The Take a Stand Center’s four interactive galleries guide visitors through social justice issues, empowering them with knowledge and inspiration and reminding them to be an Upstander against hatred in all its forms. Driehaus Museum What did a map from the 1893 World’s Fair look like? Just how magnificent was Louis Comfort Tiffany’s chapel? All of these answers plus more at Treasures from the White City: The Chicago World’s Fair of 1893. Celebrating the fair’s 125th anniversary, this exhibit will feature objects and memorabilia collected by Richard H. Driehaus that were designed for and exhibited at the fair. American Writers Museum The first literary exhibited dedicated to Bob Dylan in more than 10 years comes to the American Writers Museum in November. STARVED ROCK COUNTRY IS A  MUST-VISIT IN FALL

Few places in the Midwest are more beautiful in fall than Starved Rock and the area surrounding it. Located 90 miles southwest of Chicago, here’s a look at our favorite things to do and see near this Illinois gem. Nature Excursions Featuring 13 miles of trails twisting and turning through 18 glacier-carved canyons, Starved Rock State Park is a stunner and must-see for its awe-inspiring beauty. Whether you’re looking to take a stroll in Aurora Canyon or wanting to tackle the challenging Lover’s Leap, the natural beauty pairs perfectly with fall foliage. Oh, did we mention there’s also waterfalls? Fourteen of them to be exact. Other leaf-peeping nature excursions include Matthiessen State Park, which includes a one-mile canyon and charming little lake, and Buffalo Rock State Park, which offers broad views of the Illinois River on a bluff that once was an island within the river. The best part? Like all Illinois state parks, they’re free to enjoy.

Historic Ottawa Go mural spotting in downtown Ottawa! Murals throughout town depict everything from the day of the first Lincoln-Douglas senatorial debate to the renowned Peltier Glass Factory, which provided glass to the Ford Motor Company in the early 20th century. Ottawa is also where the Boy Scouts of America began. For a fun history lesson, and to check out some great memorabilia, pop into the Ottawa Scouting Museum. For a taste of the area’s arts scene, make sure to visit Starved Rock Hot Glass, a glassblowing studio and gallery specializing in original hand-blown art glass, jewelry, and cremation glass. The studio offers workshops to visitors, too, so you can take home a keepsake work of art from your adventures. Local Libations

WHERE TO STAY River House Bed and Breakfast, an 1890 Queen Anne set high on a bluff. Fox River Bed and Breakfast. Famous aviator Charles Lindbergh spent the night here in 1926.

Not every independent brewery can claim to grow their own hops, but a local harvest is at the heart of Tangled Roots Brewing Company. Located in Ottawa, they plant, cultivate, and harvest their own hand-grown hops and barley just south of the brewery's home base. That commitment to sourcing local rings true at their neighboring brewpub, The Lone Buffalo, too. Their super seasonal menu utilizes products from local farmers and producers. Brewery tours are offered Thursday-Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. Advance booking is required. Thirsty for more? Head to nearby Utica and visit the August Hill Winery Tasting Room whose sparkling wine brand, Illinois Sparkling Company, is created using the same process that’s used for making Champagne in Champagne, France.

A neighborhood favorite in Ukrainian Village, The Anthem has walls of TVs and huge projector screens so you are sure to have an excellent view of the games. Order up the chicken tenders (they are huge) and one of their burgers, and you are set for a full day of football viewing action. #ChicagoInsiders tip? They also have a delicious Bloody Mary you’d be remiss not to try.

As a Western New York native, I will admit that I'm very picky about chicken wings, as you might expect, so for me when it’s game time I'll trek on over to Mother Hubbard's. A no-frills dive bar in River North, the atmosphere is perfect for football. Beer prices are quite reasonable for the area, and the hot wings are deep fried and loaded with Frank's Red Hot (AKA the only hot sauce you should be using on wings).

Ditka's on Chestnut. Why? Because you have got to watch Da Bears at Da Coach's Restaurant. The bar has tired seating so you can see the four massive TVs in the bar with no obstructions. The "Fridge" Burger is my go-to and the Bloody Mike (Bloody Mary) comes with an Iron Mike beer chaser (their signature beer). Bloodies not your thing? Then opt for a pint of the Iron Mike with your burger.

Smoke Daddy is a favorite of mine. They have lots of screens (essential for fantasy football action) and one of the best darn Bloody Mary's around. Added bonus? It comes with a brisket garnish! Food-wise, they have all of the barbecue basics covered and their side dishes are equally as stellar.

