ho else can’t believe it’s springtime already? It’s such a special time of year and in 2022 we all get to appreciate it so much more given the last two we’ve spent locked up! This issue we’ve got the usual blend of wedspiration from real weddings to expert advice and ideas including a look at some showstopping couple shots in our photography feature. We’ve also gathered together some of the region’s wise wedding suppliers who offer up their best tips for starting you out on your wedding planning journey. In our own wedding world here at CMW towers, bride Melissa has been turning her attention to her best gals and we’ve now got our dresses, if not in our hands then on order. It was a bumpy ride, but thanks to Melissa’s unending patience, we got there. We’re now looking at the even more fun stuff such as accessories, shoes, hair and make-up, which has led myself, my fellow bridesmaids and the bride herself to ponder the matter of just whose job it is to foot the bill for the glam? This in no small part is due to the fact none of us seem able to get the lovely Melissa to take one single penny from us towards it. So, when Fragrance Direct told me they’d teamed up with wedding planner Hannah Rose to discuss just this matter, I was all ears! Thinking about the glam bill, Fragrance Direct asked Hannah whether it was nearlyweds’ responsibility to pay for everyone or just themselves? She answered unequivocally, “Definitely everyone. If they’ve asked for people to be part of their day, the majority of the time this will fall to the couple to pay. Otherwise, their loved ones may be put off joining the wedding party. Some bridesmaids and groomsmen might be happy to contribute, but it’s always encouraged that the couple plan this into their budget and offer to pay for the basics such as hair and make-up if they want them to have it done. The cost will vary depending on the hair stylist and make-up artist, but I’d advise to allocate a minimum of £150-£200 per person for anyone who isn’t the bride or groom.” So, there we have it. We shall immediately cease arguing with the bride and accept her kindness gracefully. Enjoy and keeeep planning!

WINNING WAYS What a great start to 2022 the team at Celebration Roadshow had! Having won The Wedding Industry Awards’ South West regional title six times previously, the icing on the cake came as they were announced this year’s national winners at the gala held recently. These are the only awards in the industry voted for by the nominees’ own clients, so to win one is a real stamp of approval. Phill Makepeace says, “We put our heart and soul into our work as wedding DJs so winning the national award is a fantastic achievement for the whole team.” Music is, of course, vital to a wedding celebration. Having a DJ who can read the room and get the party going makes a huge impact, ensuring the evening bash is memorable for all the right reasons. Phill continues, “We love being part of a couple’s big day and this award helps us demonstrate the level of service we provide. The recognition we have received from our couples shows that we’re trustworthy and skilled. It makes all the hard work and dedication worth it.” Find out more about Celebration Roadshow at www.celebrationroadshow.co.uk

Wedding cake maker Emma Whitehead has an interesting and inspiring story to tell when it comes to the reason she set up her charitable business. “I started baking for charity in a more focused way in November 2016 as I had a ballot place in the 2017 London Marathon and wanted to raise money for five charities close to my heart and my husband’s: Great Ormond Street Hospital, JDRF, Mariposa Trust, Miscarriage Association and Tommy’s,” she explains. Over the five years the page was open she’d raised an incredible £8,754 (£10,247 with Gift Aid). She then decided to start raising funds for new charity, Bowel Cancer UK, in memory of a dear friend who sadly lost her battle with the disease. Emma regularly invests in her skills and techniques, makes sure she’s insured, keeps her food hygiene and safety qualifications current, and notifies the local EHO that she bakes. As a venture outside of her full-time job, she gives her time, ingredients and materials, and her customers donate via her charity page. She continues, “I bake pretty much anything, but being trusted to make a wedding cake is always extra special – such a privilege although a little nerve-wracking!” Follow Em’s Charity Bakes and Cakes at www.instagram.com/ems_charity_bakes_and_cakes

SOMERSET-MADE SKINCARE The zero-mile concept is going beauty. Just like the farm-to-table concept relating to food, beauty is adopting the ethos and ensuring every step of the supply chain is local. This means growing, formulating, manufacturing and packaging all in one place, wherever possible. Lyonsleaf, The Republic of Natural Skincare, has employed the concept since opening, growing some of its ingredients on its Somerset-based family farm. Founders Ben and Vicky Lyons are committed to creating affordable, natural and active skincare with sustainability at the forefront of their minds. Vicky says, “Our products are 100 per cent recyclable – we’ve even switched to using paper packing tape. We try to produce as little waste as possible and any we do produce is virtually all recycled. We’re proud that nothing from the business goes into landfill.” All Lyonsleaf products use calendula as the main power ingredient, a herb that has been used traditionally for hundreds of years to sooth inflammation and promote healing. Cult products include The Beauty Balm, Zinc & Calendula Cream and Natural Body Butter. For clear wedding-day skin with a conscience, discover the brand for yourself at www.lyonsleaf.co.uk

