Dismembered body discovered in Torrevieja bin

A homeless man made a macabre find in torrevieja when searching through rubbish bins for items to sell. the man discovered two legs and an arm in a bin on the town’s Avenida Cortes Valencianas, behind a busy local

supermarket. the suspect, a 70 year old Finnish man, was identified via CCtV and arrested after more body parts were found at his nearby home. the victim is believed to be the man’s 68 year old partner, also a Finnish national.

reports suggest that the investigation began late on thursday evening when a homeless man alerted police to the discovery of dismembered body parts. Guardia Civil rushed to the scene while investigators examined

CCtV footage of the area, identifying the suspect who was loitering nearby on a bicycle. Sources suggest that the suspect deposited the victim’s head and several other body parts in the bin several hours before the discovery was made – the bins were since emptied and officers continue to look for the victim’s head and one of her arms with searches underway at the Xixona landfill where torrevieja sends its waste. After the first remains were found in the bin, officers searched the man’s home and found further evidence and on Saturday, more body parts (a limb, say reports) were found in wasteground near Calle Manuel romera, near the water tanks. Crime scene investigators carried out an exhaustive search of the wasteground on Saturday afternoon

before removing the remains for examination. the discovery on Saturday took place just metres away from the house that the couple shared and very near to the spot where the first remains were found. the couple’s neighbours in the Vistabella residential complex were shocked to find they had been walking their dogs through the same wasteground where more remains were found at the weekend. A Guardia Civil spokesperson said, “We have held the alleged author of a homicide in torrevieja after the remains of the dismembered body of a woman were found inside a rubbish container. “Officers confirmed they were three limbs that could be those of a woman shortly after. detectives identified

Breast Cancer Awareness

Successful event

October was international breast Cancer Awareness month and for the past 7 years this has been marked by Maria and the Pink Ladies and Panthers in collaboration with the management team at Zenia boulevard - and this year was no exception. the original date for the event was to be Friday 22nd October, but unfortunately the heavy rain on that date prevented this from happening and the event was moved to Wednesday 27 October. the boulevard raised €500 with members of the public walking a total of 50 kilometres on a treadmill provided by decathlon. the boulevard management team

also donated hundreds of potted plants to be given to shoppers at the Centre by the Pink Ladies and Panthers. the Pink Ladies received an unexpected visit to their stand by the Mayor of Orihuela Emilio bascuñana. Charity head and AACC Orihuela Costa President Maria Wilson said the Mayor was very pleasant and ‘acknowledged every one of the Pink Ladies and Panthers’. the Mayor congratulated the volunteers on all the good work they do, and even had a go on the treadmill before posing for photographs with Maria and the Pink Ladies and Panthers. Once again, the event was supported by local performers

who entertained the boulevard shoppers, this included: Grip, Alex tipping, holly hepburn, Leroy Morales, Simon Jackson MbE, and Lex. the dotty band was provided by r&L Entertainment and the whole day was presented by Simon Morton of Sunshine FM. More than 1,300€ was raised on the day, all of which will be handed to the AACC cancer charity for the Alicante region to help in the fight against the disease. Mari Wilson said: “Early detection saves lives, so call into our office at Flamenca beach C.C or get in touch on 865942795 or email to info@pinklades.es to book your early screening tests.”

a possible suspect filmed on CCtV and arrested him in the street around 8.40pm on thursday night. “A search of his home subsequently took place which went on into the early hours of the morning and more human remains were found. “the Civil Guard is subsequently carrying out an exhaustive search of different transport points and waste residue plants in the province to try to collect more evidence that helps piece together everything that has happened here.” the spokesperson added: “the body appears to be that of the partner of the detainee, a Finnish woman aged 68 who had lived with the suspect since February of this year. the suspect is a Finnish man aged 70 who is facing a homicide charge.” Guardia Civil investigators are trying to clarify how the woman died and are searching for the tool used to amputate the limbs. One of the possibilities is that the suspect used a saw to dismember his partner, but details have not yet transpired as to whether the tool used

was located in the suspect’s home. it is also not yet known if the suspect has confessed. From the remains found so far, it has been discovered that the victim had suffered stab wounds. Once the head and the rest of the body are located, the exact cause of death will be confirmed. the suspect was arrested and charged with homicide but a crime of gender violence could be added to this once the victim’s identify is confirmed by fingerprints or dnA. So far

everything points to her identity being that of the man’s 68 year old partner. A Finnish citizen with children from a previous relationship, believed to have lived with the man since February in torrevieja. reports also indicated that the suspect was reported for mistreatment by another woman in the past but he was acquitted. A minute’s silence was held in front of the town hall in memory of the victim, led by the Mayor Eduardo dolon and deputy delegate of the provincial Government in Alicante, Araceli Poblador. Araceli Poblador told the press that the alleged murderer and his partner had resided since earlier this year in the house where the crime was committed. She also pointed out that although there were no previous complaints of mistreatment between the suspect and the victim, the detainee had a history of alleged gender violence with a previous woman. however, the man was acquitted of this previous complaint.

First case of Delta Plus variant detected

health workers in Elche have detected the first case of the delta Plus variant of covid in the Valencian Community. the Ministry of health was informed of the first case of delta Plus variant, detected by Elche General hospital, on thursday. this variant is said to be between 10 and 15% more transmissible. that the case was detected in Elche does not necessarily mean that the variant was found in one of the five cases of covid admitted to Elche General that day. Elche is home to one of four sequencing labs in use by the Foundation for the Promotion of health and biomedical research (ViSAbiO) in the Valencian Community. the lab evaluates cases to identify different strains of the virus as part of a wider vaccine study. Samples are evaluated from patients at Elche hospital, but other health centres in the Alicante province also send samples there if, for example, a variant is suspected or a patient is not responding to treatment

which could be an indication of a new variant. On thursday, the day the delta Plus case was detected, five patients with covid were admitted to Elche General – two to a ward and three to iCU. however, data protection protocols prevent information being shared as to whether the variant was detected in an Elche patient or in a sample from elsewhere in the province. Meanwhile, health experts have warned that half a million unvaccinated people in the Valencian Community could become a serious problem for the health system, warning of a potential collapse if a sixth wave of infections takes place. dr. Francisco Jover, a specialist in infectious diseases at the Sant Joan hospital, strongly recommended that the remainder of the population get vaccinated “because the virus is going for everyone and, while there are unvaccinated, it is difficult to maintain immunity.”