Timothy O’Toole’s Pub is a subterranean Streeterville sports pub offering a variety of ways to cheer on Chicago’s beloved Bears. Get your game on by visiting the bloody Mary bar, mimosa bar, or choosing from 48 brews on tap. You will be able to see a TV screen in any direction you look, and their extensive menu goes way beyond typical bar food.

For a low-key post up experience, Jake Melnick’s Corner Tap in the Gold Coast is a gem. Offering a stellar and extensive beer selection this local favorite also serves great bar food. While they are known for their wings—whose flavors range from classic Buffalo to PB&J—their barbecue platters and brick oven pizzas won’t disappoint.

6 ICONIC CHICAGO EATS TO TRY By Amber Holst

Avec’s dates: Fall in love with their signature chorizo-stuffed medjool dates wrapped in bacon. (They’ve become somewhat of a local legend.)

1

Garrett Mix from Garrett Popcorn Shops: It’s the perfect combination of sweet and savory, and what’s basically been dubbed “Chicagostyle” popcorn. Try it, you’ll thank us later.

2

5 Reasons to Experience the New Chicago Chop House By Amber Holst

It’s Classic Chicago

A Depression Era Dog: Say what?! Yes, a Chicago Style hot dog is a must-try. But we also have this bad boy, and Gene & Jude’s is the only one that’s got it.

3

Ricobene’s Breaded Steak Sandwich: A South Side fave, sink your teeth into this delicious behemoth with breaded steak (duh), red sauce, mozza, and giardiniera (also a Chicago thing).

4

Situated in a landmark brownstone from 1897, Chicago’s history is framed on every wall of this legendary eatery, including the city’s only complete portrait set of every Chicago mayor (not even City Hall can boast that honor). Complementing the experience, the veteran staff here are practically experts on this place’s history. For the Meat With 26 cuts of meat on the menu, this icon is home to one of the last blade saws in the city and does all of their butchery in-house. Looking for a different cut? No problem. If it fits in the broiler, they’ll cook it. So far they’ve managed to fit a 100-ounce cut in there. Perfect Pairings Pair your meal with a glass or bottle from their award-winning, international wine list that includes more than 650 selections from 350 different wine makers. Looking to splurge? Why not opt for a vertical tasting? Their Seafood’s No Slouch

Italian Beef: Portillo’s has got you faded. Order like so: “Big beef, sweet and hot peppers, dipped”. Boom. You’re a natural.

5

Deep Dish ‘Za: It’s one of Chicago’s claims to fame, and everyone has a favorite. Ask your concierge for what they feel is the best version in town.

6

POST LIKE A LOCAL Use #ChicagoInsiders in your posts as you document your culinary adventures around town.

Start out with their jumbo shrimp cocktail. Matthew McCahill, the owner, is an alumni of the legendary (though now defunct) Nick’s Fishmarket. He’s one of the only people that has their old cocktail sauce recipe and has revamped the one here, making it cult-status worthy. Irish Influences Sure, there’s green walls and a bar on every floor, Irish butter, and one heck of a stuffed baked potato. But the real gem here is the Irish Coffee. The owner drew his inspiration from San Francisco’s Buena Vista Cafe. It’s really the best we’ve had in Chicago.

For some of the finest Ethiopian cuisine in town, head on up to Uptown and experience Demera. Vegetarian? There might not be a better food for you than Ethiopian, which features a wide range of vegetables stewed in spice combinations that are rarely used in other cuisines. Hate being bound by the rules and regulations of silverware? Perfect, as all the food is served with injera (a spongy, sourdough-risen flatbread) that you tear apart and use to scoop up your portions.

Strings Ramen in Chinatown. I love the seafood ramen with the miso broth. Added bonus? If you run out of noodles you can order extra, full or half orders, depending on how much broth is left. #ChicagoInsiders tip: They do not take reservations, but it is well worth the wait. Plus it’s in the heart of Chinatown so you can do a bit of exploring as well.

Chicago has a ton of amazing Italian restaurants! Having just gotten engaged in Italy myself, I love being tucked away in the charming booths at Acanto. Located just steps away from “The Bean” at Millennium Park, this adorable restaurant has hand-rolled pastas, wonderful seasonal risottos, and a wine list to die for!