abby worked with Ross’ sister in his local, but they didn’t exactly start out on the right foot – Gabby says, “I always thought he was quite rude and grumpy.” But when the two bumped into each other on a night out she actually found him to be funny, entertaining and very charming. So, when he asked her out on a date she accepted and explains, “I think his demeanour in the pub was just shyness as he’s the most caring, kind, polite, funny person you could ever wish to meet.” By the time the couple had been together for eight years, friends and family were beginning to wonder about a proposal. Significant dates or events would come and raise expectations before rolling past with nothing. “It became an ongoing joke that it just wasn’t going to happen and the more they mentioned it, the more stubborn Ross would become,” Gabby says. Every time the pair found themselves in an airport, Gabby would ask, “Are you going to propose on this holiday?” The answer was always, “No,” and Venice was no different. Little did Gabby know that Ross began scoping out potential places to pop the question as soon as they arrived. Eventually, he chose a quiet spot on a little cobbed street outside their hotel as they were heading out for dinner. Gabby remembers, “I’m grateful for his decision not to do it in front of people as my reaction was... interesting! I flapped my arms in disbelief and even sat on his knee crying.” They celebrated that night, and for the rest of the holiday, with copious amounts of pasta and Aperol Spritz. Read on as the bride tells us more about the big day, which went ahead on 14th August 2021 following a year’s delay due to Covid...
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION When Gabby and Ross started looking for venues they needed to take their huge families and friendship circles into account, viewing only venues that could accommodate such numbers. They’d settled on a summer wedding, since Gabby is a teacher this would work well with school holidays. But this did mean that they had to use some imagination when they saw Old Oak Farm in the winter. Gabby says, “The pole marquee they put up every year hadn’t been erected yet and it had rained constantly the week prior, so the field was a pool of mud and the trees and plants were bare, but we still fell in love. The outside bar, the marquee, the newly-installed luxury toilets, the oak tree where you have your ceremony and space to play sports were just some of the factors that attracted us. The family who run it are just the loveliest people as well.”
SETTING THE SCENE The couple wanted to incorporate their love of sport into elements of their venue styling and created a table plan painted in sage green and decorated with sport vectors designed by Gabby’s artist sister-in-law. With help from more talent in the family, Gabby’s other sister-in-law and graphic designer, she put the seating plans onto wooden clipboards and pinned them onto the board, headed: On your marks, get set, eat... The place names were attached to white luggage tags, which were tied around the napkins with twine. Meanwhile, the table names were all themed around sports the couple play or love, including hockey, golf, rugby, tennis, badminton and table tennis. Between the couple and their family they managed to save plenty of wine bottles to use as centrepieces and filled them with eucalyptus grown in Gabby’s garden, along with white tapered candles. More than 100 grey, green and white hearts on sticks lead the way to the aisle and candles in jars dotted around the venue lent the space a beautifully romantic atmosphere.
LOOKING THE PART Gabby wore a Martina Liana gown. She says, “I don’t like a lot of fuss on my clothes and my wedding dress was no different – it was very simple, 27

beyond. I honestly can’t speak about them highly enough. They were amazing throughout – flexible, attentive and with high standards in everything.”
The bride’s brother created three crazy golf games for guests to enjoy throughout the day. There were also plenty of lawn games such as skittles, giant Jenga and the families even participated in a lively game of cricket. Live band Tritones was a huge hit with everyone. Gabby says, “They were a bit different to normal wedding bands as they use backing music as well as their own playing, so they could play some alternative songs such as Billie Eilish, Drake and, the most memorable Freed From Desire, which had the dancefloor full.” Both dads joined the newlyweds during their first dance. Guests found this highly entertaining, not least because Ross’ dad was wearing a wedding dress!
MEMORABLE MOMENTS Gabby remembers, “I felt a lot calmer than I thought I would, but I was quite nauseous in the morning and struggled with my breakfast. We hired a minibus to get from my parents house, where we had our hair and make-up done, to a hotel just down the road from the venue. I had to sit in the front with the driver to contemplate my feelings and the day ahead. When we got to the hotel we chilled, had a glass of fizz and put our dresses on. “Ross felt excitement and relief that the day had finally arrived, it had taken a lot of planning and Covid caused a great deal of stress.”
THE GETAWAY Unfortunately the honeymoon to St Lucia had to be cancelled just days before the wedding. Gabby tells us, “Luckily, we booked the whole thing with Leyla at Not Just Travel and she took away most of the stress and angst.” Eventually, they were able to book another honeymoon to Crete.

