IN BRIEF
Cardboard Boats Ahoy! FUNDINg For more information, please contact info@ saltashregatta.co.uk
Once again this year Redeemer Church on behalf of Saltash Regatta Committee will be entertaining the crowds at the Saltash Regatta and Waterside Festival with the infamous Cardboard Boat Race. The challenge of the boat race is to create a craft made entirely out of cardboard, which can hold up to two people, and can be paddled from Ashtorre slipway to a point on the Tamar and back. This year the committee is adding a twist with a difference! We would like to attempt an ‘ecothemed’ cardboard boat race where all entries will be designed to raise awareness of plastic waste and its impact on marine life, so no plastic bottles allowed! Saltash Scrapstore is teaming up with the cardboard boat team from Redeemer Church to supply boat makers with eco-friendly materials including ecofriendly tape. The competition is open to individuals, local businesses, schools, clubs, organisations or anyone who would like to have a go. All you need is a cardboard boat, a team name and a sense of humour! Due to last year’s success the number of entrants will be limited, so if you want to compete, please take a look at the new rules and book online at surveymonkey.com/r/BZHCW9B Prizes to be won this year are for the Most Impressive Sinking Vessel, the Brunel Award for Creativity (for the most eco-creative design), the Best Fancy Dress and the Overall Winner Come along on Sunday 23rd June to the Saltash Regatta at 12.30 to show your support and cheer on all the competitors as they and their craft take to the water!
AVAILAbLE If you have a particular soft spot for woodland trees, orchards or hedges and would like to plant more in your local community then the Grow Nature Seed Fund might just be what you need to turn your passion into reality. Over the next few months, applicants are being encouraged to ‘branch out’ and make a simple application to the Grow Nature Seed Fund to support local tree-planting on public land. The Grow Nature Seed Fund has already supported some brilliant projects, such as the Bude Community Orchard. Branch Out forms part of Cornwall Council’s efforts, together with the Woodland Trust, Cornwall AONB, and local businesses to try and significantly increase the size and quality of Cornwall’s tree canopy. Through the Grow Nature Seed Fund, Branch Out will support small-scale projects that help create more canopy cover in towns and villages. Up to £1000 is available for each eligible project and there is an opportunity to double your money through the Crowdfund Cornwall platform. Any locally constituted and recognised ‘not for profit’ organisations are eligible to apply. For details of how you can Branch Out with the Grow Nature Seed Fund, please visit the crowdfunder website at www.crowdfunder.co.uk/ crowdfund-cornwall or email Grow-Nature@ cornwall.gov.uk

Personal Will Writing You need a will!
• Professional will writing service in the comfort of your own home.
• Couples can protect their home from residential care fees. • Lasting power of attorney. • Living Wills. Anita is a member of the Society of Will Writers Prices are reasonable (no VAT).
You don’t have to write a Will in the UK, but if you don’t, the UK government can decide who inherits your assets. Having a correctly authored and witnessed Will ensures your estate is distributed as you wish. It can also: • reduce the burden of Inheritence Tax • provide significant protection for your home from long term care costs, and • ensure that suitable guardianship arrangements are made for your dependents and pets. Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPA) LPA’s are important if
you become mentally incapacitated. If this situation arose, you would need someone to help you make decisions regarding your welfare and financial and property matters. LPA’s enable you to nominate a person, or persons who you trust to handle your affairs if you are unable to do so. This is relevant to you now! I am a professional local will writer who will visit your home to discuss your requirements. Anita Hutt LL.B (Hons) MSWW 01579 344433 07971 280 510

OUR FUTURE A review is in process of community health services in Saltash that has welcomed views from local people. Attending the consultations held in April and May were numerous local residents including representations from the Patient Participation Groups at both Portview and Saltash Health Centres and St Barnabas League of Friends. Kate Mitchell, NHS Kernow’s programme lead and project manager for this
piece of work, thanked people for attending the stakeholder event to support the Saltash integrated community services project. The group was invited to participate in the review of community services in Saltash, including those that were provided from the community hospital. Similar sessions are also taking place in Penwith and Fowey, where community hospitals are also temporarily closed to inpatient services. Kate explained, “Each review is distinct to its geographic area, and each review will involve people from that area. It is important to involve local people in this process, and benefit from their knowledge, experience and insight. Information was presented on the key facts and figures and the challenges to Saltash and the surrounding areas. The purpose of the session was to help identify a list of options for the possible future shape of community services in the locality, which will determine the future of St Barnabas Community Hospital.”
MORE FUNDING
This year’s Sustainable Development Fund is open once again for small grants to support projects that help to conserve and enhance the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There is £5,000 in total available for grant requests of between £500-£1,000 for projects that will benefit the area. New for 2019 is a small community grants scheme alongside the SDF, for community groups and individuals to access smaller sums of money to help their projects. Four grants of £250 each are available to bid for. If you have an idea for a project, where £250-£1,000 would help to conserve or enhance the area, or get people involved with the work of the Tamar Valley AONB, please get in touch. Closing date for applications – Friday 28 June.