A place I find myself often is Ca Phe Da, a wonderful Vietnamese cafe in the predominantly Mexican neighborhood of Pilsen. They have a very nice assortment of interesting Bahn Mi and Pho, but I love the simple “Worker's Special” which is a bowl of sticky rice, some well-seasoned chicken, and some pickled vegetables. Paired with a lovely lychee pastry? Doesn’t get much better than that.

Café Touché is a charming, classic French bistro in Edison Park. Popular with locals, this gem boasts a quaint atmosphere and delectable dishes. My favorite is just spending an evening sipping a great wine and working my way through their Les Hors-D’Oeuvres selections.

One of the few remaining Polish restaurants on Milwaukee Avenue, make sure to visit Staropolska Restaurant in Logan Square. I enjoy having their potato pancakes with applesauce on the side and you can't go wrong with the Polish Plate which has dumplings, stuffed cabbage and sausage with pasztecik, and sauerkraut.

3 REASONS TO TRY INDIA HOUSE By Amber Holst

5 REASONS YOU’LL GET HOOKED ON CATCH 35 By Amber Holst India House’s wide-array of offerings and prime location make it the go-to dining destination for those looking to satisfy their craving for Indian cuisine

DINNER & A SHOW Just a short walk from all of the major downtown theaters, Catch 35 is the go-to pre-theater dining spot and a concierge favorite. Fun fact? If you use their valet, the cost ($12) is deducted from your check. Bonus? You don’t have to pick your car up until after the show. LIVE JAZZ 5 NIGHTS A WEEK The lounge at Catch 35 has become a popular gathering spot to have a few drinks, bites, and to take in some great music. The Eric Hochberg Trio performs every Tuesday-Saturday starting at 6 p.m. and features an everchanging roster of critically acclaimed jazz musicians.

A Flavorful Bang for the Buck

Go On a Culinary Adventure

Bar naan, this is one of the best deals downtown. For $14.95 (Mon.-Thurs.) or $17.95 (Fri.-Sun) start things off by noshing on the unlimited naan and sizzling hot tandoori chicken (which is promptly brought to your table) before digging into the seemingly endless options at the buffet. While some of the dishes change daily, offerings include their delicious chicken tikka masala swimming in a rich cream sauce, samosas, several types of curries just begging to be ladled over rice, and various vegetarian options like the paneer makhani, fresh cheese cooked in a creamy tomato sauce.

Drawing inspiration from the cuisine of Bombay and Delhi, as well as Indian street fare and homestyle tandoori cooking, the flavors you’ll experience here are plentiful, and more importantly, authentic. Seasoned curry-philes can expand their Indian repertoire beyond the admittedly-delicious mainstays and for those unfamiliar with Indian food, this is a perfect introduction. Dishes here are all elegantly served with gorgeous bowls and serving spoons, and the well-appointed and plush environs, makes it a great destination for a fancier night out or business dinner.

Sweet Treats Save room for dessert! The mango kulfi, or ice cream, is outstanding. So is the kheer, a rice pudding cooked with sweetened milk, raisins, and almonds.

NO-FAIL WINE PAIRINGS Seafood and wine make a natural pair, and Catch 35’s diverse and progressive wine list delivers on all counts. From tried-and-true big name labels to their impressive lineup of small, boutique wineries, the selection here truly offers something for every palate. FAVORITE DISHES Two tried-and-true dishes that top concierges’ lists are Catch 35’s Chilean sea bass with a complex yet delicate Hawaiian ginger scallion sauce and their signature Szechuan scallop appetizer that will have you hooked after one bite. BANG FOR THE BUCK Catch 35 offers their 3-course, $37 prix fixe menu anytime. The first course is a choice of soup or salad, second course offers a choice of one of their signature dishes, with the third course being a choice of one option from their dessert menu.

e

Tavern at the Park boasts a menu of beautifully-crafted, upscale American eats and is the perfect spot to entertain clients when in town for a convention or on business. David Gonzalez CHEF CONCIERGE, ST. JANE

For the perfect mix of old school and modern dining, you can’t go wrong with Prime & Provisions in the Loop. The menu boasts extravagant shellfish towers, all the cobb and wedge salads one could want, stellar seafood options, and big steaks dry-aged on site. #ChicagoInsiders tip: You can cozy up on their covered patio to enjoy a cigar after your meal. 5 Spots for Wining & Dining By Amber Holst

Eric Loughlin CONCIERGE, THE WIT

For me, nothing impresses quite like a steak dinner! Benny's Chophouse is my “go to” for spoiling guests with a fantastic dining experience. Benny's features all you would expect from a top-of-theline steakhouse in addition to wonderful fish selections and a killer rack of lamb. Wine and cocktails are on point, as to be expected.

