Dog beaches now open for business It has been a controversial business but now the beaches designated as legal to take your dog are open and signposted for those wanting to use them.
I
t has been the ambition of the local town hall to establish some areas where bathers can take their pets
without fear of breaking the law. However, not everyone has been in agreement and the actual beaches to be chosen have caused some controversy. Punta Margalla and la Cala del Mal Paso are the two areas now designated although this isn’t a permanent
arrangements. They have been chosen temporarily until there is opportunity for residents to take a vote at the next local election. Along with the newly erected signage are bins specifically for the collection of excrement. It is hoped that with this new privilege owners will make
every attempt to clean up after themselves. Last week another set of signs and bins had been placed on the beach but were mysteriously removed and found floating in the sea shortly afterwards. Petitions have been raised by some local residents who object to their local beach being the one designated. Now Councillor Javier Manzanares, who is responsible for the beaches, has asked everyone to abide by the law and there to be no further incidents. ‘We know that everyone isn’t in agreement with this decision,’ said the councillor. ‘However, there is agreement between the local political parties here that there should be this kind of facility in the town.’ Suzanne O’Connell
