New normal at local health centres The pandemic had forced health centres in the Valencian Community to move towards telephone consultations and the minimum possible face-to-face appointments at local health centres. Now, a plan is being put in action to bring health centres back to a ‘new normal’ – health workers will be put on morning and afternoon shifts to allow a

afternoon - in order to avoid crowds and wherever possible, efforts will be made to group diagnostic tests into a single visit for the patient. The aim of the latter is to optimize care, avoid unnecessary travel for patients and to prevent overcrowding in health centres so as not to compromise the safety of both health workers and patients.

actions and recommendations for the ‘new normal’ in the Valencian Community. Telephone consultations are one of the most significant changes to the health service during the pandemic. Now, as reported by the regional Minister for Health, Ana Barceló, appointments by phone are to be combined with face-toface care. The Generalitat has indicated that each health department in the region must adapt in terms of its own needs, and the resources it has, as well as

the evolution of Covid-19 in the particular area. This guide modifies the role of Family Medicine (GP), Nursing and Paediatric staff in terms of interacting with patients because telephone, face-to-face, home and administrative attention will now be combined. Telephone consultations, will be used preferably, for follow-ups or second visits that are not serious. Face-to-face appointments will be spread over two shifts – morning and

Continued from page 1 In order to remove some of the bureaucracy of the process, visits to specialists will no longer necessarily go through the GP in the first instance and in some cases can be made or rescheduled without the patient having to go in person to their health centre. The same will with annual follow-up appointments for certain conditions. In addition, those who are treated in the emergency room and require outpatient follow-up will be discharged with an appointment, without having to go through their GP first. The referral between specialties will also be direct, without using the GP as an intermediary. Health is also set to implement a series of measures to improve citizens' access to health centres. To get an appointment, the possibility of setting up a call recovery centre will be assessed when the telephone demand in a particular area is excessive. According to the Minister for Health, Ana Barceló, “now that the Valencian health system is advancing towards a new normal and we do not have this

Bullets and daggers in Madrid elections The political campaigning for the bitterly fought Madrid regional elections which take place today (4 May) garnered international attention after menacing packages were sent to ministers and other left-wing politicians. Faced with a rise in popularity of far-right Vox in the polls in the capital, parties on the left have linked the deliveries to a surge in "fascism" and intimidation. In contrast, right-wing parties have underplayed their significance, saying aggressive hate mail is normal for many politicians. They

claim highlighting it is a tactic to divert attention from the "real issues" of the election campaign. The leader of Unidas Podemos Pablo Iglesias stormed out of a recent radio debate between candidates when the local leader of Vox, Rocío Monasterio, didn't condemn the letters strongly enough for his liking. Besides a letter sent to Iglesias with four bullets, similar packages also reached the offices of the Interior Minister and the head of the Guardia Civil.

Vox suggested that the letters could be fake and attention turned to how they managed to evade strict post office scanning. One person was reportedly removed from their position by Correos. The Industry minister also appeared in the media this week to talk about a bloody knife received in the post, although the alleged sender, with a mental health condition, was found soon afterwards after adding his return address.

National Police warning for empty homes With many people unable to visit their properties regularly because of coronavirus travel restrictions, burglars have been looking for new tricks to make their crimes easier and to increase their illgotten gains. The large number of properties that have been left empty longer than usual are offering rich pickings. Spain's National Police force has warned homeowners to be on the lookout for a new technique that burglars are using to know if

anyone is at home. Through their social media accounts, the National Police have warned that criminals are adapting their techniques in order to maximise their results. In this new method, the criminals place strings of glue between door and the frame. The fine web is barely visible to the naked eye and therefore less likely to be spotted than previous materials used, such as plastic strips. With this simple system, the thieves know if there is movement

in the house in question, or if the door has not been opened for days. With a glance they can see if the glue strips are still in place or if they have been broken by the movement of the door. The National Police force is calling for the public to be vigilant and if they find these glue strings at the entrance to their property, to report this to the police. This way, officers will be able to track gangs that may be operating in the local area.

Residents presented with Three skateparks plans for new work centre for Orihuela The Orihuela Councillor for Road Cleaning, Dámaso Aparicio hosted a meeting at Orihuela Costa Town Hall to present the plans for the new Work Centre which is to be built on a municipal plot of land close to the AP-7 and CV-95. The Councillor, accompanied by the project technician, Antonio Galiano, met with property administrators and representatives of the communities of owners located in the areas closest to the new facility. The meeting was also attended by union representatives of the Street Cleaning workers. The contract for the project was recently approved by the Governing Board following the tender process which saw seven companies submit bids for the car parks. This was awarded to Galiano Garrigós Arquitectos SL for 25,893.70 euros and in a few days lot 2 will be awarded, corresponding to the construction management and health and safety coordination. After the drafting of the project in detail, the full works will be put out to tender, which will be around 550,000 euros. The chosen location is a plot, of 14,000 meters of which 3,000 will be occupied by the facility, and has been recommended by planning as the most suitable. The design of the building pays special attention to two fundamental aspects: integration into the landscape and passive strategies that help to achieve a better energy balance in the building. The new centre will be totally respectful of the environment:

Residents presented with plans for new work centre: Recent meeting

-The roof will be living vegetation with native species. Living roofs improve a building's thermal insulation and are lowmaintenance. In addition, these maintenance levels decrease if the vegetation used is native. - Photovoltaic panels will be installed on the roof. Thanks to the amount of solar energy received in this area and the decrease in temperature generated by the green roof in its surroundings, improving their performance, the use of this installation will cover the electrical needs of the facility. - The eastern area of the building will be partially buried and having a buried

wall for much of its height will help improve the building's thermal inertia, which translates into saving energy used in air conditioning. - As the main façade faces west, exterior solar protection has been incorporated into the design by means of slats. Therefore, heat is avoided in the hours of greatest intensity, but the passage of light is allowed for natural lighting. - The project has cross ventilation by including openings for lighting and ventilation in the main façade, and windows in the non-buried area at a higher height on the rear.

The Councillor for Sports, Víctor Bernabéu has announced that Orihuela will have three skate parks, in order to meet the considerable demand that exists from lovers of this sport. These will be located in Orihuela Costa, La Aparecida and the centre of Orihuela, and the first of which will be a reality in just two months. Councillor Bernabéu stressed that “the first one will become a reality in a short time, practically two months and it will be in the Sports Centre of La Aparecida. It will be 9 meters long by 23 meters, with improved safety railings. The park will cater for the use of Skateboards, roller blades and BMX in a specially designed bowl. It is a very ambitious and important project for the district where there is an increasing great demand from enthusiasts”. The La Aparecida Skatepark will have

an investment of 55,011.54 euros and an execution period of two months. The bidding process for the Skateparks for the coast and Orihuela Casco will begin in the next few days. The location chosen for the one on the coast will be in the Municipal Sports Centre and the Orihuela City one on a plot attached to the Ociopía Shopping Centre bypass. Ángel Noguera, Councillor for Infrastructures, indicated that “it is a project highly demanded by the public, which won in the participatory budgets. I appreciate the agility that the Department of Sports has shown and I am pleased that they are also going to do another in Orihuela and on the coast”. In 2019 The Department of Sports set the recovery, remodelling and construction of new sports spaces in the municipality of Orihuela as a priority objective.

Fire devastates Natural Park A fire on Saturday devastated part of the natural parkland surrounding the salt lake in Torrevieja. Guardia Civil are now investigating whether or not the fire was set intentionally. On Saturday evening, plumes of smoke could be seen for miles around as a land and air team worked together to battle the blaze. Firefighters from Baix Vinalopó, Vega Baja and Vega Sur parks as well as emergency forest brigades worked on the ground while water cargo helicopters and plans tackled the fire from above, dipping into the nearby salt lake before dousing the fire in an attempt to smother the raging flames. Despite the fire’s proximity to a residential area, it is believed that no one was evacuated. However, several reports indicated electrical cuts and people being confined to their homes for several hours due to the smoke and the heat of the blaze. The fire was detected at around 4.30pm on Saturday afternoon, when numerous drivers passing along the CV-905 alerted the emergency services that they could see smoke belching from the area beside the lake. The tinder dry condition of the reed beds, and the windy conditions of Saturday caused the fire to spread incredibly quickly. Gusts of around 40km/h made the job of putting out the fire extremely difficult. Given the fast spread of the fire, and the proximity of houses, emergency services established a Level One Special Plan for Forest Fires.