S
ammy and Aaron met in 2015 while working at the same restaurant. They hit it off straight away and became good friends, but when Sammy left the job they fell out of touch. Happily though, two years later they found each other again and started dating. On holiday in Marrakesh, the pair booked an excursion to visit the waterfalls. Whilst there, Aaron offered to take a photograph of another couple who’d offered to do the same for them. Sammy remembers, “As we were about to have our photo taken, Aaron got down on one knee and popped the question. It was a total surprise and obviously I cried my eyes out and said ‘yes!’” Sammy and Aaron had their hearts set on a bright and airy summer wedding. They looked at a couple of venues, but as soon as they saw Elmhay Park, they knew it was the one. “We particularly liked that we could marry outside but there was plenty of cover in the Italian gardens, and that we had exclusive use of the venue,” Sammy explains. Join us for a peak at Sammy and Aaron’s beautiful wedding album and find out more about the big day from the bride herself... 33
My sister got married a few years previous and I was her maid-of-honour, so I’d already been through much of the process before. When she was dress shopping I found the most amazing gown that I knew I wanted to get married in, despite not even being engaged at this stage. Fast forward to my own quest for a dress and sadly the one I’d seen had been discontinued. But I sent a picture of it to Belle of the Ball Bridals and they managed to find me one that was near enough a perfect match. It was the first ever wedding dress I tried on and I instantly knew it was the one. I tried others on, but none of them compared. It was Jennifer Wren style PC8910.
Aaron was so keen to be married he said, “I do” too early.
My two bridesmaids wore the same style grey floaty dresses and we had six flowergirls who were all dressed in the same sparkly grey dresses, which worked well together with the bridesmaids’.
Aaron wore a three-piece Ted Baker suit, as did his groomsmen. But the groom’s waistcoast was white and patterned allowing him to stand out. Our theme was rustic and the colour scheme was lavender, which was reflected in all of the items I made, such as the order-of-the-day and table plan, so that everything linked together and matched. I really wanted the wedding to have a lot of personal touches and had a very clear vision of what I wanted for the day.

REAL WEDDINGS
We had a musician, Dan Foxton, who sang and played guitar. He played the whole day from welcoming the guests and the ceremony, right up until the bar closed. Everyone loved him and complemented his versatility and ability to lift the room.
We also had a caricaturist in the evening, Demonpen, who mingled with guests. His drawings were hugely popular and could be taken home as a memento.
I felt very nervous in the morning as I’d put so much into the day and wanted it to be perfect. After the ceremony though, I was able to relax and had the most wonderful day. I’ll cherish every moment, photos and video for the rest of my life. Aaron was a little bit stressed and nervous, but mainly excited and extremely happy. 35
“Make some time for the two of you. It happens in such a whirlwind that before you know it the day has gone.”
The whole day was exactly as we’d hoped it would be, but we’re extremely thankful that we were able to have all of our guests there without any restrictions, especially our fur babies Buddy and Willow.
All of our suppliers did an amazing job from the venue team, to our photographer and videographer who were so relaxed, keeping us comfortable while getting some brilliant images and footage.
Due to Covid travel restrictions we had a mini-moon in London straight after the wedding, so that we could get away and enjoy our first week as a married couple. A few months later we managed to get away to Tenerife for some well-earned sun and relaxation.

icky and Scott met while working at Stanwell House Hotel in Lymington. She was front of house, while he was a chef. “We spent up to 11 hours a day working together so we had to get along,” Vicky says. But their relationship was much more than that as they would go out together after work together and had just clicked. Vicky found herself drawn to Scott’s sense of humour. “He made me laugh every shift, and still makes me smile every day,” she tells us. Fast forward nine years and Scott knew it was time to propose. The couple had decided to go on a dog and baby walk one Sunday
afternoon and headed to Prior Park in Bath. Although it’d been raining, the clouds parted to reveal blue skies and as they crossed one of the Park’s bridges, Scott dropped to one knee and asked Vicky to marry him. “For us the venue was the most important thing,” Vicky explains. They were looking for somewhere that could sleep all of their guests as everyone was travelling from far and wide to be there. Widcombe Grange in Taunton fit the bill and the date was set for 12th June 2021. Read on as the bride tells us more... 39
Ever since I was little I dreamed of getting married beneath a bandstand after walking down the aisle to I’ll Be by Edwin McCain, just like in Cinderella Story, my favourite movie. So, when the time came I cried my eyes out as it was absolutely everything I dreamed it would be.
I tried on a few dresses, but when I put on my Morilee gown I knew it was the one. After I said ‘yes’ to the dress I took it off to look at the price, and it was only then I found out the style name was Vicky. It was fate.

We felt very excited about the big day as we’d done much of the planning ourselves. But Scott was still busy cooking on the morning of the wedding, so he was also a little stressed.

As your celebrant and wedding officiant I am devoted to creating meaningful and memorable ceremonies that celebrate who you are and what you hope to become together. With Soulmaking Ceremonies you are encouraged to reimagine the traditional wedding ceremony and create something truly unique. Choosing to create a bespoke wedding ceremony enables you to include your individual and collective dreams, inspiration and spiritual beliefs in a way that is relevant and authentic for you. Designing a wedding ceremony that is personal, participatory and held with care, love and intention is my speciality, as well as incorporating ritual and elements of the natural world to celebrate your connection with what you hold sacred. I welcome all faiths, genders and beliefs, holding an inclusive space for you and your guests to come together and share a profound experience of love that will infuse the rest of your day and future together. “Isla’s approach is thoughtful, intuitive and flexible. She worked with us to come up with the perfect order of ceremony, incorporating our ideas and suggesting rituals which would symbolise some of our goals as a couple. Our guests gave us fantastic feedback, even the most traditional saying it was the best wedding they had been to.” “She held the ceremony with such elegance and familiarity and conducted the ceremony with such gentle confidence and ease. From start to end we felt supported, loved and able to just be us. .”

