Imake no secret of the fact that I live for the summer months, so you won’t be surprised to hear that I just love this time of the year. As I’m writing this, the clocks have just changed and already we’re getting a hint of my favourite season being on the horizon with lighter evenings, longer days, and warmer climes. It’s the perfect time of year for getting outdoors and I can’t wait to get my walking boots on and get out into the countryside to blow away the cobwebs. I’ve also signed up to a 20-mile charity hike in July, so I don’t really have much choice but to get out and start training – must start that soon… very soon! I find being out in the fresh air is the best time to unwind and get creative too. If you’ve got some planning decisions to make or need some inspiration, try it out – get outdoors and get your mind working; whether it’s a walk around the block, a stroll in the local park or a drive to the country, trust me, you’ll come up with all sorts.
This issue is sure to get you inspired too. With three stunning shoots on pages 49, 65 and 77 and three real weddings from page 24, you won’t be short of ideas. We share a variety of top looks for your bridal party over on page 39 and head to page 43 for the lowdown on big-day entertainment options.
I’ve loved creating this issue for you. It’s brimming with springtime vibes and I hope you enjoy reading it just as much!

RAFFLES LONDON AT THE OWO
020 3397 5800 | www.theowo.london
The launch of Raffles London at The OWO this summer will bring a oneof-a-kind venue with remarkable history at every turn. Sitting pride of place in the heart of Whitehall, the Old War Office – now reborn as The OWO – is one of London’s most fascinating landmarks.
The site has evolved from the former Palace of Whitehall when it was home to King Henry VIII and other monarchs to the main base of Britain’s Ministry of Defence in 1906 where Lord Haldane and Sir Winston Churchill held office. As a Grade II*-listed building, The OWO’s grand dimensions and design make it a fabulous example of Edwardian Baroque architecture.
One of the most notable transformations in the building is The Whitehall Ballroom, perfect for large celebrations of up to 600 guests. Other event spaces consist of The Lawrence, a dramatic pre-function space for your drinks reception, the Morse & Code Rooms and more intimate gatherings can be held in the hotel’s historic Heritage Suites. For something truly
spectacular, book a range of interconnecting suites on the Whitehallfacing side of the building with panoramic views of London’s most famous buildings.
In addition to these spaces, The OWO boasts nine restaurants and three bars and The Guerlain Spa and Pillar Wellbeing will offer wellbeing and fitness, as well as hair and make-up services on the day in the Guerlain Atelier. The hotel’s legendary Heritage Suites and Corner Suites, named after famous female spies, make for an opulent retreat at the end of the night.

Rachael and Sam met at Aberystwyth University in Wales and have been together ever since. “Our story began 11 years ago. We shared our first date night at Aberystwyth Lighthouse under the stars and that followed by a summer of dates in London’s Royal Parks,” says Rachael. “I met Sam at the end of my first year at university and I’ve never looked back!”
The proposal was a complete surprise. “Although we’ve been together for so long and always knew we’d get married I had absolutely no idea it was coming. Sam proposed in our favourite place, the Lake District, on top of a mountain near
Grasmere. It was just us and beautiful views, and he even sneakily carried a mini bottle of champagne for us to pop at the top. It was perfect,” she recalls.
The duo lived near Hackney for over six years and love the vibe so that was the area they knew they wanted to tie the knot in. “It’ll always have a special place in our hearts. It’s so relaxed and some of our favourite places in London, such as Victoria Park and Columbia Road flower market are super close,” she says.
Here Rachael tells us more about their day…
I wore a Self Portrait dress. I always knew I wanted a mid-length design with lace or flower details. It suited the venue perfectly as it was modern and matched the chilled Hackney vibe.
I accessorised with daisy earrings, a daisy bracelet, and blue shoes.
The Hackney is a super cool cocktail bar and coffee shop, with stunning natural light and décor. We’re big lovers of coffee and brunch, so celebrating in a coffee shop was heaven for us.
Sam wore a blazer from Walker & Slater, with blue chinos, a white shirt and blue tie. His two best men wore outfits of their choice, as we wanted them to feel relaxed for the day.
My sister was my maid-of-honour. She wore a stunning pale yellow mid-length Self Portrait dress, so the material was similar to mine. They looked so lovely together on the day.
Throughout the venue there was gorgeous greenery hanging everywhere. It felt natural and relaxed and was exactly what we were looking for.
Hackney Town hall was a perfect location for us, we wanted something intimate, not too formal with a relaxed vibe, and the wooden chamber room was just what we hoped it would be. My bouquet was a stunning mix of natural flowers.
For our centrepieces, flowers were placed in a range of glass and pottery bottles and they were arranged along the centre of the long tables.
We had a flower wall at the back of the room. Our florist was incredible. It was the first time we’d seen the flowers at the venue, and I couldn’t have dreamed of it looking better.
Our food was created by the absolutely amazing caterers, Banquet. Food was important to us and the four-course menu was a huge hit.
My aunty made our cake and cupcakes and they looked and tasted amazing.
I made the table plan by placing handmade cards in a big plant pot of large daisies.
Instead of favours, we had wooden place names made for everyone to take home.
Our guest book was a gorgeous daisy design to match our theme. We treated guests to a sweet station that went down a storm. We transported guests to the reception on a vintage red bus. It created some great photo opportunities.
We opted for an excellent Spotify playlist to fill our dancefloor. Both our favourite parts of the day were the speeches, we were crying and laughing in equal measure.
Heather our photographer captured so many beautiful moments, and some that we didn’t even know had happened. We’re so grateful for our photos that we truly treasure.