After speaking with thousands of local home sellers over the last 3 decades, it’s apparent there are 4 categories of vendors. Falling into the wrong category could jeopardize your chances of selling your property. discover quickly which type of vendor you are and triple your chances of achieving a sale. here are the 4 categories: 1. the emotional seller - “i must like my buyer, as i only want to sell to someone that will appreciate the blood, sweat and tears i’ve put into this home.” 2. the price setter - “i don’t care who buys, as long as they pay my price!” 3. the waiter - “i’m not in any hurry to sell, and if no one wants to meet my price, then i’m quite happy to wait!”

4. the realist - “i want my property sold for the best price, but also understand i have to be sensible when it comes time to negotiate.” Which category would you put yourself in? bad news if you recognize yourself as being in categories 1, 2 or 3. the market isn’t strong enough to be an emotional seller, a price setter or even a waiter. Selling a home as a “realist” means they appreciate the current market condi-tions. they understand that attaining the best price will happen as long as they are sensible when it comes to their asking price and negotiating an offer. hold-ing out for a buyer they like, a price that’s too high or someone that doesn’t even exist will decrease their chances of a sale, dramatically. triple your chances of selling by changing these three things: Your mindset - Change your way of thinking and become “the realist.” Your emotions - this is a business deal, so keep your emotions out of it. Your price! Look at what’s selling around you. Making a price adjustment will make a huge difference. Price fixes everything! For expert guidance on selling your property, start by heading to www. Horse rescue charity needs new vehicle

the Easy horse Care Centre (EhCrC), rojales, is in desperate need of a new vehicle to pull the horse trailer and enable the charity to continue to rescue equines in Spain – and is asking the local community for help. its 25-year old nissan has done a fantastic job over the years and has rescued more than 180 abused or abandoned horses, ponies and donkeys since 2008. however, it is now on its last legs, parts are continuously breaking and it spends more and more time in the garage. the windows are stuck, the lights and brake lights are failing, it has problems starting and the electrical system is falling apart. it’s only a matter of time before it won’t run at all. Charity co-founder rod Weeding said: “it is a constant struggle to keep the nissan working; it gets more difficult to find replacement pieces in scrap-yards and they don’t manufacture these parts anymore due to it being such an old vehicle. We are extremely worried that it could break down at any time, leaving us unable to collect animals in need or take them to the Alicante horse hospital in case of an

emergency.” Another major problem is that due to the vehicles old age, the nissan has got a high emission rate. this means that the EhCrC is no longer allowed to drive in certain parts of Spain. For example, it wouldn’t be able to transport a sick animal to barcelona where the charity works with one of the more qualified equine surgeons in Spain, Gasper Castelijns, who has saved the lives of some of its more severe cases. the charity is in desperate need of a robust second-hand 4-wheel drive able to pull a two-place horse trailer and big

enough to transport everything we need: horse feed bags, wood-shavings, construction materials, etc. Second-hand vehicles at local dealers are priced at around 11,000e to 15,000e EhCrC is a small, grassroots, non-profit charity and receives no government funding. it can only continue rescuing horses, ponies and donkeys and pushing for better animal welfare laws in Spain through the generosity of people. For further information or to arrange a donation call 0034 652 021 980 or Email: rescue@ easyhorsecare.net

German driver dies in Pilar traffic accident

A 66-year-old German driver died on Wednesday afternoon after he was involved in a traffic accident on the n-332 road as it passes through Pilar de la horadada. the Emergency Services

Centre was alerted at 5:10pm at the accident at kilometre 41 of the n-332 and a SAMU ambulance and a basic Life Support vehicle were dispatched to the scene. however, the SAMU paramedics

the local government of Orihuela has once again offered the Ministry of health a plot of land for a second health Centre for Orihuela Costa. the land offered is located in La Ciñuelica, near Los Altos. the council first made this offer in

August 2020 and claims it still has not received a response from the regional government. the local councillor for health explained that the current health centre is at saturation point due to the increased population and is too small for

the number of professionals who work there. the Orihuela City Council has also asked the Ministry of health to extend the SAMU ambulance service so that the Coast has dedicated and permanent 24hour ambulance provision.

What Are Fund Fees? By Tracy Storer Senior Partner Chorus Financial

it’s easy for me to pick up a pension or investment portfolio and quickly determine what fees someone is paying. Often fees can be hidden or layered and if not explained correctly (or even at all), can become very confusing and have a big impact on the growth of your portfolio. in my personal experience, the most common fee that Financial Advisers have failed to highlight to their clients here in Spain are the fund fees. Fund fees are fees taken from within the underlying investment funds themselves, and clients have no way of viewing these transactions on valuations or via their online accounts. Even though you don’t see these fees, you should always be aware of them as they can have serious implications on your potential returns. theUK financial regulator, the FCA, did some research a couple of years back and they found that the average fund fee is 0.75%. So, that is about 75p on every £100 you invest that you can expect to hand over in charges to the fund manager. but the variety of fees is incredible, and you can get two funds that are seemingly identical however one might charge you 2% and one might charge you 0.5%. So, it’s like going to the supermarket and there being two identical sandwiches. One costs £5 and one costs £1. Why would anyone pick the £5 sandwich, right? Well unfortunately when it comes to

financial advice, clients aren’t often provided with the full facts and unless you know where to look, or what to ask, it is easy to get confused. So how can the same fund cost you three times the amount? What are you paying the ‘extra’ for? in truthit is likely that some of the ‘extra’ is going straight to your financial adviser as a nice little pay out for recommending the fund, something that is now illegal in the UK but still happens regularly in Spain. to facilitate this ‘back-hander’ funds create different Classes of funds. An ethical and transparent adviser will go out of their way to find you the cheapest possible ‘Class’ of any fund to ensure you are paying as little as possible for the amount you are investing. Some advisers go out of their way to find the most expensive ‘Class’ to ensure they are earning as much as possible! don’t forget, these are exactly the same funds, with the same managers, holdings etc, some people are just paying a lot more for them than is necessary. it can be difficult to fully understandfund fees because there is so much terminology used. We can have the ‘AMC’, the ‘OCF’, the ‘tEr’ and the ‘tCO’. in case you’re wondering, that’s annual management charge, ongoing charge figure, total expense ratio and total cost of ownership. to save our clients any confusion we will always provide a document called