Marianne’s Gift to the Future We are fortunate to have in Saltash, a generation of people who are determined to pass on the baton of hope for the future. Mrs Marianne Beale is a lifelong environmental campaigner, who has been chosen as the Saltash Environmental Citizen of the Year for 2019. This award was instigated in 2017 by the Mayor of Saltash and the Rotary Club of Saltash to recognise local residents for serving the community/ environment in some special way. Marianne was founder of Saltash Environmental Action (SEA) in 2007. She has remained the driving force behind SEA and has worked tirelessly via SEA to promote greener living in our local area and beyond. She has campaigned ceaselessly to reduce the amount of plastic we use long before the government introduced the charge for plastic bags, and initiated or helped with many SEA projects including Veg In Beds, Saltash Refill
project, Saltash Apple Project, maintaining SEA’s small bed in Victoria Gardens of vegetables , fruit and insect friendly plants, SEA’s entry to the Christmas tree festival, and Making Saltash Greener, a two week festival with many events. Marianne helps with public meetings for talks and films in the Guildhall, and the SEA stall at May Fair, Churchtown Awareness Day, Saltash Regatta and other local events. Most recently she has taken part in the Extinction Rebellion non violent action in London. She stayed on Waterloo bridge for a 23 hour stretch!. The bridge was transformed into a garden and Marianne took Cornish primroses to adorn the bridge! As Saltash Environmental Citizen of the Year, Marianne was given a framed certificate to keep, and there a glass trophy donated by the Rotary Club of Saltash, which is held for a year.

cOMMUNITY news Drawing of proposed plan for the station platform
STATION TRANSFORMATION
Article by Councillor Richard Bickford
Over a number of years, the former Saltash Station building deteriorated into a near derelict state. Once one of the busiest stations in Cornwall, the building was possibly destined for demolition. However, a sustained campaign from many people in Saltash, combined with an invigorated desire by the Town Council to do something positive, has led us to this point where the building is now being refurbished and will once again be a fitting welcome at the first station and town in Cornwall. 160 years have passed since the station was opened as part of the Cornwall Railways in 1859. The present building is a replacement of the small original, but remains
a good example of the architecture of the time. It has witnessed Royal visits and clearly has a special place in the hearts of many Saltash residents. In 2017 Saltash Town Council made the decision to purchase the building and site. A period of consultation followed after which the Bailey Partnership were appointed as architects and to manage the project. Planning consent was gained last summer to refurbish the building, to provide updated passenger waiting facilities, office space and an open plan flexible space that would be available to hire. Cormac were appointed in March after the work went out to tender to complete the build. The work has been made possible with grant

Internally, we have had to deal with some unstable walls that had to be taken down, but strip out work is progressing well. The whole floor will be replaced, to seal it and provide the base for an underfloor heating system. The original wooden sash windows are sadly beyond repair and will be replaced with new wooden sashes to maintain the original look. The central portion of the building will have its rather sad skylight replaced with a sympathetic modern equivalent, and this central area should look stunning once complete. funding from Cornwall Council (£140,000 as part of their Local Transport Plan budget), Great Western Railway (£102,000 from their Customer and Community’s Improvement Fund) and the Railway Heritage Trust (£60,000) as well as utilising £70,000 of local Section 106 funds. The Town Council are grateful for the support of many individuals, groups, organisations and businesses, and are pleased that we can fund this work predominantly through grant funded sources. The council is confident that this project is important to most residents of Saltash, many of whom have proactively campaigned for this to happen over several years.
We have recently been awarded a further £40,000 from Great Western Railway, and combined with further funding from Cornwall Council and Saltash Town Council, we hope to complete the rebuild of the small extension to the North East and fit out the main space. Whilst the budget is agreed, we still need to sign off the funding agreements. When I first stood as a town councillor, one of my main aims was to try to find a positive outcome for the building, I am therefore proud to lead this project and I am thrilled to get to this stage, and very thankful for the incredible level of widespread support received.
As of early May 2019, progress has been steady, possibly a little slower than we would have wanted. This is because working alongside the mainline railway requires a multitude of permissions and many ‘Method Statements’. I am however confident that by the time you read this, the building will have scaffolding surrounding it and contractors will be working on the roof. The Town Council are not committed to a finite timescale, we just want the job to be done properly.