Liz
and Henry first met at work and were friends for a couple of years before a crazy weekend away at a music festival sparked a relationship. “We’d always been attracted by each other’s energy, sense of humour and sense of fun, but initially just got to know each other as colleagues and mates,” Henry explains. After five and half years, they got engaged. “The proposal was very low key, as it was at the start of the third lockdown, but we had a really lovely day together,” he says. “We walked up to Walthamstow Wetlands, picked up some DIY cocktails from one of our favourite bars in Bethnal Green, then got dressed up and had dinner (takeaway) together at the flat we’d just bought. Liz was pretty surprised but remembered to say yes!” he says.
When it came to planning their day, they did it their way! “We wanted to have a wedding that reflected who we are – not too traditional or ceremonial. We don’t have loads of relatives, so it was a chance to celebrate with our immediate family and a few dozen friends,” says Henry.
For Liz and Henry, the best things about weddings are having a big party, celebrating with friends and family, and organizing a day that’s all about them! “Getting so many of our favourite people together in the same room at once was such a highlight, particularly with some friends having moved out of London or abroad in recent years. It was a proper reunion and an epic party.”
Here Henry fills us in on all the detail…
Liz’s dress was from House of Ollichon. It was a gorgeous two-piece that showed off her tattoos.
Later into the evening, Liz changed into a 1920s-style white dress for dancing, and I switched up my jacket to a slightly more dazzling one at the same time.
Liz accessorised with a stars and moon headpiece from Honey & Ember, shoes by Terry De Havilland and her usual array of gold jewellery and piercings.
Liz’s bridesmaids wore black dresses and each picked their own style to feel comfortable and her nieces were flower girls and were unbelievably cute.
My groomsmen wore dark suits that weren’t identical to allow each to feel comfortable and I wore a similar style but my jacket was black velvet with subtle brocaded patterning to stand out. We accessorised with ontheme buttonholes and knitted, mustard yellow ties.
We had a non-religious service and it felt super personal and relaxed. Our celebrant, Patricia, from Hackney Council was wonderful.
Our florist created an incredible archway flanked by beautiful dried pampas grass arrangements that created the backdrop for our ceremony.
During the ceremony my sister read a lovely poem and my brother played acoustic versions of our favourite songs, including Heat Waves by Glass Animals and Cosmic Love by Florence + The Machine. That made the day even more special.
The floral styling was reflected in the small centrepieces that were created by my mother who’s got an amazing eye for design and details.
We were looking for a venue in East London, as it’s where we’ve lived for almost 10 years. We immediately loved Core Clapton because it was a great space and a blank canvas that we could turn into something that really suited us.
Our bridal and bridesmaid bouquets and buttonholes all complemented the theme.
The decorations were minimal, but all closely thought through by Liz to match our theme.
We had long, dark wooden tables rather than traditional circular ones and they looked great.
The catering was simple and informal - tapas brought out to the tables in rustic bowls for sharing and later on, we had artisanal pizzas, plus some decadent brownies and doughnuts from Crosstown Doughnuts!
We both felt super relaxed all day, albeit excited and nervous at the start, as expected. We had so much fun all day.
For us, the best things about weddings are having a big party, celebrating with friends and family. Getting so many of our favourite people together in the same room was such a highlight. It was a proper reunion and an epic party.
Our place names were on cute wine glass charms, with fun, cartoony versions of each person’s likeness (hair, eye colour, glasses etc) that our guests really loved and kept.
The cocktail bar by Crimson Mobile Bars went down a treat later on. We served espresso martinis, bee’s knees and margaritas. It felt relaxed, perfectly on-point, and was another hit with guests!
Our band was incredible. We had the sax player during the drinks reception and the whole band joined for the evening, soundtracking our first dance to You’ve Got The Love, by Florence + The Machine, which is one of our favourite tracks.
The table plan, table names and signage were designed by my colleague Georgie Cobbs, with a decorative floral theme and lettering.
The speeches were all great, spaced out during the day, and each with their own energy and vibe. They all made people laugh and get slightly emotional at points too!

Full of character and quirkiness, Zetter Townhouse Clerkenwell set the scene for Egle and Jason’s intimate celebration
Images courtesy of The Kensington Photographer
Egle
and Jason met on Tinder and with such a natural spark between them, they wasted no time. “After a few conversations we agreed to meet. We weren’t interested in playing ping pong with messages,” she says. They established that they both love dogs and the rest is history! “Jason had a boxer dog and my family have had a few of them in the past. I was convinced a man must be a keeper if he has such a good taste in dogs,” she says. Their first date was in Harry’s Dolce Vita and it went from there. “Jason was very keen and a true gentleman, which is such a rarity in London,” Egle recalls. “It took me more time and convincing my stubborn self, but his charm, consistency and positive outlook on life won me over.”
Eight months later, Jason proposed. “It all sounds very quick, but when you know you know,” Egle says. They actually had two proposals. The first one was at home, down on one knee in the spur of the moment after the bespoke engagement ring that Jason ordered had arrived and he couldn’t keep it hidden any longer. “The second was the celebration. Jason organised a lovely day in London full or surprises and a gorgeous dinner.”
Ideal for intimate city nuptials, Chelsea Old Town Hall was the ceremony venue. “It’s simply iconic. We both lived and spent most of our time and dates in Chelsea and we’d walked past the Town Hall so many times and witnessed quite few ‘just married’ couples walking down those iconic stairs,” says Egle. “It’s such a pretty view, and we were glad to come back there for our own wedding,” she adds.
For the reception, the duo chose Zetter Townhouse Clerkenwell. “We loved its quirkiness and one-of-a-kind cabinet of curiosities!” says Egle. “We both wanted something with a lot of character, and it was perfect for our day. We had our wedding breakfast in the Games Room followed by dancing and cocktails in Wilhelmina’s Lounge. The staff at Zetter were extremely accommodating and a pleasure to work with and we had so much fun,” she says. They stayed in their largest room, The Apartment, the night before and for the wedding night. “I felt like I’d been transported back in time,” she says.
Guests were transported to Clerkenwell in a vintage Route Master bus. “We visited iconic London sights on the way there, it was a great addition to our day.”
Egle wore the Made with Love, River dress and looked stunning. “As we were opting for a town hall and not a church ceremony, I wanted something elegant and classy, as well as venue appropriate,” she says. “River was elegant, timeless and had a little sex appeal! I loved the simple crepe fabric for the bottom part and embellished deep V-neck top.” She accessorised with tulle gloves and a simple cathedral-length veil and carried a bouquet of nude roses. “I absolutely adored Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s wedding look – she’s the epitome of modern bridal elegance, and the beauty of simplicity. My tulle gloves were inspired by her,” she says. For the reception, Egle changed into a two-piece trouser and top combo from Galvan London. “I’ll get to wear it on other occasions, and it radiated modern elegance, which is right up my street. It was a spur of the moment purchase. I tried it on in Selfridges and I couldn’t leave without it,” she adds.
Jason looked handsome in a black tuxedo by Reiss and Egle’s bridesmaids wore burgundy dresses from Oasis and they chose their own shoes and accessories.
“I completely fell in love with the work of our florist,” says Egle. “I wanted flowerheavy, bold blooms with no foliage or greenery, and she provided exactly that. Our table flowers included maroon peonies and peachy nude, coffee latte and blush roses. I wanted something to my taste rather that what was trending right now,” she says.
For the centrepieces, matching flowers were placed in jam jars and surrounded by a mixture of ribbed and extra thin burgundy and nude candles.
“For our place names we processed animated polaroid pictures of our guests and instead of place cards, we asked them to find their faces, not their names,” Egle explains. “We sat everyone on four tables based on their relationship to us and named each table: Bride’s Ladies; Bride and Groom; Groom’s Family, Beloved Friends.”
For the favours, guests were treated to a gift-wrapped traditional Lithuanian mead drink. “Midus is consumed in Lithuania during weddings, so we continued that tradition,” says Egle.
Their two-tier lemon curd-flavoured cake was finished in buttercream and decorated with cascading rose petals that complemented the rest of the floral styling. Zetter Townhouse created the big-day menus. “We had Champagne on arrival, a three-course sit-down meal, followed by petit fours with tea and coffee and cocktails in the bar afterwards, it was all lovely,” she says.
A live vocalist performed a varied repertoire from 1920s swing to presentday pop and soul, vintage jazz and latin styles. “Everyone loved her, she was fantastic,” Egle recalls.
Looking back on their day, Egle and Jason have so many happy memories. “I love that Jason got teary at the altar and was trying his best not to burst into happy tears when he saw me,” she says.
“We thoroughly enjoyed our relaxed day and so did our guests. It was so ‘us’ and we wouldn’t change a thing.”

