The bustling Wrigleyville neighborhood offers a plethora of eateries, bars, and lodging options that create the consummate baseball experience. Head to Brickhouse Tavern to grab a pre- or post-game bite and bask in the nostalgia that lines the walls, or walk down Clark Street to Sluggers for a beer and a swing in the second-floor batting cage. 6 | CONCIERGE PREFERRED

“A hidden gem of Lincoln Park is Prost, a trueto-life German beer hall. Banners, brats and boots of beers are to be expected, but nothing is more photogenic than their enormous pretzel with the perfect dough-to-crisp ratio. Few things are more exciting than when they bring it out to the table on the paddle.”

“I love Barton G is definitely for their unique dining experience. I would also recommend Sugar Factory for their huge goblet drinks, Eddie V’s for their ‘fire’ desserts, and the yummy foods at Imperial Lamian.”

Landmarks to Take a

Selfie By Katie Cooper

Spend one day in this city and the photos rack up. Around every block lined with towering skyscrapers is something unexpected. Whether you filter or #nofilter, here are the best landmarks to take a selfie.

Lions at the Art Institute (Judy Sunvold, Concierge, Loyola University Chicago) These one-of-a-kind statues have been guarding the Art Institute of Chicago since the building’s inaugural year back in 1894. So, channel your inner icon and strike a pose ‘cause a selfie with this pair is bound to be fierce. Museum Campus Skyline View (Mary Skoubis, Concierge, Drake Hotel) Museum Campus in Grant Park hosts some of the city’s — surprise, surprise — most notable museums. Look behind you and you’ll see the Adler Planetarium, the Shedd Aquarium, and the Field Museum of Natural History. But stare out towards the city for a skyline view too perfect not to ‘gram. The Bean (Marcus Hollis, Concierge, Omni Chicago Hotel) If there’s one landmark in Chicago that was made for selfies, it’s The Bean (aka Cloud Gate if you’re artsy). The entire sculpture is reflective so keep that camera facing forward and show your mirrored self off. Buckingham Fountain (Morgan Jae Cohen, Concierge, Sofitel) Near the intersection of Columbus Drive and Congress Parkway is a landmark you really can’t miss. One of the largest fountains in the world, Buckingham Fountain will keep your selfie flow in check during its spring and summer primetime. Nature Boardwalk at Lincoln Park Zoo (Shannon Boland, Chef Concierge, LondonHouse) The Nature Boardwalk is a little piece of paradise among pavement found at the Lincoln Park Zoo. Get your selfie timing and positioning just right and you’re sure to capture some urban critters in the “wild.” Chicago Water Tower (Roxana Barszcz, Concierge, Hyatt Regency Chicago) With shopping bags in hand, look up while walking down Michigan Ave. and you’re sure to see the Chicago Water Tower. Built in 1869, it’s the second-oldest water tower in the United States and is especially gorgeous when lit up at night. Navy Pier Ferris Wheel (Hope Heotis, Concierge, O’Hare Airport) For a wheel-y good selfie (sorry, not sorry), make your way through Streeterville to the one and only Navy Pier. Keep your feet on the ground or ride to the top of their nearly 200-ft Ferris Wheel, and watch those “Likes” tally up. Don’t forget to tag @ConciergePreferred in your next post! DRINK

Where to Drink in Chicago with #Views By Katie Cooper

Up, down, and all around, Chicago is quite the looker. From the skyline after dark, all lit up and glittering against the night sky, to a warm day at the beach looking out on the peaceful waters of Lake Michigan. There’s no shortage of scenery in this concrete jungle. Also not in short supply? Stiff cocktails and tasty brews. So if you’re looking to blow up that social feed with FOMO-inducing feels, combining the two will most certainly do the trick. Get familiar with these top places to drink in Chicago with #views.

Cindy’s Rooftop Located on top of the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel, the view from Cindy’s Rooftop has it all — glimpses of sparkling Lake Michigan, Michigan Ave., and The Bean (to name a few sight highlights). And their incredible craft cocktail menu can’t be beaten. One sip of their Old Fashioned and you’ll know what we mean. 46 | CONCIERGE PREFERRED

The Lakefront at Theatre on the Lake This recently restored 1920s-era building couldn’t set a more perfect scene for drinks lakeside. Their Skyline Patio, open seasonally, boasts one-of-a-kind views of Lake Michigan and the city skyline, offering a diverse selection of craft beers, spirits, and wine.

CINDY’S ROOFTOP

Leviathan (Mary Skoubis, Drake Hotel) If your first thought is “sea monster,” you wouldn’t be entirely off base. Concierge Mary Skoubis of the Drake Hotel can personally vouch for this stylish lounge found at the Dana Hotel and Spa. The views are made that much more whimsical when paired with their nautically-themed cocktail list featuring names like the Siren Song and Maelstrom.

Rebar For sushi, specialty cocktails, and remarkable views of the Chicago River and Michigan Ave. Bridge, look no further than this high-end lounge in the Trump Hotel Chicago. Keep things classic with their G&T or spice things up with Light My Fire, made with — among other things — tequila and spicy caviar pearls.