LIFE AFTER STROKE
David M Hinds is a 73-year-old local author living permanently in Devon and Cornwall for the past 23 years and married to saltash.net teacher Tatiana. Whilst recovering from two devastating strokes, he met Russian born Tatiana who would later become his wife. Twenty years later he states, “despite losing my home, my stress management consultancy business and the lifestyle that went with it as a direct consequence of stroke, my friends—a few of whom have known me for more than fifty years—marvel at how happy I am.” The self help books he authored, After Stroke and Beat Depression, out of his own experiences, have now been updated with help from his friend, Dr Wei Fong Lim, a geriatrician with a fellowship
in stroke medicine. There have been huge developments in stroke prevention and acute stroke management in recent years. However, most important of all in David’s personal view, has been the focus on educating the public about the tell-tale signs of someone having a stroke and the need for an emergency ambulance to be called at once. This is because every single second of delay can mean an increasingly challenging period of recovery for the patient. The purpose of David’s book is to inspire and motivate the 12 million annual survivors of stroke worldwide into making the best possible recovery available to them, physically and psychologically. David explains, “Grief, a natural human reaction to loss, is a process of adaptation and passes through
local news a number of recognizable stages, regardless of whether the loss is a loved one, amputation or paralysis. These stages include alarm, shock, denial, anger, guilt, acceptance and adjustment. Most stroke patients also go through a period of depression. Sadly, at present, too few patients and carers reach the final stages of wellbeing and happiness. After Stroke will steer readers towards this positive outcome.” David has also just published his debut novel. A Beautiful Way to Die is a thriller with a heart and a social conscience, a mystery which unfolds to

blow the whistle on the inherent dangers from Tasers. Explaining the plot, David said “Much of the book is set in Devon with reference to Devon and Cornwall Constabulary’s Taser fireball tragedy of 2013. Based on real-life reports of ‘unexplained behavioural changes’ from some post-Taser victims, the novel’s protagonist, Jamie King, is tasered at 50,000-volts in a hostage rescue situation that goes wrong on Dartmoor, unleashing his split personality and causing havoc with his career and love life.” Find out more at www.davidmhinds.com

Confused by Inheritance Tax Legislation? Taking small steps now could mean big tax savings for your loved ones in the future by Melanie Cotterill Many people avoid reviewing or making a Will simply because they do not wish to think about the complexities of Inheritance Tax. Simply relying on the general comments they find in the media about Inheritance Tax, rather Melanie Cotterill than taking advice regarding their own circumstances, can often mean they miss out on the benefits the present tax allowances can provide. You are probably aware that an individuals Nil Rate Band Inheritance Tax Allowance before Inheritance Tax becomes payable on your estate is £325000. But did you know that by leaving your property directly to your children or grandchildren in your Will gives you a further Residents Nil Rate Band allowance (RNRB) of £150000 for the tax year 2019/2020, which will increase again in the following tax year to £175000, provided legislation remains unchanged. This option is still available even if you choose to leave your whole estate to your spouse or civil partner. On the death of the survivor of you, your Executors are able to claim the unused Nil Rate Band Allowance and unused RNRB of the first of you to die and aggregate it with the survivors allowance. This means that for the tax year 2019/2020 your
overall tax free allowance could be as much as £950000. However, as ever, there are some criteria that must be met for the whole of this allowance to be available. • You must be leaving your property directly to your children or grandchildren. • You must have died after 6 April 2017. • The RNRB is only available against one property for up to the value of your property or the RNRB allowance available, whichever the lesser. • You must have lived in the property at some point, therefore a buy to let property that you have never lived in would not enjoy this allowance. • The overall value of your estate must be less than £2,000,000. Surprisingly, but worth remembering, if you downsize to a smaller property, or sell your property after 7 July 2015, the RNRB allowance will still be available to your estate, even if you died in a care home. Mitigating your Inheritance Tax liability is such a worthwhile exercise especially when you have no doubt paid plenty of income tax throughout your lifetime. Call Melanie Cotterill on 01752546448 for a free initial consultation to consider your options, after all every person has their own bespoke circumstances, check your position now.

