Southeastern Equipment Holds Annual Sales Meeting

S

outheastern Equipment Company held its annual sales meeting at its training facility in Cambridge, Ohio, the week of May 8. Two sessions, each lasting two days were held, were attended by the sales representatives from the company’s Ohio, Kentucky, and Michigan branches. The event focused on Case Equipment and featured both classroom time and field training with every sales representative afforded time to operate both Case and competitive machines. According to Southeastern Equipment Company’s Jon Wickline, the entire sales team was enthusiastic about Case Equipment Company’s recent product launches, providing them and their customers a very complete line-up of Case machines. Case Construction Equipment representatives were on hand to discuss several of the new Case machines including the Alpha Series line of skid steers, that features nine models with either radial or vertical-lift. The radial lift machines are engineered for digging, prying and pushing, while the vertical lift models are designed for lift-and-carry applications Case Construction Equipment also expanded its compact excavator line with the introduction of its Case CX55B min-

imum tail swing model. Targeting utility, commercial and residential construction markets, the CX55B offers the transportability of a skid steer. Case Construction Equipment recently launched its C Series full-sized excavator line with three new models, the CX250C, CX300C and CX350C. The excavators offer increased fuel efficiency, productivity, operator comfort and improved serviceability. The new excavators feature Tier IV Interim-certified cooled exhaust gas recirculation (CEGR) technology that combines cleaner burning with enhanced horsepower. New Case 580N, 580 Super N, 580 Super N Wide Track and 590 Super N backhoes with Case-exclusive Power Lift replace the company’s three M Series machines. Additionally, Case Construction Equipment has expanded its new F Series wheel loader product line with two all-new

models, the 1021F and 1121F. The new machines are engineered specifically to meet quarry, aggregate and truck-loading applications. Southeastern Equipment Company has 19 branches throughout Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Michigan and is the authorized dealer for Case Construction Equipment in all of its locations except Indiana. Other manufacturer product lines carried by Southeastern Equipment include Bomag, Champion, Etnyre, Felling, Gradall, Kawasaki, Kobelco, New Holland and Terex Haulers. The sales teams also were given a training session on the Terex articulated dump truck as well as a presentation by Scott Moore of Burlington Installation Corporation, an independent provider of hydraulic kits and boom guards dedicated to serving Case dealers. see MEETING page 4

Cost Climbs With Wider Study of Ohio River Toll Bridges LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) The cost of a study into how drivers will react to tolls in the Ohio River Bridges Project is burgeoning and is now nearly 10 times the amount allocated by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. Invoices obtained by The Courier-Journal of Louisville show state officials have paid Wilbur Smith Associates of Columbia, S.C., $765,218 to date and the total cost is now about $1 million. The newspaper obtained the documentation under the Kentucky Open Records Act. The cost has mushroomed from the initial allocation of $127,214, records show. The company said the study was broadened to include a

Ohio Turnpike Workers Paid More Than ODOT Workers CLEVELAND (AP) Ohio Turnpike employees make about 17 percent more than workers doing similar jobs at the Ohio Department of Transportation. The Plain Dealer newspaper reported May 15 that turnpike employees made, on average, $62,700 in 2010. Transportation department employees made about $53,300. The turnpike number excludes toll collectors, who have no counterparts at ODOT. Ohio Turnpike Commission Chairman Joseph Balog said the salaries are justified because the turnpike offers better service and maintenance than ODOT-maintained roads. But Sherri Warner, a legislative agent for the Ohio Trucking Association, said keeping turnpike worker pay in line with ODOT pay could reduce turnpike expenses and keep tolls lower or delay increases. Gov. John Kasich has proposed leasing or selling the turnpike, saying a lease to a private operator could yield $2.5 billion.

computer model showing greater detail that is expected to counter flaws that have skewed past estimates on toll roads elsewhere. The study is needed for the Louisville and Southern Indiana Bridges Authority to determine toll rates for the new bridges. It will provide traffic and revenue forecasts, which investors typically review before buying bonds to pay for toll road construction to assure enough funding will be produced to pay the bonds off with interest. Although forecasts in other studies haven’t materialized,

Kentucky Transportation Secretary Mike Hancock and Wilbur Smith officials say the study under way is different. For instance, planners are using cameras to contrast local and through traffic, measure the amount of trucks compared to passenger vehicles and determine traffic flow at different times of the day. “There are some large decisions that are going to get made over the next year,” Hancock said. “And we just need the best possible information we can have in terms of what the traffic is most likely to be, so we’re making those decisions from a position of strength.”