WEDDING PLANNING
Local suppliers from various specialisms share words of wisdom to get your planning off on the right foot
LET PLANNING COMMENCE!
SAMANTHA SMART, WEDDING REGENCY www.weddingregency.com
We’re engaged! Now what? Tell everyone! All the family and friends will want to know and be part of the celebrations, no one will want to feel left out.
www.deanwardphotography.co.uk
Can we have a wedding planner to manage the day only? Yes! You can enjoy your day knowing everything is being cared for. You can plan and prepare everything yourself and we can manage it all for you. How can we make our big day totally us? Design your own wedding rings, choose a theme, plan the song list, personalise the invites and so much more. You can make every element totally you. What’s your top planning tip? Decide on a budget and stick to it. It’s so easy to overspend, but this is something a wedding planner would be able to help you with.
“WE DO”
AMBER PACKER-HUGHES, SOMERSET REGISTRATION SERVICE
www.somersetweddingservice.org.uk We’re engaged! Now what? Location, location, location! Finding your venue is the essential first step. You need a time and place pencilled in so we can book your registrar team. Our online directory is a great place to start, as it lists every single venue that can hold civil ceremonies in the area.
www.jamesandkerriephotography.co.uk
What is giving notice? It’s just as important as the actual wedding day, so don’t forget to do it! Giving notice of marriage or partnership is the essential face-to-face meeting with your local registrars, where you’ll take in your ID documents and start the legal process at least 28 days before your big-day. It does the same job as having your banns read in church. How can we make our big day totally us? Contrary to popular belief, civil ceremonies can be personalised. There’s only a couple of sentences you need to say to make it legal, so you can get super-creative with your personal vows and readings. You don’t even need to exchange rings if you’d rather not. How about necklaces, books or a handmade memento? We’re happy to tweak things to make it all the more you. What’s your top planning tip when it comes to the ceremony? Get your documents ready early. Expired passports, missing birth certificates or lost divorce papers are not something you want to discover the day before your notice appointment. There’s no shortcut to some of the paperwork, so make sure you have everything you need just in case you have to order new copies. 55

SARAH HACKETT, ROOKERY BRIDAL
https://topikki.co.uk
www.rookerybridal.co.uk
We’re engaged! Now what? You should be thinking about guest numbers before anything else as this will be the foundation for everything from here on in. The size and type of venue, your catering style, the number and type of invitations you’ll need and how you’ll eventually seat your loved ones – each of these will give you a budget starting point.
We’re engaged! Now what? In terms of finding your perfect dress, the more time you can give yourself the better, but there really isn’t a set of rules. The only thing to consider and remember is that gowns can take up to six months to arrive from the date of order. Don’t be disappointed, start sooner rather than later and if you find the one, don’t worry if it feels too soon – you love your gown and that won’t change. Dresses can be stored by most boutiques, so it’s not an issue.
How do I work out the seating plan? When it comes to stationery family dynamics can be a sticking point. You should think about how people actually get on with each other, and whether they could be seated next to each other, as well as whether you need or want to invite them and how they’ll impact your day. Once this has all been addressed you can plan who to send your invitations to and rest in the knowledge that seating won’t be an issue. Often couples don’t give the table plan a thought until they come to ordering it and then juggling it can be a stressful project. How can we make our big day totally us? These days there are no hard and fast rules, so anything goes. If you both have a hobby or lifestyle that you’d like to share, use that as inspiration for your stationery – let people see who you are. What’s your top planning tip when it comes to the stationery? Certainly for bespoke designs, but even for the Studio and Designer ranges, I’d recommend taking your free consultation early. Book your samples and sit with them for a while to see which options you really prefer. It will help you to feel sure that you haven’t rushed into making a decision, and it gives you time to ask your stationer any questions you might have. The more relaxed and organised you are throughout the planning process, the better day you’ll have.
56
When do I start shopping for my gown? The answer is: when you’re ready. In an ideal world that would be a year before your big day with a view to having ordered nine months in advance. This allows for shipping time, alterations and keeps you calm. Don’t panic if you don’t have that long – there’s always a solution and we’ll work hard with you to ensure everything is perfect. How can we make our big day totally us? Don’t compromise. If you want something different that says “us,” do it! This is a one-time opportunity to make your day as special as it can be. Think of the things that are most important and plan them. Make a list, don’t overfill the event, keep the numbers at a point you’re comfortable with and factor in time for yourselves too. What’s your top planning tip when it comes to the dress? Keep an open mind. If you become too caught up in the specifics of a dress or dresses you might just miss out on the perfect gown. Let the consultant help and guide you – they should know what they’re doing and they may very well surprise you.