Undergraduate Rose steeped in the poetic heart of Cornwall
Article by Rose Bonner
I am proud to have been given an internship at The Charles Causley Trust in Launceston alongside another intern, Mitchell Gregory as part of a scheme funded by the University of Plymouth for 10 weeks. The Causley Trust is a charity which aims to maintain the legacy of the Cornish and internationally influential twentieth century poet Charles Causley. It aims to preserve his literary presence, and to encourage new creative, literary and artistic activity in Launceston and the surrounding areas. As a Cornish person myself, having grown up in Saltash my whole life, I feel proud to recognise Causley by his roots and I feel immensely grateful to now be enrolling onto an internship that has been formed by his heritage. Mitchell and I will be working to support the Trust’s literature, residency and events programme and will be involved in a wide variety of work, in potentially all areas of the Trust. This will include writing blogs and articles, interviewing individuals and providing administrative support. Mitch expresses his thoughts about his internship with the Trust: “having the opportunity to work for and assist in the
running of an actual literary Trust is proving to be an invaluable and unique experience”. Over the years, the Causley Trust have run events such as poetry competitions and workshops as well as their annual Festival of Arts & Literature. The annual poetry competition became a tradition in 2013 to celebrate Charles Causley’s poetry and attracts entries from around the world. The competition has expanded and has since become an international event, open to people of all ages with an additional competition for aged 5-18 years. This year’s winner of the Causley International Poetry Competition was Judy O’Kane from Ireland who will be presented with her prize at a special ceremony at The House of Lords in June 2019. The Trust also have two paid writers in residence every year, in Rose Bonner partnership with South West Literature Development agency, Literature Works. The writers spend three months living at Cyprus Well, former home of Charles Causley, and work with schools and community groups to engage people of all ages with writing. it is a valuable opportunity for Mitch and I as interns to gain a wealth of experience into the arts industry and we are both excited for the prospects of our internships.

“Volunteering; an Unpaid Work of Love”
Article By Jo Baskott
Since its inception over 10 years ago, CEPL12 has built its foundation on Volunteering. Volunteering is at the heart of everything we do for our love of the place in which we live, work and shop. We work together as a close-knit team, making new friends along the way. Bob Austin, a volunteer Director of CEPL12, is no stranger to volunteering, having been involved in many community projects over the years. He explains “Volunteering for me isn’t unpaid work; it’s a rewarding leisure activity. I help run the Community Hopper minibuses, both on the admin side and as a driver, and I never know what the day will bring. We get to meet some wonderful people and visit some of the best places in Cornwall and Devon. It’s a great way to give a little bit back to my community, whilst having an enjoyable (and free!) day out.” Trevor has recently spent his days visiting shops, businesses and organisations in and around Saltash, raising awareness of one of our most popular enterprises. “We’re about to re-launch the SaltashCard - Saltash’s very own discount card. We’ve had an amazing response from local businesses, eager to sign up to the scheme with discounts and offers for customers. I never appreciated we had so many
diverse businesses in our community, and it’s satisfying to know I’m doing my bit to encourage people to shop Local.” Volunteering can cover all sorts of roles. At Community Enterprises PL12, we currently have opportunities for volunteers as Hopper Drivers; Passenger Assistants on Hopper trips throughout Devon & Cornwall; shop helpers in the Community Hub and the newly-opened Scrapstore; Dementia Voice helpers; Directors to help run the Organisation; as well as a host of other roles. We also have several exciting new projects in the pipeline, working with other organisations in Saltash. Each of us has a different set of skills and experiences to draw on, making each volunteering experience a unique and rewarding one. As one of our newest volunteers, Peter (an IT expert) says “Volunteering benefits the volunteer, the recipient, and the community, and has given me a wonderful sense of achievement. I help with the technical side of running the organisation; I’m so pleased I made the effort to give some of my time and skills, and I don’t regret it for a moment.” For further details about volunteering with us, please contact us on 01752 848348 hub@cepl12. co.uk

