PUBLISHER’S LETTER
INNER CONNECTIONS W
elcome to the year 2019! We are finally here, and we’re full of hope, motivation and energy for this New Year. Whatever you would like to create in 2019, we have some amazing articles and events for you in this January issue and upcoming issues. We aim to help you grow, inspire you and sustain you. We hope to make you more aware of not only what is happening around us but inside us as well. As many of you know, we are more than this body, mind and human experience. We are also souls that have a certain job or mission to do on the Earth. Sometimes people ask me how to know if the position or that person is right for them. My answer is always check with yourself first, how does this make you feel? Does it bring you joy or struggle? If you are still not sure, read Jennifer Longmore’s article, How to Use the Power of the Akashic Records to Create Your Best Year Yet. In her article, she explains how the Akashic Records work and how it could be a tool to gain more clarity about your life and peace of mind about upcoming changes. Also, read Donna Stellhorn’s article, An Outlook of 2019 for Each Sign. It’s an astrological forecast for 2019. Then turn to January’s Cosmic Daily Weather for detailed insights for each day of the month.
KATARZYNA (KASIA) SZUMAL PUBLISHER
Another great article is Alan Cohen’s article Nothing New Under the Year. Alan reflects on our New Year’s resolutions’ and the changes that we would like to make in the upcoming year. He says that if we want to improve any area of our life, we need to first shift our consciousness. Once we shift our perception, then change happens— not the other way around. “The more I explore what appears to be new and different, the more I realize that, while the world goes through constant change, truth is impeccably reliable. What works always works and what doesn’t work never works. All else is details. It is not the parade of events that makes evolution but the upgrade of consciousness.” Finally, I would like to invite you to some community events that are happening in January 2019. On Jan. 12, there will be the Holistic Health Spiritual Expo in Crystal Lake, and on Jan. 26, there will be the Hope, Healing and Health & Wholeness Pop-up in Chicago. The Conscious Community Magazine table will be up at both those events. Stop by and say hello! Make sure to check out other inspiring January events in our Pulse Calendar and Community Happenings! Get moving in 2019 and find your flow. Once you are in the flow, you’ll be amazed at how everything really is interconnected! The Best,
Kasia Szumal

[COMMUNITY Q&A]
ASK ALECIA by Alecia Rice
Q: I’m a teenager whose mom thinks it’s rude for me not to want to hug family at gatherings. It makes me uncomfortable to hug certain people, and I think I should be able to choose for myself. What do you think? – Rude Teen A: Dear Rude Teen, We should get to choose whom we’re comfortable hugging at any age, yet I sense where your mother is coming from. Unfortunately, I feel her perspective is driven more by what other people might think than it is about you. You might be able to influence change by having a good conversation around my response for her to consider for balance and understanding. Hugging is a great way to share caring, joy, appreciation and affection. It has a grounding quality to it which can help us feel more present. It’s a beautiful way to share bonds and say something without words. At the same time, I have become conscious of the fact that there are many people who don’t like to hug. It makes some uncomfortable for many reasons. Therefore, I ask for permission to hug ahead of time. I also assure them that I won’t take it personally if they say, “No.” This makes it easier for them to decline more gracefully. Think back to when you were a child. Weren’t there people you didn’t want to hug, because that wrinkly woman with big red lips scared you, or because your stubble-faced uncle smelled funny? Consider this for perspective: children
are sensitive and pick up vibes that we often ignore and they sometimes sense things that we don’t. There has been many a close family member or friend who has secretly acted out inappropriately with children, which can create the need in children for avoidance and personal space. Honor the feelings of children by giving them agency to make choices, such as whom they hug when they’re old enough to choose, especially females. Doing so empowers their sense of personal authority so they learn to trust their feelings and intuition to act on what’s comfortable and what’s not. Verbalize this teaching for clarity. This reinforces the message that young people can make independent decisions, think for themselves and others should respect that as they grow into adulthood. We should teach our children to reach out politely with a smile to shake hands instead of hug, if that makes them more comfortable. If practicing this causes concerns about others thinking that our children have no manners, we can explain that we’re empowering our children to make decisions for themselves even when others may not agree with those choices. This clarifies the situation and may even influence others to consider another perspective with children they encounter. This is how change happens...one person at a time. As conscious adults, we’re finding ways to break out of old molds of expectation and obligation. It’s very important for us
to honor intuition and our sense of self, which begins with practicing principles of empowerment with children when they are very young. Q: During the holidays, I realize that I’m miserable about decisions I have made to try and avoid feelings of guilt. I want to break this pattern. Can you help? — Guilty Choices A: Dear Guilty Choices, Guilt is an attachment to judgment that results from the fear of causing harm or actually doing so. It’s a wasted emotion unless you’re actually feeling remorse for harm you’ve done and are asking for forgiveness. Our goal is to become conscious of the judgments we assign which are often more about what others “might” think, instead of being in alignment with what we actually think and feel. These judgments manifest as voices in our heads questioning our motives when we’re trying to be “good enough.” We don’t want to be wrong or bad, so we often try to save ourselves some hassles which can cause us to make poor choices to try to please others. Awareness around this dynamic helps us to break old patterns and move us more towards authenticity. The key is to pause with presence so that we may identify what we’re actually thinking. This requires a practice of paying closer attention to the unrealized voices of others because choices made from these places aren’t actually ours but belong to another. Listening to them breeds codependence as we live a life to please others instead of having the courage to live our own. This pattern causes us to live inauthentic lives that feel hollow and unfulfilling. Time to listen to our soul, captain our own ship and turn that wheel towards happiness. Alecia Rice integrates higher concepts with wisdom to bring forth balance, perspective and clarity. She’s a personal advisor, speaker and gatherer of women. For perspective on life issues, you’re invited to text questions and comments to 681-321-1109. Discussions continue at Ask Alecia on Facebook. CONSCIOUSCOMMUNITYMAGAZINE.COM

GO WITH THE FLOW
Interview with Monk Yun Rou by Janae Jean and Spencer Schluter
Taoist Monk Yun Rou (formerly Arthur Rosenfeld) was ordained a Taoist monk at the Chun Yang (Pure Yang) Taoist Temple in Guangzhou, China. His writings and teachings promote Taoist philosophy and focus on environmental conservation as well as political and social justice. He hosts the Forbidden Rice Podcast. Additionally, he produced a documentary series about the science behind acupuncture, tai chi and meditation as well as the PBS show, Longevity Tai Chi. We spoke with him about his latest book, Mad Monk Manifesto: A Prescription for Evolution, Revolution and Global Awakening; Taoist ideas, martial arts, movement as a teacher, 12

healthful living and more. This is an excerpt from our enlightening interview. To listen to the entire conversation, subscribe to the Conscious Community Podcast on your favorite podcatcher app. Visit www.MonkYunRou.com. Janae: What is Taoism? Monk Yun Rou: American people are actually more familiar with Taoism than they know they are. They know it as the “philosophy of the Jedi masters. If you are familiar with Star Wars, you know that there is a band of rebels. They are nature-loving people in robes who live in the forest. The battle portrayed in the Star Wars franchise is very much like the battle that gave rise to Taoism in China. George Lucas presumably drew that conflict from the relationship between two major philosophies of Early China, Confucianism and Taoism.