Fire fighters considered the fire ‘stabilized’ on Saturday evening just after 9pm and gave the all clear for aerial support to withdraw. Several ground units remained in the area to ensure the fire did not reignite and work continued into the following day until the fire was considered completely extinguished, just after 3pm on Sunday. The Guardia Civil is now considering

the possibility that the spectacular fire next to the famous “Pink Lake” may have been set intentionally. Officers spent a few hours on Sunday going door to door interviewing residents of the area. During the investigation of the aftermath, experts located at least two possible sources of the flames. The fire devastated several hectares of salt marsh vegetation, reed beds and an area of reed beds on the northwest shore of the salt lake, within the natural park, although the total area affected by the fire has not yet been quantified. Spain’s biggest cities ranked for quality of life

Next set of jabs to cover 66 to 69 year olds

A 'quality of life' survey among residents in Spain's biggest cities shows attitudes have changed since the start of the pandemic, according to national consumer organisation OCU, which conducted the research. Taking a stratified sample of 3,000 people in 15 major metropolitan areas, the study asked participants to rank nine key areas which contributed to 'liveability'. Public safety, health and education services, things to do – leisure, culture and sports – pollution and environment, mobility, the job market, cost of living, housing market and cleanliness of streets and outdoor areas in general were scrutinised. The 15 cities assessed were mainly in descending order of size: Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Sevilla, Zaragoza, Málaga, Murcia, Palma de Mallorca, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Bilbao, Alicante, Córdoba, Valladolid, Vigo and Gijón. Based upon answers received in October and November 2020, scores given do not give an overall picture, since in some cases, most or all areas ranked highly and, in others, certain features were given exceptionally-high scores with the rest getting fair or poor ratings, leading to some cities where satisfaction was across the board falling below those where given aspects had clear room for improvement. Given that the criteria included leisure opportunities, ease of getting about, and the job market, it would have been

The Ministry of Health plans this week to begin to vaccinate people in the age groups of 66 to 69 years of age (born between 1952 and 1955, both included) against Covid-19. As in the rest of the groups that have already started the process, these people will receive an invitation by SMS text message or a phone call with information on when and where they should go to be vaccinated. The Vaccination Strategy against COVID 19 in Spain dicates that this age group, which was pending vaccination, will begin the process after the immunisation of the group of people between 60 and 65 years old. The population group between 60 and 65 years old is already listed and receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine, mainly in the large vaccination spaces available to the Valencian Community. This circumstances allow, therefore, that from Monday, 3rd May, the immunisation of the next age group can begin for those people between the ages of 69 and 66, which will last for several weeks. The summons is made through a message to the mobile phone indicating the date, time and place of the vaccination. If the person has not provided a mobile number through the Population Information System (SIP), the health personnel will call them on the landline they have provided. If the data is not up-to-date, it can be changed at your local medical centre.

When purchasing a home in Spain, you’re bound to be swamped with advice. From family and friends, to information you gather from the internet! But what should you really avoid if you want to make a sound investment in Spain? Here are the 3 things you should avoid at all costs: 1. DON’T USE AN IN-HOUSE LAWYER! - ALWAYS use an independent Lawyer! Recommendations from your Real Estate Agent are welcome but let the choice be yours. Anyone that is “in-house” will be biased. Ask yourself this… What are they hiding if they’re insisting you use someone “in-house”?

2. DON’T PAY IN CASH! - NEVER agree to pay any amounts in cash! Not the deposit, not the balance, not anything! You may think you’re saving a little in tax, but you’ll regret it when the time comes for you to sell. 3. DON’T AGREE TO A LOWER AMOUNT IN THE DEEDS! - NEVER let someone (agents or otherwise) talk you into declaring a lower amount in your Title Deeds (Escritura de compraventa). Whatever price you have agreed to pay for the property, make sure that is the figure that shows in your Title Deeds on the day of completion. Declaring a lower amount in your Deeds? Investment Jitters? Investors could be forgiven for being a little on edge. Financial markets have been on a rollercoaster ride for the past year. The value of the UK's biggest 100 companies has plunged by a fifth – with sectors such as leisure, tourism and some retail businesses on their knees. GBP / EUR UPDATE GBP Sterling remained undervalued this month despite a continued vaccine rollout and a sense of returning to normality. Yet this week, the pound wasn’t alone when it came to a lack of inspiration on almost every front leaving most currencies drifting back and forth. On average, sterling was unchanged on the week. Its biggest loss was the cent and three quarters it conceded to the Canadian dollar; its greatest success was the four fifths of a US cent which it picked up. For April as a whole the pound is down by an average of 1.3%, with only one win: it is up by two and a quarter US cents, 1.6%. The few UK economic data presented the pound with no problems. With the exception of public sector borrowing, all the UK ecostats were ahead on the month and better than forecast. The government borrowed £303 billion in the year to March, the most ever on an annual basis. Retail sales looked good, up by 5.4% in March and 7.2% above the same month last year. The BRC’s shop price index for April, which was 1.3% lower on the year. The BRC believes that “falling prices are unlikely to last”. Just released is Nationwide’s house price index, which showed prices at a 17-year high in April, up by the greatest margin since 2004. Last Friday’s provisional purchasing managers’ indices were really quite impressive. The services sector reading at 60.1 was an 80-month high and the 60.7 for manufacturing was the highest since July 1994. The numbers were of no appreciable help to sterling though, perhaps because the

Eurozone reading for manufacturing was a record 63.3. EURO As just mentioned, the provisional PMI for manufacturingfor the Eurozone was even more impressive than Britain’s. It came in at a record high of 63.3. Services at 50.3 looked less remarkable at 50.3 but even that was an eight-month high. The other pan-euro-area statistics were the European Commission’s confidence measures. Most were higher on the month, with consumer confidence exceeding its long-term average for the first time since March last year. However, it was noted from the GfK consumer confidence index in Germany that “rising infection rates and the need to tighten the lockdown restrictions are weighing on the consumer climate”. At a national level, IFO’s survey of business confidencefound companies slightly more content with the current situation but less optimistic about the future. Almost half of those canvassed are worried about supply issues, especially with regard to microprocessors. German firms’ order books are full but they cannot get hold of essential components. On average the euro was a touch higher. It strengthened by a fifth of a cent against sterling and added almost one US cent. For the month of April the EUR is 0.5% firmer, four US cents to the good and two cents higher against the GBP. One to watch in the following weeks will be Italy’s Prime Minister Mario Draghi, and his plans to spend €261 billion on rescuing the economy and fixing long lasting structural weaknesses.

Housing market continues to grow Home-buying figures are starting to show signs of recovery despite the uncertainty surrounding the pandemic, with sales and purchases having risen for two months on the trot, pending statistics for April. According to Spain's National Statistics Institute (INE), a total of 43,185 residential properties changed hands in February, which is only 4.6 percent down from February 2020, just before the Covid crisis hit Europe and the last full month of 'normality' on the continent. And this represents an 8.6 percent growth on sales figures for January 2021, a month when, even without the Coronavirus issue, the Christmas mayhem and overspending would normally mean selling or buying a home takes a back seat. During the first quarter of 2021, house sales were down 10 percent on that of 2020, which is only to be expected, given that all bar the last two weeks of the first quarter of last year were pandemic-free in Spain. The onset of the 'third wave' of Covid contagion in Spain, one which was, in most areas, more aggressive than the previous two put together, meant excellent

progress in the housing market in November and December 2020 reversed sharply in January 2021, dropping by 15.4 percent, with year-on-year figures showing a reduction overall of 17.7 percent in sales – the greatest in a decade. But the vaccine roll-out across Europe, combined with a considerable drop in Covid cases in more than half of Spain – in some areas, down to zero outside large towns and cities – means 2021 is likely to start to see a gradual recovery in the market, especially in terms of holiday homes among buyers living outside of the country once international travel is fully re-established. Second-hand property sales fell 8.1 percent year on year, with 33,055 in February, but this still represented a rise of 5.5 percent on January. And non-new homes continue to make up the bulk of the residential property market, accounting for 76.5 percent of the total. For new builds the situation appears buoyant: For the first time in six-and-a-half years, or since July 2014, Spain broke the 10,000 barrier and reported

significant growth. In February 2021, a total of 10,130 brand-new homes were bought, being nearly a quarter – 23.5 percent - of the overall sales and purchases for the month and representing a year-on-year rise of 11.1 percent. Compared with January this year, new-build sales in February rocketed by 20.4 percent, and the overall rise for the first quarter of 2021, from that of 2020, was 5.6 percent. With this increase coming at the beginning of a year where Covid cases were more rife than ever before and restrictions on trade and movement nationwide were extremely tight, it gives a taster of what the new-build market may look like in a 'normal' year and what could be expected once the health crisis is over. The Comunidad Valenciana suffered a fall of 12.8 percent, although reports throughout the last year showed some areas of its three provinces enjoyed some very buoyant months, particularly post lockdown when an upsurge in enquiries about villas with pools and gardens came from residents who had been stuck in town apartments with no outside space.

New tourism walks for May Spain to welcome travellers from June

Hot on the heels of the success of the tourism walks offered throughout March and April, the Councillor for Tourism in Orihuela, Mariola Rocamora, has announced the new May programme. More than 450 people enjoyed the different activities organised by the Department of Tourism during the months of March and April with the 16 routes clocking a total of 35 visits. The tours were experienced by local people from Orihuela and visitors from across the province and wider community including Valencia. The tourist routes held during these two months were a huge hit with members of the public and on most occasions the groups

had to be increased in order to accommodate the requests. For the month of May, the Department of Tourism has once again scheduled the most popular tourist walks and are also adding new routes. This includes the route of Miguel Hernández, highlighting his life and work and most emblematic places linked to the poet. During the tour verses will be recited by members of the Orihuela Social Forum. Other new additions are the Andalusian Legacy Route where the link between the Palm Grove and North Africa will be explained, the Modernista Route featuring unique buildings from the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century

and a Nordic Walk to the Twin Wheels. Mariola Rocamora said: “"With this series of activities we want to make Orihuela and its rich heritage and history more fully known. The number of people who can attend is again limited by health measures, with groups of 20 people. All tourist routes are completely free, complying with all health measures, always directed by Official Guides of the Valencian Community.” As of May, citizens and visitors who want to participate in tourist routes can reserve their place through orihuelaturistica.es from the "Reservations" section. Reservations can also be made by WhatsApp on 673 836 385.