A great place to impress, without seeming like you’re trying too hard, is The Gage. Located across from Millennium Park, the menu offers everything from crispy chicken livers to housemade sausages and their must-try PEI mussels (if only for the wonderfully flavorful broth). Rounding out the bill of fare is an award-winning libations list and an great selection of boutique Irish whiskeys and single malts. Diane Martinez

CONCIERGE, PALMER HOUSE HILTON

if you’re in the mood for some body-warming French bistro fare in a historic setting that’s sure to impress, you can’t beat Mon Ami Gabi in Lincoln Park. A classic brasserie located in the iconic Belden Stratford, this neighborhood gem is sure to delight with classics like French onion soup, beef bourguignon, and steak frites. Adding to the restaurant’s charm, wine is served by the glass or bottle from their signature rolling wine cart. Something for Everyone

YOLK IS CHICAGO’S POWER BREAKFAST SPOT By Amber Holst

This favorite is basically Chicago’s Mecca for eggs Benedict. You can’t go wrong with the classic variation, but their pot roast benny is a stand-out dish. Prefer sweet to savory? We love their banana nut bread French toast and their creative, rotating “pancake of the month” selections. Easy Pick for Business & Breakfast Let’s face it, for business meetings, breakfast is the new lunch. With three locations within a short 10 minute Lyft/Uber ride from McCormick Place, Yolk is the perfect spot for some deal-making and collaboration. Added bonus? The seasoned staff never makes you feel rushed. So go ahead, order that second cup of Joe and keep the conversation going. Hate Waiting? No Problem. We all know that breakfast, particularly on a weekend, may require a wait. Did you know that your concierge can help you jump the line? Just grab their business card and present it to the host once you arrive and your name will move toward the top of the list, essentially cutting wait time in half.

The Experience

Their Craveable Menu

Since 1983, Hooters has been like a day at the beach and America’s favorite wing joint. If you’re looking to kick back for a fun and casual meal, their Wells Street location in River North is an exciting place to catch all the football games on flat screen TVs (there’s not a bad vantage point in the house) while enjoying a great selection of beer, wine, and cocktails served by the world-famous Hooters Girls (of course!).

No matter if you’re looking to delve into a some gooey Lotsa Tots or dip fried pickles in some ranch (theirs is one of our favorites), it’s all about well-executed bar eats here. Known globally for their wings, we’d be remiss not to wax nostalgic about theirs. It’s what they’re known for after all, so get your Wet Naps ready and prepare to do some work. Wings not your thing? Hooters’ also has great seafood options, delicious salads, and an all new Most Valuable Burger menu featuring a wide variety of toppings so you can create the burger of your dreams.

#ChicagoInsiders Tip: Don’t miss out on the great happy hour specials on food and drinks offered at the Wells Street location every Monday through Thursday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Stop 1: Kristoffer’s Café & Bakery

5 Must-Dos in Pilsen Here’s a look at where to eat and what to see in this culturally-rich neighborhood. By Amber Holst

Located on the art-gallery laden stretch of Halsted Street in Pilsen, this Mexican sweets shop and coffee house is known for their tres leches (three milk) cake. It’s so good, in fact, that celebrated chef Rick Bayless named it as his favorite. Award-winning baked good aside, this local spot also brews speciality coffees making it the ideal first stop to fuel up for your Pilsen excursion. Stop 2: National Museum of Mexican Art Why? Because it’s the leading national authority on Mexican art. It’s also the only Latino museum accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. This cultural treasure boasts a 7,000-plus piece permanent collection, rotating exhibits, and performing-arts showcases that represents an illustrious Mexican culture. Each fall, it hosts the city’s most-visited Día de Muertos exhibit. Stop 3: Carnitas Uruapan A small storefront located across the street from the 18th Street Pink Line stop, this is a must-do if you’re looking for authentic eats. There’s one delicious catch, though. You’ll only find one kind of taco here, and that’s carnitas. Ordered by the pound, the slow-cooked pork comes served to you on a platter with corn tortillas and some salsa verde alongside. You get to concoct your own taco, which is part of fun! Stop 4: Pilsen Murals Bounded by 16th Street to the North, the Chicago River to the East, and Western Avenue to the West, take a leisurely stroll after lunch to explore the incredible masterpieces of large-scale, urban public art that dot this colorful neighborhood. From graffiti art to tile mosaics, these inspiring works—many of which depict Mexican icons and culture—only add to this neighborhoods rich, colorful, and vibrant history. Stop 5: Thalia Hall

MURALS IN PILSEN

A

Originally built as a performance hall in 1892—and modeled after Prague’s Opera House—Thalia Hall sat vacant since the 1960s, but has recently been restored to its original glory. Today, the reimagined space includes a restored performance venue, a beer-centric restaurant with a Michelin-starred chef, and an underground bar that specializes in punch.

