revel in the night at the hippest spot in town slinging a mean pulled pork.
Jerk Jamaican BBQ (811 W. Chicago Ave) Though maybe an unconventional choice for the purists among us, Jerk Jamaican BBQ stands firm on this list. An affinity for local craft beers, a supporting cast of sides you would want to order by themselves, and a blissfully gritty Jerk rub. BP Pedestrian Bridge Get from Point A to Point B on the multi-lane BP Pedestrian Bridge and check out some beautiful views of the city at a new angle. The bridge connects Millennium Park with Maggie Daley Park over Columbus Drive and is 925 feet of architectural brilliance.
Crown Fountain Spit, spit, hooray! Channel your inner kid (or take the kids in your group!) at Crown Fountain, the hyper-recognizable interactive public art by Jaume Plensa. These 50-foot towers are set in a wading pool and display digital videos of people’s faces. Hear the excitement of spectators as the faces intermittently spit water through the mouths of the digital faces.
Cloud Gate Popularly known as “The Bean,” Cloud Gate is a public sculpture designed by Anish Kapoor that serves as the centerpiece of Millennium Park. Either by Divvy or by rental (ask your Concierge for the best places to rent a bicycle!) seeing Chicago from a beautiful bike trail is mesmerizing. Plus, that FitBit will appreciate the action! Here are some must-see trails to see by bike:

Lakefront Trail Head east to see Lake Michigan in all its glory. Spanning more than 18 miles from north to south, you’ll catch incredible skyline views from multiple angles. On your ride, you’ll also pass museums, smaller beaches, harbors, golf courses, and much more.
Major Taylor Trail This south side trail runs through the West Pullman, Morgan Park, and BEverly neighborhoods and through one of Chicago’s only forest preserves, spanning more than 6 miles. Named after Major Taylor - who some call the Michael Jordan of cycling - this trail takes you out of the hustle and bustle of the city and into greener places.
The 606 This new path is a fabulous stretch of nearly 3 miles that’s perfect for walking and biking that offers views of parks, neighborhood overlooks, and even an observation deck. Passing through the west neighborhoods of Wicker Park, Humboldt Park, Bucktown, and Logan Square, you’ll love seeing signage that illustrates the area’s history and backstory.
Northerly Island For a quick jaunt on a bike, head to Northerly Island, just east of the Lakefront Trail and just south of the gorgeous Museum Campus (skyline photo ops galore!) This trail is only one mile in length, but packs a visual punch that you don’t want to miss.

Alex Yu - The Peninsula Sakura Karaoke Bar Karaoke comes in a few different flavors in Chicago. I most often return to home turf in Chinatown for my karaoke fix; Sakura Karaoke Bar hosts communal karaoke and offers private party karaoke, and you can ready your singing voice with inexpensive drinks in between some Kanye West and Taylor Swift.

Alice’s Lounge in the Belmont/Cragin area is my go to for karaoke. It’s more of a local dive bar that’s usually open later than most bars in Chicago. Locals flock to this place to belt out some of their favorite tunes, complete with smoke machine and all. It offers drink specials every night as well. Alice’s has karaoke just about every night and it’s a great place to hang out with friends.
In the heart of Lakeview is Trader Todd’s, a karaoke go-to with two stages, comfort food, and cocktails. They have karaoke every day, so no matter your time frame, there is an opportunity to grab a mic and sing your heart out. Bonus: there are plenty of options for dining and cocktail options within walking distance right off the Belmont stop.