London House Rooftop (Shannon Boland, London House) Why settle for one level of views when you could have three? Concierge Shannon Boland of The London House knows that for cocktails, sweeping views of the Chicago River and Michigan Mile, and even a spot of tea, there’s no better place to find it all than LH.

City Winery on the Riverwalk (Marcus Hollis, The Omni Hotel) It’s easy to miss the Chicago Riverwalk when you’re constantly looking up at the skyscrapers overhead. But as Concierge Marcus Hollis of The Omni Hotel can attest to, places like City Winery are a must-add to the to-do list. In addition to top-notch patio views and beverages, you can also take a tour of their fully functioning winery and catch live music from names like Steve Earle and Los Lonely Boys. BASSMENT

4 Coolest That Need to End Up on Your Snapchat Story By Dustin Ford Sometimes the experience gets so intense that all you can manage to do is watch and share, and streaming on your Snapchat story is the perfect way to bring others into the party. Well, we know a couple places that are worth sharing. Three Dots and a Dash Known for its rich, tropical theme and unique drink selection this tiki bar is mesmerizing. Watching the mixologists create these cocktails is like watching an artist with paint and easel, except with exotic fruit and premium rums and liquors. The end result is a bubbling, smoking, and fizzing concoction standing tall in a unique vessel; it’s like looking into a lava lamp that you can drink. Bassment If you can find the secret speakeasy entrance to this lively music lounge, then you’ll find

your name on the list of this exclusive party. Take your charred, sweet drink in a lightbulb or bathtub and dance away the night. Watch out for little ducks; you’ll know what that means soon enough. Hard Rock Café This famous Café is known for more than it’s rocking tunes and rockstar eats. Walking into a hard rock café is like walking into Museum of instruments and rock memorabilia. You can’t walk 3 feet in any direction without running into some a huge piece of music history! Untitled Supper Club This swanky joint houses the largest American Whisky collection in the world. The prohibition-era style coupled with live American classic music during the day and vintage retro-pop in the nightlife allows you to dance through the decades.

Judson Corrie Chef Concierge, Waldorf Astoria Hotel Dusek’s, Punch House, Thalia Hall, Tack Room

“No where else in the city is there so much to do in one building. This historic structure houses some of the best reasons to head South to Pilsen. Helmed by their Michelinstarred Dusek’s with high-brow pub grub, followed by charming piano bar Tack Room, retro basement drinkery, Punch House and one of the hottest venues in town, Thalia Hall, hosting big names in a funky, intimate space.” 48 | CONCIERGE PREFERRED

Check out The Showcase on Tuesdays where you’ll be treated to performances by an alternating cast of Chicago Magic Lounge company members performing their new and experimental works.’ The best part? Every night will be different so you’ll never see the same show twice! Toland’s incredible show, Mind Reader, will keep you mesmerized from start to finish with psychological illusions and mysteries of the mind.

Bathroom Selfies. Yes, Really. Even the bathrooms are magical! Take your standard bathroom selfie to the next level in Chicago Magic Lounge’s oh-so-totally Instagrammable bathroom. A mind-bending floor vortex (floortex?) will have you questioning whether or not you really need to use the toilet, but at the same time you’ll be so intrigued that you will automatically be pulling out your iPhone to add it to your Insta story. Cocktails Almost Too Pretty To Drink Get in the ‘spirit’ of a great evening out at the Chicago Magic Lounge bar. The cleverlynamed drinks on the Chicago Magic Lounge cocktail menu boast a variety of liquors and flavors that you absolutely need to try. From the Sleight of Hand to the How Houdini Died, there is a drink for everyone in your group. Don’t miss out on the Smoke and Mirrors, a mezcal cocktail made with a fire ball! Watch the bartender closely, because this firey concoction makes a perfect Boomerang.

KINGSTON MINES: 60 YEARS OF ICONIC CHICAGO BLUES By Erica Abdnour Since 1968, Kingston Mines in Lincoln Park has been a Chicago staple in the iconic blues scene. Seven nights a week, Kingston Mines’ two stages boast some of the most talented blues musicians, making for the perfect night out to experience authentic Chicago blues. Grab a Bite - Anytime What’s better than a menu full of comfort food? A menu full of comfort food that’s served all night long! EVENT PLANNING: PARTY@KINGSTONMINES.COM

Date night? Going out with your boys? Catching up with an old friend? Or maybe it’s Girls Night Out? Well, Chicago’s got a bar for any occasion you may have. So lace up those high tops, slip on those beloved stilettos and head on out to one of Chi-town’s many legendary watering holes.

Billy Sunday (@billysundaychicago):

Fat Cat (@fatcatchicago):

Located in the historic Logan Square neighborhood is this hidden gem that surpasses all expectations. Low lit candle light, craft artisanal cocktails, and knowledgeable friendly bartenders are just some of the essential ingredients that make this Prohibition inspired drinking establishment a true Chicago institution. So grab a bar stool, order a “Penicillin” (Scotch, Fermented Honey, Ginger Amaro, Lemon) and a bowl of “Puppy Chow” (Peanut Butter, Dark Chocolate) and see where the night takes you.

