I was lucky enough to enjoy the Restore Day Spa at The Glass House Retreat. The Glass House has been designed from scratch and built by industry experts from the ground up. It’s a visionary retreat, with an all-inclusive approach to detoxing and wellness. The sun was shining during my stay and I enjoyed a natter with a friend beside the natural swimming pond, listening to the surrounding nature before indulging in a 25-minute bespoke facial. My skin glowed and I can’t recommend it enough as a pre- or post-wedding treat to give tired and stressed skin the tlc it deserves.

Next up, lunch! The chilli bean tacos with homemade guacamole was

divine – all complemented with an invigorating fresh pineapple juice. If you’re not a vegetarian, rest assured there’s something for everyone’s tatses from sushi to pasta and you come away feeling nourished and well cared for. Not feeling sluggish at all, I then enjoyed the heated leisure pool, had a quick steam and sauna before I tried my hands at one of the fitness sessions - all included in the day. I chose a 30-minute core session, however, was equally tempted by the daily mindfulness sessions. The daily timetable is truly excellent. It’s everything you need to start life again, positively transformed. I can’t wait to return.

THE SUN INN’S 20TH ANNIVERSARY

The Sun Inn in the beautiful village of Dedham on the Essex/Suffolk border has been the destination pub, restaurant and place to stay since 2003 and a stop off for travellers and locals since before artist John Constable immortalised the village and surrounding countryside in the 18th and 19th century. This July, the inn celebrates its 20th anniversary under the ownership and management of Baker Hospitality which also owns Church Street Tavern in Colchester and The White Hart Inn which opened on Mersea Island last June.

Piers Baker opened the doors on 17th July 2003. He says, “Fresh out of London, I wanted to bring the food I loved and had worked with to an unloved, run-down pub in a quintessential village, in an area abundant with fine produce. It won’t last a year it was said, especially since we didn’t do chips.... until 2018! Not only is The Sun thriving but we’ve also opened Church Street Tavern in 2014 and The White Hart Inn in 2022.”

To round off the celebrations and offers in July, The Sun’s annual music and beer festival will take place on Saturday 15th to Sunday 16th July.

What to expect

Orsett Hall’s Main Building is beautifully designed and rebuilt to replicate the original building which was built initially around 1750 and then rebuilt in the early 20th century, but unfortunately burned down in a fire in 2008.

The hotel features individually designed and stylishly decorated guest bedrooms, superb dining in the Garden Brasserie, elegant function rooms, a gorgeous chapel and boutique spa.

Time to celebrate

Orsett Hall has an on-site chapel, licensed to conduct religious and non-religious wedding ceremonies, as well as civil partnerships. Its stunning interior resembles something out of a fairytale and must be seen in person to be fully appreciated. Designed in soothing pastel tones and framed by elegant white beams covered in white flowers, the chapel offers traditional seating and a large balcony where additional guests can be seated and music can be played.

The gazebo offers couples the opportunity to get married outdoors within the gardens of Orsett Hall. Perfect for weddings in the summer months, it offers couples an intimate setting al fresco. All function rooms are also licensed for wedding ceremonies.

The Gold Room with its exquisite chandeliers, period fireplace and large window areas, is a bright and welcoming setting for a wedding. It can cater for up to 100 guests seated, and up to 200 for an evening reception.

Whitmore is decorated in warm rich tones and can comfortably accommodate up to 140 seated guests, or 250 for a standing reception. It includes a large bar and is the perfect venue for a special occasion.

The Grahame Thomas Pavilion is the largest suite; it contains a private bar and can seat up to 520 people for a banquet or wedding. The Pavilion is fully air-conditioned and even boasts its own koi carp pond and bridge, where outside seating is also provided.

What to expect

Stifford hall is set in picturesque village of North Stifford and is an elegant 18th century Georgian Mansion House set in six acres of landscaped gardens, with a pagoda for outside ceremonies, and a terrace ideal for a drinks reception.

What to expect

This stunning Georgian country house offers a wealth of beautiful space to accommodate your dream wedding. On the first floor of the house is the exquisite, newly-renovated honeymoon suite which is available for you to enjoy on the night of your wedding.