With everyone re-assessing their finances and their relationship with fast fashion, one of the most important considerations for picking a bridesmaid dress for 2023, will be finding a dress that you can wear again and again. One of the key bridesmaid colours will be sage green. This shade works wonders as it’s flattering to all skin tones whilst accentuating the white of the bridal gown. It also matches well with other light hues, such as lavender or peach. Alternatively, you can keep with the earth-toned theme and pair your sage green dress with khaki heels or an ivory cover-up.

There are so many different looks to choose from, but three-piece pant suits are popular because they offer comfort and a modern look. Like our bridal dresses, we’re seeing that 3D appliques and handstitching are proving to be extremely sought-after for the mother-of-thebride too.

In 2023, it’s time for the mother-of-the-bride to have a deserved fashion moment. It’s likely we’ll see more bold colours like royal blue, sunshine yellow and striking reds. Not only will stylish mums be bold with their choice of colour, they’re also expected to turn towards prints and unusual necklines. We’ll see the rise of non-dress options, such as jumpsuits, which are perfect for winter and summer weddings. Structured tailoring is everywhere right now, so if you want to really put your fashion foot forward, I’d recommend a two-piece suit, whether that’s a trouser suit or skirt and jacket.

That way, it helps to take the stress out of managing multiple suppliers and you can relax and enjoy it all. I’d suggest a brass section to play at the entrance to the ceremony. They could play traditional jazz or contemporary classics. We also have numerous options that could play during the ceremony, such as a soloist or ensemble. A saxophonist goes down well during your drinks reception and why not opt for a pianist during your wedding breakfast? Your evening party would then come to life with anything from a DJ set to a 12-piece party band to fill the dancefloor until your day comes to an end.
Why is it a great option?
Entertainment isn’t just about the music (although that’s a huge part), it’s also about how it all comes together to create a memorable experience. The right sound, staging and lighting can turn your day into the ultimate party and will make it truly special.
What’s your best piece of advice?
Don’t leave booking your entertainment suppliers until the last minute. Good reputable suppliers will book up well in advance and you don’t want to be disappointed!

Those looking for a quirky venue will love the idea of tying the knot on a ship! Hayley, owner of Hayley Jayne Photography was approached by HQS Wellington to help create a different look on board so couples can see what can be created within the various spaces. By bringing in key focal points and using the right colours through the flowers and props, the team of talented creatives transformed the space into a soft romantic setting – a concept that can be used across all venues. Here Hayley tells us more…
“We were drawn to HQS Wellington because it’d just opened its doors to the wedding market, and it was a different venue, rich in history with stunning views across London,” she says. “Stephanie from Monet Events created a mood board and decided on the ‘Romantically nautical’ theme. The colours were on trend and added something extra to the available interior in the ship. The soft dusky blues, greens and pinks really complemented the space available.”
Katrina Skybak Doyle from Cloud Hill Flowers set up the most amazing fresh displays full of meadow bows and arches that varied in height. “We wanted to create that romantic, luxury feel with an abundance of flowers in beautiful hues of blue, blush and lots of scented foliage,” says Katrina. “We used a mixture of Roses, Ranunculus, Hydrangeas, Peonies and Delphiniums to add texture and different dimensions to each arrangement. We also designed floral arches, columns and meadow boxes for the ceremony area and aisle, that were used for dressing the reception space too,” she explains. “We created a beautiful top table scene, using the meadow boxes on the floor at the front to create the opulent feel and then had the columns towards the back framing the whole look. We loved making the vision a reality with seasonal flowers.”
When it came to choosing a favourite shot, Hayley loved the indoor ceremony area under the canopy with the models. “The styling made an empty space look extraordinary, and the natural light flooding through and London backdrop made it even more beautiful to capture,” she says.