The country will begin piloting a digital health certificate program at all of its airports in May. Spain is the latest European country to announce its intentions to open to travellers from outside of Europe in time for summer. “Spain is going to be ready in June to tell all travellers worldwide that you can visit us,” Fernando Valdes Verelst, Spain’s secretary of state for tourism, said during a recent panel discussion at the World Travel & Tourism Council’s (WTTC) Global Summit in Cancun, Mexico. He added that Spain is preparing to implement a digital health certificate, which it is piloting in all the country’s 46 airports in May. “The best thing that governments right now can provide to travellers is certainty. Give the proper information and the security that they can travel and they can come back to [our] countries,” Verelst said. According to the tourism secretary, tourism-dependent countries in Europe - including Spain, Greece, Portugal, and Italy have been pushing the European Union to put in place a digital health certificate system that will facilitate the movement of travellers between countries during the ongoing pandemic. Following that push, in March, European leaders agreed to the issuing of Digital Green Certificates to EU residents who can prove they

have been vaccinated against COVID-19 and also to those who have tested negative for the virus or can prove they recovered from it. The goal is to have the system up and running by summer. Verelst applauded the news that emerged on 25th April that fully vaccinated U.S. travellers should soon be able to travel to Europe. Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, told the New York Times that the European Union “will accept, unconditionally, all those who are vaccinated with vaccines that are approved by EMA [the European Medicines Agency].” The three vaccines that have been approved for use in the United States - Pfizer/BioNTech, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson - have all been approved for use in Europe. “This will enable free movement and the travel to the European Union,” she said. While Von der Leyen did not say exactly when the European Commission would formalise its recommendations to allow vaccinated Americans to bypass the current ban on travel to Europe, other European leaders, including now the Spanish tourism secretary, have indicated that this summer is indeed the goal. A handful of European countries aren’t waiting and have already started opening up to travellers who are either vaccinated or present negative COVID-19 test results, including Greece and

Iceland. On 19th April, the Greek government began a phased reopening of its borders, marking the first time international travellers could visit the Mediterranean country since Europe’s borders closed in March 2020. Iceland relaxed its border restrictions for vaccinated travellers in late March 2021, which followed similar moves by Croatia, Estonia, and Georgia (Montenegro and Cyprus have since joined the pack as well). The news comes even as the U.S. Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) voiced concern that there is still a very high level of COVID-19 cases in Spain. Saying that ‘Spain is experiencing about 9,800 new cases per day, on average, and about 100 deaths per day. The country has experienced a total of 3.5 million cases, and nearly 78,000 deaths due to COVID-19 as of 28th April. A little more than 11 million people in Spain have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and only 8 percent of the population has been fully vaccinated’. Currently only citizens and residents of the European Union, along with travellers from the European Commission–approved countries of Australia, New Zealand, Rwanda, Singapore, South Korea, and Thailand, can enter Spain.

What’s the worst that can happen?! By Sam Kelly DipPFS, EFA, BA (Hons) Managing Partner Chorus Financial Often the first question asked by clients considering an investment or pension with Chorus! So, I thought this would be a good time to really dig into that, because for me, discussing the risks and potential downsides of an investment is as important as selling the benefits. All investments carry some degree of risk, so the most critical element is that the investment is suitable for the client’s circumstances and falls within their personal risk tolerance. You will generally be asked for complete a risk profile questionnaire when seeing a financial adviser, and this will result in you being asked to confirm a level of risk, for example,

that agreed risk level. In the image below, I have shown the historic returns on a portfolio we recently designed for a client who has a low to medium attitude to risk. To ensure diversification, this portfolio was made up of 17 different funds from fund houses including Vanguard, Rathbones, Blackrock, Aegon, Fidelity, Baillie Gifford and several others. As an advisory firm who take a totally independent approach to fund selection, we are able to build our client portfolios from the leading fund houses in the world without any restrictions or bias, so the focus is always on value, experience and quality.

documentation and analysis for any portfolio I am recommending, including data that goes back as far as possible. We do always have to say, however, that pass performance is no indication of future performance, and as I am about to confirm, portfolios can go down as well as up! The analysis we provide when making a recommendation includes the last 5 year’s annualised returns, and in this example, investors would’ve seen an average 9.3% annual return before product and advice fees over each of the last 5 years. But what we also show are the worst and best historic returns for as far back as the data will take us. Many of you will remember 2008 and it was certainly not a good year to be an investor! On the above portfolio, if you had held this portfolio from October 2007 until October 2008, your holdings would’ve fallen 17%! The 2020 Covid 19 drop last year was a mere blip, that recovered in a matter of weeks, compared to 2008!

As you can see above, the data available for this portfolio goes all the way back to 2005. I like to ensure my clients receive comprehensive

However, what is reassuring, is that over the last 16 years, even if you had invested at the absolute worst time possible, from October 2007 to

October 2012, you would still have seen an annualised return of 4%. So even considering that particularlyawful year, you would have still come out on top if you had held for 5 full years. A financial adviser can never truly predict the markets, but it is our job to ensure our clients understand risk, and we can help manage risk by keeping fees low, diversifying well and choosing quality funds for our portfolios. You should also never consider an investment or pension transfer unless you are willing to hold such a plan for a decent period of time. All historic investment data shows that one of your best friends when it comes to investing is time. Study finds Barcelona concert Orihuela Health Department did not ‘super spread’ launches website Researchers have concluded that a rock concert for 5,000 people in Barcelona was not a super spreading event. The concert featuring the band Love of Lesbian took place at the Palau Sant Jordi sporting arena on 27th March. There was no social distancing at the event, but face masks had to be worn. In order to attend, the concert-goers had to either take an antigen test at the site or present the negative results of a test done in the previous eight hours. The concert was part of a pilot study conducted by the research team at Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital, which recently presented their findings. Of the 5,000 attendees, only six coronavirus cases were detected, according to Josep Maria Llibre, a member of the hospital’s department against infectious diseases. Upon further review of these contagions, it was determined that four of the cases had not been caught at the concert. “Analysing the data available, the possibility that these people had contracted the virus at the event is minimal,” said Llibre. The researchers indicated that the coronavirus incidence rate among the general population of Barcelona was nearly double that of the concert-goers. As of 14th

April, the 14-day cumulative number of cases per 100,000 inhabitants was 130.7 in the case of the attendees, and 259.9 in the case of the same age group in the wider community. But there are still many questions yet to be resolved, said researchers Buenaventura Clotet and Boris Rebollo, who also took part in the pilot test. There are doubts, for example, about whether to include people who had been vaccinated in the study, given that, as Clotet explained, “a vaccinated person, even though they may have a low viral load, can still spread [the coronavirus].” There are also questions about how such an event could be carried out in smaller venues, which do not have the resources to carry out on-site antigen tests. Jordi Herreruela, the director of

the Cruïlla music festival – which is expected to bring together 25,000 people a day at the threeday event in summer – said that “what’s most difficult is correctly verifying the test results and being able to give a valid result to each person studied.” He explained that while the pilot at the Palau Sant Jordi showed that such a feat was possible, it comes “with a very high economic cost.” Llibre argued that it was up to health authorities to introduce protocols for these types of events that clearly state “where attendees need to be tested, in what period and with what limits.” With respect to the new, more contagious variants of the coronavirus, Clotet said that the antigen test “work for any virus, although in each case the speed of transmission is different.”

The Orihuela Health Department has launched its new website https://orihuela.san.gva.es as a flexible and accessible communication tool aimed at both users and patients as well as professionals. This is the creation of a new information source for the department that provides health coverage to more than 168,000 inhabitants in the Vega Baja region. The portal has useful resources for patients and users offering current content and news, information on the organisation of the department, lists of the entire Primary Care network that including health centres and clinics. It also has contact and access to the portfolio of services that includes Patient Care and Information Service (SAIP), links

and telephone numbers of interest and the location of both the Vega Baja Hospital, Specialty Centres and each of the health centres. The website is also a fluid communication channel for professionals, who can find employment information, data on the job market, competitive examinations, transfers and access to the Welcome Plan and the Equality Plan. In addition, the portal has a teaching section in which all the information on undergraduate and postgraduate training offered by the department is held. "Orihuela Department of Health considers that this new website is a key and close means that serves to respond to citizen demands, facilitating procedures

and resolving doubts by making known all the necessary information," said Miguel Fayos, department manager. One of the points of interest that the website makes available to its users is the availability of all the tools currently offered by the Department of Universal Health and Public Health. Links to institutional online platforms such as the request for a prior appointment, the GVA + Salut App, the Transfusion Centre portal for the Valencian Community, the Xarxa Valort or the Coronavirus (COVID-19) health service portal, among others. Also present on this page is access to the department's social networks, Facebook and Twitter, through which latest news is communicated.

Possible case of ‘Indian strain’ in Valencian Community Health has confirmed that it is investigating what could be the first case of the Indian variant of the coronavirus in the Valencia Community. This is a woman who is currently admitted and isolated in the General Hospital of Valencia, as reported by the Public Health Department. The woman arrived in Accident and Emergencies at the hospital with symptoms compatible with covid-19 and had been contact with a person who has travelled to India.

The patient had not travelled to India personally, but his sister has just returned from the Asian country. Therefore, the Public Health Department is investigating and studying the situation as it may be a case of contagion by the new variant of the Indian strain of the coronavirus. At the moment, the patient's sister is also in isolation awaiting further tests. The Ministry assures that PCR sequences are still being made to isolate the variant. The first tests do

not rule out some of the strains of the virus. However, the Public Health Department says that it is too early to say what strain it is. It will still take a few days to have definitive results. The suspicions have only arisen because the sister of the patient has travelled to India, but for the moment the Ministry insists that there is no clinical confirmation of what strain the coronavirus is. "It is important to know that the case is unique and isolated," they added.

The head of the organisation Reporters Without Borders also issued a message on Twitter. Since the first attacks took place in 2015, there have been around 5,000 victims, half of them in 2020 according to data from the non-profit group Acled. More than a million have been internally displaced. The last violent incident involving a Spanish national in Burkina Faso took place on 15th February, 2019, when the missionary Antonio César Fernández Fernández was killed by a group of jihadists who had attacked the customs post in Nohao, in the south of the country. The Spaniard was returning to his home in Ouagadougou after having participated in an event in Lomé, the capital of Togo.