The beautiful grounds stretch to 22 acres and include the Mulberry tree from which the house gets its present name. Within the grounds, there are many photo opportunities for couples, which includes a wishing well, Chippendale bridge and long grass meadows. The back paddock is home to the venue’s herd of alpacas, who all enjoy being involved on the day.

Time to celebrate

The Lakeview Gazebo provides a truly picturesque setting for a dreamy outdoor wedding, available between April to September on days when the weather is fine. If the British weather decides not to play along, Mulberry House offers complete flexibility and can arrange for your celebrations to be moved inside under the vaulted ceiling of the Cedar Suite. Both spaces seat 130 guests.

For your reception, the air-conditioned Mulberry Suite boasts a stunning oak beamed ceiling and statement chandelier. Seating up

to 120 for your wedding breakfast, it’s perfect for a contemporary whilst traditional wedding breakfast and evening reception. Located on the ground floor of the main house, it also has its own private bar and cloakroom.

The décor has been kept neutral, with wooden floors and exposed oak beams ready to be dressed as you wish!

Hidden behind the beautiful Georgian house lies the newly refurbished all season’s marquee, seating up to 130 guests for a sit-down meal or 200 informally for an evening reception. It also has its own built-in bar and private decking area with lower outside terrace for use on warmer days or simply for some fresh air.

The ivory draped, starlit ceiling with crystal chandeliers creates a magical feel for those special night-time occasions.

The Marquee can be accessed via the main house, making it ideal for winter weddings, or from the woodland gardens during those sunny summer days. The heating and air-con make it an ideal allyear-round spot!

The formally landscaped wedding garden has been cleverly planted to show interest all year round. So, no matter what time of year a wedding takes place there’s always some formal structure and colour in the garden. Beyond the garden is the woodland area for woodland weddings fronted by the recently renovated pond and fountain providing an elegant arrival. The Main Barn known as the Grain Store incorporates a large, open fireplace and mezzanine gallery to make full use of the 35-foot-high ceilings. I always KNEW

Amber and Ricky met at school. Ricky was in the year above and very popular and younger Amber – a selfconfessed geek(!) – their paths never crossed. Until one night... as Amber explains, “I wangled an invite to Ricky’s 18th birthday party. He stumbled up to me and said, ‘I have no idea who you are, but I can’t stop looking at you’. I never ever forgot that sentence. Fast forward eight years, I downloaded Hinge, and who was one of the first people to pop up? Ricky! In my gut I just knew that this was it and a month after matching, Ricky asked me to be his girlfriend.”

Ricky proposed in Cancun. As they approach the restaurant Amber had favourited online, the waitress blindfolded her. Amber tells us, “I was shocked. My initial thought was that he’d just decorated the table nicely as a surprise. We were walking for a while, then turned onto the beach. We came to a stop and Ricky took the blindfold off. In front of me were the most gigantic lit up letters saying Marry me? I remember Ricky saying some lovely words - then after a lot of gasping, disbelief and laughter I of course said yes. It was truly amazing.”

I’d been to so many venues, and Ricky was being a groomzilla, in my opinion! My Mum had been to a reception at Greenwoods and advised me to go and take a look. I went on my own the first time and loved it instantly. It’s such a beautiful big space, and I knew I could turn it into my dream wedding. I kept the theme very minimal with a few personal touches. We had eucalyptus featuring on our place cards, table plan and welcome sign, which kept in with the sage green and spring vibe we were going for.

I customised the dress to have detachable off the shoulder sleeves. I wanted to keep the styling simple, so I opted for a mediumlength, beautiful lace veil with detailing matching the dress at the bottom and kept it simple with a pair of earrings.

My dress was called Lucie by Justin Alexander. I always knew I wanted a fishtail style dress, and I f fell in love with this within an hour of being in my first bridal shop, Serenity brides in Colchester.

Our venue was decorated by Decorative Events and it was stunning. We had blossom trees for a spring feel, a white rug for the aisle, and of course we had to have a light-up dancefloor - that was a huge hit!

Our favours were his and hers sweetie bags, with both our favourite sweets inside! Mine were fizzy bubblegum bottles, Ricky’s were sherbet lemons.

Saying those special words, ‘I do’.

The flowers were done by a trusted family friend. I let her have free reign because I knew she’d come up with something stunning, which she did. It was all pink, greens and silver which was so on theme and looked incredible.