the Key investor information document (Kiid). Under updated regulation we are obliged to provide this document whenever we are making a fund recommendation, and this document uses the OCF – Ongoing Charges Figure – which confirms the true and total cost to the client of holding that fund. So, let’s look at how fees can eat into your money just to show why this is important. Let’s say bill & roger invest £50,000 in the same fund. bill invests in the one which has fund chargesof 1.5% per year and roger invests in the one which charges 0.5%. Let’s assume that this fund grows by 10% every year. After one year, bill would have paid £750 in charges and roger £250… Let’s look at it over the long term, 10 years, and we’re still getting this growth every year. So, that’s compounding the growth and the fees are also compounding on the other side. So, after 10 years, bill has paid £16,640 in fees. So, he’s going to get back £113,050 (growth over 10 years minus his charges) whilst roger, is getting back £123,910, because he’s only actually spent just over £5,000 on fees. roger’s investment returned an additional £10k, not because he’d taken more risk, or picked a better performing fund (both funds were identical). it was all down to him (or his adviser) choosing the fund which had the lowest costs.

You see bill’s fund would have made the same amount of money as rogers, but that additional £10,000 quite possibly went to his financial adviser! When you are receiving any sort of investment advice, it is imperative that you understand the full cost of each fund. You can do this by checking the Key investor information document (Kiid) for each investment that is being recommended to you. the Kiid is a twopage ‘fact-sheet’ style document which includes the critical information about a fund (including the true annual cost of the fund). the document aims to help investors understand the nature and key risks of the fund in order to make a more informed investment decision. Your Financial Adviser has a duty to provide this to you for each fund they are recommending, and you can also request these documents for existing investments in your portfolio, in case you feel compelled to double check! these documents must be available for all regulated funds in Europe, but we have experienced certain iFA firms in Spain making it very difficult for clients to obtain them… so don’t take no for an answer! if you have any concerns about how much you are paying in fund fees, or want a second opinion on any element of your finances here in Spain, contact Chorus Financial on info@ chorusfinancial.es, +34 965 641 163 or visit www.chorusfinancial.es for more information.

Investment contracts are intended as medium to long term investments, and all investments have some level of risk. Figures in our articles are examples of what can be achieved and cannot be guaranteed; the value of your investments can go down as well as up. Fees and charges can vary and will be fully explained to you before any advice can take place. This article should not be considered as investment advice or a recommendation of any particular product.

GBP / EUR UPdatE GBP the UK budget may have dominated conversation, but Chancellor rishi Sunak’s budget speech on Wednesday made no real difference to sterling. during the 63 minutes of the speech, the currency hardly moved. it’s fair to say the pound would have been higher on Friday morning if investors had been truly enthusiastic about the new taxation and spending measures. Overall it would be fair to say that the currency had an unsuccessful week. the pound was not humiliated; it was not a mile behind the north American dollars, but it lost an average of 0.5% and brought up the rear of the major currency field. Although it was not immediately obvious, last Friday’s disappointing retail sales data were largely to blame. they made sterling the day’s biggest loser and set a negative tone for the week. the provisional purchasing managers’ indices later in the day were really quite reasonable, touching three-month highs, but the damage had been done. A speech by Monetary Policy Committee member Silvana tenreyro made an argument for delaying any hike in the bank rate. it lost most of its bite, though, because Ms tenreyro is notoriously dovish. From sterling’s point of view the most important component was the economic outlook from the Office for Monetary

responsibility. it predicted that public borrowing would be £60 billion less than previously thought, sparking a gilt buying spree that sent government borrowing costs lower. EURO the euro’s week was shaped by the European Central bank’s Governing Council meeting on thursday. in summary; investors did not expect the ECb to change monetary policy and it did not do so, but after the event investors were still not convinced by the guidance. Ahead of the meeting ECb-watchers had identified a widening gap between the ECb’s repeated assurance of ultra-low interest rates for ever and the market’s belief that it cannot simply ignore above-target inflation. nevertheless, thursday’s statement stuck to the bank’s mantra that inflation will fall in 2022 as high energy prices and supply problems “fade away”. Ecostats from the Eurozone had negligible impact on the currency. the provisional purchasing managers’ indices were all lower on the month. At 54.3 the composite measure was a six-month low. the monthly EC survey identified a pick-up in economic sentiment, with slight improvements in consumer and business confidence. the euro was all but unchanged on average over the week; it added half a US cent and strengthened by half a cent against sterling.

Pulpí on the northern Almeria coast. discovered in 1999 by members of the Mineralogist Group of Madrid, it opened to the public in August 2019. Geodes are formations that arise in rocky cavities whose walls, over the centuries, have been covered with crystallized minerals projected inwards. After centuries hidden underground, this impressive cave at Pulpi is clad in countless plaster crystals that can reach two meters in length. its brightness and transparency, the perfection of its morphology and the optimal state of conservation make the Pulpí Geode a true landmark of nature and one of the best geodes in Spain in terms of its conservation and characteristics. to protect the crystals

from deterioration, a special system devised by Almeria University monitors visitor numbers, as well as controlling the temperature, humidity and CO2 levels. the trip will take place on 11th november and is priced at 50€. it includes transport by coach from local pick-up locations, lunch and entrance to the caves with an official guided tour in English. to reserve your place and arrange pick-up, call begona on 622 188 772.