Nikita Lang, owner and photographer at Thorn and Found Photography teamed up with a group of suppliers to create this grand styled elopement shoot at The Natural History Museum.
“We wanted to showcase a one-of-a-kind luxury elopement, in the name of love, art and history,” says Nikita. “We felt this shoot brings all the inspiration for brides who are looking for that classic grand style but maybe also wanting a low-key celebration.” The team incorporated natural resources and fascinating architectural designs to bring the vision to life.
Choosing the museum as the shoot backdrop was a fabulous way of showcasing alternative venue options. “We included some traditional English styling into our concept. Our focus on the day was to inspire and tell a story. When we look at these pictures, we see a rare and precious love like the fossils imbedded the walls of the elopement venue, a love that comes from a connection of history, art and the environment around us,” says Nikita.
The stunning gown was designed by Miriam Chitambo. “Miriam has designed a very grand, luxury eco-friendly dress consisting of sustainable material. The underlayer of the dress is made from bamboo silk and recycled polyester satin and the lace layer is recycled nylon tulle. Luxury doesn’t mean it can’t be eco-friendly,” she says. The ruscus veil worked seamlessly with the bridal gown, bringing all the elegant drama with its beautiful embroidery work.
“For the make-up, we wanted to enhance but not over power our bride’s natural beauty, so we opted for a timeless but modern look,” explains Nikita. The darker lip and shadow complimented the grand dress and detailed background. Gold sleek jewellery was used to add the luxurious finishing touch. “Our bride wore the Kia ring and Isabella earrings from Gloss Studios, whose brand is known for its contemporary designs.”
For the flowers, a light and airy look was achieved with a seasonal white bouquet mixed with long green foliage for a stylish statement.

I recently attended a masterclass with Super Facialist’s resident skincare expert, Charlotte Connoley, which posed the question: do we really know our skin type? If like me your answer is somewhat hesitant, it may interest you to know that there’s an easy way to find out. Charlotte suggests simply splashing your face with water and leaving it for 20-25 minutes. If it feels prickly afterwards, you have sensitive skin; if the water’s gone, then it’s dry; if the skin is tight, it’s dehydrated; and if it feels perfectly comfortable you’re blessed with a normal skin type. Whatever you discover, Super Facialist has a range of products specifically tailored to each type, recognising this can change throughout the year. This allows you to affordably create your own individual skincare routine to support your skin throughout the seasons.
Having learned that my skin is dehydrated, I tried the divine Rosehip Hydrate Calming Creamy Cleanser (£9, www.lookfantastic.com) and my annoying dry patches have been banished!

The idea for Angela Langford as a brand started when Angela was working in a stressful, pressured, corporate job in Gibraltar, from which she was eventually made redundant. She knew she wasn’t meant for that world any longer, and set out to create her own business based on her passions. “I was travelling less, which meant I couldn’t easily get my favourite skincare from the UK anymore,” Angela says. “So, I started making my own products for personal use, with no intention of turning it into a career.” But, having discovered a love for the whole process, she did a lot of research and eventually decided to turn her new-found passion into a business, sharing her products with others. She went on to study cosmetic formulation in depth, which in turn opened up a completely new world for her.
Beauty editor Kelly Andrews chatted to Angela recently to find out more about the brand and its products, as well as how they can help you feel skin confident for your wedding day, complete with that gorgeous bridal glow.
possible I use glass jars and bottles, but this isn’t always compatible with the product. If a container is plastic, I use post-consumer recycled packaging. This is an area I work hard to constantly improve on, and over the years, I’ve made a great deal of progress.
Using high quality, concentrated products can help too, because you don’t need to purchase so often. Keeping your routine simple and using up what you do buy can also help.
What are your favourite skincare ingredients that you recommend we look out for?
This is a bit like being asked who your favourite child is, or in my case, favourite pet! It’s a tough one to answer, but I think oils rich in skin-loving omegas and essential fatty acids are vital for our skin’s health. Rosehip, chia seed, argan, and evening primrose are in a lot of my products and I always try to source organic versions.
I’m a huge fan of active plant ingredients too. My current favourites are electric daisy and sea buckthorn. The former has been referred to as nature’s botox and can help to smooth, firm and tighten our skin; whereas sea buckthorn is like a superfood for it. It has so many amazing benefits –it’s calming, soothing, repairing and can help with cell regeneration. Rich in vitamin C and anti-oxidants, it’s a skincare powerhouse, which is why I use it in my best-selling face oil, Bloom & Glow.
People are becoming more conscious of what’s in their skincare products as well as how its produced. How can we ensure our beauty products are as harmless to the environment as they are good for our skin?
I’m a very small-scale producer and I make everything myself in small batches. This means, there’s very little wastage and the products aren’t stored for months on end in a warehouse. I also use organic ingredients wherever available as these are also better for the environment.
We’re primarily an online brand, so I don’t use any outer packaging, and this small change can help to make a positive difference. Where
What would you recommend as the best approach for a bride or groom concerned about sensitive skin in the run up to the big day? Don’t introduce a new product to your skincare routine too close to your big day. Also, avoid any treatments or introducing new make-up. If you have regular facials, that’s fine, but going for something different a week beforehand may upset your skin. If you’re having your make-up applied by a professional, make sure you discuss this with them during your trial and ask to use your own make-up products if you’re worried.
Can you suggest a skincare regime that will ensure skin is in tip-top condition, providing the perfect base for a W-day make-up artist? Cleanse every morning and evening. A double cleanse with a balm or
“My aim is to make people feel great about their skin no matter their age. When we feel good about our skin, we feel better about ourselves in general, so my goal is just that – to help you feel great.”