guarantees. The Garden Centre is proud of the way it has been able to offer such a wide range of choice to local customers. “Our range has changed dramatically over the last four years”, explained Centre Manager, Anthea Ede, “and returning customers will be amazed, and hopefully impressed, by the way we have grown and developed the business. You can view all our range on our website (www. tamarviewnurseries. co.uk) but we think it’s very important to be able to offer local people the same value for money and quality products without having to buy unseen or with no advice. My Incredible Adventures
Emily Thuysbaert from Plymouth never thought she’d ever say these words, “I am an Author!” Why? “Because I struggled greatly at school with my Dyslexia”. She recalls that she was frowned upon at school and was never ‘clever’ enough to achieve some of her aspirations! Emily, however, decided to turn her condition into a positive and succeed! This is her story… Chapter 1 – Keep it in the Family! She challenged herself three years ago to write a children’s book with the help and support of her artist mum. It’s thanks to her mum that Emily’s books are illustrated so beautifully. Emily cites her Dad as the ‘driving force’ behind the business, and her agent.
Article by Kaye Bonner
Furthermore, Emily’s aunt, who is a retired teacher, discusses some of the spellings as she proof reads. She has noted that the more creative and involved in her story writing, the better Emily is becoming. As a result, Emily now visits schools reading her books to inspire children and she is involved with various dyslexia awareness projects. This has been not only very helpful to others, but the feedback has been extremely rewarding. Chapter 2 – The Books
My Incredible Adventures was inspired by Emily’s loving pet a Siberian husky named Mia, who sadly passed away earlier this year. Mia had one blue eye and one brown inspiring Emily to enhance her blue eye as having magical powers, which begins the adventures in Looe. Mia’s next adventure in on the Titanic! The Next Chapter Emily’s books are available to purchase on Amazon and WH Smith in Plymouth, and she is available for workshops and consultations on supporting Dyslexics like herself. You can find her on Fb @myincredibleadventures and on Instagram @miamyincredibleadvenures Emily Thuysbaert with her beloved husky Mia

STUDENT
REPORTERS
Saltash Community School at the May Fair by Isobel Whittam
If you were at the May Fair on Saturday 4th May, you may have noticed some flying sponges and soaked teachers around Longstone Park. These brave and willing (or sometimes not so willing) volunteers were teachers and staff from Saltash’s very own stall, raising money for a canopy for the school so students can spend more time outside. The Soak the Teacher game is always very popular at the May Fair, especially among the students, who got their revenge by throwing a wet sponge at their teachers faces. This year the stall also included the selling of sweets and plants, a raffle and a “beat the teacher” at table football. It was very popular with the public and all teachers went home thoroughly soaked. A huge thank you to those who dared to volunteer: Miss West, Miss Porch, Miss Sayer, Miss Crook, Mr Barnes, Mr Peters and Mr Colethey were all really great sports.
Many students from Saltash were also involved in the May Day. Gifted GCSE and A Level students displayed their talents on the stage with a variety of musical performances. With pieces taken from the popular Open Mic Night and some new material, the musicians entertained the crowds. The students were on stage every hour, for fifteen minute sets. Meanwhile, Saltash Student Ambassadors were on hand to assist in the smooth running of the event. They gave up their time to help with moving traffic, setting up stalls and stewarding the parade. You may have also seen them wandering round selling raffle tickets and collecting money for the event. Overall it was a fantastic effort from TEAM Saltash.net to support this traditional community event.

