Top tips for outdoor weddings
YOUR VENUE YOUR WAY
Tilgate Park has long been known as a top visitor destination in the heart of the south. Fans come from far and wide to enjoy more than 200 acres of woodland, gardens, lakes and even a mini zoo. Now this beautiful venue has opened its doors for unique weddings.
THE WALLED GARDEN
Playing host to peaceful formal gardens and ponds, an evergreen hedge maze, events arena and cafe, the Walled Garden is the perfect location for celebrations like yours.
Entering the magnificent tall wooden gates of the Walled Garden, it’s like stepping into a secret garden, being greeted by a 40-metre long pergola of beautiful wisteria, roses, clematis and grape vines. The Family Garden within has been transformed into a magical private garden, able to seat up to 100 guests either side of the aisle leading to a wooden arbour where the ceremony can take place.
Afterwards, it’s the ideal location to serve your guests with some prereception drinks whilst you take the opportunity to explore the rest of the park with your photographer. For something different, animal lovers may want to visit the Nature Centre to take photos with the fun-loving meerkats or adorable goats.
EVENTS ARENA
At the other end of the pergola, the Arena is the perfect location to host a wedding breakfast and/or evening reception in our brand new marquee. Our 24m x 12m marquee is fully lined with ivory drapes, has chandeliers, fairy lights, and a hard floor which is carpeted. It also includes an amazing Zone Array speaker system which provides fantastic sound for dancing but also ensures your guests can chat amongst themselves comfortably whilst sitting only a few metres away.
Outside the marquee the Arena, which measures more than 1,000 square metres, provides ample room for extra entertainment like giant garden games, a mobile bar or catering and it’s conveniently located next to the evergreen hedge maze where both young and old enjoy finding each other around each twist and turn.
Although there’s no guarantee that the sun will shine, we have the advantage of also having The Barn, which is licensed, so you can choose to move indoors if you prefer.

Crowning glory
Whatwith last month’s incredible coronation and the launch of Netflix’s Queen Charlotte, I’m reeling from all things royal at the moment, and feeling very proud indeed to be British! Whether you’re a royalist yourselves, or merely found your May all the merrier being blessed with an extra bank holiday, there’s been something to celebrate. I always think of our readers as queens and kings, princess and princes, and believe you all deserve the royal treatment on your big day, so why not consider adding a regal edge to your nuptials?
Jewel-toned colour palettes are certainly seeing a surge in popularity, thanks to their opulent, rich hues; and shades such as purple and red have long been associated with royalty. When it comes to dining, think banqueting tables bedecked in gold cutlery and crystal, with tall candelabra and centrepieces. Of course, add this styling to a stately home wedding venue and you’re there!
EDITORIAL
Deputy Managing Editor Kelly Andrews | 01376 535 611 kelly.andrews@county.wedding
When it comes to your attire, what could be more royal than a ballgown? Pair a full, extravagant skirt with a dramatic train and veil, and you’ll have guests gasping as you make your grand entrance. If you like this idea, but fear the volume will impede you on the dancefloor, opt for a detachable skirt, allowing you to transform your look into a sleek silhouette for the evening. Finally, your very own crown is a must-have for this theme, whether it’s a flower version for a Queen Titania twist or a bejewelled tiara.
As we enter the summer well and truly ready for some sunshine, don’t miss our host of styled shoots and real weddings this issue, all waiting to inspire as you plan for your big day.
Enjoy and keeeep planning!

NEW COLLECTIONS AND BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS
Brighton’s Jeremy Hoye is a name synonymous with jewellery design excellence and his shop, approaching it’s 30th anniversary, has become a must-visit destination for anyone looking for high quality jewellery. In celebration of this milestone, his new collections offer affordable and showstopping pieces in his signature style. Forest and Luna, like many of his designs, draw inspiration from nature.
Forest is a beautifully textured design with a natural flowing feel that catches the light to dazzling effect. Inspired by the ripples of sand on the seashore or tree bark from forest walks, these pieces are about evoking memories.
The iconic Luna collection, on the other hand, is designed especially for the individualist! Inspired by the surface of the moon, with its undulating plains of craters and valleys, Luna offers a fantastic selection of unusual wedding rings for men and women in addition to silver rings, necklaces, bracelets. Every item from this collection can be made in silver, gold or platinum.
Jeremy says, “Whether you’re looking for a piece of jewellery for a special occasion or just because, there’s something for everyone. I create unique and timeless treasures that last well beyond any passing fashion trends, truly standing the test of time. I believe that’s been the secret to longevity and success over the years.”