After catching a concert at the Aragon Ballroom or the Rivera Theater, head on over to this hopping neighborhood destination in Uptown. Known for their micro brews, Instagram worthy food, and weekly viewing parties, Fat Cats has continued for over 10 years now to be the go-to spot for the locals. One bite of their Jack and Coke Chicken and Waffles or a sip of one of their select American micro brews, and you’ll understand why Chicagoans consider this spot the cat’s pajamas.

Punch House (@punchhousechicago): Tucked away underneath Thalia Hall in the artsy Pilsen neighborhood, is this Chicago dive bar which the locals prefer to keep all to themselves. Once inside, you’ll be transported to a funky hip 70s inspired lounge, where fondue pots reign supreme and finishing one of their multiple enormous fish bowl sized punches becomes a rite of passage. Japanese Disco, Soul, Cold Wave, Afro Beat, Post-Punk and Latin are just some of the eclectic music genres you’ll be jamming to in your NEW favorite Chicago nighttime destination.

The Hideout (@hideoutchicago): For those looking for that uber-cool spot that features live nightly bands, cold cheap drinks, and unabashed dancing every weekend, look no further than the Hideout in Pulaski Park. The Hideout’s history stretches back to 1881 when it was a boarding house for Chicago’s immigrant steel workers and then as a Prohibition bar in the 20s. Now it’s that intimate, must-see, unique, bar experience you didn’t realize you couldn’t truly live without having. So throw on that old Smashing Pumpkins t-shirt, order an Old Style and party like you’re a native Chicagoan!

Emporium Wicker Park (@emporiumchicago): Large craft beer selection? Check. Live local bands performing every weekend? Check. Your favorite old school arcade games that you spent countless hours and quarters every weekend as a kid to master until your thumbs went numb? Check. Opening in 2012 Emporium set the early tone for the barcade scene and culture in Chicago and continues to do so. You know you can’t resist challenging your friends to an AC/DC pinball tournament….

Where to Find Your

#OOTD

OUTFIT OF THE DAY By Katie Cooper Confidence may be the best accessory, but let’s face it — a wide-leg jumpsuit paired with strappy stilettos never hurt nobody. (Never mind the blisters.) For all things fashion, Chicago delivers. So grab your Instagram boyfriend, or a bestie with an eye for your best angles, and strike a pose. Hit these glam-packed hot spots for a Pinterest-worthy OOTD. Zara Walk the Magnificent Mile and keep your credit card handy. When it comes to highend designs from brands like Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Jimmy Choo and Bulgari, the gang’s all here. That being said, you can still look like a million bucks without having to spend it. At the corner of Huron and Michigan Ave sits Zara, a Spanish chain that is always on-trend. From power workwear to cocktail chic, here’s where you’ll find a look for every board.

The Shops at North Bridge On the 500-block of N Michigan Ave., The Shops at North Bridge are all about variety. Find staple pieces at their 4-story Nordstrom’s, cheap and trendy favorites at Forever 21, and everything in between across stores like Lucky Brand, Charming Charlie, and M.A.C. Cosmetics. After hours spent in dressing rooms, you can then make your way down to Eataly. Their Italian market is prime for tasty treats and a glass of wine. Moon Voyage Ride the Blue Line to Damen and point your fashionista compass towards Moon Voyage. This Wicker Park boutique is bright, cheery, and full of beautiful clothing, accessories, and jewelry from emerging designers. You never know what you’re going to find in their rotating collection full of eccentric patterns, vintage-inspired fabrics, and bold bling. But whatever it is, know that it’ll look good saddled up next to the Big Star bar — located kitty-corner from the store — for tacos and margs.

AllSaints If edgy is what you’re after, edgy is what you’ll find. Located inside Bloomingdale’s at 900 N Michigan Ave., AllSaints is a must for basics and statement pieces alike. Biker jackets, animal print, leather leggings, and lace-up boots with the right amount of heel — you’ll be feeling camera-ready from head-to-toe. Anthony Gates

Chef Concierge, The Gwen

“I always recommend the Magnificent Mile and State Street shopping areas. In particular, Nordstrom’s at the Shops at North Bridge, Water Tower Place, 900 N. Michigan Shops, Marshall’s, Nordstrom Rack, H&M, and Saks Fifth Avenue, just to name a few. I also recommend the Fashion Outlet Mall in Rosemont, the Bucktown/Wicker Park area, and the Armitage/Halsted area.”

“Head to Embellish! This wonderful gem in the North center area actually sells gems - jewelry, clothing and accessories all made by local designers. It’s a little bit more female-focused but they have been known to carry some men’s accessories as well. After shopping, enjoy some time at Half Acre Brewery tasting room or even the Northmen - the first cider bar in Chicago.” APRIL-MAY 2019 ISSUE | 55
