to the 36th Annual Towaw Bull Sale.

The last year has been a very good one here at Towaw. We had ample rain and sunshine, producing very good pasture, hay and grain crops. We weaned off as good a group of calves as we have ever produced in our 40 plus years of raising Purebred Red Angus. Mom and Dad continue to enjoy good health and are still spending part of the winter in Arizona. Thomas is over a year past his treatments and is growing like a weed. The twins are enjoying showing cattle and school and cheer activities. As a family we got to spend quite a bit of time at junior shows and really enjoyed it. Jill has also started selling livestock insurance as a new venture.

In last year’s catalog we talked about how good of a time it was to be in the cattle business. We wrote about buying price insurance to guarantee $1145 calves and $1445 yearlings. Well the market definitely blew by those numbers and cattle producers had their most profitable year in recent memory! The cattle numbers are down and we, as producers, are certainly reaping the benefits. The markets should be good for another couple of years yet, but this is also a time to look to the future when the prices may start to dip a bit. With the outstanding commercial market it has been easier for us to cull the bulls hard. Of the bull calves born in 2013, only about 40% are on offer in the sale. A big part of your bull purchase this year is not only his calves next spring, but also his daughters’ having their first calf three years from now. We have based our cowherd on the strong economic principles of fertility, longevity and easy fleshiness, and these traits are passed on to their sons. Towaw genetics are right for these times but will also not leave you in the lurch when every cow has to pay her way on a tighter budget. Once again this year Dave, Rhonda, Brooke and Bryce from Rainbow Red Angus are consigning a strong group of yearlings to the sale. Dave and his crew have always been a strong part of the sale and their exciting offering is chock full of new genetics highlighted by their embryo program. Kolby Heaven has been working with Rainbow, as well as our herd, and knows the genetics as well as any of us. All bulls in the sale sell with the same guarantee, and if a problem occurs please contact us so we can work to rectify the situation. We will be starting the sale at 2:00 pm MST. We feel this gives folks time to get things done at home and still have time to look at the bulls prior to the sale. If you can’t make it to the sale we have a sight unseen purchase plan as well as a number of sales staff that would be able to bid on your behalf. We are also working with DLMS who will have the sale broadcast on the internet. The DLMS information will be displayed on future pages where Mark Shologan and his crew can get you set up to bid online. Please join us for lunch prior to the sale, and a meal and refreshments after the sale as well. Towaw Bull Warranty

Towaw Cattle Co. and Rainbow Red Angus guarantee to sell you a bull that is structurally sound, and a bull that has passed a semen test conducted by a licensed veterinarian.

In short, we guarantee to provide you with a sound breeding bull. If he hasn’t passed a semen test, he doesn’t sell. Should any animal fail to be a satisfactory breeder, he will be replaced with a bull of equal value. Should this not be possible, an adjustment will be made to reflect the bull in question, as a credit towards the purchase of another bull. In no case shall credit exceed the purchase price of the bull. We however, will not provide replacement or adjustment for physical injury or mismanagement. Bearing this in mind, we stress the importance of insurance on your bulls. Should you have a problem with your bull, please call us right away, and we will work with you to make sure you are satisfied with your bull.

Sale Terms

Retained Interests

We are selling some bulls in this sale as 2/3 interest and full possession. The 2/3 interest part means that the seller wishes to retain a 1/3 interest in the bull entitling him to use the bull through artificial insemination and sharing in any future drawing expenses and revenue of semen on a 1/3 basis. Full possession entitles the new owner to all physical rights to the bull. As in any other information, announcements from the block take precedence over any written information in the catalog.

Delivery & Board

A rebate of $50.00 per bull will be offered to buyers who bring their trailer and truck their bulls home themselves within one week of sale day. We Will deliver bulls free of charge within Western Canada or closest U.S. port of entry. Bulls will be kept at Towaw, free of charge, until April 20, 2015. If bulls are left longer a fee of $2.00 per day will be charged. Bulls are left entirely at the risk of the purchaser and we recommend that insurance be taken.