With six bridesmaids it can be tricky to please everyone, but they all seemed happy and looked stunning.

The groom wore a navy suit from Moss Bros. He and his groomsmen all wore the same, the difference was the best men had navy waistcoasts, whilst he had grey.

A TALE winter’s

Becki and Dan’s picture perfect wedding took place on a frosty, cool winter’s day at Gosfield Hall

Dan proposed in December 2020 on a staycation in the Cotswolds. It was a crisp winter’s day, so the couples dressed up and went for a grand afternoon tea followed by a walk in the beautiful grounds of Lucknam Park. Becki tells us, “As soon as we left the hotel, Dan started his proposal by talking about how far we’d come as a couple, but I was a little distracted by the random photographer hiding in the bushes with a camera! I thought to myself ‘what on earth is that man doing? Is he taking pictures of a bird or something?’ and then as he started coming closer and taking pictures of us I realised what was happening. After Dan got down on one knee and I said yes, the staff at the venue came out and gave us champagne and we had an engagement photoshoot around the grounds – I had a cheesy grin in all of the photos because I couldn’t believe what had just happened!”

Daniel and Rebecca Sherlock-Burke started planning their big day and they tied the knot on 3rd December, 2022 at Gosfield Hall.

Here, Becki tells us more...

SETTING THE SCENE

The couple wanted a traditional English manor wedding and Gosfield Hall ticked that box, being a former royal palace. “We loved that it was steeped in history and all of the rooms were stunning – the bridal suite is genuinely jaw dropping, and the ballroom (where we had the wedding breakfast) and Queen’s Gallery (where we had the ceremony) were stunning rooms that felt extremely grand and regal.” Becki explains.

To create the dream winter wedding, Gosfield Hall’s décor was second to none. The pair chose lots of lanterns and candles everywhere to give a warm and cosy feel. So much thought went into all aspects of the day as Rebecca recalls, “Each table was named after one of our grandparents (unfortunately only one of them is still with us) with pictures of them in acrylic on each of the tables. This was to acknowledge that we’d not be here without our grandparents and are a large part of who we are today.”

The cake was designed as a marbled white buttercream over five tiers with frosty touches and a central acrylic tier containing flowers. Meanwhile, the floral arrangements gave a fresh feel throughout. The centrepieces were a mixture of tall flower balls of white hydrangeas and roses whilst some tables had lanterns sat within a wreath of eucalyptus and winter florals. The top table had two large white blossom trees with glass baubles and candles hanging from the branches and

floating candles with eucalyptus on each end. The bouquets included a mixture of white and red roses, eucalyptus, white anemone, white astilbe and brunia.

LOOKING THE PART

Becki wore the ‘Alma’ dress from the platinum collection by Demetrios. She remembers, “I wanted a showstopper style that felt regal – something I could never wear anywhere else but on this special day. It truly was my dream dress and fit well into the winter theme. As the dress was so intricate and detailed, I didn’t want to overload with accessories and wanted the dress to be the main focus.

I had the matching lace veil and wore pearl earrings. I changed in the evening as the dress was too large to dance in and we had prepared a first dance; my reception dress was the ‘Winter’ dress by Maggie Sotterro, which was still elegant but easier to move in.”

Dan looked the part in a tailored morning suit from Charles Tyrwhitt with black tails and grey pinstripe trousers. The couple accessorised together and chose to wear the same wedding scent: Maison Margiela’s By the Fireplace. I love this idea!

The bridesmaids wore fitted dark green velvet dresses with a bardot neckline finished with a single pearl necklace and pearls in their hair.

TIME TO CELEBRATE

The couple chose a string quartet as the guests arrived, during the ceremony and reception drinks covering classical versions of pop songs. During the evening there was a DJ playing to dance the night away. To top off the day they lit the sky with fireworks. Becki describes, “Everyone loved the sparklers and fireworks, the cherry on top of a fantastic day and on a cold winter’s night it felt particularly magical. We received the photobooth album after the wedding was over, and it’s clear everybody was absolutely loving that extra touch!”

MEMORABLE MOMENTS

As the couple remember their special day, they agree that their first dance was a highlight! “We’d taken lessons and been practicing in a car park behind Tesco for months, but it all paid off!” Becki tells us! “Everyone loved it and it felt like such a special moment. But when everyone joined us for dancing with the DJ after, that was the best bit with everyone living their best life, with ties round heads, guests being lifted up, knee slides, twerking, and throwing all the shapes we could - it was brilliant!