Latest figures from the Spanish Government reveal 36% of UK Nationals in Spain have the Withdrawal Agreement TIE Just over a year since the Withdrawal Agreement tiE (tarjeta identidad de Extranjero) was launched, the latest figures published by the Spanish Government reveal that over a third of UK nationals in Spain now have the biometric card that explicitly recognises their rights under the Withdrawal Agreement. Commenting on the figures, hMA hugh Elliott said: “it’s great to hear that so many UK nationals now have the tiE and i’m sure that the next set of figures will show an even higher number. Whilst it’s still not obligatory to have one, it has become clear over the last 12 months that the tiE makes people’s lives easier. it’s more durable, more easily recognisable than the green residency certificate and it explicitly recognises your rights under the Withdrawal Agreement. What’s more, it really is a straightforward exchange process and we have a step-by-step guide to what you need to do on gov.uk. My advice would be to do it as soon as you can – we’ve seen instances where the green certificates are not recognised and, whilst we continue to raise such instances

with the Spanish authorities, a tiE has proven to be a more reliable option.” drawing on comments from its Facebook community (www. facebook.com/britsinspain) and results from a survey carried out with 6,500 UK nationals living in Spain, the british Embassy has identified the following top ten reasons to get your tiE. • It explicitly recognises your rights under the Withdrawal Agreement • It’s more durable • It’s easily recognisable – eg. at border crossings – as it follows the model established at European level • The process of exchanging your green certificate is straightforward and cheap (12€) (https://www. lamoncloa.gob.es/lang/en/ brexit/documents/GUidE%20 brEXit%20eng.pdf) • It is clear evidence of your immigration status • It will make some day-today administrative processes easier (eg. with your bank) • It should help to ensure you don’t get your passport stamped incorrectly • It contains biometric information, so is less easy to

fake • There are currently more resources available within the Policía nacional to facilitate the exchange • It can fit easily into your wallet – especially for those who have the older A4 green certificate if you are experiencing difficulties using your green certificate whilst waiting to exchange it for the tiE, do refer to the document provided by the Spanish Government to clarify its continued validity https:// www.inclusion.gob.es/ficheros/ brexit/nota_aclaratoria_green_ certificate.pdf. Until the end of the year, the UK Government is funding three organisations to provide support for UK nationals who may be having difficulties with the residency process, so do get in touch with them if you need any help. Who to contact depends on where in Spain you live. You can find their details and how to contact them at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/ uk-nationals-suppor t-funduknsf-applying-for-residency-ineu-or-efta-countries#spain

Tourist Fundraising fun finds 40 at Willow School kilos of hash on La Mata beach torrevieja Local Police were called to La Mata beach on thursday when a French tourist discovered more than 40 kilos of hashish washed up on the shore. the discovery was made near the old watchtower at around 2 in the afternoon. the man told police he had been enjoying a walk when he spotted several loose packages, wrapped in dark plastic stuck in and around the base of the old watchtower. the man immediately suspected that the packages might contain drugs and called the police. A unit was dispatched immediately and on arrival found that there indeed were drugs inside the bales on an area of the beach next to La Mata’s main square. Officers removed the packages, one of which was open, and took them away to be weighed and impounded. the Guardia Civil are now investigating the case.

Willow international School has been busy fundraising over the halloween period for APAnEE, the association helping children with special educational needs. As part of the halloween ‘Spooktacular’ each student paid €2 to come to school in fancy dress (or in the case of those “too cool for school”, simply dressed in their own clothes and not school uniform!). in addition, each teacher organised a special halloween game – such as guess the weight of the pumpkin – with special prizes. Children were also allowed to buy halloween treats, with all proceeds to APAnEE and to top it all off, the drama department staged a series of performances. drama teacher Mrs Ghost said “We chose to support APAnEE because of the wonderful work they do, because they work with

children it is a cause close to our hearts.” the event raised €300 and the children (and teachers!) had a great day. hot off the heels of such a successful charity event, the school is busy planning a festive fundraiser for Christmas so watch this space for details!

Flu jab and covid booster for over 70s

CostaBlancaPeople 2nd - 8th November 2021

A message from Cardenal Belluga Theatre Group

“it is time that we shook off the disastrous elements of the last two years and pulled ourselves together and look forward to a better and brighter future.

the Valencian Community will begin to administer the annual flu vaccine next week. in the case of those over 70 years of age, it is planned that the third dose against COVid-19 will be given at the same time. this approach has been recommended by health authorities, since six months have passed since they completed the double dose for this age group. Sources from the Ministry of health have explained that, as in previous influenza vaccination campaigns, those interested should make an appointment at their health centre through the usual communication channels. however, people should also be notified of their appointment through a phone calls or SMS text message.

With this in mind and because we need to get the brain cells working we are proposing to run some short comedy plays leading to what we are known for a variety show.

Local domestic abuse survivor turns Bestselling Author Local expat Claire Atyeo became a bestselling author in a collaborative publication aimed to help empower women. released earlier this month, the book shot to no 1 bestseller in eight categories, over three continents. titled Aligned Leaders: Sage Wisdom from Women Choosing their Soul’s Mission Over Societal Expectation with no regret, the book features the authentic stories of 22 fearless and inspiring women. Atyeo became a coach following her healing journey from emotional abuse. having endured three n a rc i s s i s t i c

relationships, the prolonged stress, anxiety, and panic attacks adversely affected her health, resulting in her being forced to close her business. domestic abuse is a pandemic few are willing to address, in which its victims often suffer in silence for years. A women’s survey conducted by the EU Agency for Fundamental rights (FrA) shows statistics of physical, sexual, and psychological abuse within past or present relationships standing at 22%, with a staggering 43% reporting psychological abuse. Following the Covid pandemic, these statistics are reported to have increased by 2.3% w i t h i n Europe.

Continual abuse is known to cause CPtSd a condition commonly experienced by active s e r v i c e personal and trauma bonding, meaning the victim’s mind

is so traumatized it confuses fear with love. Often the abuser is so subtle in their delivery that they publicly administer abuse, with friends and family considering it to be a joke, especially when followed by a false gesture of endearment. Claire moved to the Costa blanca in 2007 from Somerset, England, and quickly became a valued member of the expat community, establishing a successful nursing service for the expat elderly and terminally ill – ensuring dignity in death. however, in her private life, she was far from valued, her popularity created jealousy and controlling behaviour from her partner. “i had spent my whole life being of service, it was hard for me to take time out and focus on myself, and for a long time i felt totally lost, powerless, i lost everything. i was ashamed, broken, and thought myself weak-minded. but it was through those challenges i found a way to make the experiences mean something, by turning it on its head, negative into positive! And, if i can do it, anyone can,” said Claire. Specializing in Female Empowerment Coaching, Shamanic practices, and Energy healing, Atyeo has built a considerable social media following and runs her business as an online enterprise. She explains it best herself when she

says, “My motivation is to help other women experiencing oppression of any kind, we should not be afraid to speak out, there is no shame and we are nOt powerless!” Within her coaching, she heavily focuses on helping women to break generational/societal conditioning and co-dependent behaviour, which creates dysfunctional relationships, lack of confidence, and self-love for many women. When asked what the aim of the

book was, Atyeo said, “the book aims to help as many women as possible to develop a solid foundation of inner confidence. My contribution focuses on the essential necessity to learn and practice selflove. i’ve experienced firsthand the negative impact that low self-esteem and the destruction of confidence can have on someone’s life. i and my co-authors wanted to create a fun, interesting, yet informative book that gives women the tools and strategies to deal with life’s challenges in a positive way.” the book is published by divine destiny Publishing and is available on Amazon with all profits going to charity. https://www.amazon.es/ Aligned-Leaders-ChoosingSocietal-Expec tation- ebook/dp/ b09hPXKFWW/ For more information on Claire Atyeo visit her website at http://www. claireatyeo.com Contact her: info@claireatyeo.com Or follow her Fb or insta @ ClaireAtyeo.Athena