4 WAYS TO EXPERIENCE CHICAGO STYLE MAGIC By Amber Holst

By Amber Holst

The Chicago Magic Lounge has reinvented the classic “magic bar” that once dotted the city’s nightlife landscape. Experience it for yourself, if you can find the entrance. Music and Magic Monday and Tuesday Nights at 7:30 p.m. This weekly show features new and established jazz acts performing live on stage while resident house magicians simultaneously perform close-up magic at your table. If live music, magic at your table, and a cocktail in hand weren’t enough, there’s also a taste of stage magic with a 20 minute performance in the middle of the show.

3 REASONS BLUE MAN GROUP DELIGHTS

David Parr’s Cabinet of Curiosities Wednesday Nights at 7:30 p.m. Magic nerds, rejoice! Every Wednesday you can see David Parr, creator of the critically acclaimed Magic Cabaret and winner on the hit TV show Penn & Teller: Fool Us. David has gathered his favorite artifacts and stories to share in this interactive show of mystery and magic. But wait! There’s more. Each performance is accompanied by bar and table-side magic.

The Signature Show Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. & 10 p.m.

The Family Show Sundays at 2 p.m.

It’s their signature show for a reason, it’s what they were built for! Start your evening in their Performance Bar (open daily sans Sundays) where magicians will dazzle you with their sleight-of-hand tricks before venturing into the cabaret that will host five magicians swarming the room for up-close magic in addition to stage acts. Want more? Purchase premium tickets and continue the magic party in the intimate 654 Club in the back.

It’s no secret, kids love magic. Adults do, too, once they rediscover it. With those two things in mind, the Family Show was born. This 45-minute matinee is perfect for tykes ages 5 and up and features a family-friendly magician who is guaranteed fill the pint-sized set with a sense of wonder and bring out the child in all the adults. Forget what you think you know about children’s magicians. This sophisticated act is child-friendly, not childish.

It’s a Colorful Celebration

You’re More than a Spectator

Blue Man Group performances are a celebration of human connection. Mixing art, music, comedy and state-of-theart technology, the show encourages audiences to reconnect with their inner (and outer) child and see the world through a new perspective. Three bald and blue men explore our cultural norms with wonder, poking fun at our collective quirks and reminding us how much we all have in common. Backed by a live rock band, the Blue Men unify the audience for the show’s celebratory climax – an unforgettable, euphoric dance party.

Whether it’s sharing Twinkies with the trio, donning a poncho in the splash zone, or being shamed as a latecomer audience participation, voluntary and involuntary, is a key component. Coupled with the hypnotic music and lively energy—if you’re not out of your seat dancing when the 90 minutes are up, you probably don’t have a pulse. A Few Fun Facts For kids and adults, many of the best parts of the show is when the Blue Men do what we’ve all been taught not to do—play with food and make a mess with paint. Every week the production goes through 50 gallons of paint, 32 pounds of Jell-O, 44 boxes of Twinkie Lights, 8 boxes of Cap’n Crunch cereal, 40 pieces of white chocolate Toblerone, and 385 marshmallows.

ACTIVISTS AND ICONS: The Photographs of Steve Schapiro is a Must-See Exhibit By Amber Holst

Be transported into the lives of the principal protagonists of the 20th century at this special exhibition opening Oct. 7 at the Illinois Holocaust Museum.

TO INFINITY AND THE MUSEUM OF SCIENCE AND INDUSTRY Here’s 3 reasons you need to check out this exhibit By Amber Holst

From Science to Storytelling See how your favorite pictures come to life at The Science Behind Pixar exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago. Spanning an impressive 13,000 square feet, the special exhibition will offer guests of all ages an inside look at how the studio uses science, technology, and engineering concepts to bring beloved films such as Inside Out, Brave, and The Incredibles to the silver screen.

Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali), Louisville, Kentucky, 1963

James Baldwin, Harlem church, New York, New York, 1963

He's a Legend

What You’ll See

Why it Matters

Renowned Chicago-based photographer Steve Schapiro has given history a human face throughout his career, contributing images to Life, Look, Newsweek, Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, and numerous other publications. His prolific output includes portraits of the most influential celebrities of our time, ranging from Muhammad Ali to David Bowie, from Truman Capote to Barbra Streisand – all of whom appear in the exhibition.

Viewers will experience the breadth of the civil rights movement, as well as vivid portraits of celebrities who challenged - and changed - our cultural norms. The exhibition’s 46 large-format photographs tell the story of seminal moments in history from the March on Washington (1963) to Robert Kennedy’s presidential campaign (1968). Schapiro’s documentary approach comprises emotional portraits of heroes ranging from Rosa Parks to a sanitation striker while other images suggest how martyrs become icons.

The Illinois Holocaust Museum, founded by Holocaust Survivors, is dedicated to giving voice to human experience. Activists and Icons: The Photographs of Steve Schapiro exemplifies the museum’s call to action: “Take History to Heart. Take a Stand for Humanity.” Schapiro’s subjects have done that, as has the photographer, by using his powerful imagery to tell stories through the human face. The exhibition is free with museum admission.

All photographs © Steve Schapiro courtesy of Fahey Klein Gallery

Go Behind-the-Scenes The exhibit zeros in on eight steps of the filmmaking process (modeling, rigging, surfaces, sets and cameras, animation, simulation, lighting, and rendering) through 40-plus interactive elements, giving guests the chance to engage with and understand the innovative work that goes into creating Pixar’s worlds and characters. Something for Everyone You can learn how the massive world was created from a bug’s eye view in A Bug’s Life, how Merida’s fiery curls were meticulously researched and animated in Brave, and even a few fun facts like why 90 percent of all the monsters in Monsters, Inc. have the same tongue as Mike. Added bonus? You get to snap straight-to-instagram-worthy photos with life-sized recreations of your favorite Pixar characters. 5 Decadent Spots for Date Night By Amber Holst

Gilt Bar Candle-lit? Check. Super moody? Check. This River North hideaway beckons with its dark leather booths and soft, sexy lighting. There’s limitless spots where you can sink into seclusion with your date while you both enjoy their inventive menu of shareable eats and carefully crafted drinks. Make sure to try their tenderloin steak tartare and save room for dessert, or at least a digestif. Geja's Cafe We can we say? It’s an oldie, but a goodie. Focused on fondue with a side of sexy, Geja’s Café in Lincoln Park isn't just a fondue place, it's a fondue place with live acoustic guitar. The cozy curtained booths and candlelit tables have set the scene for an intimate dining experience for over 50 years. As to be expected, everything is cooked in a sizzling fondue pot right at your table. From the creamy Swiss gruyere cheese start to the velvety Belgian chocolate finish, it’s a romantic classic for reason. Maude's Liquor Bar An upscale, Parisian-inspired cocktail lounge and restaurant, head up to the relaxed, dim, and inviting bar on the second floor. The dark atmosphere and soft amber lighting here make it one of Chicago’s best hideaway spots for date night. Cuddle up in one of the booths and sip on one of their well-executed craft cocktails—we’re partial to their Old Overholt Boulevardier—or one of their delicious wine pours. Nellcôte and RM Champagne Salon Make it a date night double header in the West Loop. Start off at Nellcôte, inspired by the French villa where the Rolling Stones famously recorded “Exile on Main Street”. The décor here is opulent enough to make Marie Antoinette proud and the European-inspired small plates deliver on all counts. Afterward head to RM Champagne Salon, Nellcôte’s tucked-away sibling next door, for petit fours and bubbles galore. The luxurious, European-inspired setting couldn’t be cozier, thanks to its fireplace and lovely chandeliers.