Confucianism believes in very fixed relationships, familial piety, a great number of rituals and prescriptions for how we should live—rules that must be followed. Taoism says, “No, let’s be bacchanalian revelers in the forest and love nature. Let’s go party for six days in the woods. Then let’s step into a cave and meditate for a week or a month. Then we’ll come out and have some more wine.” Very different ideas! The Taoist ideas are also familiar to Western people in the California surf culture. Surf culture came from Hawaii and was popularized in the ‘60s and ‘70s. When people talk about “Going with the flow; being in the groove (or the tube;) Tubular dude.” All that stuff is from Taoist thinking. Spencer: I have a martial arts background. What I think is really interesting is how the physical movements teach hard to grasp, vague and abstract concepts. MYR: Martial arts being the physical embodiment of philosophical ideas is probably the most important takeaway here. To understand philosophical ideas, you have to integrate them into your life. You have to try them like a recipe. You have to cook it; see how it tastes; see how you feel after eating it and whether it sustains you with good health and longevity. If you do all those things you will have a better understanding of that recipe then somebody who read it in a book. It’s just not the same. There are a number of Taoist arts, which range from divinatory practices to ritual arts that are mostly about devotion to one deity or another in the religious Taoist pantheon. Philosophical Taoists, like me, don’t necessarily have any supernatural belief. So, we don’t pray to anyone, although we cultivate an attitude of gratitude for the sages that went before and taught us these things and left us these lessons. The most famous and well-known of the Taoist arts is battlefield martial art we call “tai chi.” I have tai chi students who say, “This is not a martial art. I came for peace and love—and to meditate. I heard it was meditation in motion.” I say, “It’s medication in motion.” All of those things are actually true about tai chi and how it is used in our culture now. But, the truth is it’s very clearly a martial art. Tai chi arose in the 1600s as a way of fighting, primarily on horseback, but also on foot—but always in the pitch and fever of battle. The very greatest practitioners of tai chi are absolutely the pinnacle of the Chinese martial arts pantheon. They are formidable fighters. But, the majority of people who “play” tai chi in the world are doing it for the health aspects or to better understand philosophical principles in a physical practice. SS: One aspect of Taoism is the I-Ching. I understand that Bagua is a martial art based on the I-Ching with movements built around the I-Ching hexagrams. MYR: Let’s talk about the I-Ching for a second; there is some confusion about what it really is. Maybe 3,000 years ago,
a duke and his son were involved in some battles and they lost. The father was incarcerated. During that time, the father spent time making a list of all the things he had noticed nature could and did do. A river could flow and then turn on itself; the Earth could shake; seasons change—and on and on and on. He made a catalog of all the different things that the natural world did, and he used certain symbols as a shorthand for the descriptions. It was an exhaustive, brilliant and absolutely stunningly beautiful list. It lent coherence and clarity to the natural world in a way that nobody anywhere on planet Earth had ever done. It was a work of great genius and beauty. The Tao Te Ching, which came about 500 years later, is a commentary on this list, but the commentary is applied to human beings. It takes a large body of information and narrows it greatly to apply it specifically to people. If you make a catalog of all the things that can happen in nature, you have essentially a lusciously specific deck of cards. Some people would use these characters [the hexagrams] in a divinatory ritual. They would take this purely philosophical work and try to make it practical and use it for fortune-telling. Originally, it was a catalog of nature. The I-Ching was a work of philosophy—not a work of fortune-telling. JJ: How can we make a better future for our world using these Taoist principles? MYR: Think of it this way. If you drop a stone into a pond and you watch the ripples spread from that impact and watch those ripples go all the way to the edge of the pond, this is what Mad Monk Manifesto is about. Start with that central point, that change you make in yourself, and watch the effect as it ripples outward. For example, if one person in your family decides to become vegan and everyone gets together once each year for Thanksgiving, when everyone gets together next year that person will look fitter, healthier and happier than everybody else. At first, everybody else rolls their eyes. Now they’re looking and going, “Boy, I’d like to have her figure. Or, I’d like to have his energy. I wonder if there’s something for me there. I’d like to get off these medications or lose a few pounds.” So, they try a little bit of that for themselves—like starting by only eating chicken—a baby step. The point is we make changes on an individual basis. When enough of us do that, we can change the world! They are there when we need them and answer when we call (and at times, even when we don’t!) I was feeling pangs of guilt at the opening of Lisa Love’s workshop on Invoking the Archangels this past Saturday, December 8, at Equilibrium Energy and Education. To begin, she asked each of us where we were on our spiritual journeys in relation to the angels. I cowered as I confessed that I’ve 14

spent the last several years focusing on spiritual masters more than my angel team. Of course, Lisa eased my embarrassment with a joke and encouraged us all to be comfortable with ourselves wherever we were on our spiritual journeys. Lisa’s passion for her work with the archangels is clear and her journey to discovering them was fascinating! She grew up practicing Catholicism and was always drawn to archangel artwork. While she had an affinity for angels, she didn’t actually start consciously working with them until 2004. At that time, she had an experience while receiving a Reiki treatment. While in total darkness, as she started to fall asleep, she saw the most beautiful blue ray appear. She didn’t know what to make of it, and then heard, “I am Michael.” She then began to study
Reiki, and eventually, realized that the voice she heard was that of Archangel Michael. Both Michael and Metatron are the archangels with whom Lisa has the deepest connections. Lisa shared a great deal of interesting information about the angelic realm and took us through several profound processes. She described how angelic beings are generalists. They are not a specific color or gender. We may experience them as a certain gender, for example, because that may have been what we needed at that time. She encouraged us to be open and honor our own connections and experiences and cautioned us against getting stuck on how others “teach” the angelic realm. She further explained that as ascended beings, they are a form of energy. There are four crystals that most potently hold that energy: Selenite, Celestite, Angelite and Seraphinite. She explained that just as we are ascending (as we assist Gaia to ascend) from the third dimension to the fifth dimension, the angelic realm is also ascending. Thus, they are changing and growing along with us. She took us through three insightful and energizing meditations, in which we connected with the nine archangels. We focused on the nine corresponding chakras, and as we did, she sprayed us with the most delightful scents. In the past, I’ve often had trouble smelling things, so I felt particularly grateful that I was able to fully experience each wonderful scent. Once we welcomed the angels who were present in our psyches, we opened ourselves to receiving messages.
Lisa Love and the Invoking the Angels Workshop attendees.
To be honest, I’m a little timid about sharing the messages I received, but I believe that because I attended the event with the intention to write this article, they were also meant for you. The first was regarding the issues I have been having with aging. I have been struggling with hot flashes for a couple of years. At times, I have feared them (having heard rumors of how the heat can ultimately manifest adverse effects in the body over time). Listen up, wise and wondrous crones, “Fear not aging. While you are aging, you are not growing old. In fact, with the physical, spiritual and emotional healing you have been doing, you are freer and more youthful than you have ever been before. Enjoy. The joy within you is expanding and eternal.”