Dan decided to propose to Jody on Christmas Day. Both Disney fanatics, she wrapped individual boxes, in the style of Russian dolls and in each box she wrote a message describing Jody as her happily ever and asked her to marry her!

On 26th March 2023, Danielle Rabin and Jody Richards made their dreams come true at Crondon Park. Here, Danielle and Jody tell us more about their day...

Dan went to Kings & Allen suit makers in Liverpool Street and had a bespoke suit made for her. She also requested to supply the inner lining, which was a red Mickey design, so it matched the day.

Being drawn to barn style venues, the couple fell in love with everything about Crondon Park straight away.

Dan and Jody let the bridesmaids choose their own style from the selection of dresses at Wed2be.

Jody wore a dress from Wed2b. She had tried loads of but fell in love with this one.

“We felt calm on the day surprisingly, but all because Tracey from Crondon had everything handled so we didn’t need to stress over anything.”

“We had a sweet cart and love light up letters. We also arranged for a balloon in the shape of mickey ears to be on each table.”

“Our friends helped arrange our stunning cake.”

The table names were names of rides found in different Disney parks.

My fiancé and I have just started looking for our dream wedding venue, and we’d like to get married outside. What should we keep in mind before booking?

There are lots of things to consider when looking for an outside venue, but most importantly, you have to choose somewhere that fits with your theme and simply takes your breath away. For example, do you want something in the woodland, by the waterside, in a garden, or perhaps a more historic backdrop? There are so many different options, so do your research well. Also, if it’s easy for your guests to walk to, especially those with mobility issues, and does the venue offer any assistance (at That Amazing Place we have a golf buggy to transport elderly guests!)? Not

forgetting the walk for the bride, of course! Remember to ask the wedding co-ordinator where you walk from and what route you take to get to the ceremony area. Another really important part of an outdoor ceremony is the sound. Ask the venue if they provide a mic and speakers for the registrar, so that your guests can hear the registrar/celebrant and enjoy the ceremony. Finally, make sure you also look at the indoor option for the venue. As much as you may dream of an outdoor ceremony, UK weather is unpredictable, so you have to make sure you’re 100 per cent with the indoor ceremony room too!

The closer I get to my wedding, the harder I find it to fall asleep in the evening – what can I do to calm my racing mind?

Good sleep is the cornerstone of a healthy lifestyle and has a positive impact on every aspect of our lives including relationships, eating habits and stress levels. If you’re finding it hard to drift off, the three strategies below could help:

1) Pre-bed journaling is the practice of writing down any anxious thoughts that can stop us from falling asleep and staying asleep. It need only take a couple of minutes, but noting down anything that you’re worried about, or that you need to remember for the following day(s) can really help to switch the body out of its stressed state, leaving you feeling calm and in control.

2) Make sure you drink any caffeinated drinks before midday. Caffeine can stay in your system for many hours after you drink it and can not only make it difficult to drop off in the evening, but may also reduce the amount of deep sleep that you enjoy.

3) Minimise refined carbohydrates such as white breads and white pasta, as well as high sugar, high fat snacks, instead focusing on meals comprising lean protein, healthy fats and complex carbohydrates. On the Rangali Island’s house reef, I was lucky enough to spot a manta ray, baby black fin sharks, who have kept to the shallows to learn to feed and grow, parrot fish, turtles, reef sharks and shoals of colourful fish imitating a scene

from Finding Nemo! If this isn’t enough, the resort offers an excellent range of water sports and boasts a PADI 5* dive centre. I was lucky enough to enjoy a champagne sunset cruise where we viewed joyful spinner dolphins playing gleefully in the waves; as well as our search for the magnificent whale shark which, like us, enjoys bathing in these warm, tropical waters.

indulged in a 90-minute session entitled Mindful Bliss. Watching the fish beneath through the glass-bottomed treatment room, my therapist began the ritual to restore harmony and balance. She started with the most fabulous back massage, followed by a mini facial using clear quartz crystal wands and finished with the entrancing effect of fragrant coconut oil being gently poured on my forehead and hairline (often known as your Third-Eye Chakra). My hair has never felt so nourished following this invigorating hair and scalp massage.