Last year's Oscars saw Spain's jointbiggest living Hollywood export Antonio Banderas – the other being Penélope Cruz – go home empty-handed, having earned his first-ever nomination in a career that is now into its fifth decade. But this year's Oscars did include one Spanish winner – Sevilla-born Sergio López-Rivera, 54, who grew up in Santander, Cantabria. Attending the ceremony with his husband, López-Rivera said his triumph had only been possible thanks to his grandmother back in the farnorthern coastal region of Spain. Along with his colleagues Mia Neal and Jamika Wilson, Sergio won the Oscar for Best Hair and Makeup for the US jazz scene film Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, in which he rose eagerly to the challenge of 'disfiguring' the lead actress Viola Davis, who played the central character. Viola Davis had personally requested her makeup artist for the rôle be Sergio LópezRivera, whom she had worked with before in How to Get Away With a Murder. Of the original 'Ma Rainey', one of the first female artists to record her music accompanied by a band in 1920s' Chicago, only seven photos could be found and only

one of these close-up enough to see her features in full detail, Sergio said. “We discovered she was a woman who was very fat, who sweated excessively, who had lots of gold teeth and who was considered the ugliest person in the musical industry,” he reveals. Denzel Washington, producing the film for Netflix, admitted he

was 'speechless' when he first saw Viola Davis in character, and though the makeup appeared 'too grotesque', something Sergio did not find out about until afterwards. He took his inspiration for it from two sources: One, Bette Davis in her terrifying Baby Jane rôle, and two, his grandmother's own makeup style in the Civil War years.

Court rejects opposition appeal to stop 2021 budget in Torrvieja The mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, held a press conference on Thursday morning together with the Councillor for the Economy and Finance, Domingo Paredes, to report that the Litigation Court No. 1 of Elche has rejected an appeal presented by three opposition councillors to stop the General Budget of the City Council for the year 2021. Eduardo Dolón said that the court’s decision not to paralyze the budget is that “some municipal budgets that are necessary and essential for the operation and management of Torrevieja City Council". This, declared the mayor, “Once again shows that the opposition we have in our city is dedicated solely and exclusively to trying to paralyze all the work that we have been doing to improve Torrevieja and the well-being of Torrevieja; something that we will continue to denounce every day of the year .” The mayor said he also believes that these same opposition councillors will continue to resort to all the administrative procedures possible so that Torrevieja is paralyzed, so that Torrevieja does not advance and that Torrevieja does not prosper; stating that “all Torrevieja must know that these are

their only intentions and that it is nonsense that these budgets have been paralyzed for two months.” The mayor gave the order for a Plenary session of the Council to be convened as soon as possible so that the budgets can finally be approved. Once the Municipal Budget is approved, some important economic commitments can be fulfilled in order to improve the. Some of those, delayed further due to Covid 19, are now urgent including university scholarships. Also clear to go ahead is the Commercial Reactivation Plan, with an investment of €500,000, which is now more than ever necessary for sectors of Torrevieja most affected by the pandemic. The contract relating to food banks can also be formalised. During the pandemic, this service was being provided under an Emergency Contract and without a specific economic reference in the budget.

Homophobic attack may have been planned Police believe that those arrested in Alicante for a homophobic attack may have planned the assault in which a 43 year old man suffered serious injuries. Officers discovered a WhatsApp group to which several of the young people arrested belong. Police suspect that the attack, which took place in Tossal in February, was not accidental but premeditated. Furthermore, officers from the Family and Women's Unit (UFAM) of the National Police, in charge of the investigation, suspect that this incident was not the first of its kind. 14 people have now been arrested in relation to the assault. Conversations were held over WhatsApp by several individuals a few days before the attack on Valentine's Day. In them, one of the young men asks another if “there was a queer out there” and, after answering “no”, another of the detainees replied that “today we are going at eight”, in what officers believe was a clear allusion to his intentions. Those arrested are aged between 14 and 19 years old and are of both Spanish and foreign nationality. Officers have also identified two other people over 18 years of age and once they are arrested the police investigation will be closed. Of the 14 people arrested, nine are minors, one of whom had already been admitted to a Detention Centre when Police took a statement for his alleged involvement in the events.

The degree of participation of each of those arrested in the assault is different. The Police have charged them for hate crimes, serious injuries and attempted robbery with violence, since they tried to steal the victim’s mobile phone while they beat him, although the victim had a strong grip on it and they did not manage to take it. As reported by the Police, the victim was on a bench in a pine tree area of Tossal park in Alicante with two other friends. The three were cornered by at least fifteen people who taunted and insulted them, with words like "fags, sons of bitches, get out of here, we're going to kill you." Despite the homophobic insults, they chose to leave the area to avoid confrontation but they realised that they were being followed and tried to flee in different directions. Two of them were able to escape, but the third did not succeed. He was chased and after being

hit, he was punched, kicked and beaten with a wooden stick. The aggressors fled before the arrival of the Police, who administered first aid to the victim and called an ambulance. The man suffered fractures of the nasal septum, cheekbone and femur. He underwent emergency surgery on two occasions and is still awaiting a third surgery, according to the Police. Those investigating the incident said it “has been tremendously complex since the injured party did not know the aggressors at all and given how brutal and senseless it was, he could hardly provide data on the attackers .” Officers only had a video recorded by one of the surveillance cameras in the area of Mount Tossal and in it, part of the ordeal suffered by the victim is fleetingly seen. Through the CCTV footage, the Police initially identified one of the aggressors and later the rest of those involved in the brutal assault.

Emmerdale favourite Complaints over controversial surgery show hints at soap exit Channel 5 has been hit with thousands of complaints after it aired a cruel show targeting reality TV star, Charlotte Crosby. On 22nd April the channel showed Celebrities: What's Happened To Your Face - Charlotte Crosby which dissected the former Geordie Shore personality's appearance. The hour-long programme saw a group of plastic surgeons discussing how the Newcastle native's appearance has changed since she shot to fame. After the episode aired Channel 5 decide to remove it from their streaming platform, My5, but Ofcom has said that they've received 7,082 complaints about the show after Charlotte blasted the production online. Last week, Charlotte lashed out at Channel 5 after the programme detailing the history of her plastic surgery went out. The MTV personality, 31, slammed the documentary for "dissecting" her appearance and blasted TV bosses for dedicating an hour to commenting on her looks, despite her agent telling them how "immoral and insensitive it was". Taking to Instagram to share a statement Charlotte blasted Channel 5 and production company Crackit for not considering her mental wellbeing by airing the one-off show and told of her disbelief that the episode was shown in 2021. She typed: "I cannot quite believe I am saying this but here goes. Last night, Channel 5 & Crackit Productions put out a one-hour documentary called

Charlotte Crosby

'Celebrities - What Happened To Your Face - Charlotte Crosby. "In 2021, a main UK channel and production company believe it would be a good use of airtime, to dissect my physical appearance.” Charlotte went on to acknowledge that she chose to be a celebrity by starring on reality TV but that she has had a "public battle" with her image which the TV show did not help. She went on: "I am aware I have put myself and my face in the public eye. TV and broadcasting had given me and my family a life we could never have dreamed of. I enjoy it, am enormously grateful for it and many of my respected closest friends work within the industry. "I have had a public battle with my appearance, and have had to go through personal trauma & issues of self-

confidence in the spot-light. I like to think I'm an honest, balanced person - I get it, I understand the interest. "One quick Google or look at my Instagram page, you'll see how intensely I've been targeted by trolls and how I've learnt to ignore the hate, focus on the positives and work on loving myself again. It's a process, it's taken time, compassion, personal and professional support." Lashing out at the show for being insensitive and harsh on her looks and the surgeries and tweaks she has decided to have since finding fame, she continued: "At a time when the broadcast & media world were backing a policy of 'be kind', Channel 5 and Crackit decided to commission this one hour special on 'rubber lip Charlotte' (their words not mine).”

Emmerdale actress Karen Blick has hinted that she may be leaving the popular ITV soap. The 46-year-old, who plays the role of Lydia Dingle, has been a part of the Dales since 2016 and found love with Sam Dingle (James Hooton) last year and was been officially welcomed into the Dingle family. When asked if she can see herself staying in the soap and perhaps taking on the role of Dingle matriarch, Karen wasn't entirely sure what the future will hold for Lydia. "I would love to, Karen Blick there are no guarantees with this job, we all know that you never know when your time is up," she admitted. "In this show, I would love to stay as long as they’re happy to have me. As I say, I’m a Yorkshire woman, local to where I live and I mentioned this previously, it is a dream job so yes, I’m happy to stay for as long as viewers are happy to have Lydia." Speaking about being lucky enough to be on one of the biggest programmes in television, Karen continued: "I absolutely love it, it's amazing, it's a fantastic opportunity. "It’s brilliant to be in Emmerdale, but to be in Emmerdale and to be in the Dingles is a double whammy it's brilliant!

"There's always something going on, there's always a scam or there's some scandal, or there's some drama. "There's always an element and one of the characters - there's so many Dingles that if something affects one of their lives or their story, then we're all involved in some way,” Karen added. "But it's great, it's great to play a nice, strong Yorkshire woman in Emmerdale. It's good to have that wide representation in the Dingle women as well, there's lots of different qualities that are seen within the female characters." Asked if she sees Lydia and Sam being the new Lisa and Zak Dingle, the actress replied: "I hear this a lot, I get asked this question quite a lot. "And then it's massively, massively flattering; to be able to think that you could continue in a role for as long as Jane Cox did, that would be absolutely amazing. "They are big shoes to fill, and it's hard as an actor, each character is unique and individual, and each actor brings something of themselves which is unique and individual for that. "But if we can fill a gap in some way then that's a huge.