SOMETHING SWEET
SARAH CHURCHILL, SARAH’S SUGARCRAFT www.sarahssugarcraft.co.uk We’re engaged! Now what? Decide on your budget and roughly how many guests you’d like to invite. Then, if you have certain venues and suppliers in mind, make contact. Most wedding suppliers have a two to three year diary open, especially if they’re popular. Also, start a notebook or Pinterest folder with any ideas and colours you like.
YOUR BIG-DAY BEST
KATIE DOWDING, KATIE P MAKEUP https://katiepmakeup.com
How can we make our big day totally us? Add some decorations to your cake that represent you, such as your initials, where you first met and/or hobbies you both enjoy.
Will I ruin my make-up if I cry? Simple, no. Trust in your make-up artist, this isn’t their first rodeo, they have heaps of experience. I’ve been in the industry for almost 10 years, I’ve seen it all. Products and techniques have changed over those years and I’m always learning, so I can provide the highest standard for all my brides. How can we make our big day totally us? You and your fiance are the priority, try not to put other people’s preference before yours. No one cares what great aunt Doris has to say about your dress, suit or whatever you decide is right for you. It’s your day, remember that. What’s your top planning tip when it comes to wedding make-up? Pinterest can be your best friend and worst enemy. I love a Pinterest board, who doesn’t? But not everything you see is 100 per cent realistic. I always recommend to come to the make-up trial with inspiration, but it’s also best to come with an open mind. What looks good on one person, doesn’t always look good on another. Try to bear in mind those natural make-up looks you see are usually airbrushed and are an unrealistic expectation.
www.samlanephotography.co.uk
www.withmylittlecamera.com
What’s your top planning tip when it comes to the big-day bake? If you want to go big but don’t want all that cake then opt for fake tiers. They’d be decorated to match the others so none of your guests would ever know.
www.facebook.com/tamilaphotography
How many tiers should my cake have? This will depend on how you’re serving it. Will it be after a three-course meal, as part of your dessert, or maybe you’re serving it alongside a buffet? This will all help to decide the size of the slice.
We’re engaged! Now what? Decide on a date and venue. Once those big decisions are made, it’s time to pick the rest of your suppliers and don’t hesitate in booking your faves. Get in there early as most suppliers take bookings 18 months in advance. If their diary isn’t open yet for that year, just ask to be added to their waiting list and you’ll be one of the first they’ll be back in touch with, so you can almost guarantee they’ll be available.

Henbury Lodge is an attractive Georgian mansion, Grade II listed building with beautiful gardens. The hotel has 22 bedrooms, 12 rooms in the main house and 10 rooms in the coach house. A restaurant, lounge, bar, and a garden room (under construction) which would be the perfect setting for small weddings. We are using a marquee while the garden room is being built. We are a family-run hotel and aim to offer a tailor-made personal service, working with you to ensure that every detail of your special day is catered for. A Marquee Wedding in the garden will also have the exclusive use of the main house and will need to take the 12 bedrooms of the main house for the wedding guests as part of the wedding package. The additional 10 bedrooms of the coach house will be available if needed. HOT TOPIC Stellar wedmin advice from those in the know
LOCAL FLAIR We adore Somerset and would like to have our wedding showcase the best of the region. How can we reflect this in our styling? With stunning countryside, characterful venues and a relaxed, welcoming feel, Somerset is an ideal place to get married. A great way to celebrate this in your wedding styling is to incorporate some of the produce and rich history offered by the region. For example, how about thinking local when it comes to your flowers? Somerset is becoming a major hub for British flower growers, with many small farms dotted throughout the region. These local growers offer a wide range of gorgeous seasonal blooms and foliage that are freshly cut and sustainable.
One of the most famous products of Somerset is cider. As a nod to this, why not consider including apples as part of a fruity, rustic tablescape or as part of a bespoke cocktail starring local Somerset cider brandy? Or perhaps consider barrels instead of cocktail tables, or as a statement cake table. Aside from its obvious rural charms, Somerset is also home to some of the most impressive Regency architecture in Britain, so why not channel your inner Duke and Duchess and feature some Bridgerton vibes. Consider opulently draped fabrics, vibrant Regency colours, trailing floral displays and dramatic tapered candles for a contemporary twist on this period look. Holly Allman-Lopez, www.ambiencevenuestyling.com
BEST WISHES We’d love a guest book as a memento of our day, but in our experience of going to weddings, no one ever wants to sign them! Do you have any suggestions? A guest book at your wedding is undoubtedly one of the best ways to capture personal messages from your loved ones. Although, long gone are the days where all of your guests are expected to leave a piece of advice for the newlyweds and simply placing your guestbook on your gifts and cards table is a recipe for finding it empty at the end of the night. Instead, you should task this to your photo booth provider! As a vintage photo booth supplier, Booth Nineteen includes guest books with all of our wedding packages. Having a physical photo to stick onto the pages of your book means friends and family are far more likely to leave their mark alongside it. Your photo booth attendant will manage this on the night and by having someone tasked with getting as many messages as possible you can be certain of a great selection of both heartfelt and hilarious wishes to read back through for years to come. So, don’t chance a book hidden away in the corner, make it part of the evening entertainment. Craig Cheber, https://booth19.co.uk