oil in the evening is great too. The first will remove the make-up and SPF, the second is to cleanse the skin. Unless you’re very sensitive or have rosacea, I’d recommend using an exfoliator twice a week too in the evening after cleansing. Look for something with fruit acids (AHAs), which help to slough away dead, dull skin.
A once-a-week brightening face mask will really help to liven up your complexion and even out skintone. As long as you introduce them a few months in advance of your wedding, a mask the night before is wonderful. It will help to soften and smooth your skin ready for flawless make-up application and it’ll help you to relax too. Also, be sure to moisturise daily, keep skin hydrated with a tonic, and by drinking plenty of water.
Finally, if there’s one thing I think can make an enormous difference, it’s using a face oil. Even if your skin is oily, it can really help and there’s one out there for everyone. Brightening and balancing versions are wonderful, and you can use a drop after your make-up has been applied for extra luminosity.
What would you suggest to those worried about congested or oily skin and the effect this will have on their overall make-up look?
I always come back to cleansing as the key to great skin, yet it’s often the step people either skip entirely or skimp on. Cleansing wipes are a real no-no for me, they just move dirt around your skin and don’t cleanse properly. They aren’t great for the environment either, so I’d really avoid these.
The other important thing, particularly when you have oily skin, is to choose balancing products. Often, those aimed at this particular skin type are harsh and strip skin of its natural oils. This doesn’t solve the problem though, in fact it has the opposite effect, making your skin panic into producing even more oil.
It may surprise you to know that oil isn’t the enemy, being oil-free can be though. I even advise people with oily skin to use a facial oil in the evening. It can take time to get used to, and might take longer to even consider, as it does sound counter-intuitive! The key is to use the right
ones – light, easily absorbed and balancing are what you need. Look for ingredients including rosehip, kiwi, thistle (also known as safflower) and jojoba, all great for oily, congested and combination skin. Massage a couple of drops into clean skin every night. Plus, if you aren’t sensitive to them, essential oils can also help to clear congested skin. Look out for palamarosa, cypress, bergamot, lemon, lemongrass and rose geranium.
When is the best time to make changes/improvements to a skincare regime in preparation for a wedding?
It can take time for our skin to adjust to new products and new ingredients. When you try something new, it’s not unusual for your skin to become dry or for you to experience a little redness or even breakouts. This is just our skin adjusting. It does depend on the individual and also what products your skin is used to, but to be safe, I’d give yourself at least two months to introduce changes and new products. This also leaves time for you to see the results.
What products couldn’t you live without?
I use either Clean Sweep Cleansing Balm, and I Can See Clearly Now Make-up Remover. I then follow with a second cleanse using Sweet Cheeks Non-Foaming Face Wash. I exfoliate a few times a week using Scrub Up Exfoliator and use Look on the Bright Side Face Mask once a week – mixing it with some Freshen Up and a few drops of Bloom & Glow. In the day I’m never far away from a bottle of Freshen Up Hydrating Skin Tonic – I love to use it when my skin needs a hydrating boost. Most of the time I use A Little Lift Serum followed by Bloom & Glow face oil in the day and at night Bloom & Glow or Repair & Renew face oil on its own – I just love face oils and the benefits they have on our skin.

WhenI met with celebrity hairstylist and OGX ambassador, Michael Douglas to mark the launch of OGX’s new Colour Retention range, I can say with confidence that I was definitely having colour retention problems. I’d recently taken the plunge with my dream pastel violet hair colour, but my beloved shade was quickly running away from me. Michael very kindly offered to top my colour up, and while he mixed together a stunning new violet for me, I asked him about OGX’s new range. “All of the brand’s products are PH-balanced with sulphate-free surfactants, which don’t bind to anything you don’t want them to meaning they’re all very gentle on colour,” he told me.
I’m sure we can all agree that there’s not much better than that fresh-from-the-salon feeling, which is why OGX created the new collection, to extend salon or at home colour for up to four weeks. The new products also contain a colour bond plex technology, which helps to protect and strengthen strands for healthylooking, vibrant hair.
With the gorgeous colour applied, Michael began to style my short crop and I was curious whether he had any advice for brides-to-be thinking about colouring their locks pre-
problems are actually in styling products. OGX do a heat protection spay that I use all the time as a blow-dry spray, along with the fantastic Air Dry Cream, it’s brilliant.”
wedding. He said, “It’s so high risk isn’t it? Do not do anything experimental, that’s the main thing! A lot of people seem to want to look like someone else on their wedding day, but I always think it’s better to look like the best, sexiest version of you – make you look great that day!
“Unless you wear your hair up a lot though, I never think it’s such a good idea. Remember, photos are forever. My favourite look was when Jennifer Aniston married Brad Pitt. She had great hair, everyone knew her for her that. So, actually she just had it down with some little diamonds sewn into it on a thin thread, which pinned it really nicely. I’ve tried the technique myself with a thin fishing wire woven through the hair before a blow dry and it just supports the style beautifully.”
Michael continued, “I also like the idea of doing something for the day and changing it up for the evening.” I was totally on board with this, having noticed an increasing trend in brides pulling off an outfit switch-up between the ‘I dos’ and celebrations. Michael suggested: “There‘s something nice about having the hair scraped back for the morning and then something a wavy in the evening or vice versa.”
By now, I was delighted with my own hair and wanted to know more about achieving the same look at home. After all, we can’t all have a celebrity hair stylist on call! He said, “A lot of people want frizz-free shiny hair and ask me on Instagram what shampoo and conditioner they need to buy, but it’s actually down to styling technique. Use a decent bristle brush with a metal barrel, hold the dryer at a particular angle for a long time, about four seconds longer than you think you need to, and keep the brush moving. So, how did you come to work with OGX as it’s brand ambassador? I asked. “During lockdown when all the hairdressers shut down, I decided to go on social media and talk about the best consumer products to use at home. I was getting around 4,000 people a day watching the lives, so a lot of brands got in touch asking me to talk about their products and OGX offered to send me some of its range. When I realised that most of my audience aren’t going to be spending £20 on a bottle of shampoo, yet were the very people asking for help, I agreed to try them. When I saw the huge range of products all PH balanced and with sulphate-free surfactants, at £6.99-£7.99 a bottle, it peaked my interest. I was able to send hundreds of OGX goodies out to my followers, and you wouldn’t believe the amount of people who came back to me saying how much they loved them. We shot 45 one-minute videos for OGX looking at common hair problems with the products to solve them. It’s a great match!”
I left the studio with a spring in my step confirming that indeed, it is difficult to beat the feeling of a fresh new do!