Drone deliveries New dog Agility tested in Benidorm Park in Bigastro The European Space Agency is using Benidorm as an urban testing lab to run trials of an innovative project that aims to use drones for the transport and delivery of packages in both rural and urban settings. As well as convenience, the hope is that such a scheme could facilitate the distribution of food, medicine and other essential goods to areas with difficult access. The tests, which ran from Monday to Thursday last week, were supervised by technicians from the two participating technology centres: the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) and the Advanced Centre for Aerospace Technologies (CATEC). The initial tests were designed to detect possible interferences that could be caused by buildings in European satellite positioning systems that use drones to fly. Benidorm, with its many high rise apartment blocks, was the perfect test centre. The project is called ‘Project Delorean’, and although the name matches that of the famous car from Back to the Future, it is actually an acronym: "Drones and Egnss for LOw aiRspacE urbAN mobility" – EGNSS stands for The European Global

Navigation Satellite Systems Agency. Benidorm town hall was also involved in the test flights through the Local Police Air Unit; as were large companies in the technology, delivery and aviation sector, such as the Airbus, Correos, PildoLabs and Geonumerics and Bauhaus Luftfahrt. Israel Quintanilla, professor of Aeronautical Engineering and Geomatic Engineering and president of the UPV's Drone Commission said, “Benidorm is the only city where all the real flight tests will be carried out, which is allowing us to test all the previous research that we have developed, to be able to analyze and validate the algorithms in a complicated urban environment.” The flying of drones in urban environments requires a special permit, since legislation prevents unauthorised drone use due to the risk of accidents. Delorean is one of two projects from the European Space Agency that will be tested in Benidorm to "integrate the new generation of these intelligent aerial vehicles into everyday life", which in the future could not only speed up delivery times for goods but also reduce pollution, traffic and improve access to hard-to-reach areas.

Bigastro town hall has opened a new 3000 square metre dog agility park. The park will be divided into two areas: one of 1500 m2 which will be open to the public daily, with equipment for pets, an area with benches and trees, and a closed enclosure to allow pets to run around. Another 1500 m2 will be used for dog training and agility classes, offered by the BigastroCan pet association. The association will also organize awareness talks for local primary schools and as part of the overall awareness campaign, the town hall will also give away a bag holder and a bottle which can be used to rinse the pavement after the dog has lifted its leg.

The councillor for the Environment, Antonio Meseguer, called on all dog owners to take care of the park so that it “does not become a ‘pipican’, since if so, the town hall will not carry out maintenance, relying on the civility of pet owners.” In line with the new awareness campaign, the councillor announced a new stricter Municipal Ordinance to combat dog excrement on public roads with fines of up to €3000 for non compliance. The councillor pointed out that one of the new aspects of the amended ordinance is that pet owners must carry a bottle of water to rinse away any dog urine after their pet.

Rod Stewart fan to shave beloved hair for good cause Mike Futter is a diehard Rod Stewart fan. So much so, his beloved hair is modelled on his musical idol. However, that is all about to change since Mike met Jodie Lee Baxter. Mike happened to meet Jodie and heard that she was trying to raise funds to have a lift installed in her home. As featured in the Costa Blanca People earlier this month, the community is rallying around Jodie and her friend Jade started a Go Fund Me campaign to gather the funds necessary to install the lift and allow Jodie to live a normal life with her family. Currently, because she is confined to a wheelchair, Jodie spends most of her time in the

downstairs garage as the family home is upstairs. When he can, her husband lifts her up or down the stairs, but works long hours so if she is lifted upstairs, she is stuck there until his return from work. Mike learned all of this when he happened to meet Jodie and decided he is going to, very publicly, have his head shaved. The big shave will take place in about a month’s time (exact date TBC) at Cafe Uno in Catral. A raffle and auction will also take place on the day to boost the lift fund for Jodie. Mike also plans to use his global Rod Stewart fan contacts and has put the word out among ‘Smilers’ (a Rod Stewart fan club run by fans) in an attempt to raise even more money for Jodie. To donate, simply search for ‘Jodie Lee Baxter’ on gofundme.com where you can donate to help Jodie life a normal life.

National Police on the Solar Costa Blanca recover powered pavement ancient coin National Police on the Costa Blanca have recovered an ancient gold coin, from the year 716. Officers in Calpe recovered the coin which was being offered for sale on social media. The coin is a bilingual dinar, minted in Córdoba, of which there are only 24 others in existence. The coin is part of one of the first currencies issues after the Muslim conquest of the Peninsula and is highly valuable. Officers recovered the coin among a collection of other archaeological pieces of great value that were being offered for sale on social media. The investigation began when officers of the Historical Heritage Brigade were carrying out tracking and cyber-patrol work. Officers stumbled upon the advertisement of a gold coin that they suspected could have been unearthed during an illegal looting , due to the remains of loose earth visible on its surface.

After initial inquiries, officers found out that the person who was selling the coin was based in the province of Barcelona, so they proceeded to take a statement. According to the investigators, the coin had been offered to him by an acquaintance, who lived in the Alicante town of Calpe, through an online second-hand goods portal. Officers travelled to Calpe and arrested the man, now accused of a crime against the historical heritage for acts of plunder. Subsequently, a search was carried out at the residence of the detainee in which, in addition to the ancient gold coin, two other silver coins were seized, a gold seal/ring of Muslim origin, a “Trajan” sestertius (ancient Roman coin) and three metals detectors. The recovered pieces have been handed over to the Archaeological Museum of Alicante (MARQ) for study and analysis.

Barcelona city council has installed Spain’s first photovoltaic pavement as part of the city’s campaign to become carbon neutral by 2050. 50 square metres of non-slip solar panels have been installed in a small park in the Glòries area of the city. Experts believe the panels will generate 7,560kWh a year, enough to supply three households. The city has contributed €30,000 towards the cost, the remainder being financed by the manufacturer of the panels. Experts will assess the viability of the project after six months. Eloi Badia, responsible for climate emergency at Barcelona city council said, “We’ll have to assess the wear and tear because obviously it’s not the same as putting panels on a roof, although they are highly resistant. As for cost benefits, with a pilot scheme like this it’s difficult to know yet how much cheaper it would be if it were scaled up. We’re keen to install more on roofs and, if this scheme is successful, on the ground, to power lighting and other public facilities.”

Which countries drink the most wine? The US easily tops the list of countries that drink the most wine but global wine consumption dropped by 3 percent in 2020, according to the International Organisation of Vine & Wine (OIV) in its new annual report. World wine consumption weighed in at an estimated 234 million hectolitres (mhl) last year, equivalent to 23.4bn litres. It’s the smallest amount of wine drunk in any year since 2002, said OIV, although it urged caution and emphasised the number was only an estimate. It cited the possible impact of Covid-19 and said the drop was comparable to that seen following the 2008-09 global financial crisis. ‘With the exception of Prosecco, sparkling wine is the category of wines that suffered the most in 2020,’ said the OIV. Bag-in-box wine sales have experienced a sharp increase in sales although overall volumes remain low,’ it added. Yet it also highlighted differing growth trends between countries. Wine consumption in China

fell by around 17 percent last year, marking the third consecutive year of ‘sharp decline’, OIV said. The US, meanwhile, held steady versus 2019. A shift to ecommerce may have helped to cushion the economic impact of the pandemic. So, which other countries drink the most wine, according to OIV’s preliminary figures for 2020? Top 10 countries that drink the most wine: US – 33mhl (flat on 2019) France – 24.7mhl (flat on 2019) Italy – 24.5mhl (up 7.5%) Germany – 19.8mhl (up 0.2%) UK – 13.3mhl (up 2.2%) China – 12.4mhl (down 17.4%) Russia – 10.3mhl (up 3%) Spain – 9.6mhl (down 6.8%) Argentina – 9.4mhl (up 6.5%) Australia – 5.7mhl (down 3.7%)

However, on a per capita basis, the leader board would look quite different. A chart shared by the American Association of Wine Economists (AAWE) on Twitter earlier this year presented the average litres of wine drunk per person (aged over 15 years) in 2018. Portugal topped the charts, on 62.1 litres per person on average, closely followed by Luxembourg on 55.5 litres. France and Italy came in at 50.2 and 43.7 litres, with the UK back at 22.6 litres and the US coming in at 12.4 litres. Things have changed a lot in the last few decades, too. Another chart publicised by AAWE shows how French wine consumption has roughly halved on a per capita basis in the last 50 years, having already been declining before 1970.That chart is from the recently updated ‘annual database of global wine markets, 18352018’, created by the University of Adelaide’s Wine Economics Research Centre. Italy, too, has seen consumption drop from around 100 litres per person in 1970, according to the complied figures.

Fibromyalgia awareness events

Half of UK men say body image impacts mental health

Torrevieja has announced a series of events to raise awareness of Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Activities will take place from May 10th to 15th and are organised by the charity organisation ASIMEPP. The programme of events was presented by Councillor for Charities and Volunteers, Concha Sala, together with the President of ASIMEPP Torrevieja Maite Miralles. Activities will begin on Monday, May 10, and end on Saturday, May 15, with the most important day being Wednesday 12, Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Day, where the reading of a manifesto will take place at ASIMEPP headquarters on Calle Concordia. The objective is to raise awareness of what many describe as a ‘silent disease’. All those who want to attend the activities should book (in Spanish) by calling 966 927 140, in order to respect COVID-19 measures.

A new study by suicide prevention charity Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) and Instagram found 48% of men aged 16-40 had struggled because of how they feel about their body. Of 2,000 males asked, 58% said the pandemic had affected how they feel about their body in a negative way. Only 26% said they were happy with how they look and 21% said they don't feel comfortable talking to anyone about it. CALM and Instagram are launching a new series, CALM Body Talks in an attempt to start a conversation around men’s mental health and body image. "Women face these issues everyday too, and that's why it has been so great to witness the rise of the body positivity movement over the past few years," said campaigner Jamie Laing, "You scroll through hashtags like #bodypositivity and #selflove on Instagram and you see so many women sharing experiences of body changes during lockdown, advice for self-care and motivational messages to support their community. It's hard to ignore the fact that there is a stark gender divide here, and men are often missing from the conversation." During the first coronavirus lockdown in 2020, CALM says it saw a 40% increase in calls to its helpline and visits to its website by 16-24-year-olds double. CEO Simon Gunning admits Instagram has been part of the problem for young people's body image.

