to the 37th Annual Towaw Bull Sale.

Last summer was a bit of a tough one across much of Western Canada and especially in our part of the world. Record drought through the spring stretched into early September and certainly made for a shortage of hay and made for a shortened grazing season. Our grain silage crop was quite decent and we were able to put together enough feed for the winter. On the plus side it sure has been a great winter so far for temperatures and the cow herd is doing well on a diet mostly made up of straw. It is times like these that we are happy to have such an easy fleshing cowherd. Even though the political climate has changed just a bit, we continue to get up each morning and do what we love for a living. Raising a family, and Angus cattle, in the best country in the world is a pretty good way to spend your days.

Last year was an incredible one for record setting cattle prices! Peaking in September, we saw 650 lb. steer calves sell for nearly $2200. Even though things have corrected a bit it is still an incredibly profitable time to be in the cow calf business. The markets should be good for another couple of years yet, but this is also a time to look to the future when the prices may start to dip a bit. With the outstanding commercial market it has been easier for us to cull the bulls hard. Of the bull calves born in 2014, less than 50% are on offer in the sale. A big part of your bull purchase this year is not only his calves next spring, but also his daughtersâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; having their first calf three years from now. We have based our cowherd on the strong economic principles of fertility, longevity and easy fleshiness, and these traits are passed on to their sons. Towaw genetics are right for these times but will also not leave you in the lurch when every cow has to pay her way on a tighter budget. Once again this year Dave, Rhonda, Brooke and Bryce from Rainbow Red Angus are consigning a strong group of yearlings to the sale. We are continually impressed with how many miles and effort they put into their genetics. We have watched the kids, Brooke and Bryce, grow up before our eyes, and become very accomplished cattle breeders and showmen in their own right. Dave and his crew have always been a strong part of the sale and their exciting offering is chock full of new genetics highlighted by their embryo program. Kolby Heaven has been working with Rainbow, as well as our herd, and knows the genetics as well as any of us. All bulls in the sale sell with the same guarantee, and if a problem occurs please contact us so we can work to rectify the situation. We will be starting the sale at 2:00 pm MST. We feel this gives folks time to get things done at home and still have time to look at the bulls prior to the sale. If you canâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t make it to the sale we have a sight unseen purchase plan as well as a number of sales staff that would be able to bid on your behalf. We are also working with DLMS who will have the sale broadcast on the internet. TOWAW BULL WARRANTY

Towaw Cattle Co. and Rainbow Red Angus guarantee to sell you a bull that is structurally sound, and a bull that has passed a semen test conducted by a licensed veterinarian.

IN SHORT, WE GUARANTEE TO PROVIDE YOU WITH A SOUND BREEDING BULL. IF HE HASN’T PASSED A SEMEN TEST, HE DOESN’T SELL. Should any animal fail to be a satisfactory breeder, he will be replaced with a bull of equal value. Should this not be possible, an adjustment will be made to reflect the bull in question, as a credit towards the purchase of another bull. In no case shall credit exceed the purchase price of the bull. We however, will not provide replacement or adjustment for physical injury or mismanagement. Bearing this in mind, we stress the importance of insurance on your bulls. Should you have a problem with your bull, please call us right away, and we will work with you to make sure you are satisfied with your bull.

Sale Terms

RETAINED INTERESTS

We are selling some bulls in this sale as 2/3 interest and full possession. The 2/3 interest part means that the seller wishes to retain a 1/3 interest in the bull entitling him to use the bull through artificial insemination and sharing in any future drawing expenses and revenue of semen on a 1/3 basis. Full possession entitles the new owner to all physical rights to the bull. As in any other information, announcements from the block take precedence over any written information in the catalog.

DELIVERY & BOARD

A rebate of $50.00 per bull will be offered to buyers who bring their trailer and truck their bulls home themselves within one week of sale day. We Will deliver bulls free of charge within Western Canada or closest U.S. port of entry. Bulls will be kept at Towaw, free of charge, until April 20, 2015. If bulls are left longer a fee of $2.00 per day will be charged. Bulls are left entirely at the risk of the purchaser and we recommend that insurance be taken.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS TERMS: Unless otherwise previously arranged with Towaw Cattle Co., terms of this sale are cash or cheque, payable in Canadian funds. As soon as an animal is sold it becomes the responsibility of the purchaser. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Errors in the catalogue will be corrected by announcements from the stand at sale time, and such corrections will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. DISPUTES: In case of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters will be final.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY: A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer by the seller for each REGISTERED animal after settlement has been made. The bulls will be videotaped prior to the sale and on sale day we will have large TV screens set up with the bulls video running while they sell. EPDs: Expected Progeny Differences

CE: Calving Ease, U =Unassisted BW: Actual weight at birth WW: Weaning weight in lbs. Adjusted to 205 days. WI: Weaning Index - Weaning weight as a % of average WW of contemporaries. YW: Yearling weight in lbs. - calculated as adjusted 205 day weight + (ADG on feed x 165 days) YI: Yearling Index - Weight gain from Weaning to Yearling as a % of average gain of contemperaries. AOD: The actual age of the dam when she calved the bull offered for sale.