Then as I was clearing my chakras, I noted that there was very little residue within them. In the past, I have always seen my chakras as being muddy and dark, and this time I noted that they were quite clean and vibrant. I was shocked and delighted as the message I received around that realization was, “You are pure spirit and you are starting to remember that. No need to clear darkness from your chakras. That darkness only lurked in your perception—it was never real.”
I received another message when I focused on my heart chakra. To backtrack a moment, a couple of months ago I attended a workshop at the Flowering Heart Center and the guru, Atma Nambi, gave me the name, Nanda. In Sanskrit, Nanda means “joy.” In Lisa’s angel meditation, the message I received was that I am experiencing great joy and that there is capacity for ever greater joy in my life. If, like me, you are single, you may have also had concerns around giving up your independence, or you may have feared you might repeat the same relationship mistakes again with another partner. You may have found yourself content on your own, convinced that a new love would only complicate your life. The message that I was given was, “You will experience that greater joy by allowing more love into your life. Fear not—you are ready and love will not bring heaviness. It will bring more joy. Just wait!” “Do not fear shining your light. Do not fear arrogance. There is no ego in celebrating your divinity and your connection to joy. Trust in the purity of your commitment and connection.” This was the final message I received as we invited another archangel into our crown chakra. It was in response to my concerns, as I grapple with all of the wonderful, synchronistic miracles that have happened in my life this past year. Lisa reminded us that during this past year, we were shown duality—in both ourselves and in others (our ego-self versus higher-self.) Boundary issues have also been huge and will be again next year. During this upcoming year of 2019, we should focus on self-mastery. She encouraged us to shine brightly wherever we are, and ended the workshop with the compelling message, “You deserve to experience the best life has to offer. You need to step into your own power and light, not only for yourselves but for the universe as well. Allow yourself to shine brightly, more so than ever before.” Theresa Puskar is an author, performer, speaker, minister and motivational audiobook producer. HOW TO USE THE POWER OF THE AKASHIC RECORDS TO CREATE YOUR BEST YEAR YET by Jennifer Longmore
Each year, we arrive at this place—the transition between one chapter and the next; the void of possibility and reflection; the space that is created for us to tune in to what we want to create, what we want to create more of, and what we want to release, all in the name of creating a fulfilling, aligned and abundantly purposeful life. We have great intentions of planning out our epic year, and then…the “monkey mind” creeps in. That pesky voice that tells us all of the reasons why. • We’re running out of time so why bother creating our future • We don’t have enough resources (e.g. time, money, energy) 16
| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE JANUARY 2019
• We’re not qualified enough to create it • We’re probably not reliable enough to make it happen • We already have too many responsibilities • We’re not lucky, or magnetic, or dynamic The list that the “monkey mind” recites to us while we’re awake (and likely while we’re asleep) is endless. Intellectually, we know that it makes no sense to give its voice any meaning, and yet it somehow finds its way inside our mind anyway. As
a result, we suffer from a prolonged state of lack of clarity, and it is really challenging to create what we desire when we feel disconnected from our inner clarity. But, there is an answer! Working in the Akashic Records is such a powerful, profound, and efficient way to gain clarity on a variety of different areas that directly impact our year ahead, including: • Clarity of purpose • Understanding of what we’re here to contribute • Insight into what we’re here to master
• Healing of any physical, emotional, mental or spiritual limitations that block us from creating what we desire and what is aligned for our highest path • Clarity of direction • And so much more! The Akashic Records are simply an energetic space or roadmap of divine love and universal truth in support of your soul’s purpose. They hold the truth of who you really are, why you came here, what you are here to master, what you are here to share, and how to align your (un)conscious mind with the truth and purpose of your highest self. And they hold this information from the past, present and future so they contain any answers we need, especially when we’re craving higher guidance on living our best life! Imagine, for a moment, what it would feel like to have instant access to an energy field (the Akasha) that will provide you divine guidance on anything you wish. All of the energy spent overthinking, procrastinating, overdoing, and more can be redirected into simply living in alignment with the guidance that is in the highest alignment with your soul. It only takes a few moments to connect with your own Akashic Records to create an instant state of clarity -- in this space we are connecting with the truth of what is.
To work in your Akashic Record: a) Begin by setting the intention for how you wish to feel and what you would like answered b) Be sure to enter from a space of neutrality (vs. anger, worry, or overattachment to the answers) c) Create a sacred space and bring a journal to jot down any insights
Each person is different and there is no right or wrong. When you allow yourself to trust, rather than question, it will allow this relationship to blossom. f) Practice daily to become familiar with how it feels to be in your own Records, and feel a greater sense of clarity and trust each time. When you are in your Akashic Records, especially when it comes to forecasting your year ahead, you can ask specific questions, such as: • What is in my best interest to focus on this year? • How can I create greater health? • How can I attract my divine life partner? • How can I create a more loving relationship with xxx (e.g. my partner, my child, my parent, my boss, etc)? • How can I attract more wealth and abundance? • What do I need to release in order to invite this in?
continually experience the “and better” in every desire we send into the ether. With the Akashic Records, the possibilities to create your most memorable year are truly endless! What are you choosing to create this year and what’s the best that can happen when you do?! Jennifer Longmore is the founder of the world’s largest Akashic Record Training School and has taught more than 100,000 students in 100+ countries how to access this ancient tool for clarity, healing and manifestation. She has successfully conducted more than 30,000 Soul Purpose Sessions for people from all walks of life, including the who’s who of the entertainment industry, c-suite executives, influential leaders, politicians and more! Through her life’s work, she has pulled together all of the wisdom gleaned from the Akashic Records in her life-changing book, Divine Guidance from the Akashic Records. For more information, visit www.souljourneys.ca.
• What habits do I need to cultivate in order to create more of xxx? • Where is it best to focus my energy this year? • What skills am I being called to heighten? • How can I cultivate an even better relationship with my intuition? There are endless possibilities of what you can ask. The greatest gift is the clarity of love and truth that emerges from these types of questions – that then allows us to plan out our next chapter from a place of alignment rather than ego. It takes out the guesswork, and makes it feel more fun and flowing!
d) Call forward your Akashic Record Keepers, by simply stating or intending, “I would like to access my Akashic Records for my highest good and healing today. Please open them for me now!”
When we feel an embodied sense of clarity and purpose (along with magnetism), we naturally feel more comfortable putting ourselves out in the world and being open to the tangible possibilities that want to come our way.
e) Allow the information to come without trying to force it. You may see, hear, sense or ‘know’ the information.
Moreover, we raise our vibration exponentially, thus instantly enhancing our magnetism, and allowing us to CONSCIOUSCOMMUNITYMAGAZINE.COM

[FROM THE HEART]
NOTHING NEW UNDER THE YEAR by Alan Cohen
18
As we enter the New Year, we all hope this year will be better than the last one, and new and wonderful things will come to us. We seek to improve our worldly situations and become better people. But, what if the most wonderful thing that could happen would be to realize that we live in a universe absolutely and eternally dedicated to our well-being?
years ago when Bach composed the piece. Even while Bach’s world was radically different from ours, the issues he dealt with were the same. He, too, was plagued by the insistence of the deluded self, and he, too, recognized the empowerment of a spirit-guided life. In that awakening the apparent chasm of time dissolves and we are joined.