13 THE MUSICAL Following a highly acclaimed run in Liskeard in February, Caradon Youth Theatre are hitting the road with the brilliant musical comedy ‘13’. This fast paced, funny and thought-provoking Broadway smash has an awesome rock score and is a musical about fitting in – and standing out! This fantastic high-energy production received great praise earlier in the year: ‘… the young members of Caradon Youth Theatre have exceeded expectations again…’ ‘… the cast deliver their lines with impeccable comic timing … there were belly laughs from the audience…’ ‘… Ingenious use of a limited set and real professionalism from the young actors …’ This show has everything in it - great songs, dance routines, characters we identify with and lots of very funny moments - we are so proud of this dynamic cast”
says Nic Early, Creative Director. “It’s a superb musical that doesn’t come around very often, a great opportunity and a must see for anyone who is or ever was a teenager!” You can catch it at one of three Cornish venues, Bodmin College, St. Ives Theatre and the first stop is Burraton Community Centre, Grenfell Avenue in Saltash. This performance on Saturday 15 June at 7.30 PM - is promoted by the ‘Sue Hooper Charitable Foundation’ www. suehcf.org.uk “We are so grateful to Sue and her team for suggesting we come to Saltash with the show” said Nic, “it’s going to be a great atmosphere in this intimate venue – we can’t wait”. A group of nursing students held a focus group with members of the older generation to gain a further understanding of issues facing them and their families. The Access to Higher Education in Nursing students from Cornwall College Saltash who are currently studying a Life Span Development module, spoke to the group about various sensitive issues from care plans, how they feel about getting older and possibly losing some independence to how they have settled into retirement and the one piece of advice they would like to give.
She was joined by Judith McQuillen, 72 years old, who said “when I was their age and I wouldn’t have thought I could achieve what they are aiming to achieve”. “Youngsters seem more self-assured these days, it’s fantastic,” she added. Access to Nursing student, Steph Mackley, said it was a very “surprising, rewarding and stimulating day”. “It is great to link these conversations to a lot of what we have learnt in the classroom.”
Valerie Bullock, 86 years old, told the group to “keep aiming high, never give up and do the best you can”.

A Brand New Chapter for Saltash Library
Saltash Library has been relaunched, now under the financial control of Saltash Town Council.
Article by Kaye Bonner
Built in 1962 it was recognised as a ‘state of the art’ building, after it had relocated from the old Saltash YMCA situated where Bradley’s Estate Agents is now built. Saltash town centre was largely bombed during the Second World War, so the residents of Saltash welcomed a ‘new build’ in the town to share their love of reading. Local people in Saltash were invited to celebrate
the official launch of their Library after being transferred to Saltash Town Council as part of an agreement with Cornwall Council. The official ribbon cutting ceremony took place at 11:45am, with the Mayor Cllr John Brady, Deputy Mayor Cllr Gloria Challen of Saltash Town Council, Chairman of the Town Council Library Sub Committee Cllr Jean Dent, and Edwina Hannaford Cornwall Council Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods. The Library will remain part of the countywide service, meaning customers can keep their existing Library cards and still visit, borrow and order books online from other libraries in Cornwall.

cOMMUNITY news Cllr John Brady stated on the day, ‘Thank you for joining us today and for your support in the transition of the Library from Cornwall Council to Saltash Town Council. Saltash Town Council are now looking forward to the future of the Library as the community hub for the town’. Cllr Dent went on to say that, “We are confident that the future of Saltash Library is in safe hands with Saltash Town Council and Cornwall Council working together and this is a very positive movement for the town of Saltash.” Furthermore, Edwina Hannaford, Cornwall Council Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said: “I really enjoyed celebrating the official launch of the Saltash Library under the Management of the Town Council and I’m delighted that it has been secured for the Community and many more generations of Library users. She went on to say that, “Libraries are important to our residents, and this is why we have been working closely with Saltash Town Council to secure the future of the town’s Library, furthermore, the Town Council’s proactive approach to taking more control over local assets is an excellent example of devolution in action, and I commend them for the outstanding service they are providing to their community.” Delicious refreshments and activities for the children were in abundance and gratefully received. WALK AND RAISE MONEY This year’s Discovery Trail Challenge: Cornwall Taster, a walk along the Cornish side of the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’s long-distance route, will take place on Saturday 6 July and will raise funds for Tamar Tender Loving Care (TLC). Tamar TLC was established in 2016, and their Visitor Gifting scheme was launched in 2017. They have worked with a number of local businesses over the past few years to raise money through donation boxes, which is working well. Tamar TLC want to be able to give even more back to help conserve and enhance the landscape. Les Deering, Tamar TLC Trustee says; “We are delighted that the Tamar Valley AONB has chosen us for their charity again this year. Last year almost £300 was raised, and we’d love to match or even exceed that this year.” Coralie Barrow, Development Officer for the Tamar Valley AONB, says, “This Cornwall Taster is the second in a series of three Discovery Trail Challenge events to raise money for Tamar TLC.
This year’s route provides a great opportunity to explore the Cornish side of the Tamar Valley, with its picturesque, historic villages”. Two options are available for walkers on this year’s Discovery Trail Challenge: Cornwall Taster; an 11.5-mile route starting from Horsebridge, (transport provided from the Tamar Valley Centre to the start) or a 2.5-mile family trail from the Tamar Valley Centre, Drakewalls, to Calstock. Both routes will end at the Tamar Valley Centre.