“Unquestionably Instagram has caused the pressure for adolescent boys to be big and muscly, it is unhealthy and unattainable,” he said, “This campaign tackles the issue at its core, body image on Instagram. Body image issues are

massively prevalent in women and girls. The same pressures apply to men but we don't discuss it in the same way - the way we portray body image for men is decades behind. There is no debate for men on this topic."

High blood pressure symptoms you should know about High blood pressure - which doctors technically refer to as hypertension - can slowly develop and damage your body for years; and over time, if high blood pressure causes enough damage, it can increase your risk of having a stroke or heart attack. It's a dangerous condition, but what makes it even more dangerous is that high blood pressure doesn't usually present with many (if any) symptoms - in fact, it's often called the "silent killer." But this doesn't mean you're completely out of luck when it comes to diagnosing and treating hypertension. Here's what you need to know about high blood pressure and how it may present in those affected by it. In general, blood pressure is is defined as "the force of blood on a vessel wall” and having your blood pressure measured by a doctor or a home-use machine is the only way to truly know whether your blood pressure is too high. That blood pressure reading - which is measured by a gauge attached to an inflatable blood pressure cuff that wraps around your arm and gently tightens comes in two different numbers: Your systolic blood pressure (the pressure inside your arteries when your heart beats) and your diastolic blood pressure (the pressure inside your arteries when your heart is resting). Doctors tell you

your blood pressure in this format: systolic blood pressure over diastolic blood pressure. For example, 120 over 80 (120/80) is considered the normal range for blood pressure. While there are some risk factors that can contribute to high blood pressure like smoking, high stress levels, poor diet, not enough exercise, and genetics symptoms of hypertension aren't quite as cut-and-dry. Overall, high blood pressure is called the silent killer for a reason. That's because any possible symptoms that could be related to high blood pressure could also be indicative of other health conditions. The three inconclusively related symptoms of high blood pressure are: Blood spots in the eyes: This condition technically called subconjunctival hemorrhage - is more common in those with diabetes and high blood pressure, though neither directly causes the blood spots. Facial flushing: Facial flushing happens when blood vessels in the face dilate. While facial flushing may occur with high blood pressure, it can also be a result of various other factors like sun exposure, cold temperature, spicy foods and skincare products. Dizziness: While dizziness isn't directly caused by high blood pressure,

sudden onset dizziness, loss of coordination and balance, and trouble walking should not be ignored, since they can be indicators of a stroke (for which high blood pressure is the leading cause). That said, while higher-than-normal blood pressure often doesn't show specific symptoms, a hypertensive crisis when blood pressure rises quickly and severely, and reads 180/120 or higher can show some more specific symptoms and necessitate immediate medical attention. These emergency symptoms

How do I stop my controlling friend? We met through work - then both retired. Particularly throughout Lockdown, she was very needy. She is not incapable but calls on others a lot rather than do things herself. It would often be the case when I was busy, that I’d put myself out to help her then find she had enlisted the help of others. She also muscles in on our plans when she knows my family and I are doing something, and would just turn up uninvited. Last year we managed a short hotel break, and she said she would come along. We managed to get out of it, but I had to tell a white lie, which I don’t like doing, just so my husband and I could be alone. She's pleasant enough, but doesn't remember to ask me about my problems, even though she knows about them. I know all about her life, and her problems. It seems very one-sided at times. If you can’t bring yourself to cut ties with this lady, you will have to grow a tougher skin. You may have to stop mentioning your private plans in order to have time to yourself, but constantly having to do that, might become exhausting. Your longer letter tells me that this lady is not particularly someone whom you would regard as a friend, and that she picks people up, and puts them down a great deal. So you have some thinking to do. You can manage this lady, or start by putting distance between you until your relationship fades. It seems like she may stop asking for you, if you don’t make yourself so available.

include: • Severe headache • Shortness of breath • Nosebleeds • Severe anxiety So, get your blood pressure checked regularly and listen to your doctor if they advise you to lower your blood pressure. Unlike other medical conditions, you can’t count on a symptom to signal to you that your blood pressure is dangerously high, so it’s important to try to keep your blood pressure under

control consistently, especially if a medical professional suggests that you need to. Thankfully, there are various blood pressure medications that can be prescribed based on a specific patient’s needs, but there are also many different ways to lower your blood pressure via lifestyle changes. If you smoke, consider stopping, and also make sure not to drink excessively. Additionally, experts recommend trying to lower your stress levels as much as possible, eating more whole foods, and regularly exercising.

TWO WHEELS Agile, but vulnerable The motorcycle has been gaining ground in the city for years. Agile – in all the comparisons, it 'saves' a third the travel time compared to a car–, it occupies 5 times less space than a car, it is easily parked... For this reason and despite the pandemic, sales grew in Europe by 1% in 2020 -according to the European Association of Motorcycle Manufacturersand, although Covid-19 affected its use, its use grew as all non-shared vehicles grew out of control. Years ago, the DGT authorised drivers of a standard car licence the ability to drive motorcycles of up to 125 cc, so long as the category B permit had been held for 3 years. Another example of its progress as an element of mobility are shared use systems, present in many cities through companies such as Muving, eCooltra, Acciona ..., which are rented and paid for through apps on smartphones. There are also many municipal initiatives to promote its use: for example, some cities have set up reserved parking areas for motorcycles or allow them to be parked on the pavement – depending on the width and

whether they leave space for pedestrians–; Others exempt electric motorcycles from paying in regulated parking areas, allowing them to circulate on special lanes or implement advanced stop areas before traffic

lights ... There are even autonomous communities that provide aid for electric motorcycles. In addition, the modification of the Traffic Regulations prepared by the DGT will affect motorcycles. For example, it will introduce the possibility of driving on the hard shoulder (in congested areas and, at a maximum, at 40 km / h) and will force the use of gloves, it will open the arrival of new technological security elements and will regulate intercoms. ANESDOR, DGT, RACE and DORNA recently launched the #PonteUnAirbag campaign to raise awareness among motorcycle and moped users of

the advantages of wearing garments with an airbag. Pere Navarro compared the use of this element with the implantation of the helmet: “The airbag is going to be an essential element to protect critical areas of the thorax, where 35% of deceased motorists and more than 25% of those hospitalised suffer torso injuries. From the DGT we clearly bet on its use, and we will incorporate it into the equipment of the motorcyclists of the Traffic Group of the Guardia Civil”. The truth is that the research and launch of new safety elements for the motorcycle also measure the importance of this vehicle in mobility. From messengers to delivery men The agility of the motorcycle in the city and its ease of parking have always found a place in the cities. Several decades ago, the streets were filled with couriers, carrying documents or objects at maximum speed. Now, with the rise of electronic commerce, this has been transferred to the delivery of goods at home and to food delivery people, who by bike or motorbike, 'surf' the traffic not always respecting rules, only driven by the speed of delivery.

Spain among the four countries with the least accidents Spain, with 29 deaths per million inhabitants, is the fourth country in the European Union with the lowest mortality rate due to traffic accidents, only behind Sweden (18), Malta (21) and Denmark (27) and ahead, for the first time in history, of reference countries in road safety such as the Netherlands (31), Germany (33) and France (39). These are the provisional figures for road fatalities in 2020 published this week by the European Commission and which estimate that in the entire European Union 18,000 people died due to road traffic accidents, which represents a decrease of 17% (-4,000

deaths) compared to 2019. According to the European Commission, the lower volume of traffic as a result of the health pandemic has had a direct, although not measurable, impact on this drop in road accidents, since some European countries, despite this reduction in mobility, increased the deaths and risky behaviours, particularly speeding, increased during lockdown periods. According to published data, 18 of the member states registered a lower number of deaths, although the reduction has not been the same. The decreases of more than 20% occurred in

Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Spain, France, Croatia, Italy, Hungary, Malta and Slovenia. In contrast, countries such as Estonia, Ireland, Latvia, Luxembourg and Finland increased the number of people killed. According to Pere Navarro, director of the General Directorate of Traffic, “it is true that in 2020 we have reduced deaths from traffic accidents, but in an atypical year in which the pandemic has conditioned everything; therefore now the challenge is to consolidate that trend”. "We have taken regulatory measures that need time to consolidate and to verify their effectiveness."