Feeling the pressure to get everything right and done on time is inevitable when it comes to wedding planning. With a seemingly endless todo list and preparing to expect the unexpected, the sense of overwhelm can quickly take over. This, in turn, results in its own issues such as impaired sleep, digestive issues, skin breakouts, low mood and anxiety. While it isn’t helpful to tell someone planning their big day to simply not stress, thinking about ways to support a stressed body and maintain overall good health, can help prevent some of these unwanted symptoms and make the whole process more manageable.
Read on to discover five ways to support yourself against stress in the run up to your wedding day, courtesy of Minal Sudra and Elizabeth Andrews at Wedding Wellness...
One of the most underrated activities when it comes to your health is a good night’s sleep. Quality sleep isn’t purely about how many hours of shut-eye you get, but also about being mindful of eating and lifestyle habits, and how they can affect rest. When we consistently sleep well, our brains and bodies are more resilient, making us better at healing, fighting infection, concentrating and making decisions.
Avoid alcohol and caffeine in the run up to bed time, as both disrupt the brain’s natural restorative activity and block deep sleep, which is key to optimal health.
Exercise is great for physical health but
movement is just as important for our mental health, and ability to handle stress. Our bodies react to stress in the same way they might if encountering a bear in the wilderness! Allowing them the chance to move and release the build up of tension that comes from being in a stressful state, helps them to calm down and return to a state of normal. Movement in any shape or form also encourages deep or mindful breathing, which is another brilliant way of reducing stress and calming the mind and body. Aim for at least 20-30 minutes of your movement of choice per day.
The reason stress is so harmful is that it causes damage to the body known as oxidative stress. This can result in aches and pains, slow healing and a higher chance of catching a cold. Eating foods that help reduce this damage, are commonly referred to as antiinflammatory, as they promote healing and calm the stress response, aiding everything from gut and hormonal health to improving mood. Some of the best anti-inflammatory foods to include in your meals are: berries, ginger, garlic, dark green leafy vegetables, oily fish, nuts and seeds, avocado and wholegrains.
When you have an endless to-do list, it’s easy to assume every spare moment should be used to work through as much of it as possible. Taking
proper breaks and using that time to actually relax, will calm your otherwise overworked nervous system and help your body return to a rested state. Use those moments to distract yourself with something calming, such as music, conversation or a proper lunch break away from a screen. Not only will this help reduce how stressed you feel, you will digest meals better and feel less fatigued too.
It might sound obvious, but one of the best things you can do for your health is to eat wholesome, balanced meals at a regular time each day. The body loves habit and thrives on routine, so regular meals will help nourish and support a stressed body. Making sure you’re eating foods that include complex carbs will help you maintain energy, support normal body function and improve general health. Look for wholegrains and vegetables; protein like fish, chicken, beans and pulses; and healthy fats such as oily fish, nuts, seeds, avocado and olive oil.

Q – When I’m stressed, it shows in my skin. What tips have you got for naturally improving my complexion?
Did you know that apart from making you feel energized, the benefits of oranges for the skin are many? This fruit is essential as it packs a punch of Vitamin C that your skin will love. Here are six beauty benefits of why orange deserves a spot in your skincare routine…
•Prevents acne: The citric acid helps to control oil. Its acidic properties foster the opening of pores and carefully cleanse the debris off your face. It also controls excess sebum production, which prevents breakouts.
•Controls aging: Vitamin C helps to even out your skin tone and texture by accelerating the production of collagen. By restoring the elasticity in your skin, its appearance becomes firmer, while keeping wrinkles at bay.
•Exfoliates: The antioxidant properties help to exfoliate the skin and keep infections, and impurities at bay.
•Contains hydrating properties: Its moisturising properties help to lock in skin moisture and get plump, supple, glowing skin. It boosts the blood flow to your face, pampering your skin with oxygen and keeping it clear.
•Brightens up the skin: Vitamin C helps to reduce dark spots and reveal a more even-toned glow.
•Reduces inflammation: If you’re dealing with irritated, sensitive skin, orange contains anti-inflammatory properties that help to heal redness and inflammation.

Pranab Das | Moksha Bodycare | https://mokshabodycare.ukQ – I want to get into shape and tone up. Where do I start?
Q – My natural dark hair is quite dull. What can I do to lift it for my bridal style?
I recommend adding layers of highlights and tonal corrections. It’s important to respect your natural base colour and the health of your hair as much as possible. Ask your stylist to hand-paint fine lustrous layers of highlights and total corrections. This will create a harmonious blend of colour, ensuring hair grows out naturally and avoiding the need for regular visits to the salon. The Limoz Signature Colour is a subtle way of lightening your hair that’s done so precisely and delicately. It should last for three months dependant on your hair, so no need for six-weekly appointments.
This season, lightening colour services are popular. Since the recent transformations of Margot Robbie and Hailey Bieber, we’re seeing more demand for a more natural colour approach. Clients are moving away from the more dramatic sun-kissed face framing and instead requesting deep nourishing treatments, colour glosses and requesting to move closer to their natural base with more subtle face framing, low lights and natural root drags. We’ve been working like this for years but the demand for a natural lift and seamless colour with subtle depth is on the rise.
What’s even more desirable about this trend is when summer comes around, your hair is a cleaner healthier canvas for those natural sun-kissed lights. We want to eliminate all blockiness and dramatic regrowths.
Adding lightness to the hair is the perfect look for a bride as this subtle change will instantly make your hair look more polished naturally, and even more so when it’s styled. This look is beautiful when it hits the natural daylight too.
Embarking on a healthier lifestyle is sure to make you feel and look fabulous on your big day. You’ll be oozing confidence and that’ll shine through on your pics. There’s so much advice that I could share with you but here are my top tips:
•Time – The sooner you start the better results you’ll have. For example, getting some definition in the arms will take about 12 weeks of training three times a week. Put some long-term goals together and break those down into short-term targets to make it feel achievable.
•Diary – Will you make yourself go to the gym? Maybe you just have 30 minutes a day spare and will benefit more from an online personal trainer or online classes at home. Put it in the diary and do it!
•Be committed – I personally love classes with music. Try a few different classes, but when you find the one you like, sign up to 10 or more. That way you’re committed to go.
•Cut out the booze – Swap the after-work drinks for a speed walk or run with a colleague or friend. You’ll start to enjoy being hangover-free the next day and a lot fitter instead.
•Diet diary – Keep a diet diary for three weeks. It’ll be clearer where the extra calories are coming from and naturally easier to cut down. Once you realise ketchup could be adding an extra 70 calories to your meal, or the bottle of wine you drink is 800 calories, you’ll be more inclined to cut back.
•Hire a pro – Keep motivated by contacting a personal trainer or a health coach to help make your goals more specific and help you put a precise program together.