EXCITING MOVE
DOUBLE DELIGHTS FROM THE GRAND HOTEL, EASTBOURNE
The team at The Grand Hotel have certainly been busy these last few weeks! In May, the hotel launched a bespoke London Dry Gin called the Grand Gin, created by Hawkridge Distillers. To coincide with the launch, a range of exciting new signature gin cocktails have been added to its menu offering as well as a selection of gin-infused dishes created by the executive chef – you can never have too much gin if you ask us!
What’s more, in April, in aid of World Earth Day the hotel, which is part of Elite Hotels, decided it was time to take action and improve the beach experience for their visitors with a staff beach clean.
The ‘White Palace’ as the hotel is known to locals is opposite a lovely stretch on Eastbourne’s promenade, so 14 members of hotel staff took to the beach on what was a windy and rainy morning, to help litter pick and clean the beach.
Shining a spotlight on climate change and environmental causes, organisers Billie-Jo Clarke, sales and marketing manager, and Chris Butler, healthclub manager, were inspired to run The Grand Hotel’s first beach clean to help support local businesses along the promenade.
A total of 11 bags of mixed rubbish were collected with all the equipment provided by Neil Peters, Community Recycling Engagement Officer of Environment First, at Lewes District Council and Eastbourne Borough Councils. Learn more at The Grand Hotel at www.grandeastbourne.com
Renowned bridal boutique Fross Wedding Collections moved premises in May to Crockstead Farm Hotel, Uckfield. Owner, Fross says, “For all brides who have appointments booked after this date, have purchased and are awaiting fittings or have stored your dress with us, please don’t worry; we’re only approximately five minutes away by car from where we currently are and contact details will all remain the same. We look forward to welcoming you all at our new boutique.”

MINI-MOONING IN SUSSEX
Lansdowne House is a Regency guest house recently launched in the East Sussex seaside resort of Hove, located just a three-minute walk to the beach. The townhouse offers four guest bedrooms and a selfcontained two bedroom apartment, situated in a Heritage Conservation area designed by the renowned architect Charles Busby.
Owners Tom and Natalie met in the art world working as specialists at a London auction house. Keen to embrace the seaside lifestyle, they decided to move with their son from East London to the East Sussex coast. The move coincided with the nation entering the pandemic’s first lockdown, just as the housing market came to a halt. So, they spent the next eighteen months renovating the house, filling each room with the collected antiques and design pieces they have amassed during their careers.
Greeted with refreshments upon arrival, guests enter the house via the beautiful hallway with the original sweeping staircase and cast-iron balustrading. Each room has been designed with relaxation in mind, with the use of calming pastel colours and stylish interiors that highlight the period features of the home. Taking inspiration from the heritage of the building, art and antiques can be found throughout.
PAMPERED PAWS
Author and TV Celebrity Lady Colin Campbell has launched a new range of K9 couture wedding and clothing attire: Little Lords & Ladies. We know you’re going to love it as much as we do! Lady C, owner of Castle Goring, Worthing, is also inviting the four-legged loved ones of couples marrying at the castle to join their owners on their special day.
The new collection was established with friend and fellow dog lover, Lisa Carmel, with many of the garments consisting of beautifully lined harnesses onto which ‘extras’ can be added including custom-made ring-bearer pillows allowing couples to have their fur baby play a major role in the union of their owners.
The items have been created with a considerable amount of attention paid to details, like little handkerchiefs tucked into jacket pockets, crisp white shirt collars, detachable custom-made bow ties, flower brooches, pearl and lace trims, all designed and made locally to the Castle by professional dog-loving seamstresses who can also provide a measuring and fitting service.
The full range of Lady C’s Lords & Ladies garments will soon be available on the Castle Goring website although the couture range is available now.
Go to https://castlegoring.com/dogs-at-weddings to find out more.
Natalie and Tom’s passion for good food is evident in the sourcing of local produce for breakfast. Guests can relax with breakfast in bed or venture down to the garden room where double doors open out onto the original walled garden. Weather depending, breakfast can also be served here in the summer months. Lansdowne House is a place to recline, exhale and enjoy the comforts of home.