EPD’s are a powerful tool that is available for making genetic progress. EPD’s incorporate the performance of the individual, along with the performance of all its relatives. CE: Calving ease - the higher number predicts more calving ease. BW: Birth. A lower EPD predicts lower birthweights. WW: Weaning. High weaning EPD’s predict higher weaning weights. YW: Yearling. Higher yearling EPD’s indicate greater expected yearling weights. MILK: Milk EPD should be used to predict the milking ability of the daughters of the bulls in question. Higher milk EPD’s project more milk.

NOTE: All Indexes are calculated within herds, as management may differ somewhat.

After some tough negotiating we purchased a half interest in Zeppelin in the spring of 2014 from Mike Macdonald â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;s Windy Hill Stock Farm in Saskatchewan. He was extremely attractive fronted, good footed, long bodied, big hipped and had that deep red colour that is so popular in Red Angus circles. He left us a set of calves that pattern very much like himself and have impressed breeders both here and down at Smoky Y Red Angus in Kansas. Unfortunately we lost Zep to injury last summer, so his legacy will have to live on in his progeny. We were able to put up some semen last spring and some of the top breeders in North America used him in their programs.

FEATURE HERDSIRE PROSPECT Jimmy Page is named after the Led Zeppelin lead guitarist and he is definitely ready to lead a breeding program. We used him on a group of 25 heifers last summer and we are eagerly awaiting his calves in May. He is really long, attractive fronted, big testicled, stout hipped and deep red in colour. He has a huge ribeye, 15.3 actual, which also gave him an off the charts 66.6 Lean Meat Yield. His dam, a direct Indeed daughter, might be the best part about him as she is big ribbed, sound, milky and also exhibits that rich, red colour. He was our high weaning weight calf in 2015, and coupled with his 83 lb. BW, he is a heifer bull that will turn into a herd bull as he ages. We would like to use more of Jimmy in the future, so are retaining a 1/3 semen interest.

He puts it all together with his big hip, big rib, deep flank, and being extremely full through his heart girth. He is right in his structure, smooth and attractive in his neck and shoulder, while still being masculine with a big set of testicles. His damâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s first two bulls sold through the sale to Kidd Brothers and Gene and Jeannette Brown, and she weaned off one of our heaviest heifer calves this December. She is deep bodied and correct with a very good udder.

Calidad was our pick of the Brigadier sons we raised from embryos imported directly from Argentina. He is full of muscle and stays in good condition no matter how many cows we put him with. Calidad possesses a “true” Angus head, great footed, and is masculine throughout. He was used sparingly as a yearling in 2012, and produced the Champion Yearling heifer at Olds Fall Classic in 2014. His 2014 and 2015 group of calves have blown us away with their bone , muscle and correctness. His daughters are beautiful to look at and are laying down very nice udders with ample milk. His full ET brother is working in Grant and Tanya Chittick’s herd and they are excited about his offspring. Just this fall we sold the International Semen rights on Calidad to Semex Beef and we are excited to see how his genetics can make an impact around the world.

These two Deep Red Soldier sons are full Embryo brothers from the great A-1 Sierra cow. She sold for $19,000 in the Wildcat dispersal in Kansas and has cut a wide swath down there with her progeny. She is a direct Indeed daughter mated with the really good SSS Soldier bull from Lazy MC and Triple S. His semen, when you can find it, sells in the $500 per straw range. These two bulls are really attractive, smooth made heifer bull prospects that should also leave a great set of daughters.

Malbec was a past high seller in our Sale to Glesbar Farms for $16,000. We were able to use him in our summer program, and he did a great job extending the legacy of his sire, Basin EXT, in our herd. His dam, Georgina 298R, is one of our best producing cows and has a son in the sale as Lot #15. She was flushed to Indeed and Tiger for Argentina and her progeny have sold well down there. She also produced a high selling Indeed daughter at Red Roundup for Wrights in Saskatchewan. Malbec has big growth, great maternal, and very good carcass numbers. He ranks in the top 1% for Marbling, Milk, TM, and Maternal Calving Ease.

We used 157Z on a group of first calf heifers in 2013 based on the calving ease his full brother gave us the year previously in the same role. His dam was also one of our best cows producing deep bodied, easy fleshing offspring. 157Z was deep and soft made and really gave us good performance in his sons with low birth weights. He sold in our 2014 Sale to Ed Yuha from Silver Valley. His full brother, Kingman 33Y, was one of our high sellers in the 2013 Sale to Ole Farms in Athabasca, and gained notoriety as being the deep bodied cover model on our catalog front page the last few years.

This year Towaw will be donating a commercial, March born Red Angus heifer with the proceeds going to a very important charity that means a lot to us. The charity that the Donation Heifer funds will be going to this year is Make A Wish Northern Alberta. As many of you know, this charity gives children dealing with life threatening illnesses a once in a lifetime wish experience. Kids have been granted celebrity experiences, sporting event trips, backyard makeovers, RV’s, and the most popular wish, trips to meet Disney Characters. The volunteers and staff of this awesome organization do great things for many families in Northern Alberta that really deserve a break. Thomas was lucky enough to be granted a wish trip last April and he chose to go on a family vacation to Florida.

“If I had one word to describe the Make a Wish Foundation, that word would be awesome! That’s because everything about my trip was awesome. The parks were great and we also got a front of the line pass for each and every park. The Give Kids the World Resort was wonderful. The Blue Jays game was amazing. We were treated like royalty on the West Jet flights. This foundation is all about doing awe-inspiring things for kids who have gone through life threatening battles.”