While listening to a classical music radio station, I heard the show’s host announce a cantata by J.S. Bach entitled, “The Spirit Helps Our Weakness.” I was struck by the title, as appropriate today as it was 300
King Solomon said, “There is nothing new under the sun.” The more I explore what appears to be new and different, the more I realize that, while the world goes through constant change, truth is impeccably reliable. What works always
| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE JANUARY 2019
works and what doesn’t work never works. All else is details. It is not the parade of events that makes evolution, but the upgrade of consciousness. If there is any evolution, it is the awakening to the presence and power of a kind reality that far transcends worldly events. Here we come to the juiciest of paradoxes: To become new, we must recognize that we never change. Healing comes in claiming our inherent eternality. The personality seeks to gain newness by manipulating people, things, and events. The soul needs no newness because it is eternally whole. The part
of you that seeks change is not the part that will be fulfilled. What needs to change is to gain the awareness that you don’t need to change. I told you this paradox is juicy! A Course in Miracles tells us, “Seek not to change the world, but seek instead to change your mind about the world.” If you attempt to change your circumstances without changing your mind, nothing will change. Change your mind, and everything around you will change. The world is not a cause. It is an effect. Edgar Cayce said, “Spirit is the Life, Mind is the Builder, and the Physical is the Result.” Time is a blank screen upon which we project our consciousness and play out our intentions. Any demarcations we make in time come only from our beliefs about it and what we wish to use it for. Most people in Western culture made a big deal about the advent of the year 2000. Meanwhile, that same year was the year 5760 on the Hebrew calendar, 4697 in China, and 1420 in the Islamic religion. What year was it really? The year lives in our minds more than we live in the year. Buckminster Fuller said, “Human beings are the only creatures on the planet who tell time and think they have to earn a living.” Whatever we think time is, is a story we made up. Nothing happens because of time. Everything happens because of the thoughts we apply to it. The only purpose of time is to learn to use it wisely. If we are going to make something of the new year, let’s use it to discover ourselves rather than find new and more complicated ways to forget ourselves. Rather than moving more pieces around the chessboard of your activities, rise above the board so you can see it from a higher perspective. Use the year to make up a new story rather than continuing old stories that lead nowhere. A mythology expert identified 11 plot categories into which all stories fit. That’s it. So it is with life. We just keep repeating the same stories over and over again, with minor variations that make them seem different, while they are not.
There are two kinds of evolution: horizontal and vertical. Horizontal evolution just keeps playing out the ego’s beliefs and reinforcing its fearful world in more complex forms. Cavemen stockpiled rocks to throw at invaders. We stockpile nuclear weapons—just more and bigger expressions of the same mentality. Just because technology advances does not mean we are progressing. Seven billion people thumbing smartphones does not necessarily indicate an advanced society. What people say on their smartphones demonstrates evolution or its absence.
power over time by recognizing you live beyond it. Pray not for new things to happen but for a new consciousness. St. Paul said, “…be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
Vertical evolution is measured by the level of consciousness with which we use our tools and toys. The only real evolution is self-knowledge, awakening to the you that never needed to evolve because you were created perfect by God. The outer world is a set of props laid out according to the mind we are using. If you are going to make the new year new, recognize that time has no power over your life, but you have

I wish you the best year of your life because it is the one in which you escape time and claim your eternal self. At this moment, you are new because the real you lives beyond time, and you have no age, history or future. You just are.

WATER-ONLY FASTING IS THIS THE NEW MEDICINE? by Lisa Peten Let’s talk about fasting—water-only fasting! That seemingly crazy idea of getting healthy by not eating; that thing that many people do and live to tell about, despite severe abstinence per the larger population. Watch an hour of TV and you will be shocked to witness the number of instances when food appears. This is largely a reflection of our society and its consumption of food, including diet fads and communal social gatherings…just to eat! Perhaps fear, disinterest and disbelief are some reasons the mere thought of going days without food is a very unconventional concept for the majority in our society. Think about this: Can you name a holiday and not immediately think of the food associated with it? Food governs our lifestyles in a very concentrated way, in sickness, and in health. Ironically, if you study four-legged animals, you will learn that they do not eat when sick, as we humans do. Perhaps poor health and the growing population of distress and disease makes it necessary now to move from spectator to participant and engage in a water-only fast. I challenge you, for the next few moments, to chew (only) on this: Fasting may be the new medicine. 24

WHAT IS MEDICINE? According to Dictionary.com, “Medicine is any substance or substances used in treating disease or illness.” Interestingly enough, the word cure is not present. Testimonials and accounts of those who have completed water-only fasts make the claim that fasting was the cure to their disease or illness. Before you can make a snide remark that these fasting “stories” are just that, let me introduce you to a treatment center that stands convicted in the benefits of water-only fasting as a viable means to achieve better health. TrueNorth Health Center is located in California’s wine country and was started in 1984 and takes an integrative medicine approach to help patients achieve optimum health. The center boasts that it is the largest facility in the world that specializes in water-only fasting. Their patients are treated for detoxification, weight loss, dietary and lifestyle changes, high blood pressure, diabetes, autoimmune disorders and a wide range of other health conditions. Trained staff, such as medical doctors,
osteopaths, chiropractors, naturopaths, psychologists, research scientists and other health professionals treat and evaluate patients who wish to gain enhanced health. As with most health treatment centers in the United States that perform with a high caliber of care, it does not come cheap. Health, whether good or bad, never does. Luckily, with research and a lot of belief, it is possible for you to succeed in completing a water-only fast, on your own. Preparing well for the best results is the gigantic first step.
MENTAL PREPARATION Statistics show that 1% of the US population has skydived once, however, even though statistics on water-only fasting are hard to find, I equate these two experiences to be similar. Water-only fasting and sky-diving both require mental preparation. First and foremost, you must convince yourself that you will be successful in a water-only fast (or skydive). Along with this internal preparation is also external preparation. Friends, family and even strangers may help you meet your goal. Do not discount this step, as many have needed to rely on this preparation step at pivotal points during their fast to result in a successful completion. Mental preparation also includes fueling your knowledge via research. This is the next largest component to properly prepare for a self-guided water-only fast. Verbal personal accounts, YouTube videos, books, magazine articles, Instagram, Facebook, blogs, medical journals and the like are all research options. The knowledge you gather during this research will most likely be voluminous. Be prepared to use filters, retaining the information that resonates deep within you, as you will surely find contradictions. Be mindful of the importance of applying the information and guidance that you think is applicable. If you find redundant information, give this higher consideration in adhering to what is being relayed.
PHYSICAL PREPARATION Similarly, best practices recommend eating moderately and nutritiously before skydiving which is also true to begin a water-only fast. Veterans of water-only fasts recommend juice fasting or eating a raw, paleo or gluten-free diet to prepare, while others recommend no change in diet at all; do what you feel will work best for you. Your body may alert you during your mental preparation or within the next preparation step, gathering resources.