Volume Discounts

Terms and Conditions TERMS: Unless otherwise previously arranged with Towaw Cattle Co., terms of this sale are cash or cheque, payable in Canadian funds. As soon as an animal is sold it becomes the responsibility of the purchaser. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Errors in the catalogue will be corrected by announcements from the stand at sale time, and such corrections will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. DISPUTES: In case of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters will be final.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY: A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer by the seller for each REGISTERED animal after settlement has been made. DELIVERY: We will arrange delivery of the bulls to central points in western Canada and closest U.S. Port of Entry, free of charge. ACCIDENTS: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of the buyer, the owners assume no responsibility in this matter, and disclaim any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of accident or loss of property, on or about the premises.

Auction Format This year we will be working with Mark Shologan and broadcasting our sale over the Internet on DLMS.ca. The bulls will be videotaped prior to the sale and on sale day we will have large TV screens set up with the bulls video running while they sell. Two weeks before the sale, videos of every bull will be available at our website www.towawcattle.com or at www.dlms.ca.

EPDs: Expected Progeny Differences

CE: Calving Ease, U =Unassisted BW: Actual weight at birth WW: Weaning weight in lbs. Adjusted to 205 days. WI: Weaning Index - Weaning weight as a % of average WW of contemporaries. YW: Yearling weight in lbs. - calculated as adjusted 205 day weight + (ADG on feed x 165 days) YI: Yearling Index - Weight gain from Weaning to Yearling as a % of average gain of contemperaries. AOD: The actual age of the dam when she calved the bull offered for sale.

EPD’s are a powerful tool that is available for making genetic progress. EPD’s incorporate the performance of the individual, along with the performance of all its relatives. CE: Calving ease - the higher number predicts more calving ease. BW: Birth. A lower EPD predicts lower birthweights. WW: Weaning. High weaning EPD’s predict higher weaning weights. YW: Yearling. Higher yearling EPD’s indicate greater expected yearling weights. MILK: Milk EPD should be used to predict the milking ability of the daughters of the bulls in question. Higher milk EPD’s project more milk.

EPD We purchased Excel from Glen and Darlene 2.5 Glesman in the summer of 2011 to add a little CE more performance to some of our cows. He BW -1.8 is a long bodied, powerful bull that is sound as Adj. WW 48 the day is long and he certainly shows that in Adj. YW 74 his calves. He goes way back to an Expansion Milk 21 son we sold Glen and also has Bieber Design TM 45 way up in his pedigree. EPD Three winters ago we went down to Benchmark 10.0 Angus to look at sons of Basin EXT 45T5, CE impressed with his performance and set of EPDs. BW 1.3 We were so impressed with sons and daughters Adj. WW 77 of this bull, a son Better Beef, won Denver in Adj. YW 122 2012, that we purchased a half interest in him to Milk 21 breed cows at Towaw. He is in the top 1% for TM 60 most all of the growth and carcass traits and in the top 10% for calving ease. We have a large group of his sons in the sale this year, look for big performance and expect good carcass traits in his progeny. EPD Calidad has turned into a very impressive sire for 1.1 adding muscle shape and easy fleshing genetics CE to our herd. He was our pick of the Brigadier BW 0.2 genetics we imported from Argentina. His full Adj. WW 54 brother sold for $10,000 in our 2013 Sale to Adj. YW 68 Grant and Tanya Chittick and has bred well for Milk 12 them as well. He was only with a small group TM 41 of cows his first year as he was only 13 months old when he started breeding. Next year he will have our largest group of bulls in the sale and they look awesome right now. Reese showed a daughter of his last fall and she was the Champion Red Angus Yearling heifer at the strong Olds Fall Classic Gold Show.

This year Towaw will be donating a heifer with the proceeds going towards two very worthy causes.

Thomas has started training to run two 5km charity runs this summer. All proceeds will go towards sponsoring him in his effort to raise money for the Stollery Childrenâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Hospital and the Kids With Cancer Society. We will sell tickets in the Dutch Auction Format, $10 per ticket, just prior to selling the bulls.