EXPERT ADVICE

SEASONAL BEAUTY We’re getting married in the spring and would love to incorporate some of the season’s finest flowers into our arrangements and bouquet. What would you recommend?
The law lists everything you can’t have at your civil wedding. You’re not allowed hymns or religious rituals for example, and readings from religious texts are forbidden. In fact, you’re not allowed to have any form of religious worship of any kind. With a celebrant-led wedding however, there are no restrictions. Your celebrant will work with you to make sure your beliefs and heritage can be included in your ceremony, whether you want a prayer or Genesis chapter 1 verses 26-28. Your wedding promises can also take into consideration your different beliefs. If you’re a Christian, you can “solemnly swear before God,” and your husband-to-be can make his promises according to his “heart and conscience.” A celebrant-led ceremony is so exciting and just as unique as you. Your celebrant will work with you to make sure it’s everything you want and includes any rituals, hymns or religious readings you wish. Make sure you have your wedding your way.
Grace Haskins, www.brambleandwild.com
https://theresafurey.mypixieset.com
YOUR WEDDING, YOUR WAY I’m a Christian, but my husband-to-be isn’t and we’re struggling to decide what sort of ceremony to have to make sure we’re both happy and feel married. Can you help?
Spring is the perfect time for weddings and there are so many flowers to choose from, it’s really hard to pick! If you’re tying the knot earlier in the season, then anemones and ranunculus are always firm favourites, but if you’re after something whimsical and a little bit different, then definitely take a look at butterfly ranunculus or Icelandic poppies. They’re papery and delicate and really make an impact without being heavy visually. Combine these with blossoms and it’s a winning combination. We also love unusual narcissi varieties such as Geranium for the scent – narcissi doesn’t just mean yellow daffodil anymore! There are some showy varieties with coral centres and frilly edges, so they’re perfect for adding a certain something. For a later spring wedding, I’d recommend peonies all the way. In fact, it should possibly be illegal to get married in late April or May and not have peonies! From the rich burgundy Buckeye Belle, which I had in my own wedding bouquet, to soft pink Mothers Choice, there’s a variety of tones to suit most spring palettes.
Jen Whitworth, https://jenthecelebrant.co.uk
THE TASTE OF SPRING We’re looking for light seasonal springtime flavours for our wedding cake. Do you have any recommendations? For a spring wedding, this can mean light sponges with citrus and floral flavours symbolising the growth of flowers and fruit, as well as the increase in sunlight. My Amalfi lemon and English elderflower signature sponge, or the slightly more classic Madagascan vanilla and English raspberry, are ideal choices for this time of year. In fact, springtime is a great season for cake flavours in general, as the weather is neither too cold nor too hot, which lends itself to a huge variety of options from carrot cake with Sicilian orange curd and matching Swiss merigne buttercream to red velvet cake with a light and creamy ermine buttercream. Of course, indulgent champagne cake is always in season! Organic floral arrangements in warmer and brighter shades can look especially lovely, whether in sugar flower form as I do, or with fresh flowers, paired beautifully with those light citrus and floral flavours. You might even experiment with the incorporation of a savoury flavour such as rosemary, to complement a wedding’s natural vibe. Emma Harvey-Egle, https://emmaateliercakes.co.uk 62

EXPERT ADVICE PLAYTIME We have a number of young guests coming to our wedding ranging in age from a baby to teenagers. We’ve started to get worried that we don’t have anything to keep them amused. What can you recommend we do? My advice would definitely be to consider booking a wedding crèche service. Perfect for weddings with children of all ages from 0-12 years, we offer a beautiful indoor or outdoor bell tent filled with endless age appropriate toys, games, activities, a craft station and much more. We can make any space look fabulous and when your big day is over, we’ll clear everything away. You can even hire a team of fantastic Pitch Nannies who are all DBS checked, fully referenced and experienced with children of all ages. This is ideal for taking the worry away from what the children might be up to during the ceremony, speeches and wedding breakfast right through to bed time. We provide a variety of different packages that can be tailored to your needs from bell tent playdens to cosy movie rooms. Isabella Passafaro, www.pitchupandplay.co.uk