Coleen Nolan ‘jealous’ of Judi Love being on Strictly Coleen nolan has admitted she is “jealous” of fellow Loose Women star Judi Love getting the opportunity to perform on Strictly Come dancing. She was speaking to Christine Lampard – who is covering for Lorraine on the itV morning show – when she made the revelation. the 56-year-old said she was “thrilled” for her co-star Judi Love being able to take part in Strictly Come dancing. but Coleen has been desperate to appear on the show for years and said it’s on her bucket list. Christine, 42, even admitted the Loose Women team have had a campaign “for many years” to get Coleen on the show. Coleen said: “do you know what it’s the only thing on my bucket list. Always has been, always will be until i die, is to do Strictly. “i am so thrilled for Judi and she’s doing so well. She’s doing brilliant, she’s loving it. “We’re all her biggest fans but i am a little bit jealous because she’s just doing something i’ve always wanted to do and they just won’t have me Christine!” the singer – known for being part of the irish-born girl group the nolans – was on the itV morning show to talk about her new book Live. Laugh. Love: Lessons i’ve Learned, which is out now. host Christine Lampard joked with Coleen that she hadn’t received a mention in the book despite some of the fellow Loose Women co-stars being mentioned. Christine said: “i see ruth Langsford gets a big mention in there, branda Edwards gets a mention in there.

“i have been flicking through and i carried on, i just couldn’t see my name. i’m guessing it’s been kept for the sequel but i just thought maybe there might have been a mistake?” Coleen jokingly replied: “Christine i’m very very upset because they cut your name out. i don’t know why. it was in many chapters. “You know what it is, you were off on maternity leave when i wrote that book and you know out of sight out of mind. “You didn’t keep in touch with me, i still haven’t held that child so you’re not getting in my book.” Christine laughed: “i must try harder!” “You know i love you.” Coleen added.

Tiger King 2 netflix have released the first trailer for tiger King 2. the trailer offers a first glimpse at the follow-up to the 2020 cultural phenomenon documentary series about private big cat owners in the US. it shows calls with Joe Exotic from prison, as well as further exploration of the rivalry between the imprisoned zookeeper and his nemesis, animal sanctuary owner, Carole baskin. Exotic was imprisoned for hiring a hitman to assassinate baskin, who has accused the directors of “falsely portraying” her. the teaser also reveals that the show will premiere on the streaming service 17 november. While baskin is shown in the trailer, she has previously said that she is not involved in the sequel. “i don’t know how they put out a

tiger King 2 when Joe Schreibvogel’s [Joe Exotic] in jail and i’m refusing to be played again,” she said. “[Co-director] rebecca Chaiklin said she wanted to ‘clear the air’ about what they did to me in tiger King. i told her to lose my number. there is no explanation for such a betrayal and false portrayal.” baskin has been particularly outraged at the insinuations the show makes regarding the death of her second husband, don Lewis. tiger King explores numerous conspiracy theories that she was involved in his disappearance, with the trailer for tiger King 2 appearing to look even further into this idea. Several cast members will be returning for tiger King 2, including Jeff Lowe, tim Stark, Allen Glover, and James Garretson.

Return of popular Gogglebox star Amy tapper has hinted she may be about to make her long-awaited return to Gogglebox. Amy and her family were a part of the original cast of the popular Channel 4 programme when it debuted in 2013. the tappers invited viewers into their home and established themselves as firm fan favourites with their hilarious observations on the week’s best tV. the original line-up included the full family of mum nikki, dad Jonathan along with children, Josh and Amy. Josh departed to pursue a career in politics in 2018, before the rest of the family announced they would no longer appear on the show earlier this year. however, the 21-year-old has now revealed in a Q&A with her followers that the door may still be open for the north London family to return to the programme. during an instagram Live with her fans, the reality tV star said she could return for the show’s 10th anniversary special. Amy offered up the information after a fan quizzed: “Would you go back on Gogglebox? Miss you guys x.” She replied: “For now i don’t think so but i think next year or the year after is the 10th anniversary of Gogglebox so who knows. Maybe we’ll come back for a cheeky series.” Gogglebox first aired in March 2013 so the 10th anniversary would be in 2023.

Churros season

Despite its Mediterranean diet, wealth of home-grown fruit and vegetables and plethora of Michelin-starred restaurants, Spain is not all culinary virtue – in fact, one of the nation’s most-famed snacks, churros, probably has near-zero or even minus nutritional value and makes up for this deficit in saturated fats and refined sugar. Warm, tempting, filling and a hedonistic pleasure, churros are slowly catching up with paella, tortilla, and chorizo as the mostlikely Spanish-style foodstuffs to be found, or copied, outside of Spain. Made from doughnut-like batter, but long and thin and swished into loops when they come out of a spout, deep-fried and coated in enough sugar to wipe out an entire cane plantation, then served up in a paper cone to absorb the

grease and eaten whilst still hot, churros are one of the upsides of the colder months. Traditionally, they are dipped in a small pot of a chocolatey sauce of a custardlike consistency flavoured with chocolate and which, if you’re tempted to re-enact the experience at home, you can buy in litre cartons from most supermarkets and heat up on the stove or in the microwave. The delights of churros are now spreading across Europe. In Poland El Tesoro Café in Krakow - a Spanish name, which translates as ‘The Treasure’ -dishes up churros with garnishes of Nutella chocolate spread, whipped cream, Belgian chocolate, hundredsand-thousands, crumbled Oreo cookies, almonds, coconut, M&Ms, walnuts, and even a few, similar vegan options. But these are not even the most creative;

you can get churro sandwiches and churro milkshakes at El Tesoro. Rather than being two slices of bread or a split baguette-half filled with churros, the churros actually are the bread, and the filling can be a mix of fondant, batidam or sticky, flavoured cream, chocolate, or other types of gooey delights. Churros are not a delicacy, they’re simply a high-calorie, ultra-sweet junk-food fix you eat with your fingers or a plastic or wooden fork whilst traipsing from big wheel to tombola and from big dipper to throwa-hoop-over-the-teddy-bear stalls. With winter looming the churros trucks will be out in force, so if you’ve never tried this winter warmer, now is your chance. Your stomach and happy hormones will be delighted, your arteries may not.