Mercedes Gale, owner of event décor business, 4YaParty Weddings and Events, is on a mission to make the wedding industry more inclusive. She wanted to organise a shoot that not only represents diversity in the wedding industry but also shows how to throw a sustainable celebration… in rustic style! “As a bride-to-be, I’d been struggling to see brides that look like me and inspiration that resonates,” says Mercedes. “A plus size bride and an interracial couple is just the type of big-day inspiration that I would’ve loved to see while wedding planning, so I create the inspiration I longed for”.
It’s also Mercedes goal to reassure couples that going down a sustainable route doesn’t mean compromising on beauty. “This rustic-styled shoot inspired by the bold red tones associated with love was made up of almost all reused items. The suit was one the groom already owned, the props and décor were upcycled, reusable or made from reclaimed wood and the jewellery is made from reclaimed silver,” says Mercedes. Almost all the suppliers were local London based and if they weren’t, they posted their items to reduce the carbon footprint.
“It’s no secret that the world needs to move towards a more sustainable future and your wedding day can be a big part of that!” she says.

Spring’s all about the flowers. What blooms and foliage would you suggest for a gorgeous seasonal bouquet?
Large and trailing bouquets are on their way out in 2023, according to the opinion of industry leaders. This is good news for your budget, and what’s more, you’ll be more comfortable carrying a smaller bouquet. The goal is not to overpower or detract from the design of the gown but to tastefully accent it with delicate florals.
Spring is a wonderful time to get married because you have such a variety of pastel and vibrant blooms to choose from. The pictured pastel-themed bouquet is teaming with a selection of blush, pink and ivory scented Roses with a liberal sprinkling of coral Astilbe, light blue Delphiniums, delicate lemon Green Bells and the ever-versatile true-blue
This time of the year lends itself to having fun in the fresh air. What do you suggest is a great crowd pleaser for getting our guests together during the afternoon?
Everyone loves to have fun, so why not add games into the mix? It’s great seeing children and adults playing games together and having fun on a beautiful summer’s day.
Our popular choices for weddings have been the giant Connect 4, giant Snakes and Ladders, Space Hoppers (adults and children), giant Jenga, croquet and lawn boules. We’ve also been asked to supply games for younger children such as Mini Golf, Quoits and Mini Skittles.
Another way to bring people together is through food! We have a large metal candy cart, that can be used for drinks, light snacks, and other sweet treats and a sweet stand for all your favourites. Both come decorated with flowers. What stands about the cart is that it’s got a vintage look and it’s made of metal, not the usual wooden carts you generally see.
Emily Moore | Classic Giant Games | www.classicgiantgames.comEucalyptus framing the bottom. Always choose seasonal blooms to keep costs down – you have a wide selection to choose from between January and May. Anemones, Peonies, Hyacinths, Tulips, Ranunculi, Lilacs, Sweet Peas, Narcissi, Roses, and the super elegant Lily of the Valley are the flowers of choice for spring bouquets as some come in a variety of colours and are fresh and vibrant in appearance.
Add a sense of drama by being lavish with your ribbons and stem bindings and use accent pearl, diamante, feathers and dried flower accessories for the finishing touch.
If it’s a traditional ivory and green palette you’re looking for, try to use seasonal blooms such as Roses, Gypsophila, Lisianthus and some allyear-available species such as Astilbe, Antirrhinums and Stocks.
Rebecca Paulraj | Becca Blooms | https://beccablooms.comWe’re just starting our venue search and would love somewhere with outdoor options. What tips can you share for finding the perfect setting?
Firstly, no matter what month you tie the knot in, the weather might not be on your side, so you need to be prepared. Always look for a venue where you love the indoor and outdoor spaces equally. The Rosendale in leafy West Dulwich offers both options, including large and small private rooms and three picturesque gardens.
Ask if you can decorate the outdoor area. We’re very happy for you to decorate our Side Garden at The Rosendale so it’s in-keeping with the rest of your theme. Would you like food cooked outside too? Our hog roasts are always a big hit with guests. Does your outdoor setting have the option of shade? We have large umbrellas as well as plenty of space for sun worshippers. Remember, photos look great with natural light, so look out for lots of great backdrops. Our couples always choose outside our entrance for their pics, which is particularly beautiful. Check whether the outdoor space has any additional entertainment, such as a children’s play area. We benefit from having that along with table tennis and boules to keep guests young and old entertained.
Kate Lester | The Rosendale | www.therosendale.co.ukWe’d love a colourful showstopper for our big-day bake. What designs and flavours are great for a spring wedding?
There are so many ways to bring the season into your cake design. If you’re going for fresh florals, stay local and climate-friendly if you can. Freesias, for example, are non-toxic spring bloomers that come in several colours including pink, lilac and yellow, plus they smell amazing. Pressed edible flowers are another strikingly beautiful, seasonal, and safe choice. For spring months, daisies, and sweet violets (from reputable sources, of course) are both pretty, edible florals with delicate flavours that shouldn’t interfere with the taste of your cake. Sprinkles of colour from dried cornflour petals or pansies can also be used to tie together the elements on a dessert table with elegance.
I love to use non-edible dried coloured florals and foliage such as palm spears, and couple them with decorative dyed wafer paper sails and shards. They’re all vibrant and striking, and it allows me to customise the colours to fit precisely with my clients’ chosen colour scheme at any time of the year. Hand-painted decorations such as white chocolate shards or multicoloured chocolate ‘paint’ splatter are another colourful signature Den Bake Shop style.
Flavour-wise, I like a little classic citrus, some medium spice options and some sunshine inspiring ingredients in the spring. From my menu, I’d go for tiers of carrot and ginger and lemon poppyseed, with cake canapés in pistachio almond mango and chocolate salted caramel.