If you’re interested in minimising the carbon footprint of your celebrations, read on! ❤ Choose reusable or compostable decorations and tableware. Simple eucalyptus branches, strings of paper flowers, ivy tendrils or even fallen branches from a local wood or park can help to transform your venue into a beautiful yet natural haven. ❤ Reduce the amount of cut flowers at your wedding day by decorating tables with living plants or potted flowers. You can also double these up as favours for your guests. ❤ Ensure your venue and/or caterer can create a menu using locally-sourced ingredients. Here, our chefs can create you a menu sourced entirely within Somerset. ❤ Consider a vegan wedding cake, or one that can be decorated with reusable materials. ❤ Provide wildflower seeds as wedding favours. Not only do these promote biodiversity, your guests will think of you when their flowers bloom at home. ❤ Donate your dress to charity after the big day, or sell it on to another beautiful bride. ❤ Use recycled paper for your invitations and on-the-day elements such as menus and place names. Iconic Italian luxury tailored menswear brand Canali, has opened it’s flagship store in London. THE EYES HAVE IT They say the eyes are the window to the soul. How can I make sure they pop and are the feature of my make-up on my big day?
Ozalea from Blue by Enzoani Collection available at Krystle Brides
DANCEFLOOR READY I’m looking for an elegant dress that’s easy to dance the night away in. What would you suggest? Katy says: If it’s hard to walk in, it’ll be even harder to dance in, so consider something lightweight and not too tight fitting around your legs. If you’re planning to dance the night away, you may prefer an A-line gown or a fit-and-flare silhouette that will allow for more leg movement. We love the elegance of Ozalea, which is new in from the Blue by Enzoani 2022 collection. It’s a simple wedding gown with clean lines and stunning embroidered lace. This beautiful wedding dress also features detachable lace train so you get a dramatic look for walking down the aisle before you simply unhook it for dancing in the evening.
Jane says: Here are some speedy tricks to make sure those pretty peepers pop and withstand those emotional moments, keeping your eye make-up flawless all day. ❤ Summer weddings are great, but hay fever not so much. Invest in some antihistamine eye drops and tablets to keep red itchy eyes under control. ❤ Prep lids with a good eye primer, which makes for smoother shadow application, keeping colour vibrant and crease-free. I recommend Urban Decay. ❤ Dark circles make skin look dull and eyes look small. Hide them with a concealer that’s slightly lighter than your skin tone. For really dark circles, use an orange- or red- based concealer. Blend in underneath your foundation, then apply a lighter concealer on top of the foundation. ❤ Good quality pigmented eyeshadow will last all day, again I recommend Urban Decay. ❤ Create big, bold eyes with depth by applying a lighter shadow all over the lids, then use a darker one in the crease for added dimension. Finally, apply a darker shade to the the outer corner and blend for a seamless look. ❤ For that perfect, professional finish, apply concealer over the centre of the lid up to the crease, then add sparkle on top to make the eye pop. ❤ Choose a colour to suit your eye colour and skin tone. Brown eyes look great with anything, whereas green eyes suit pinks, purples, pale blues and warm earth tones. Blue hues are similarly enhanced with pinks, purples and brown golds. Light tones are complemented by a brown waterproof eyeliners, while brown eyes will pop with black liner. Work the product into the lash line as close to the lashes as your can. Or for a smokier look, apply a brown or black eyeshadow onto your lower lash line with a small brush. Just make sure the top and bottom lines meet the outer corner of the eye. ❤ For added drama, use waterproof liquid liner and flick the outer corner. ❤ Build lashes, first by curling then by adding volume using a white lash primer. Then finish with waterproof mascara in either black or black/brown for a softer look. Alternatively, choose a strip lash, individual lashes or semi permanent. ❤ Brows frame the face, so take a white lash primer and brush through to add volume and definition. Fill in any spaces with an eyeshadow close to your natural colour, and brush through using feathery strokes, up and over towards the tail following the natural arch of the brow. ❤ Finally, add a touch of light-reflecting shadow on your inner eye area and dust under your brow bone. This trick will give the appearance of light bouncing off your eyes.