Allergies when driving Driving with an allergy can increase the risk of having an accident during the journey by 30%. In fact, up to 75% of allergy sufferers admit that the allergy reduces their ability to drive. These data are worrying because 30% of the population suffers from some type of allergy and that each year more than a million people go to a specialist for the first time. Experts believe that by 2050 up to 50% of the adult population will suffer from allergic rhinitis (due to pollen, mainly grass). In addition, more than half of allergy sufferers suffer from sleep disturbances and 2 out of 5 of those with rhinitis also suffer from daytime sleepiness, which interferes with their day-today activities. Driving "blind" According to the Acierto.com platform, suffering an allergy peak while driving (with repeated sneezing, watery eyes and constant runny nose), reduces the attention we pay to the road. For example, at a speed of 90 kilometres per hour, a fivesecond sneeze sequence would be equivalent to traveling 140 metres "blindly." This distance increases if we add the moment before the sneeze (during the itching sensation) and the moment after until we regain our

attention on the road. According to the sources consulted by the platform, irritation and tearing are the most dangerous effects: they increase sensitivity to lights and the sun and the feeling of fatigue and directly affect vision, a fundamental sense for driving. What if we take medication? Despite the fact that correct treatment is key to reducing the effects of allergy, only 20% of those who suffer from it are treated by a medical specialist. The rest, 80%, either take nothing or self-medicate. The latter is dangerous for road safety because wrong consumption of drugs can alter our ability to drive. In fact, it is estimated that 10% of traffic accidents are related to this. In addition, we must not forget that some very common medications can cause drowsiness, dizziness or loss of appetite, which directly influences our ability to drive. What can we do? We have some tips to reduce

allergy symptoms when we go by car: Keep the windows closed. Use air conditioning filters and change them as often as recommended. Take care of the cleanliness of the vehicle because the dust contains mites, a cause of many allergies. Wearing sunglasses helps reduce tearing. If we are going to undertake a long journey, it is recommended to change clothes (especially if we have been abroad) and wash your face and eyes before leaving. Avoid driving in humid areas or with a lot of vegetation (if possible) so that pollen does not accumulate. Consult with an allergist and other specialists and avoid selfmedication. Do not consume alcohol because it can enhance the adverse effects of some medications indicated for allergies. Do not smoke inside the vehicle so as not to aggravate the symptoms. Try not to drive at dawn or dusk because it is at that time when pollen concentrations are highest. Check pollen levels on the website of the Spanish Allergy Network, www.polenes.com.

Despite these European data, the Commission recalls that in the decade 2010-2020 the number of road deaths fell by 36%, far from the goal of 50% fewer deaths that had been set for this decade. Only Greece (54%) exceeded the target, followed by Croatia (44%), Spain (44%), Portugal (43%), Italy (42%) and Slovenia (42%). In total, nine Member States recorded falls of 40% or more. However, with a rate of 42 road deaths per million inhabitants, the EU continues to be the continent with the highest levels of road safety. The world average is over 180. Post-Covid mobility The European Commission also points out how the pandemic has caused many cities to grant more space to cyclists and pedestrians, a measure that can have a

positive impact on air quality and that leads local authorities to rethink spaces in cities. Across the EU, around 70% of fatalities in urban areas are vulnerable road users, i.e. pedestrians, motorcyclists and cyclists. Therefore, addressing road safety in cities is a key area of focus and the Commission wants to ensure that road safety is taken into account at all stages of urban mobility planning. For this reason, road safety will be an important element of the new Urban Mobility Initiative that the Commission will present later this year. In this regard, two European capitals, Helsinki and Oslo, achieved the milestone of zero pedestrian and cyclist deaths in 2019, citing speed reductions as essential for progress.

Children on bikes The role of the families and adults responsible for children is fundamental, setting an example as road users and teaching how to make good use of the bicycle. To reduce the risk of minors when they use the bicycle as a means of movement or leisure, the experts of the Alianza Española para la Seguridad Vial Infantil(Spanish Alliance for Child Road Safety) following the give recommendations: Helmet: The use of a helmet for children under 16 years of age is mandatory both in the city and on interurban roads. It is important that the size of the helmet fits the child's head and that it is correctly fastened. AESVi recommends that those over 16 also use a helmet because it is an essential element of protection and that it can save lives in the event of a fall. Equipment: It is important that children wear appropriate clothing and equipment for riding a bicycle: shoes that support their feet well and avoid possible snagging with the pedals, gloves that protect their hands in the event of a fall, and clothing that facilitates freedom of movement. Signal manoeuvres: When they are out and about on the bike they should signal the manoeuvres, and above all be aware that you have to be careful

with pedestrians, adjusting the speed and circulating with caution. or Parents Families: must adults responsible accompany their children until they are autonomous and at this time it is essential that they comply with traffic regulations: traffic lights, zebra crossings, speed limits ... In this way they will set an example and children will be educated to be responsible and respectful adults with other road users. Not on the pavement:As a general rule, cyclists cannot ride on the pavement unless it is marked as a bicycle lane for shared use with pedestrians. In the city and on the road, you must circulate on the bike lanes whenever they are available. Get off the bike: To cross a pedestrian crossing, the cyclist must get off the bicycle and cross it on foot, pushing the bicycle, otherwise they will not have priority. In parallel: On the road, you can only circulate in parallel in sections with good visibility and without traffic jams. Cyclists should always stick as far as possible to the right side of the road. Illumination: Whenever the light conditions are low, they have to use lighting fixtures and reflective clothing, especially in autumn and winter. The

regulations specify that bicycles, to circulate at night, on sections of roads marked with the 'tunnel' sign or when there are meteorological or environmental conditions that significantly reduce visibility, must have front and rear position light and rear reflector. Bell. According to the regulations, to be able to circulate on any road, urban or interurban, bicycles must be equipped with a bell, prohibiting the use of other different acoustic devices. If the child rides a bike to school The school must set up an area to leave the bicycle for children who use this means of movement. The backpack should not be overloaded with weight, as it could destabilise the child. It is recommended that adults accompany children the first few times, identifying dangerous points, crossings and crosswalks (and the way to cross). It should also be explained to them that they must circulate in a calm and safe way. Attention parents! The AESVi child road safety experts call on all parents and adults responsible for a minor to increase protection on any type of journey, especially on daily commutes, which is where the guard is usually lowered.

Abbey Anglers On Tuesday the 27th of April we once again visited the El Bosquet complex at Crevillente. The Weather was overcast and the last part of the match took place with light drizzle. Winner once again was Neil McBernie who in recent weeks has seemingly become unbeatable on this venue. Drawn on peg 36 he caught small carp consistently on maggot or pellet for 25.58kg. In second place was none other than Mr Pastry himself Terry Brindley. Drawn on peg 30 he took some quality carp on paste fished at about 12m for 16.60kg. In third place was Mr Preston , Alan Smith who drawn on peg 6 on the new channel caught carp on maggot for 16.24kg. Other section winners were Steve Higgins from peg 1 with 10.82kg. The pairs competition was won by Neil and John Waples. Elche CF on the Emotional Roller Coaster On Saturday 1st May, Spanish Labour Day, 18th placed Elche CF took on top of the table Atletico Madrid. With 43 points seperating the two teams, a monmentous effert is required from the Franiverdes and a small miracle would not go amiss.

condition. At the draw the outcome of the match became a foregone conclusion when the best angler on the complex drew the best peg. This was in fact the case and Neil McBernie despite sporting some very dodgy trousers, weighed in a magnificent total of 47.94kg of carp from peg 26. He fished diagonally towards peg 8 at about 11 metres on the pole and caught some lovely carp mainly on pellet. Second on the day was John

Waples who again caught some quality carp from peg 40 for 29.88kg Third was yours truly Ian Brown, I fished peg 38 and caught a large number of small carp fishing across on pellet or maggot for 16.74kg. The pairs competition was won by Neil and Jim Rouse with over 53kg. Further details can be seen on our website www.abbeyanglers.es Ian Brown

The first 15 minutes was all about Atletico, with a possession ratio of 78% verses 22%. The first goal came on the 16th minute from the Uruguayan legend, Luis Suarez. During his career he has won 19 trophies and scored over 500 goals for club and country. The first small requested miracle came just 2 minutes later from VAR, as an offside ruling was passed and the scoreline line returned to 0-0. Atletico bounced back with a cruel Elche own goal. An unmarked Llorente was hoverring around the penalty spot and fired the ball towards the waiting goalie, who was surprised by a deflection off Calvo's arm. As the half rolled on so Elche improved, upping their possession to 36%. This frustrated

Diego Simeone's men and resulted in them recieving two yellow cards. Just as extra time started the referee blew for a penalty as Atletico's shot ricocheted off Gonzalez's tight to his body arm. VAR was put to work once again and the referee's opinion was needed to annul it. Escriba's men continued their improvement and had their first real goal opportunity from a corner which ended in a tangle of players and no ball over the line. Then it was Atletico's opportunity, the ball hit the post, bounced out and then was tapped in but the offside flag was up already. The game gathered pace and Elche's tailisman Nino came on, whilst his team mates recieved 3 yellow cards in quick succession, one totaly unnecessary for dissent as Boye kicked the ball away in frustration. Both sides threw almost everything they had at the game, with a combined total of 9 subsitutions. Just

5 minutes before half time, Elche missed a sitter as Barragan volleyed it cenitmeters over the crossbar. This was closely followed by a free kick which ended with a penalty due to a deliberate handball. Fidel stepped up and after forcing the Atletico oranged haired, oranged clothed goalie to commit, accurately placed the ball to hit the post. Elche gifted the 3 points. Next weekend Elche CF will travel away to Real Sociedad in Basque Country at 21:00 on Friday. As soon as spectators are allowed back into the stadiums, EuroTourGuide will once again be offering Coach Tours with Match Tickets to support Elche CF. Villamartin 17 members and guests from Alfie’s GS played at one of our local courses at Villamartin. The course was in first class condition, the greens were true and the weather played its part in what was at times a perfect day for golf, so breaking par today should be possible. Our winner of the Gold Division was our Handicap Secretary, Derek Fleet playing off 19.9 with a score of 36 points. Second place went to our Treasurer, Ian Ingledew playing off 13.4, with a score of 35 stableford points Both golfers received Keg’N’Kitchen meal vouchers. The winner of the Silver Division was Rita Potters playing off a handicap off 27.2, with a score of 37stableford points. Second place went to Gary Armstrong playing off 20.9, with 35 points. Both golfers received Keg’N’Kitchen meal vouchers. Nearest the pin on the 9th – went to Dave Steward, Dave won an Albatross Golf Voucher. What a race that Spanish GP in Jerez was, wow! It was all looking clear cut at the half way point. Fabio Quartararo, winner of the last 2 races was over a second ahead of Jack Miller and the writing was on the wall. Suddenly, inexplicably, he slowed down and Miller pouncedfollowed by a succession of riders. Miller held on to take the win from Peco Bagnaia and Franco Morbidelli. It was only Miller’s second ever win and the popular Australian was in tears afterwards. Bagnaia’s 2nd puts him at the top of the standings on 66 points, 2 clear of Quartararo and well in front of Maverick Viñales on 50 and reigning champion Joan Mir on 49. A marvellous start to only his 2nd season It later emerged that Quartararo, who finished 13th, was suffering from arm pump in his right arm, a common affliction in bike riders which leaves the rider unable to perform to the max. It requires surgery if serious, indeed Jack Miller had the procedure pre season so it isn’t necessarily a career threat but we’re bang in the middle of the busiest time of the season and there’s just no time for surgery. Poor old Marc Marquez had a

terrible weekend, crashing heavily twice in pre race and could only manage 9th. Don’t write him off though, trust me. Next stop Le Mans. More famous for 4 wheels but with 2 Frenchmen challenging this year (don’t forget Zarco) will home advantage count? I’m sure the others will have something to say about that. World Superbikes starts the following week and I’m expecting fireworks again this year between reigning champ Jonathan Rea