Cadbury’s launch chocolate orange Yule Log Chances are if it’s Cadbury, we’re going to be all over it... including the brand’s latest festive treat - a chocolate orange yule log! Spotted online via New Foods UK on Instagram, the new chocolate yule log serves up to eight people and comes with a chocolate orange flavoured filling and sauce, covered with milk chocolate and sprinkled with a light sweet dusting. Perfect if you need a quick

(and tasty) chocolate fix and great if you’ve got any festive dinner parties coming up, this yule log pretty much sums up our love for all things chocolate orange. We will be scouring Iceland and Tesco in coming weeks hopeful that the

newly released treats will be weaving their way to the Costa Blanca.

Scientists find harmful chemicals in fast foods Hormone-disrupting chemicals, associated with adverse health outcomes, are abundant in meals available at popular American fast food restaurants, says a new study that calls for regulatory measures to reduce exposure to these compounds. The scientists, including those from the George Washington University, assessed 64 samples of fast food meals from restaurants for 11 chemicals such as phthalates and other substances starting to be

used as replacements to these compounds. Phthalates, widely used to give plastic and other substances flexibility, also mimic and tend to interfere with the body’s natural hormones such as testosterone and estrogen, previous research has shown. Earlier studies have also noted that pregnant women’s exposure to phthalates could alter the cognitive outcomes in their infants, as well as increase the children’s risk of health conditions like asthma

and obesity. In the new study, researchers found that 81 per cent of the food samples had a di-n-butyl phthalate (DnBP) and 70 per cent also contained di(2ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) — both linked to fertility problems. The sampled food included hamburgers, fries, chicken nuggets, chicken burritos, and cheese pizza, from outlets including burger shops, pizza chains, and a Tex-Mex restaurant.

It’s been a long couple of years since we last saw our family. So, my wife and I invited our two sons and their partners over to see us next summer. We know things are tight for them, so we offered to pay for their flights, all four of them. Our place is plenty big enough for them all to stay comfortably, and we have a lovely garden and pool; we would also pay for all

the food and eating out. Things went quiet for a while, and then amazingly, our eldest son said he wouldn’t be able to come unless we made sure there was a good enough computer system at the villa for him to be able to continue with his work while they were here. He was almost suggesting that we buy a new one, and get better wifi, and that he wouldn’t be coming otherwise. Then,

our other son piped up to say that they would need paying for Covid tests. My wife and I thought we were being generous enough in the circumstances, and are very upset at our boys’ greed. So, we said we would make the journey to see them at Christmas, and stay at a Hotel, but now both sons have said they are going away! You have made generous offers and neither of your sons have accepted. They appear

to be greedy and ungrateful, and perhaps they are, but that it for them to think about. If I were you, I would make arrangements to have a good Christmas yourself, perhaps go away, and also arrange a trip away for yourselves for next Summer. If neither of your boys mention the free holiday proffered by you and your wife, let them see that you are not sitting pining and waiting for them to turn up.

Euro NCAP to include system to detect minors Starting in 2023, if a new car wishes to obtain 5 stars from Euro NCAP, it must include the Child Presence Detection System (CPD) as standard. This is stated in the new protocol developed by Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Program), the European program that assesses the safety of new cars, supported, among others, by governments, manufacturers, and automobile clubs. The CPD is a device that detects the presence of a child in their child seat or in another seat and sends an alert to the mobile phone of an adult responsible when the driver leaves the car. Starting in 2023, Euro NCAP will recognise the device especially focused on children under 3 years of age (those who show a greater risk). By 2025, the protocol will be revised again to include those over 3 years old who are also locked in the car. CPD requirements The new Euro NCAP protocol wants to prevent minors from being locked in a car, either intentionally or unintentionally. For this, the CPD device must meet a series of requirements: Detect the presence of a child and send different alerts to be able to intervene in an emergency. Take into account all the probable positions of the minor within the passenger compartment of the vehicle: all rows of seats, optional and removable seats. Starting in 2025, the presence of a child in the driver’s seat and other areas such as the boot or behind the back of the rear seats will also be analysed. Make it standard equipment Deactivating the system will be allowed, but it will reactivate automatically when starting the next journey. The alternatives of the system to intervene in an emergency will also be evaluated: calling through the eCall system (mandatory in new cars since 2018), unlocking the doors so that you can get out or reducing the interior temperature.

A breakthrough For AESVi (Spanish Alliance for Child Road Safety), Euro NCAP’s decision is very positive. In this sense, Joan Forrellad, general secretary of AESVi and director of Research, Development and Design of Jané Group), has underlined how important it is to never leave a child unattended in a vehicle: “Even if it is a few minutes, such a situation can be fatal due to the minor’s inability to get out of the vehicle by themselves and a lower tolerance to high temperatures.” how to act when we have an accident with children During European Mobility Week, the Spanish Alliance for Child Road Safety (AESVi) recalls how we should act in the event of a traffic accident with minors. First, they underline how important it is to shorten rescue times and receive good care during the accident. Juan Manuel Cervantes, member of AESVi and founder of the Traffic and Emergency Rescue Association (ARTE), assures that “the quality of accident management by the parents will produce short and long-term benefits for the child. By instinct If there are no serious injuries, the parents get out of the car and take the child in their arms without thinking that he has suffered the same accident as them and that we may be harming them.” never move the child From AESVi, they remember that the child cannot be moved until the medical teams arrive and assess their condition. In addition, they recommend the use of