CHICAGO’S FAVE LIVE MUSIC PARTY BAR By Amber Holst

3 COCKTAILS BARS TO TRY NOW By Amber Holst

Wallflowers beware: With two dueling piano players, a raucous atmosphere, and audience participation near 100%, find out for yourself why Howl at the Moon is a concierge favorite and one of Chicago’s go-to places to let loose. Buckets ‘o Booze Sure, there’s a variety of cocktails, shots, and beers; but what fun is that when you and your squad can sip from an 86 ounce bucket of booze? If 86 ounces seems too much to handle, try the mini buckets, 32 adorable ounces of deliciousness that are perfect for two to share. It’s One Helluva Show Part bar and part concert, it’s a non-stop party with live music performed in a high-energy setting. Let’s just say, this isn’t your average live music bar. Get on the dance floor and join the talented musicians in rocking out to your favorite songs. They play everything from pop to classic rock to hip-hop. What are their Favorite Requested Songs? Howl at the Moon’s entertainers love nostalgia! Any song that reminds them of high school is right up their alley. As of right now, they love playing Demi Lovato’s “Sorry Not Sorry” and Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop The Feeling”.

CHEF CONCIERGE, THE GWEN

The original Sportsman’s Club was a popular hangout for the Polish immigrants that used to reside in the West Town area. That same Art Deco bar, while updated, still maintains a bit of that history and is an ideal spot to belly up for a drink. Walking in, you immediately want to order a glass of whiskey “neat”. I think it has something to do with the cozy decor, which include trophy animals on the walls. Although the Sportman's Cocktail is a staple, draft and bottle selections constantly change. The four speciality cocktails change daily, too, based on what the bartender feels like rocking that day. #ChicagoInsider tip: They’re cash only. Luis Torres

CONCIERGE, TRUMP INTERNATIONAL HOTEL & TOWER

Paying homage to both supper clubs and speakeasies, Untitled is a cocktailer’s paradise. Cozy up in their Whiskey Library or Parlour and marvel at their 550-plus curated selections of American whiskeys (it’s the largest of its kind). Their craft cocktail list is well-rounded, too, though I’m partial to their take on a classic Manhattan or negroni. Needless to say, their beverage program is no slouch and the prohibition-inspired vibe only adds to the experience. Mark Kraemer

CONCIERGE, HOTEL PALOMAR

The More You Know Howl at the Moon throws some awesome decade parties (the most popular being their ‘80s and ‘90s throwbacks), so make sure to ask your concierge when the next one is happening.

Mordecai is a chic restaurant/bar inside the Hotel Zachary, which is just a long foul ball’s distance from Wrigley Field. This cocktailcentric hotspot features one of the country’s largest selections of rare and collectible spirits, including an impressive selection of Pappy van Winkle releases. So if you’re like me and enjoy limited edition pours and classic drinks, this is a must-do for some elevated imbibing. Wondering what’s up with the name? It pays homage to early 20th-century Cubs ace pitcher Mordecai “Three Finger” Brown.

At the end of October, utilize your chance to see Nine Inch Nails at the Aragon Ballroom. The historic Aragon is nearly 100 years old and is designed to look like a Spanish Village on the inside. This particular show is something of an anomaly in today’s electronic world. Patrons had to line up and purchase physical tickets. Of course the resale market is alive and well, so ask your friendly neighborhood concierge to assist.

Kingston Mines is my tried and true option for live Chicago Blues in a gritty, authentic haunt perfect for tourists, locals, and musicians alike. With two stages for you to see two live bands in one night it isn’t uncommon to be running back and forth from room to room. You can witness Nellie “Tiger” Travis leave her heart on the stage with her powerhouse vocals and have your face melted by Joanna Connor’s guitar shredding in the next room all in one night.

For live music, sans pretense, I love Martyrs’. For its relatively small size, this North Center favorite has played host to a laundry list of artists whose next trip to Chicago was a much, much bigger venue (i.e. Beck, Death Cab for Cutie, etc.). In other words, this place has made a habit of bringing in musicians who are on the verge of blowing up. The sound quality is superb and their drink selections offer something for everyone.

Founded by Chicago Blues legend Buddy Guy, Buddy Guy’s Legends has hosted everyone from Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan to David Bowie and Lou Rawls. Today, local and national touring Blues players grace the stage every night. Needless to say, the music is always fantastic and you never know who will be in the audience. I once saw Mick Jagger there! It’s a live music “must do”, especially for fans of the genre.

Rotofugi is just my jam for unusual and artful designer toys, art, and pop culture items that are beautifully showcased. Although the name is meant to sound vaguely Japanese (as a nod to the designers who popularized this aesthetic), local Chicago-based artists actually create many of the shop’s designs.

I'm a huge fan of the old school, vintage record store and Wicker Park’s Shuga Records is exactly that and offers a great shopping experience from top to bottom. #ChicagoInsiders tip?