GATHERING RESOURCES Fasting while training, undergoing a stressful period, on vacation, working full-time, working full-time with a second parttime job or working full-time while going to school part-time are possible scenarios that you may have to sift through to find the best time to fast. No matter your fasting period, consider the following list to stock items that may become necessary. Water – Choose which type you will drink (e.g. distilled, spring, coconut) and stock up to eliminate having to purchase and
pick-up during times when your energy may be low. Salt – Choose your type (e.g. pink Himalayan salt, black salt, rock salt.) You may need to perform a salt flush during your fast. It is highly recommended that you NEVER use iodine salt. Lemon/Lime – You may wish to add a lemon or lime to flavor the water to combat boredom or for taste. They are also great detoxification aids. Coffee/Herbal Tea – During your research, you may note that this topic is highly contradicted. As a rule of thumb, stock these items, just in case it resonates within you pre-fast, during the fast or post-fast. Enema – This is another hotly debated topic in veteran fasting communities. Again, use at your own discretion. Entertainment – Be sure to have your favorite music, books, movies, games, etc. on hand to assist you—especially during the weekends and especially if going out to eat for socializing has been temporarily suspended. Notebook – From the first day of the fast until completion, regardless of the length of time your fast occurs, you will develop a sensitivity to the changes occurring inside and outside your body. You may encounter books, video diaries and day-by-day blogs during your research, which recorded water-only fasting experiences. It is best if you decide to engage or pass on this early on. It could be distressing if you decide to keep a documented account of your experience days into the fast. If you can’t decide, have the notebook around in case you change your mind. While some use the computer to record (via video recording or typing) the best practice is to use computers sparingly.
BENEFITS Just like skydiving, to engage in a water-only fast is a choice. It is a commitment to move beyond the status quo and engage in the unknown with faith. We do this when we take medicine, only we put the faith in the doctor’s knowledge rather than our own. Whether we take medicine or fast, we expect results; to reap benefits. Taking medicine is commonly equated to being a band-aid while fasting circles claim it to be an overall healer. Water-only fasters who had arthritis, irritable bowel syndrome, autoimmune diseases, diabetes, or tinnitus prior to the fast, reported being rid of these things post-fast. Your belief in these accounts is not important, but your health is. Try it for yourself and see. AN OUTLOOK OF 2019 FOR EACH SIGN by Donna Stellhorn Now that 2018 is done, you have a fresh start this year. 2019 is a “3” year (2+0+1+9=12, 1+2=3). This is a number related to creativity, procreation, and synergy. In a “3” year we succeed through communicating with others, making deeper connections and pulling different energies together to make something greater than the sum of its parts. You can make real headway on your goals this year when you surround yourself with people who are supportive and those you’re willing to support. Move quickly on new ideas, be observant of trends, and when you find something you want to do put effort into bringing it forth into the world. Here are the predictions for each sign for 2019.
Aries: The year begins with a focus on career and changes you may want to make to your job situation. A trip to a new place can bring some insight or inspiration for your future. In the spring, work/life balance is highlighted. Spend time with people you care about. Your money situation improves especially if you own a business. Summer brings some unexpected luck in the area of family and friendships. An acquaintance or distant relative brings you an opportunity. From autumn to the end of the year is a focus on relationships. You may be taking your love relationship to the next level. Those already in a committed partnership may have changes at home such as an adult child moving out or moving back in.
Taurus: The year begins with new positive energy as you break through an old money block. Your spiritual work or daily meditation pays off. Springtime brings increased confidence 26

and creative ideas. You’re brimming with original thoughts and people come to support your new venture. Sleep improves as you exercise more. Summer brings a lucrative financial opportunity, a calculated risk. Get advice from others, but remember to believe in yourself. Money can come from several sources. The fall reveals some helpful information to bring you better health and quality of life. Your job situation improves with some changes at the office. If you want a new job or to transfer to a new team, now is a good time.
Gemini: The year begins with a decision you’ve been waiting to make. This leads to an improved financial outlook for the year. You may not feel certain but you have the skills to pull this off. In the spring, there is more harmony at home and your sleep improves. Money is made from work you do behind the scenes. In the summer you feel more spiritually in tune. Your intuition is gaining strength. You feel connected to your higher self and you find supportive people who believe as you do. In the fall, romance is around you. If you’re looking for love, you’ll notice someone looking back at you. If you’re already in a love relationship, you find the two of you working together towards a common goal.
Cancer: The year begins with you getting some alone time (which you need). This is a period when you can heal and refuel. It’s good to do things you enjoy now. Others will want your attention but let them wait until you are rested. Springtime brings a focus on career. You may have the opportunity for an increase of income or a more prestigious position. The summer
brings some health information, or a practitioner who can help you solve a long-term issue. And several things happen during this time to boost your confidence. In the autumn, some good news at home brings the family closer together. Changes at home bring benefits. This is a good time to move, declutter or renovate the house.
Leo: The year begins with improvements you make to your daily routines, directly affecting your finances in a positive way. Dropping a bad habit makes a dramatic improvement in your future. Finances continue to improve in the spring, as shifts in your career or a side hustle really start to pay off. This is a good time to improve your skills at investing. The summer time highlights partnerships with others including your intimate relationship. For those looking for love, you may find you’re attracted to someone you never considered before. In the autumn, a sibling or close friend reveals a secret, which brings the two of you closer. You’re both helped by this now being out in the open.
Virgo: The year begins with your career highlighted. A creative opportunity lands at your feet, which is related to your job, or could lead to a lucrative side business. Springtime brings a very beneficial time when travel and contact with friends who live far away bring more benefits than you expected. Regular spiritual practice leads to blessings and gains. In the summer, a challenging situation at work clears suddenly and easily. You are inspired to start a new health routine and it brings results. In the autumn, your finances improve greatly because of the hard work you’ve been doing. Money can also come from the sale of a big-ticket item or a check you’ve been waiting for finally reaches your door.
Libra: The year begins with lots of energy focused on the home. You may be signing an agreement to buy property or rent a new place. Travel and education are also highlighted making this a very busy period this year. In the spring, love can be knocking at your door. If you’re already in a love relationship, there is increased intimacy and fun after dark. The summer brings recognition for a creative project. There is a deeper connection with children or beloved pets and there could be an addition to the family. In the fall, you have more luck around your career bringing you positive feedback from managers or customers. Your confidence increases and you have a clear vision of how to move forward.
Scorpio: This year begins by bringing you a financial opportunity (with some paperwork involved). Also, you get unexpected support from a neighbor during this time. In the spring, you have an abundance of positive relationship energy. You will need to choose from the many social opportunities coming in. A new relationship may be taking up lots of your time. The summertime brings an unexpected windfall. There can be a sale regarding real estate or you may be expanding a home business. In autumn, your intuition increases. You feel more spiritually connected and have an awareness of messages coming through. Your prayers are being answered.
Sagittarius: The year begins with a person who owes you, finally paying their debt. Forgiveness and healing can follow. This is a good time to ask for a raise at work. Springtime may bring an addition to the family through the birth of a child or a new pet. Some creative work can receive both recognition and make you some money. In the summer, unexpected news brings a reason to celebrate. If you’re dating, this is a good time to take the relationship to the next level. The fall brings your best financial period. A business or side job can be expanded to bring you long-term financial benefit. If you work a contract job, opportunities with new companies are available to you now.
