Concern and confusion over green light for UK holidaymakers Spain has opened its doors to UK holidaymakers without quarantine, PCR tests or proof of vaccination. UK visitors were given the official green light to enter Spain from yesterday – Monday 24th May - by the country's government
after it decided to lift restrictions. It means that holidaymakers from the UK will be allowed without any kind of covid-related restrictions.
However, at the moment, Spain is still included in the UK's Government's Amber category in the traffic light system. Therefore, anyone returning to the UK from Spain must self-isolate on return and take a number of coronavirus tests. Boris Johnson has also made it clear that Britons should not be travelling to Spain for a holiday. He has reiterated that there are only a few acceptable circumstances under which a trip to Spain is allowable such as a funeral or essential work. Despite the rules, thousands have been travelling abroad, and more are now expected to fly out to Spain this week. Flights are expected to increase by 200 percent in the coming days.
The Spanish Interior Ministry has confirmed that the UK will be placed on Spain’s non-EU exemption list, in spite of initial fears over the spread of the Indian variant. The ministry said: "At present the European Union is debating a modification of the recommendation on a temporary restriction of non-essential journeys from outside the EU. It’s foreseeable that Japan and the UK will be included in the list of country exempted. "Several EU states have already put those two countries in that privileged position.