Introducing Sprout Makeup Pencils (£9.95), the world’s first zero-waste plantable make-up pencils. Yep, plantable! CHILLED-OUT SKIN
Adaptogens have been used for thousands of years in ancient Chinese medicine and ayurvedic remedies to help mitigate the effects of stress on the body, and until recently have mostly been used in herbal supplements and teas to regulate stress levels. But they could also offer the solution to stressed-out skin. MARA Volcanic Sea Clay Detox Masque (£48) contains aswagandha, a skin-strengthening herb and adaptogen powered by antioxidants, which works to fight free radicals, boost hydration and soothe stressed-out, blemish-prone skin. Here come the girls County Wedding Magazines senior editor Melissa Barker shares her wedding planning journey
I
can’t believe that in just a few months time I’ll officially become Mrs Cullen – eek! Dave and I have been engaged since Christmas Day 2020 and are due to get married this July. With all of the uncertantity surrounding COVID-19 restrictions, it’s been quite a stressful journey. However, now that the date is drawing closer I’m finally starting to feel excited. In this issue, read all about my experience going shopping for the bridesmaids’ dresses.
DRESSED TO IMPRESS
a Monday when it was quieter and I’m so glad we did! The consultant was absolutely lovely and couldn’t do enough for us. She made Kelly feel amazing and we didn’t feel pressured at all. With no time constraint, Kelly was able to try on every dress that caught her eye – it was a struggle to choose just one, she looked and felt stunning in them all. She eventually chose the same dress as Olivia, and in my humble (non-biased) opinion, they all look fabulous and I can’t wait to walk down the aisle with my beautiful friends. Overall, shopping together was a nice experience and it was great spending time with the girls, but I’d definitely recommend that fellow brides-to-be start shopping for dresses sooner rather than later – particularly if you have got quite a few bridesmaids! I also can’t stress enough to avoid popular visiting times at your chosen boutiques. It will create a completely different experience and ensured everyone feels relaxed and can enjoy it. Check out the next issue where I’ll be discussing our search for the groomsmen’s outfits and a last-minute videographer.

Choosing who I wanted to be my bridesmaids was one of the easiest decisions I had to make. My sister-in-law, Nolwenn, has been part of the family for a few years now and I really wanted to involve her in our day, so I was pleased when she wanted to be one of my bridesmaids! I also asked my two best friends and fellow County Wedding Magazines editors, Kelly and Olivia, who were over the moon when I asked them (virtually) during one of the many lockdowns. With the easy bit done, we were on to the task of choosing their bridesmaids’ dresses. With conflicting schedules and unpredictable restrictions it was hard to decide on a date that worked for everyone but we were eventually able to book an appointment for the beginning of December 2021. Shopping for their outfits was one of the things I was most excited about when we got
engaged. I love all the girls dearly and really wanted them to feel special and a part of our big day, so making sure that they were comfortable was my number one priority. I wanted them to choose their own style and the only thing I asked was that all the dresses were sage green, which worked out perfectly as the girls all love that colour – it was meant to be! We booked a Saturday appointment and oh my gosh it was busy! The girls had to share a changing room and only managed to try on a handful of dresses before our time was up. What shocked us all was just how long the dresses take to come into the store. Starting our shopping eight months early we all thought we’d have plenty of time to shop around, but we found that all of the gowns wouldn’t be in the store until early May 2022, which would only leave us with two months for alterations – this of course, sent my stress levels through the roof! Despite all of the craziness and the insane amount of people in the boutique, Olivia and Nolwenn both managed to find their dresses on that first visit; Nolwenn opted for a sleeveless A-line gown and Olivia chose a similar style but with floaty off-the-shoulder straps. Kelly and I both felt overwhelmed by the first appointment, and sadly she came away empty handed, so we decided to go back on

❤ Make sure a registrar or celebrant is available on your wedding day before confirming with the venue. ❤ Find out what is and what isn’t included in the booking price. ❤ Check whether your venue has any sound limiters or a curfew in place. ❤ Ensure the venue has liability insurance in case the worst was to happen. ❤ How will the venue handle poor weather or last-minute changes? ❤ Before booking, check the venue’s COVID-19 policies.
❤ If like me, you’re nervous or unsure in front of the camera book a prewedding shoot – it really does make a difference. ❤ Before booking, decide on what style of photography you like and set a budget. ❤ Lots of photographers don’t have prices stated on their website; find five you like and email them all asking for quotes so that you can compare. ❤ Find out how many images you’ll be receiving and how long your photographer will spend with you on the day. ❤ Most suppliers will require a meal, so factor that into your catering budget and check if they have any dietary requirements. ❤ You’ll be spending a large portion of the day with your photographer, so it’s important you get on well, and they make you feel relaxed.
FLOWERS ❤ Some flowers are seasonal and may not be available at the time of year you’re getting married, so be prepared to discuss this with your florist. ❤ Your supplier will have a wealth of knowledge and will be able to advise you on what blooms will suit your day. ❤ Check your quotes include VAT. ❤ Think carefully about if you’d like real or dried flowers. If you’re unsure it may be worth talking to a few different companies to discuss the pros and cons. ❤ Your florist should suggest ways you can save money, for example, re-using blooms from your ceremony for the reception. ❤ There are so many ways that you can preserve your flowers after the wedding, so it’s worth looking at your options.
WEDDING DRESS ❤ Try on a variety of styles to find what best suits your shape. ❤ Trust your bridal consultant and listen to their recommendations, after all, they’re the experts. ❤ Choose a dress that you feel comfortable in and makes you feel like the best version of yourself. ❤ Wear white or skin-coloured underwear to your appointment. ❤ Start shopping nine to 12 months before the wedding to ensure you have plenty of time to get the gown in-store and alterations to be done. ❤ The shopping process can be daunting, so don’t feel pressured to purchase a dress for the sake of it, when you find the right gown, you’ll know it. 91