Capricorn: The year begins with you focusing on work/life balance. You are taking care of yourself and the Universe will reward you for it. Office life improves as management makes some changes. In the spring, you can receive recognition or an award for work you’ve done. An educational or teaching goal is reached. You see synchronicity happening. In the summer, a block you’ve had with financial abundance is suddenly removed. You feel new energy and are ready to take on bigger projects. A change in eating habits proves very beneficial. In the autumn, relationship energy is strong. There may be a marriage in the family or a union to celebrate. If you’re looking for love, you can be favored by a happy chance.
Aquarius: The year begins with increased intuition and a feeling you’re more in touch with your higher self. A deeper connection with children or pets is possible now. In the spring, an issue at home is resolved to your satisfaction. Investments show improvement or a loan you’ve been wanting is available to you. In the summertime, creative, fertile energy is around you. You are feeling more optimistic and confident. You’re receiving more support from others. In the autumn, travel or education is very beneficial. You may feel more connected with your life path during this time. A contract may be offered to you of which you can negotiate for better terms.
Pisces: The year begins with a highlight on friendships. A faraway friend may come for a visit or you might visit them. Home renovations done during this time are successful. Relationship energy is highlighted in the springtime. If you are looking for love, you can find it through helpful friends or relatives. If you’re already in a relationship, communication improves and there’s a deeper understanding of what each of you needs. In the summertime, something occurs in the family, which gives a reason to celebrate. In the fall, an investment brings a profit and shows your ability to create passive income. There is a better relationship with a child and love relationships improve at this time. HOW TO USE THE VIOLET FLAME TO ACCELERATE YOUR ASCENSION by Samantha Wood According to Elizabeth Clare Prophet in her book, Saint Germain: Master Alchemist: Spiritual Teachings from An Ascended Master, The Violet Flame is a spiritual energy that has been gifted to humanity by St. Germain to support our ascension, promote clarity in decision making, banish anxiety and help dissolve acquired karmic debt. An ascended master is a spiritually enlightened being who has had several human lifetimes yet has passed certain tests or initiations which allowed them to “graduate” from the Earth plane. They essentially have removed themselves from the “wheel of karma” by making soul-aligned choices which have resulted in ascending to higher dimensions. We are able to connect with these masters as well as ask for support and guidance as we go along on our own spiritual journey. St. Germain has had many incarnations, including as a High Priest in the times of Atlantis, Christopher Columbus, Joseph of Nazareth, Sir Francis Bacon, the Prophet Samuel and Merlin. Ascension simply means raising your vibration, expanding your consciousness, living from your heart space, and expressing the Light of your Soul’s Truth. Ascension is the dedication to transforming our human lives to reflect the Absolute Divinity within us through conscious decision making. When we are in alignment with our Soul’s Truth we make better choices! However, since we are in the earthly realm of free will, we may still make choices that can limit our spiritual growth, or past life 28
| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE JANUARY 2019
decisions could be affecting our current timeline. Luckily, we can utilize the Violet Flame to help support us on blazing the pathway of our Ascension. The Violet Flame is called the flame of mercy, transmutation and freedom, is located in our energy field and surrounds our physical body. This flame is a majestic purple and can be invoked by intention or saying spiritual prayers known as decrees. It can transmute or transform any low vibrational emotion or thought pattern that is inhibiting your expansion and growth. It can resolve karmic issues and free us from repeating the same mistakes over and over in this or future lifetimes. The flame burns away or dissolves karmic repercussions before they come back to us which lessens their negative effect on our lives. The violet flame can also remove negative emotions or thoughts by upgrading their energetic signature to a higher frequency. It is essentially an auric cleanser and removes any dense energy that is limiting your magnificent potential. The violet flame can ease anxiety, create peace in a chaotic situation and help all beings on earth to live in harmony. This spiritual energy is accessible to every living being and simply needs to be ignited and brought to your awareness. By saying the decrees daily, you will strengthen the powers of the violet flame within your energy field and transmute anything that is limiting your spiritual advancement. Decrees are spiritual prayers or invocations that have been given
to us from the Ascended Masters. There are two simple decrees that you can start saying daily to connect with the violet flame. 1. “I AM the presence of St. Germain. I AM the presence of the Violet Flame.” 2. “I AM a being of Violet Fire. I AM the purity God desires.” It is suggested to repeat the decrees for 15 minutes per day. You can say them as part of your meditation, while driving in the car, as you cook your meals, while using a mala necklace, or while taking a shower. You see, the possibilities are endless as to how you can integrate this powerful practice into your life. By speaking the decrees, you invoke The Violet Flame within your field and expand it outwards. For worldly issues, you can visualize the planet in the center of The Violet Flame and focus on the frequencies of peace and harmony. If there are any personal issues you are experiencing, invoke the flame and ask for it to remove any obstacles you may be facing. This is a powerful spiritual tool that is waiting to assist you on your journey here! BEYOND WORDS
DANCE/MOVEMENT THERAPY by Erica Hornthal, MA, LCPC, BC-DMT
Many of us know that dancing has psychological as well as social, cognitive, emotional and physical benefits. But, did you know that our body has its own language? That each organ, vessel, tissue and muscle have a voice and that we can use the mind-body connection to become fluent in the language of the body? The language of the body is different from body language, which we know makes up about 80% of what we express. Body language is a nonverbal communication where feelings and emotions are expressed physically. This might take the form of an eye-roll to express disdain, a dropped jaw to express amazement, or raised shoulders to communicate confusion or misunderstanding; while the language of the body expresses the feelings and emotions that may be hidden, trapped or even silenced throughout the body. Where does our voice go when we have been forced to silence it? What happens to our desires and needs when they are shown not to matter? Do they disappear? No, they become part of our body’s internal communication. Dance/movement therapy is the psychotherapeutic use of movement to integrate mind, body and spirit of an individual. Movement is used as the means of assessment and intervention, along with verbal processing, to support and validate the individual’s mental and physical well-being. The field of dance/ movement therapy has been around in the United States since the late 1940s and is practiced all over the world. Dance therapists are Master’s level clinicians with a degree in dance/movement therapy. Some are licensed privately as counselors, social workers, psychologists or creative arts therapists. Dance/ movement therapists support an individual’s path to expressing emotions, finding a voice and being in one’s own body; going beyond words to confront life circumstances, diagnoses and mental health issues. A client might have a physical ailment that is not described by a physical injury or issue. Instead, it seems to be a manifestation of psychological distress—a psychosomatic symptom. One basic example that most of us have experienced is a tension headache. Here is a physical symptom of an emotional trigger. Now, what about an individual who has been sexually abused? Oftentimes, there is an inability to verbally process what has occurred. Either the words are not accessible or the