In addition, they have put together a list of tips: Follow the PAS protocol (Protect, Warn, Help). • If possible, park the vehicle in a safe place, activate the hazard lights and wait for help to arrive. • Keep calm. • Do not move the child to avoid causing new injuries that affect the spine. • If there is bleeding, pack the wound and press with the hand until rescue arrives. • Lightly cover the child, even if it is summer, to avoid losing heat (always without overheating the skin or making the child sweat). • Do not give food or drink or medication. • Remain by the child’s side at all times until emergency services arrive. • After a major accident, replace the child seat (SRI) or have it checked by a specialist. 17 minors killed on the road in 2020 Last year, 17 minors lost their lives in a road accident. rojales walking netball club Tuesday, 19th October was the Inaugural session of Walking Netball in Rojales. This initiative began when Penny from the U3A approached Claire and Tracey (who play ‘regular’ netball for Rojales), and asked them if they would coach the ladies from the U3A. After several stumbling blocks, one being Covid and another possible lack of numbers, it was agreed to open the Walking Netball up to non members of the U3A as well. After a conversation with the Sports Councillor of Rojales, Pedro, who gave the go ahead it was all systems go. Tracey who has coached juniors in the UK many years ago and is a qualified Umpire and Claire who is well known for her infectious personality, drive and enthusiasm were the perfect candidates for the job of running this new Walking Netball Club. And what an achievement for the town of Rojales - they are not only the first Walking Netball Club in the Alicante Province but even the first in the Comunidad of Valencia and in fact only the second Club in the whole of Spain (Rojales being the only one currently running though as the other Club is temporarily suspended). Well done Rojales! So Tuesday night approached and Claire and Tracey were worried if anyone would turn up but they needn’t have as 21 ladies walked through the gates, raring to get started. The

youngest being 47 and the oldest 77. Claire and Tracey said “it was a great success with so much positive feedback from the ladies saying how much they enjoyed it, and that they can’t wait for next week to do it all again”. They continued by saying “we currently cannot take any more new ladies apart from those that have already registered their interest due to numbers but if anybody is interested in the ‘regular’ netball then get in touch”. Finally, Tracey and Claire would like to thank Pedro the Sports Councillor for Rojales for his continued support with the ‘regular’ netball but also now a massive thanks to him for enabling so many more ladies to enjoy netball albeit walking.

This is our eighth year of the forming of the society and the first competition we played for was the José Domingo Garcia Gallud Memorial Cup in memory of Antonio’s (Imanyo’s owner) younger brother who sadly died in a car accident 23 years ago. Eighteen players travelled to Bonalba where we were greeted by Richard and his staff. The course was in absolutely excellent condition from tee boxes to the greens, the weather was perfect for golf with temperature in the mid70s. The format was full handicap Stableford split into two groups. Winner of the José Domingo Garcia Gallud Memorial Cup was from group A, the unstoppable “Three Clubs” Sean McGuinness with another handicap cutting 41points, runner up in group A was Ken Waller also with another handicap cutting score of 40 points, group B winner with a handicap cutting score was Dave Goldsmith with 39 points, group B runner up was “Tricky” Rik Wood with 28 points. There were six

nearest the pins which were won by, holes4 and 8 “Fruit Man” Tom Goulden, holes 6 and 16 Ken Waller, hole 11 “fish Called Wanda” Mo Chaplin and hole 17 the unstoppable “Three Clubs” Sean McGuinness, best front nine on count back went to “5 Wood” Chris Houghton beating Dave Goldsmith with 21 points, best back nine went to Guess who? “Three Clubs” Sean McGuinness with 23 points, the Two’s pot of €25was not won. The presentation was held at Imanyo’s where Antonio and his son José presented the prizes on behalf of his family. Afterwards we finished with the usual good food and drink, thank you to Antonio, and all the staff for looking after us. The football card was won by Moira with Hull raising €40forourchosen charities of 2021. Not a good week for Elche CF! Zero points from a possible 6, but then Real Madrid was one of the opponents! On Tuesday evening Elche CF were in the Basque Country facing relegation zone placing Alaves, not an easy prospect especially as the home side were fresh from a victory against Cadiz. The Franjiverdes started well and dominated the opening minutes, but they soon faded as Alaves defended with determination. Casilla cleared a point blank header from Ximo Navvarro and Pacheco cleared a well placed shot by Lucas Boye. The second half started with an explosive Alaves whose Joselu would have scored in the opening minute had Casilla not been in the right place at the right time. However the resulting corner was to prove indefensible and the Senagalese midfielder Loum found the back of the net. The second highlight of the second half was a goal from Elche’s Guido Carillo, but this was very controversially disallowed. The referee reviewing the play via VAR arrived at the assumption that the Vitorian defender did not intend to touch the ball, making the play an offside one. Elche were left without a point and had to prepare themselves for facing the mighty Real Madrid just 5 days later. The crowed of 23,000 spectators filled over two thirds of the Martinez Valero to watch the world wide phenomenon that is Real Madrid. Although Benzema was missing, his absence was not that noticeable as Modric, Marcelo, Kroos,

Asensio, Hazard and Vinicius among others, all made an appearance. Both sides started well, but Madrid’s economy and efficiency were evident to see. Vinicius opened the scoring on the 22nd minute following a clearing error by Mojica. Except for the scoreline, the first half was very balanced with Elche being extremely unlucky and ‘fluffing the final’ kick on more than several occasions. Neither manager made any changes, which proved to be Escriba’s mistake as Guti picked up a second yellow and was sent off at 64 minutes. Real took full advantage of the gap this created in midfield. Modric thread the ball to an unmarked Vinicius for him to gain his second goal of the fixture. On the eve of Halloween Madrid committed a fatal crime. An extremely sloppy pass that Elche intercepted with a header towards the goal and a waiting Pere Milla. He was one on one with the keeper way off his line and the open goal mouth waiting to eat the ball! Despite the loss and the rain which fell in the final minutes, the Elche fans were smiling about their trickery and the resulting treat of a goal. The next home game will be against Real Betis on Sunday 21st November with a 18:30 Kick Off. The coach and match ticket package will be ready for booking on www.eurotourguide.com later this week.

taLes FroM tHe toP FLigHt Sean Dyche has been at Burnley for nine years now. Nine years people get less for armed robbery. In something that is absolutely 100% not a publicity stunt, the club announced that a former NFL player has bought a stake in the club, a guy also keen to pass on his knowledge of how to win. Well, whatever he said worked as Burnley notched up their first win of the Premier League season and Maxwel Cornet is the current holder of the “must be the best signing of the season, surely?” award - previously held by Demarai Gray.