A FOODIES’ PARADISE

Foodies are in for a treat with 12 restaurants to sample. Wake up to room service or enjoy breakfast at Vilu, the à la carte establishment offering dishes from smashed avocado with sourdough to eggs benedict to sensational pancakes for those with a sweet tooth, or head over to the very relaxed Atoll Market, the resort’s only buffet restaurant. Here you can sample many international cuisines, everything from sushi to freshlymade omelettes and help yourself to a smoothie pressed-to-order or a fruit platter from the cold room.

Another first, dine below deck at fine-dining restaurant, Ithaa. Here, I was lucky enough to enjoy a set menu which consisted of silky dill-infused salmon, foie gras torchon, and miso and truffle marinated black cod fillet, all beautifully paired with a sensational Sauvignon Blanc – all this whilst watching reef sharks gliding past the surrounding glass walls. As well as these choices, there’s Ufaa by Jereme Leung, where you can sample handmade noodles and dim sum; and the island’s health restaurant, Mandhoo – expect freshly caught seafood, lobster and fragrant flavours aplenty.

FEEL-GOOD TRAVEL

Eco-conscious travel is all the rage and Conrad Maldives Rangali Island is certainly getting involved in the promise to go green. You’d be hard pushed to find a single-use plastic in the resort as bamboo options (even your key card) are being introduced at every opportunity. Furthermore, and I was so excited to be a part of this, in 2017 the resort launched a coral regeneration programme, which aims to protect the surrounding reefs. With a complex eco-system and more than 10,000 species in the Maldives, the programme includes a coral nursery and a coral adoption programme for guests to partake in. The super-friendly dive team and I took to the waters to replant baby coral to flourish in their new home and hopefully thrive and grow. In six months’ time they’ll update me on my coral’s progress! TRUE ROMANCE

It’s safe to say the staff at Conrad Maldives Rangali Island will do everything to make your stay one to remember whether you’d like to experience private dining beneath the stars on your veranda listening to the sea lap around your stilted accommodation; or a private beach dinner, just you, your love and the powder white sand beneath your feet. Peace and tranquillity awaits honeymooners at Galgorm in Northern Ireland

WhileNorthern Ireland might not be the first place you think of when planning a mini-moon, having spent two nights at the incredible Galgorm Resort near Ballymena, CWM deputy managing editor Kelly Andrews is here to change that!

Northern Ireland’s premier luxury hotel and spa, located just 30 minutes from Belfast, offers the ultimate haven of relaxation. Set within 380 acres of parkland with the sometimes rushing, sometimes babbling River Maine running through it, Galgorm’s enviable location truly provides an escape from the real world.

A SPOT OF R&R

The jewel in Galgorm’s crown is the Thermal Spa Village, which I’d go so far as to say is unique, as I can honestly say I’ve never encountered its like. So vast is it that you need a map to orientate yourself! It’s fortunate indeed then that it has it’s own app containing just that, plus all the info you could possibly need during your stay. My accommodation was a mere two-minute walk to the entrance, so I was up bright and early, donned the robe and flip flops provided, and was off to investigate. Despite the flight from Stansted the previous day being one of the most stressful in recent memory, I could already feel the tension melt away as I strolled alongside the River nodding a cheerful, “good morning,” to fellow guests as I went.

If your experience of a spa is a pool, Jacuzzi, steam room and a sauna, maybe a hot tub if you’re really lucky, you’ll be swept off your feet by the Thermal Village! Mainly based in the open air it features a Wonderland of treats to explore and experience around every corner. I happened upon the Riverside Garden first; home to outdoor pools, hot tubs, The Salt Cave, a cafe and the Celtic Sauna. In some of the Resort’s packages you’ll receive a complementary 10-minute Celtic Sauna Infusion here, which was the case with my shepherd’s hut accommodation. So naturally, I wasted no time!

We were shown into the sauna by our sauna master, where I was pleasantly surprised to find a floor-to-ceiling window along one side acting as a frame for the stunning, tranquil landscape beyond. It occurred to me that what this place does so well is allow nature to do its thing in providing all the beauty and relaxation anyone could wish for. The landscape is part of the experience, not just a mere sideline, but I digress...