person cannot confront what has happened. Take a moment to sit with the fact that the body is talking. The body has so much to say if we only give it the opportunity. In dance/movement therapy, we utilize the mind-body connection to allow the body to do the talking. The ability to be mindful and aware of what our body is saying is not an easy task and can even invoke fear or anxiety. It’s important to know that when words are not accessible or enough to communicate the severity of a situation, that the body can speak for itself. We are all using our bodies to communicate, relate and be in this world on a daily basis. Using the body to express what is already there can rejuvenate, uplift and open an individual to his/her full potential. Know that whatever you may be going through, your body is carrying it. The ability to connect the body and mind allows for a more holistic approach to mental health, greater compassion, empathy and even safety. If movement is your release—your path to healing—then embrace all the movement your body does every day. Finding a way to connect to your body’s internal language can free your mind to express what has always been there and create space for what is to come. Erica Hornthal, MA, LCPC, BC-DMT, is the founder and CEO of Chicago Dance Therapy, which is dedicated to providing dance/movement therapy and clinical counseling to individuals, couples, families and groups. Erica received her MA in Dance/ Movement Therapy and Counseling from Columbia College Chicago. She is passionate about helping individuals of all ages increase their quality of life by emphasizing the mind-body connection to enable growth and healing. CONSCIOUSCOMMUNITYMAGAZINE.COM

COSMIC DAILY WEATHER January 2019 by Bernadette Evans
Overview
Welcome to 2019 everyone! I know it’s a cliché, but the years really do seem to fly by. I hope this year will bring you happiness, friendships, laughter, love and, of course, some growth and abundance sprinkled in as well. 2019 charges out of the gate full speed ahead with a Solar eclipse at 15 degrees of Capricorn (for those of you who know the exact degrees in your charts) and two weeks later, a Lunar eclipse at 0 degrees Leo. A Solar eclipse is a New Moon but one that is amplified ... a lot. As you know, a New Moon is a time of new beginnings, with a Solar eclipse it may be a new beginning we never saw coming—something completely out of the blue. A Full Moon is a time of releasing, clearing out or endings, also amplified, because of the lunar eclipse. Something we may think of as terrible at the time, for example, losing a job, is making space for a better job or opportunity to arrive. At the time, we are never happy with the endings, yet looking back we can usually see that they happened in our best interests. We don’t always feel the effects of the eclipse on the exact day. We may notice something anywhere from a few days up to a month before or after the eclipse. Of course, some will feel the effects more than others, it will depend on what’s happening in your own chart. Eclipses occur in a pair of signs for approximately 18 to 24 months; they’ll also be in the same sign and degree that they were in 19 years ago. What was happening for you 19 years ago? I remember everyone worrying about the new millennium and what would happen with the computers; would everything shut down? Businesses and power plants were concerned the computers wouldn’t be able to roll over to the year 2000! There was a lot of fear around it. Sounds hard to believe now, doesn’t it? Is there a pervasive fear now? You’ll get different answers from everyone. The Moon takes about 28 days to complete her orbit through the 12 signs, approximately two and a half days in each sign. When we say the Moon is Void-of-Course (VoC), it means the Moon makes no more major aspects to other planets until it leaves the sign it’s in. At these times, it can be difficult to get focused and accomplish tasks; you may want to relax, meditate or do something where your focus is directed inward. Don’t try to get a big project off the ground when the Moon is void. All times are listed in Central Standard Time.

| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE JANUARY 2019
Tuesday, January 1 Happy New Year! With the Moon being in Scorpio, you may feel moody and introspective, reflecting on what happened in the past year; take some time out for yourself away from everyone if that’s what you need. Use this time to examine the past and then let it go. It’s a brand new year, time for a fresh start! Moon in Scorpio and goes VoC at 4:26 p.m. and is void for the rest of the evening.
Wednesday, January 2 With the Sun-Saturn conjunction, we want to get organized, make plans and follow through. It’s the perfect time to organize your thoughts and get any details you need to ironed out. Perhaps you should start those New Year’s resolutions and plan ways to follow through. Moon enters Sagittarius at 2:58 am.
Thursday, January 3 Playful, generous, independent and impulsive are some of the traits often associated with a Sagittarius moon, which sounds just like a puppy. A puppy can also wreak havoc on the household by chewing everything in sight and keeping you awake
all night; be careful you don’t destroy everything or everyone around you in your pursuit of fun.
Friday, January 4 We start our morning feeling inspired, creative and thinking outside the box when the Moon, Mercury and Uranus all play together. By the afternoon, we may be molding those innovative ideas into something we can touch as the Moon moves into Capricorn. When Mercury enters Capricorn at 9:40 p.m., our thoughts and communication style may be more practical, organized, and methodical with an eye towards success. Moon VoC at 11:41 a.m. until 12:55 p.m. when it enters Capricorn.
Saturday, January 5 What do you want to begin today? We have our New Moon and a Solar eclipse in Capricorn, not to mention, Mercury, Saturn and Pluto are also in Capricorn. The blueprint for today is to build something lasting, a strong foundation that will support you when moving forward. New Moon Solar Eclipse is at 7:28 p.m.
Sunday, January 6 You may run into power struggles with others today when the Moon conjuncts Pluto; either they are trying to control the situation and you, or it could be the other way around. Try to understand the underlying emotions and the reasons why someone may feel the need to use manipulation to get what they want; or why you may feel the need to have the upper hand. Uranus goes direct at 2:27 p.m.
Monday, January 7 Moon-Mars sextile gives us the opportunity to use our intuition and let our ideas take flight. We feel confident and move full-steam ahead feeling assured of success. Ideas and plans for different scenarios are coming to us quickly, write them down so you don’t forget them. Moon VoC at 12:20 a.m. until 12:46 a.m. when it enters Aquarius; Venus enters Sagittarius at 5:18 a.m.
Tuesday, January 8 You may want to think carefully before you speak when Mercury squares Mars. Don’t jump to any conclusions. Once the words are spoken you can’t take them back, best to be silent until you know what you
need to say. You don’t want to cause any unnecessary hurt feelings.
you know if you can proceed or not. Slow and steady wins the race.
Wednesday, January 9
Monday, January 14
Independence and a restless energy coupled with some unexpected events may show up earlier in the day with the MoonUranus sextile. By the afternoon when the Moon is squaring Venus, we may be feeling sensitive when it comes to our relationships. Be kind to yourself and others. Moon VoC at 10:53 a.m. until 1:44 p.m. when it enters Pisces.
We feel the need for stability and grounding with the Moon in Taurus. Creating a firm foundation can help us feel safe and secure. What can you do to ground and center yourself? Notice where it is in your body and how it feels, and breathe. Moon VoC at 9:56 a.m. until 12:31 p.m. when it enters Taurus.
Thursday, January 10 Try and quiet your mind for a bit today, even if it’s just for five or ten minutes. With the Moon in Pisces sextile Mercury, it’s a great time to listen to what the Universe and your soul have to say. Then with the Moon-Saturn Sextile, you can build something with the answers you gleaned. It really is a beautiful day; enjoy the energy!
Friday, January 11 Depending on what time you go to work, you can use the Sun-Pluto conjunction to your advantage. It’s early in the day before the Moon is void, and you can use this powerhouse to accomplish quite a lot. The Moon is VoC in Pisces from 8:25 a.m. on. This makes for a good time to tap into your creative juices; what have you been wishing for and dreaming of? Use this time to drift and dream and see what your heart says, write it down, and then act on it (if you still feel called to) when the Moon moves into Aries tomorrow.
