These images depict the heart of Basotho tradition and culture: music and dance. Older Basotho women and young girls perform the dances during celebrations, such as wedding, initiation ceremonies and during Christmas.

The women’s dance Mokhibo is characterized by the rhythmic moving of the shoulders from a kneeling position and a song. Ululation from the crowd accompanies the dance. Litolobonya is performed mainly by young women in Lesotho, which involves a rhythmic movement of the hips. During the dance girls wear skirts made out of shredded maize bags. Maleeto and Phuthy of House of Thethana portray Basotho culture and highlight its contemporary relevance through design.