This treatment is a traditional Aufghuss ceremony consisting of three balls of ice being thrown onto hot coals, each one containing essential oils to benefit the body in a different way (breathing, circulation and skin) with each temperature more intense than the last. The air was circulated by the sauna master who used a towel to push the aromas towards us in the mesmerising, dance-like movements characteristic of the ceremony. As Celtic music played softly in the background, it was easy to drift away. When the ritual was over, we were escorted to the firepit area, where we were served a cool and refreshing watermelon punch to bring the body temperature back down.

As I continued my explorations, I came across The Walled Garden and couldn’t resist stopping for a cocktail in The Palm House, where I was able to recline and take in the views of the beautifully manicured gardens. Soon though, it was time for my private Riverside Bathing Experience. From reception, charming host Kenneth showed me the way to Birch, my very own secluded hot tub for the hour. The water is heated by log burner to 39 degrees, and the comforting smell of the wood burning only adds to the experience. A glass of prosecco waited for me and I was able to order more drinks using the QR code provided, which would be served tubside. All of my senses were engaged as I listened to the calming music and the sounds of the flowing river, sipped on my prosecco, enjoyed the smell of the wood smoke, and felt the warm water relax my muscles – this was the life!

The Thermal Village is actually open until 9pm, but by 6pm it was

time for me to reluctantly head back to the hut to get ready for dinner. I procrastinated all the way though, stopping en route for one last visit to my beloved River House (with its infared beds and views of the cascading River), a hot chocolate enjoyed on the riverside boardwalk, and a spell in The Alpine Garden’s vitality pool.

HEARTY FARE

The foodies amongst you will be equally as delighted by Galgorm as the spa aficionados since there are no fewer than three restaurants to choose from for dinner: Fratelli Ristorante, Gillies Grill and Castle Kitchen + Bar (the latter just a short transfer away). That’s not even counting the other options for afternoon tea in The Conservatory, where you can also find the Cocktail Bar & Gin Library, and McKendry’s, all up at the main house.

This was my first visit to Northern Ireland and I found the people to be some of the friendliest I’ve ever encountered while travelling. We honestly felt like we were among friends, and the staff at Galgorm can’t do enough for their guests. We didn’t have to make the walk from our shepherd’s hut to Gillies Grill once as we simply dialled reception and a short while later a thoroughly charming member of staff would be there to collect us, which was most appreciated, particularly when it rained.

Gillies Grill is reportedly a favourite amongst guests and locals alike, and it’s not difficult to see why. With a warm informal atmosphere, and hunting lodge vibes, it offers a menu sure to delight any palate. Interestingly, the menus for all of the eateries at the Resort are accessed via QR code, so you can peruse at leisure on your phone. No doubt developed during the pandemic, it helps to keep everyone safe, but is also kind to the environment cutting down on paper.

I opted for the barbecue pork bites, followed by the braised brisket of beef for main, finished off with a selection of delicious Irish cheeses. After thanking our super-sweet and helpful server, we made our way through to the adjoining McKendry’s. With a traditional Irish pub vibe, it’s also the Resort’s exclusive whiskey bar, offering an impressive collection of 300plus varieties from more than 21 countries. Here, we happily let our dinner go down while sipping on another cocktail and listening to the live music.

When it comes to culinary highlights, for me, it was breakfast. I’ll admit to being like a kid in a sweetshop! The spread was a joyous sight to behold with everything you could possibly dream of for the most important meal of the day from muffins and pastries; fish, cold meats and cheeses; cereals and fruit; to pancakes, full Irish breakfast, waffles and toast. Self control was most definitely needed!

HOME AWAY FROM HOME

Opened as a bed and breakfast more than 30 years ago, Galgorm has grown into the immense site it is today with 125 luxurious guestrooms, including 48 deluxe rooms, Junior and Signature suites, along with a range of more out-of-the-ordinary accommodation such as log cabins, cottage suites, shepherd’s huts and exclusive residences perfect for groups. But it hasn’t stopped there as it’s still growing with works currently underway and more in the pipeline. Even as I visited, work on a group of two storey cottages was nearing completion and land was about to be cleared for the new treehouse accommodation.