Saturday, January 12 How do you want to move forward? The Moon-Venus trine is asking you to examine what it is you value and how your relationships are going? With the Moon-Venus trine, we desire relationships but may also want our freedom. There’s a playful action-oriented feel while also wanting to come and go as we please. Moon enters Aries at 2:18 a.m.
Sunday, January 13 Your thinking and movements are more serious, calculated and methodical when Mercury-Saturn conjunct. Communication can be clear and detailed but may also be overly cautious for fear of taking the wrong step. Don’t let fear keep you from moving forward; if you’ve done your homework,
Tuesday, January 15 Working with the Moon-Saturn trine gives you the opportunity to look at situations realistically and then choose the course of action you wish to take. When you’ve taken the time to draft a plan, it can bring about concrete results down the road. Studious planning is the tree which will yield the fruit of prosperity.
Wednesday, January 16 Use the earthy Taurus energy early in the day to tap into your strength and wisdom, so that you may gain some solid footing towards your goals. Then this evening when the Moon moves into Gemini, you might want to get together with a friend to bounce some ideas off of them and get their input. Moon VoC at 12:34 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. when it enters Gemini.
Thursday, January 17 With the Moon-Venus opposition, you may feel like someone is pulling away from you and you feel alone or heartbroken. Step back and give yourself some time alone to heal. With the Moon in intellectual Gemini and Venus in playful Sagittarius, you may be trying to rationalize your feelings with someone who needs more independence and freedom.
Friday, January 18 When Venus trines Mars, you feel confident and assertive in your relationships, what you value, and how you make your money. When you feel this good, try to practice compassion, generosity and gratitude. There may also be some more serious discussions when Mercury and Pluto conjunct mid-afternoon. With the SunUranus square this evening you could be feeling antsy and possibly irritated, try not to act too hastily. Moon VoC at 7:32 p.m. until 9:44 p.m. when it enters Cancer. Saturday, January 19 After yesterday’s action, the Moon in Cancer is calling a time-out, how you do that is up to you. Spend some time today nurturing yourself. Take a bubble bath. Be with people who help you feel nurtured or who you’d love to spoil.
Sunday, January 20 It’s that time of the year when we wish Aquarius “Happy Birthday!” Can you feel the energy building? With our Full Moon Eclipse happening later tonight, you may feel like you’re on the precipice of something big. You’re being asked to release old issues and beliefs and to learn from them so you can move forward in a new direction. How are you going to let your unique beauty shine through? Sun enters Aquarius at 3:00 a.m. Moon VoC at 7:50 p.m. until 9:54 p.m. when it enters Leo; Full Moon Lunar Eclipse at 11:16 p.m.
Monday, January 21 You’re probably still feeling the energy of the eclipse and will for a while. Couple that with the Moon in Leo and you may feel you’d like some recognition and appreciation for something you’ve done.

ture or actually sitting in silence. When we quiet the mind, our soul has a chance to speak…so listen. Moon enters the sign of Scorpio at 1:31 a.m.

Monday, January 28
Venus and Jupiter are dancing very closely today. Your heart is full, you’re having fun socializing, feeling generous and the world is your oyster! Who am I to rain on your parade—I love this energy! Just be careful of overindulging, whether it’s too much food, too much wine or overspending, you don’t want to regret it tomorrow. Moon VoC at 7:19 p.m. until 9:22 p.m. when it enters Virgo.
Wednesday, January 23 Inspiration strikes today when Mercury squares Uranus. Your ideas are original and ahead of their time, but you might bump up against resistance from a boss or someone in authority. Watch your tongue and don’t be arrogant, explain your ideas and how they can be of use. Mercury enters Aquarius 11:49 p.m.
Thursday, January 24 There’s a desire to push your dreams, your plans forward. With the Moon void most of the day, think about how you want to proceed but just sit with them and let them percolate before pushing forward. Moon VoC at 7:50 a.m. and most of the day until 10:02 p.m. when it enters Libra.
Friday, January 25 With the Mars-Jupiter trine, you’re feeling confident and self-assured. Life is full of adventures and opportunities and you want to seize the moment. Everything is over in an instant. What are you waiting for?
Saturday, January 26 The Moon sextiles Venus, and when the Libra Moon is in harmony with its ruler, it bodes well for hanging out with friends and family. Take some time to build on your relationships or go to a Meetup group and cultivate new friendships, where ideas are shared and connections are made. Moon VoC at 11:21 p.m.
Sunday, January 27 With the Moon in Scorpio, you may want to spend some time in meditation—however that looks to you. Meditation can be going for a walk in nature, painting a pic-
With the Moon-Neptune trine, you’re feeling sensitive and your intuition is finetuned. Be aware of your surroundings and differentiate between your feelings and others’ feelings. Then the Moon quincunx Mars, which may leave you feeling frustrated and misunderstood. You could get angry and lose your temper. This is all before noon! Moon VoC at 4:39 p.m.
Tuesday, January 29 The Moon in Sagittarius gives us a feeling of being an explorer. We long to travel, visit foreign lands or learn a new language. It’s fire, so we just want some excitement. What adventure are you longing for? You also may want to go have coffee with a friend and discuss a variety of subjects when the Sun conjuncts Mercury. Putting two heads together could provide some thought-provoking conversation. Moon enters Sagittarius at 8:33 a.m.
Wednesday, January 30 The Moon-Neptune square may have you feeling very dizzy and overwhelmed today. You may feel confused about which direction to take. There are just too many choices to pick from. It kind of feels like a kid in a candy store with all the goodies to sample.
Thursday, January 31 The Moon will conjunct Venus and then trine Uranus. You may want to be looking for some freedom—breathing room—in your relationships. The unusual and unconventional hold a certain allure for you. You may be yearning to start a grand adventure. It takes courage and faith to travel uncharted waters. Don’t let the unknown scare you; every adventure starts with a first step! Moon VoC at 4:33 p.m. until 6:47 p.m. when it enters Capricorn.

NEW YEAR’S DETOX The Benefits of Plant-based Kefir by Janae Jean What do the most popular New Year’s Resolutions have in common? Looking at polls on Statista.com from 2016, 2017 and 2018, eating healthier, improving self-care, increasing overall fitness, losing weight and trying something new were favorites every year. I’m confident that those will still be the favorites for 2019. One way we can make all of those goals this January is by changing how we start our days. Breakfast is often called “the most important meal” of the day. In fact, it sets the tone for our entire day. Starting the morning with empty calories sets us up for a low-energy day. Including kefir in our morning meals adds good bacteria and protein into our diets. Smoothies are fun to improvise. Do you like strawberries and kale together, or banana and cacao powder? Try it! One word of warning, when creating smoothies with kefir, it’s important to keep an eye on how much sugar we are including. A mix of vegetables and fruits keep smoothies balanced. Including plant-based proteins like cashew or almond butter make them even more healthful. Kefir comes in many varieties. Most common varieties are made with cow’s milk. If you are committed to a plantbased 2019, look for kefir made from plant-based sources such as coconut, soy or rice. There is even water kefir made from sweetened water or coconut water. All varieties contain probiotics and have antibiotic properties. Kefir fights various digestive problems as well as improves allergic and asthma symptoms.
