Access Community Trust promotes social inclusion for the community benefit by preventing people from becoming socially excluded, relieving the needs of those who are socially excluded and assisting them to integrate into society. The community cafes run by Access Community Trust across Norfolk and Suffolk were Highly Commended by the Third Sector Awards in 2020 and have continued to offer a high standard of support to the community. The Steam House Cafe has transformed a former ground floor eatery, which has been closed since the beginning of the pandemic, into a modern and welcoming space providing holistic mental health support to those in need within the local community. The new community resource complements the existing wellbeing offering already available from the charity’s existing multifaceted free support service called The Crossing, which is situated above the cafe and already supports a growing client base seeking support due to the pandemic and current cost of living crisis. Open Monday to Friday from 10am until 4pm, the cafe provides a safe, friendly space where members of the community are able to simply seek mental health guidance and support in a relaxed setting. Alongside this drop-in service, the fully trained team offer 1:1 appointments and a growing range of group activities including yoga, mindfulness, and arts/craft therapy. Gemma Bush, Regional Service Manager for Access commented, “We are delighted to be opening our third Mental Health focused Steam House Café in Thetford. We purposely choose a highly visible town centre premises because it is easily accessible to those seeking support and guidance. Mental Health is no longer a taboo subject and everybody should feel comfortable talking about it. By taking that important message directly to the high street and supporting the local community with a range of support and drop-in therapies, we have made it easier for people to