Aftera speedy trip on the Eurostar and a leisurely stroll, we arrived at the Shangri-La Paris. With all that Paris has to offer, the actual accommodation you find yourself using can often feel like an afterthought. However, with the history and majesty of the Shangri-La Paris, the hotel is as much a tourist destination as the Louvre, Arc de Triomphe or even the Eiffel Tower. A former home of Prince Roland Bonaparte, overlooking the River Seine, the hotel is centrally located in the 16th arrondissement and seamlessly blends European grandeur with traditional Asian hospitality.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by a welcoming member of the hotel concierge who checked in our bags while we were given a guided tour. The building is a stunning feat of architecture and the location alone is enough to take your breath away. The hotel has plenty of stand-out features (too many to mention), but the impressive marble-lined swimming pool converted from the former stables, the relaxing spa, state-of-the-art health club and stunning entrance hall are all must-sees.
If you want to relax with a drink in your hand, then you’ll feel right at home in the stunningly decorated Le Bar Botaniste or Les Lounges, both of which offer a friendly and impressive service.
Catching our breath for a moment, we were shown to our suite. In all honesty, the view of the Eiffel Tower a few hundred feet away, in plain sight of our room, made it very hard to focus on the suite itself for a good few minutes! But after wiping the stardust from our eyes, we discovered that we had been treated to a magnificent space. The biggest bed I’d ever seen, a walk-in wardrobe and a lavish bathroom greeted us; with every aspect of the room designed around that view. The attention to detail was beyond anything I could have imagined with every amenity you could possibly need at your fingertips.
One of my favourite aspects was the balcony, which showed the tower in all its splendour and views of the city at every turn. Sitting there with a cup of tea and homemade macarons was one of the highlights of the trip, and I opted to be out on the balcony every spare moment I had.
There are two restaurants at Shangri-La Paris, both of which are beautifully decorated with stand-out food. Shang Palace, where I had the pleasure of dining, is France’s only Michelin-starred Chinese restaurant and what a treat it was! Inspired by Southeast China’s culinary traditions, the restaurant offers authentic Chinese cuisine by chef Samuel Lee.
With so much choice, we were a little lost for words, but thankfully the charming hostess was very helpful and suggested options that she felt we would enjoy.
Every dish was incredible and the food complemented the surroundings perfectly. We started with the chef’s special sashimi; immaculately prepared, it set the standard for what was to follow. The lobster dumplings were a particular favourite of mine and is something I’d eat every day if possible. After several dishes, it was safe to say I was stuffed, but when the dessert arrived, I couldn’t help myself; the rice balls with mixed fruits and whipped cream was delicious and one of the best desserts I’ve ever had. If you’re looking for a once-in-a-lifetime meal, then this is it. It’s been months since we visited, but we still talk about how delicious everything was.
With such awe-inspiring surroundings, we couldn’t resist a short stroll over to the Trocadéro and across the Seine to the Eiffel Tower. As beautiful a sight at night as during the day, we couldn’t believe our fortune.
When we eventually headed back to the hotel, we wearily made our way up to our bedroom. The suite had an impressive TV, but it almost felt like a redundancy next to the view from the windows. I’m typically a blackout sleeper, but on this occasion, I had to sleep with the curtains wide open.
After a wonderful night’s sleep, we ordered breakfast to our room and enjoyed it out on our balcony terrace. Barely noticing the brisk February weather, we dined in what felt like the historic heart of Paris. Breakfast was up to the high standards we’d come to expect from the Shangri-La Paris, and when it came to checking out, we felt devastated to be leaving.
I can say with absolute certainty that we left with our chi restored and look forward to returning in the near future!

For our second evening in Paris, we had the fortune of being hosted by the Hôtel Dame des Arts. Just a stone’s throw from Notre-Dame, it’s located in the Latin Quarte, which is considered the artistic heart of Paris. The hotel boasts terrace rooms looking out to the Eiffel Tower, a spacious and luxurious rooftop bar, and a charming secret garden courtyard – a gem in the centre of a bustling, metropolitan area.
Entering through a sleek, sliding door, we felt like we’d been invited into an ultra-secretive club. The hotel’s lobby, with its dark motif, stylish sofas and low lighting simultaneously blended Art Deco architecture with the feel of a futuristic nightclub. After checking in, we were shown up to our room, which continued the theme exhibited in the lobby. The architectural vision of the hotel is singular, drawing you completely into the world the owners have created.
Our room was the natural extension of the hotel; with all the amenities any couple could desire. Every aspect had been well thought out and cleverly made use of the space available. A sliding, frosted-glass door separated the bedroom from the bathroom area, and the use of lighting and sleek, curved panelling made us feel like we were on the set of a high-budget movie. Our room even had a terrace looking out to the Eiffel Tower, bringing us back into the heart of Paris.
After dropping off our bags, we were given a guided tour of the hotel. The beautifully arranged restaurant and bar giving way through an impressive door to a stunning garden space. A mix of comfortable furniture and grounding flora, the tranquillity of the area makes you forget being mere feet away from the busy streets surrounding the hotel – a true feat. Our next stop was the hotel’s gym. The curved, wooden panelling enveloping the walls of the room is really a sight to behold. The final stop of our tour was the building’s rooftop terrace, and I assure you, our guide had saved the best for last. The terrace looks out in every direction across Paris, choosing a seating location is an almost impossible task!
Major sightseer locations such as the Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame and the Panthéon are all visible from the terrace; with stunning pieces of Parisian history everywhere you look. I can imagine sitting at the bar on a summer’s evening watching the sun go down over one of the most beautiful cities in the world being a truly transformative experience.
Once our tour had ended, we made our way down to the restaurant for dinner. Starting with a cocktail in hand, the space had a buzzing atmosphere and was full of people laughing and enjoying the splendour. My hubby and I ordered the corn ribs with magic mayo and cotija cheese as a starter and were impressed by the delicious taste and presentation. After examining the menu and struggling to choose just one dish for our main, we asked our friendly waiter for his recommendations. We chose to share the pork ribs in a Roja and Verde sauce, and when it arrived at our table, we were both incredibly excited for what was to come. Every part was wonderful, and although we were sure we wouldn’t be able to fit any dessert, when we saw the menu, we just had to try the chocolate ganache cake with coffee cream. I’m a big sweet person, so the dessert ticked all of my boxes, and I would happily eat it over and over again if I could!
After a busy few days exploring the city, it’s safe to say we were in need of some sleep. As soon as my head hit the pillow, I drifted off and awoke never wanting to leave.
When we eventually motivated ourselves to go downstairs for breakfast, everything looked delicious and we couldn’t decide between the continental or cooked option or which of the vast array of drinks to go for. The food was delicious and when it came to checking out, we felt incredibly sad to be leaving and wished we could re-live the experience all over again. We’ll be heading back to Paris soon, and when we do, we’ll definitely be staying at both of these fabulous hotels again.