Miller on the podium

and former MotoGP rider Scott Redding in his 2nd season. Both of them have been putting down big markers in tests. If you’re thinking of buying a new Harley you’d better be quick as the EU have stuck a 56% tariff on bikes imported from the USA. I’m sure there’ll be an appeal but it could ruin Harley in Europe if not reversed. Any feedback or suggestions (polite ones only) by email at jacknottim@gmail.com Stay safe moteros, Jack (not Tim)

TALES FROM THE TOP FLIGHT PSG, I mean.

■ CHRIS DARWEN

Leicester are still exploring creative ways of not finishing in the top four this season. Southampton went down to ten men, probably wrongly, on Friday night evoking memories of the last time they went down to ten men early against Leicester and ended up losing 9-0. However this time, the Saints fought and came away with a point - a point that means that Rodgers’ still has a few more sleepless nights ahead of him.

Well, you have to applaud the Manchester United fans. The players have been unable to stop City winning the title once again, so you can understand their cunning plan to slow down the title parade. Lots of United supporters broke into Old Trafford ahead of their clash with Liverpool to protest at the ownership of the Glazers - or, alternatively, decided to give themselves a free tour of the stadium whilst managing to get the match postponed. It was a protest sold to us “mainly peaceful” and a “wake up call to the Glazers” and “the continuation of what happened two weeks ago”, but what do these fans think their protests are actually going to lead to? The Glazers selling? Yes, that could happen of course - but then who can actually afford to buy the club? It’s either going to be another billionaire who, guess what, will treat it exactly the same way as the largest football cash cow in the world or a country looking to use football to gloss over some details they’d rather got forgotten. I have more patience with United fans than many over this, to be honest - they were kicking off about the Glazers before their takeover even went through and many broke away to form their own club as a result. And, to be fair, the off-thepitch action almost certainly provided more entertainment than anything United and Liverpool have served up in recent seasons. United had been in action earlier in the week, repeating their only party trick of going behind before storming back and battering Roma in the Europa League. Edinson Cavani may have scored a brace but there’s still no real clarity on whether he will be at United next season - and even if

he is, can they expect to challenge City and ward off Liverpool with him as their main number 9? United might still face Arsenal in the Europa League final but, more likely, they’ll face the competition specialist extraordinaire in Villarreal’s Unai Emery. City are in the kind of box seat that only Pep in the Champions League could throw away and Chelsea will probably live to regret not killing off Madrid when they had the chance. The other million-dollar question in football this week is who is left standing in the queue to take the Tottenham job? It is believed Daniel Levy genuinely believed he might be able to get Julian Nagelsmann, a self-confessed Bayern Munich fan with the knowledge that the Bayern Munich job was up for grabs, to London. Bayern announced Nagelsmann earlier in the week. Admiring glances were sent in the direction of Brendan Rodgers who, publicly at least, said he was very happy in his current marriage and had no intention of leaving Leicester. Next on the list was Ajax’s Erik ten Hag who, skillfully, used Spurs’ interest to get an extra year and a fair wad of cash added to his

Las Ramblas Golf Society Yvonne Goes Into Lockdown! Just to ring the changes we headed off to La Finca for Monday’s 2 ball better ball competition. Yvonne Phipps did eventually make it to the first tee after a search and rescue party found her locked in the ladies toilet! Despite the extra length of the course compared to Las Ramblas there were still some very good scores posted. With 41 points and winning on countback were Andy Martin and Donna Campbell. Pipped at the post were Dave Pulling and John Drakesmith whilst in third place, with 40 points, it was Bryan Neal and John Shervell. There were plenty of prizes up for grabs in Wednesday’s ‘Biggerstaff Bash’ 2 ball better ball. This annual event is played in memory of and named after one of our founder members; Geoff. Our reigning champions, Mark Western and Nigel Price, failed in their efforts to retain the trophy but came in third with a very respectful 45 points. This year’s winners, with 48 points, were Joyce McClusky and

Mike Brentnall. John Shervell was the bridesmaid yet again as, alongside Lindsay Forbes, he was runner up with 46 points. It was the usual suspects cashing in on the nearest the pins. Andy and Andrea Martin got one each and they were joined by Mike Chapman and Ron Phipps. Thanks to Dee Biggerstaff for the halftime snacks and to Jonnie at Rikikiki’s Bar, La Fuente, for hosting our awards ceremony. (Yes the clubhouse is still closed). Friday saw us play a 6x6x6 reverse. In teams of four it was three to score on the 1st 6 holes, two on the second 6 and just one on the final 6. As this was the first time we’d played this format our new record score of 90 points went to Graham Murray, Paul Brown, Nora Betts and Mike Chapman. Just two behind them were Andrea Martin, Yvonne Phipps, Lindsay Forbes and Nigel Price. Pues hasta la semana que viene Peter Reffell

monthly pay packet. So who is left? Some papers are trying to suggest that Hansi Flick, the new Germany coach elect, might be swayed from that course to take over from Mourinho. Another German, Ralf Rangnick, might be persuaded to give the Premier League an all-time high of two coaches called Ralf in situ. More realistically, Levy’s going to go back to Rodgers with an eye-watering contract before sounding out whether Graham Potter fancies ruining his reputation by leaving a very well run club for a not-so-well run club. Anyway, on to the Premier League matches that did actually take place at the weekend. Peppy G’s got the champagne on ice after City took Crystal Palace apart in Saturday’s early fixture. They might be tired, they might not even know which competition they are competing for one week from the next and they might be giving Sergio Aguero token appearances so he can leave in a better way - but they are still very, very good. And that finish from Aguero was tasty - what odds on him scoring the goal that wins City their first-ever Champions League? If Pep doesn’t overthink the return leg with

Nailed on for a top-four spot now are Chelsea. Tommy Tuchel is getting a tune out of at least one of the Germans he was brought in to fix - albeit Kai Havertz only took Fulham apart single-handedly. Timo Werner, fresh from missing the kind of chance that will haunt him forever if Chelsea do go out of the Champions League this week, put in yet another fine performance missing the one thing he was bought for - goals. Danny Welbeck can still play a bit, channelling his inner Hal RobsonKanu to Cruyff turn himself into a lovely little goalscoring position. Leeds were bizarrely toothless without Kalvin Phillips, a phrase that I would love to see Bielsa give to his interpreter. Everton truly do have split personalities. Actually, scrap that statement - they really are not as good as (a) they think they are and (b) others think they are. Aston Villa were the latest side to dent Carlo Ancelotti’s European hopes and someone should convince Ross Barkley he is playing his old club every week. Arsenal have been the subject of takeover chat by, you guessed it, a different billionaire this week - the

Lo Crispin Golf Society at El Plantio Following a number of cancellations, 22 members and 1 guest 'teed it up' in an individual stableford competition on 28th April. The weather was almost perfect and the course was generally in good condition, although some of the tee boxes were a bit scruffy and threadbare. While fully understanding and appreciative of covid restrictions regarding the raking of bunkers etc surely course staff could at least rake them prior to play starting for the day. The sand in some of the bunkers was very compacted and looked like they might not have been raked for months. The scores for the day were poor, despite no obvious reason for it. As always following the game we returned to the lo Crispin Tavern where the day's prizes were awarded. Gold Division 1st. Place - Graham Ellis 22 pts. off 5

2nd. Place - Ray Hampton 21 pts. off 11 (on count back) 3rd. Place - Rod Pullen 21 pts. off 9 Silver Division 1st. Place - Margaret O'Brien 24 pts. off 29 2nd. Plce - Barney Barningham 20 pts. off 23 (on count back) 3rd. Place - Scott Blair - 20 pts. off 28 N.T.P. on Par 3s. Hole 7 - Ray Hampton Hole 9 - Andy Quinn Hole 14 - No one managed to reach or stay on the green. Hole 17 - Graham Ellis Finally, the Free Game Draw was won by one of our newer members, Julie King. Our next game is at La Finca on the 12th. May is our 2nd. Major of the year, the Claret Jug. Steve Harrington (Handicap and Membership Secretary).

guy who has made his fortune through Spotify. Apparently, he grew up on the streets of his hometown in Sweden wearing the Arsenal shirt, crying when Ian Wright left and fully appreciating the art of Dennis Bergkamp. The Kroenkes have stated the club is not for sale - which sounds like a barefaced lie to me when you learn that the club has actually been on the market for £1.7bn for the last two years. On the pitch, Arteta’s eight changes led to them easing past Newcastle 2-0. That’s a quarter of a goal for each change. Finally, we can say Gareth Bale has found the level he needs to be playing at next season. Tottenham smashed relegated Sheffield United 4-0 with Bale nabbing a hat-trick. Championship defences should look out next season.