I was happily ensconced in one of the Resort’s shepherd’s huts during my stay. Welcomed by an electric woodburner cosily heating this home away from home, we quickly discovered all the comforts we could wish for were provided. I was obsessed with the huge outdoor copper bath, which I made a dive for as soon as I’d dumped my bags. The complimentary G&T and bath bomb, were much appreciated additions following the aforementioned airport hell.

For honeymooners though, there are two particular showstoppers that I would highly recommend! If you’re looking for ultimate luxury, Suite 1857 can be found in the original manor house and offers unrivalled views of the River from its Juliet balcony. Elegant and romantic, its rooms are decorated in brocade wall coverings in a muted palette, antique lighting, and French Baroque-style furniture, with solid oak floors and beams. It features a lounge area with sofa and two arm chairs for curling up in front of the TV, plus bathroom with free-standing bath and walk-in shower.

If a secluded, rustic, woodland escape is more your vibe the Shepherd’s Hut Suite is the place for you. Nestled in Galgorm Wood with the cascading River running alongside it, it’s luxuriously appointed with a lounge, mini kitchen, and bathroom with shower room and free-standing bath. But the stand-out features, without doubt, are your very own sauna and hot tub on the terrace. Enjoy a soak in the warm waters as you watch the sun set and raise a glass to yourselves, the newlyweds.

Nestled in 72 acres of tranquil parkland in the Staffordshire countryside, Moddershall Oaks Country Spa Retreat is a luxurious property with lavish suites, spa facilities, lakeside dining and a wellness centre. I felt a calming oasis as soon as I ventured onto Moddershall Oaks’ winding driveway. With the sun beaming down on me, I quickly left the outside world behind. The next thing I knew, I was enjoying an elderflower spritz while chatting to the attentive and friendly staff who were on hand throughout my entire stay.

REST YOUR HEAD

With only 10 suites on-site, I was excited to see my accommodation, and I wasn’t disappointed when I entered the modern space. Complete with air-conditioning, a seating area with plush furnishings, a private terrace, a smart TV, a desk, and a stylish bathroom with a rainfall shower; it had all the amenities needed for a tranquil stay.

All overnight guests can book a private 30-minute session in the outdoor hot tub. I went for a late night dip, so I could enjoy the sun setting and view the beautiful stars. The water was the perfect temperature, with water jets and warm lighting to add to the oh-so-romantic atmosphere.

When it was time to rest my head, I quickly entered dreamland thanks to the comfortable king-sized bed and fluffy pillows.

THE ULTIMATE SPA SESSION

Moddershall Oaks is more than just a spa; it’s a tranquil setting to enjoy quality time with loved ones. In the heart of the property, couples will find an outdoor heated vitality pool to enjoy year-round regardless of the weather. Surrounding the pool are comfortable loungers, providing the ideal location to read a book and enjoy a bite from the spa deli. I loved the views of the rolling countryside from the Kelo sauna and the calming setting in the intimate relaxation lounge with comfy sofas and blankets to

snuggle up.

The indoor spa area was my favourite space, with a hydrotherapy pool plus two overhead water jets designed to massage the upper back and neck muscles, while helping to promote blood circulation. Some of my personal highlights included the steam room, the 10-meter pool, the foot baths, heated loungers and the experience shower.

I was lucky enough to experience an Indian-inspired head massage during my stay. The talented beauty therapist used the latest massaging techniques to help tackle the problem areas in my upper back, shoulders, neck, face and scalp. As someone who struggles with tension headaches, I didn’t realise how much I needed the treatment. For 25 minutes, my problems melted away while I focused on the relaxing music and the calming aromas.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

As a massive food lover, I couldn’t wait to enjoy a two-course meal at The Oak House Restaurant after hearing great things about the menu. Spoiler alert, I wasn’t disappointed! Using local produce and fresh seasonal ingredients, where possible, the talented chefs created a feast. For my starter, I went with the lemongrass chicken bao buns with apple and cucumber salad and a spiced honey dressing. I opted for the beerbattered haddock fillet for my main, with skin-on triple-cooked chips, homemade tartare sauce and pea puree – the flavours were exquisite.

Wrapped in my fluffy robe, I returned to the restaurant for breakfast the following morning – the perfect way to start the day. I enjoyed a continental breakfast followed by avocado on toasted sourdough and a poached egg before walking around the lake and relaxing in the hammocks. I was sad to be checking out of this wonderful resort and can’t wait to return soon.