n CHrIs dArweN chris@costablancapeople.com

Folks, as we slide into November’s DMs it is the time of year where I typically owe a few football clubs an apology. Already, a mere 10 matches into the Premier League season, there’s a bit of a list - so Crystal Palace, Leeds, Tottenham and more, humble pie is being served hot or cold. It is your choice. All the pre-match statistical chatter was around how Peppy G had managed to win something like 286 of his first 199 Premier League matches. Of course, that is mathematically impossible - but the way people were talking up his first 199 outings with a win % that has absolutely no correlation to the amount of money spent, you kinda knew what was about to happen when Palace took to the field. Ah yes, apologies. I might have suggested that Vieira might challenge Frank de Boer in terms of short Selhurst Park stays and it would appear I’m a little wide of the mark on this one. Vieira is now being talked up as the heir to Pep’s throne following their 2-0 win at the Etihad. Sure, it helps when Aymeric Laporte manages to increase the difficulty of the task ahead getting a red card on the halfway line for dragging someone down. We’ve all seen Palace score hundreds of goals, running in behind from the halfway line, rounding the keeper and tucking home, haven’t we? Yes, a definite goalscoring opportunity. Either way, Palace deserved their win - sure, City had a goal disallowed as well and Ederson will still be wondering how Zaha’s bobbler with his left went in but Palace were good value for all three points. One of the biggest questions post-match was how on Earth Chelsea will find space for Conor Gallagher next season? Crisis rarely hangs around too long in football as the baton is often passed along quite quickly. And so, at Tottenham’s wonderful ground which has basically cost them having a decent team, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer mixed it up and came up with a winning combination against Spurs.

Abbey Anglers On Tuesday 26th October we fished the 6th Round of the Winter series on the Rio Segura at Murcia Town Centre. After the recent rains and bad weather we expected condition to be anything but ideal but upon arrival we found both the banks and the river to be in decent condition. The weather was grey and overcast but we managed to avoid any rain that was definitely in the area. Winner on the day was the larger than life character, Richard´Tricky´ Wood. Drawn on the favoured peg one, near to the first bridge he took carp consistently on the method feeder with corn and bread for a great weight of 20.500kg.

Claudio Ranieri was disappointed to see Southampton beat his Watford side 1-0 at Vicarage Road. The Saints had one shot on target and one was all they needed - Che Adams curling it top bins to take the points. Ranieri was brought in to provide stability - well, the club have been bobbins, brilliant and now mediocre in his three outings so far. Mind you, the last time he lost to the South Coast side he got the boot from Leicester. You’d think that isn’t going to happen this time but, you know, Watford and all that.

The answer was going with a 70-yearold strikeforce, duh. Ronaldo and Cavani schooled Tottenham’s backline and Harry Kane successfully played Harry Maguire back into a bit of form. Nuno is on borrowed time at the Lane - taking off your brightest attacking spark when 2-0 down is never going to go down well with fans that still buy into the whole ‘to dare is to do’ guff. And Spurs fans, you are the second apology as pillorised Levy for not sorting Nuno out with the gig earlier when it was clear the likes of Conte weren’t coming. I’ve said it before, I know nothing. Nothing! Graham Potter magicked up a comeback at Anfield, seeing his Brighton team turn over a 2-0 deficit and leave Liverpool’s gaff with a point. If Spurs and United are still mulling over their managerial options, they really couldn’t do much better than offering Potter the next rung on his career ladder. Liverpool didn’t look perfect at the back at Old Trafford - it’s

In Second place, drawn at the other end on peg 19 was Mick Hill. He fished an orange wafter on the method feeder to take some nice size carp for 16.600kg. Mick was closely followed by his next door neighbour Nick Bastock who used similar tactics from peg 22 for 15.925kg. The pairs event was a very close run affair with the eventual winners Nick and Mick with 32.525kg. Rods n Reels The following day we fished the El Bosquet complex near to Crevillente. Again the recent rains have made the roads a little slippy but quite passable. Winner on the day and continuing his recent good run of form was Nick

amazing how scoring five can paper over some cracks - and Brighton took full advantage. Getting rid of Steve Bruce has certainly helped life at St James’ Park. Newcastle held out for over half a game before Chelsea took complete and utter control, their right-back scoring twice to become their leading Premier League scorer. Their second top scorer? Yeah, their left-back. Chelsea still top the table and yet nobody is really talking about them. Arsenal earn the third apology - it is possible I judged them a little too early and might have laughed a little too hard at them paying all that money on Aaron Ramsdale. They blew a Leicester side, clearly thinking about the extra hour in bed they were getting later, out of the water in the first 15 minutes at the King Power and then were grateful to their keeper for keeping them at bay. Ramsdale made save after save and it does feel like something is coming together for Arteta now.

Bastock. Nick was drawn on the new peg B1 and took a mixture of Carp and Mullet for 29kg on the pole fishing maggot and pellets. He was closely followed in second place with the one arm wonder Tony McMillan who took similar fish on the maggot for 27kg. In third place was the old master, Bill Reade. Bill was drawn on the other section on peg 30. He fished pèllet across and bread close in to take carp for 21kg. The pairs event was won by Tony McMillan and Mick Dixon with just over 46kg. Further details can be found on our website www.abbeyangling.es ian Brown

Norwich’s statement in the press midweek carried more punch than their performance against Leeds. The Canaries started a run of matches against teams they really need to win pretty poorly as a very average showing from Bielsa’s lot ended in their first away win of the campaign. Mind you, I can’t see many sides staying up with Teemu Pukki and Kieron Dowell as their front pair. The David Cameron derby certainly cranked up the pressure on Dean Smith. Dropping the skipper, Tyrone Mings, and being without Danny Ings didn’t have the desired outcome even if Ollie Watkins remembered where the back of the net was. West Ham were decent - Villa were not and it looked like VAR sent the wrong centre-back off. Hause gave Benrahma a proper elbow before Konza brought down Jarrod Bowen, only left-footed and going to his right - goal-scoring opportunity, you say? There was definitely a red in there somewhere, just the wrong player got it. West Ham well and truly fourth maybe Spurs should try and tempt the Moysiah?