DINE AND STAY AT SUSSEX PUB
Situated in a busy village in the heart of English Wine Country, The White Hart Wadhurst is a pub and restaurant that celebrates its place in the Sussex countryside by supporting local producers, growers and winemakers across its food and drink offering. Its recent opening also saw the launch of three beautifully designed boutique bedrooms, perfect for those looking to immerse themselves in this picturesque area of the Weald and discover the wealth of English vineyards right on the doorstep.
The three rooms feature contemporary takes on classic design with luxury finishes and nods to the surrounding area. Freestanding stone baths, sophisticated Farrow & Ball colour palettes, sumptuous fabrics and crisp linen are complemented by homely additions and views across the Weald. The atmospheric Hart Suite is perfect for a romantic getaway, featuring a sultry dark colour palate, a Lusso stone his-and-hers sink and two-person Lusso stone bath. Panelled walls, hardwood floors and pops of colour from an olive-green wingback king bed and colourful rugs are enhanced by brushed gold accents and far-reaching views over Snape Wood. The Birch bedroom complements earthy greens with black and wood tones, brought together with bronze finishes and botanical prints.
A GLASS, OR TWO...
Meanwhile, the Bewl bedroom pairs deep aubergine walls, a pink-tiled bathroom and natural rattan with gold leaf and bamboo patterned wallpaper. Each room is soundproofed, and guests can enjoy fresh banana bread and a bottle of English sparkling wine on arrival. Bed and breakfast starts from £150 per couple; while dinner, bed and breakfast starts from £220 per couple. Check out www.thewhitehartwadhurst.com
Mannings Heath Estate near Horsham in West Sussex has opened a delightful new Wine Lounge and Vineyard Kitchen Restaurant. Your Sussex Wedding editor, Kelly Andrews, went along to find out more.
The stylish and welcoming spaces here offer guests a memorable dining experience that'll have you going back for more! There are a wealth of dining options such as lunch and afternoon tea, including a range of food and wine pairings featuring wines from Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate in South Africa, which I can highly recommend.
Penny Streeter OBE is the owner of the Benguela Collection wine and hospitatlity group, which includes Mannings Heath Estate and nearby Leonardslee Lakes and Gardens, as well as the Benguela Cove vineyards. "The new Wine Lounge is the cellar door of the award-winning Benguela Cove wines," says Barry Anderson, estate managing director. Indeed, the wine theme has been carried throughout the new dining areas, which cater to a range of events including hen parties and intimate weddings. The Wine Lounge can accommodate 24 guests, while the Vineyard Kitchen Restaurant seats up to 50, with comfortable sofa seating available in both areas.
With an oh-so modern palette of soft sage green, these spaces also feature subtle nods to the property's heritage via the fittings and features. Combined with the ample outdoor space and breathtaking views, this is the perfect spot to celebrate any event, from raising a glass to the arrival of the weekend to gathering for your nuptials.
The venue will be hosting a wedding showcase open day on Sunday 1st October, 2023. So, keep your eyes on the website for further details to be released nearer the time: www.manningsheath.com

City by the sea
Doubletree by Hilton Brighton Metropole offers the perfect marriage of classic Victorian elegance and charm, with the vibrant, cultural and modern vibes of the city
BY THE SEASIDE
The Brighton Metropole flung open its doors for the first time in 1890. The height of elegant, Victorian architecure, it was designed by Alfred Waterhouse, who also created the Natural History Museum in London. The latest incarnation of this iconic property on Brighton’s seafront reflects the hotel’s updated, contemporary style, which has beautifully enhanced its timeless grandeur, while introducing an oh-so mordern twist. Inspiration for the Doubletree by Hilton Brighton Metropole’s new look came from Brighton’s buzzing art scene, and drew on the heritage of the city as well as the building itself.
Areas including the 1890 At The Met restaurant have been given a stunning makeover, while the Victorian features of the Clarence Suite (available for weddings), including the impressive triple chandeliers, have been restored. The refurb also includes the introduction of a new Presidential Suite, which boasts three king bedrooms, three bathrooms, a sumptuous living area, plus a direct seaview balcony in every room.
A SPOT OF R&R
For many couples a deciding factor when it comes to settling on a venue is whether or not it offers adequate accommodation for guests. The simplest way to achieve this, of course, is to tie the knot at a local hotel, and with 321 gorgeous bedrooms and suites, the Brighton Metropole isn’t short of somewhere for guests to rest and recuperate following the day’s celebrations. I was lucky enough to stay in an incredible seaview suite. The living room area is vast and I could certainly picture a bride enjoying her morning preparations there, with ample space for even the biggest gown and bridal party! It would also be a real treat for the wedding night. The fabulous new décor is super-chic and modern, with an oh-so calming colour palette complementing the seascape the other side of the curtains.
With the lively seafront right on the hotel’s doorstep, you’re in the heart of things here – you could lose hours just staring out of the window! But I must admit to being a little concerned as to how this would translate into a good night’s sleep. I needn’t have worried, as I didn’t hear a peep from the outside world come lights out and was off as soon as my head hit the pillow, no doubt slightly aided by the wine flight at dinner! More on that shortly.
Even better still, the venue offers guaranteed accommodation rates for your guests, which are easy for them to book in several ways. While it might seem slightly mundane, I was thrilled about the ample on-site
parking beneath the hotel. As you locals will no doubt be aware, parking in Brighton is neither cheap nor easy, and the reduced rates here for residents are certainly a big help.
NOT TO BE MISSED
Being in Brighton means there’s plenty to do and see while you and your guests are in town, and if you’re thinking of making your nuptials into a weekend extravagana, as so many couples are now, there’s much not to be missed.
During my stay I was excited to check out the Hotel’s Le Petit Chef dining experience. It’s so difficult to explain without spoiling the surprise, which is a significant part of what makes the evening so special. Le Petit Chef is hailed as the world’s smallest chef. At just six centimetres tall he’s renowned for his culinary excellence in French cuisine! His antics in preparing our outstanding five course meal were projected onto the table in front of us, much to the delight of all, using 3D projection mapping. Do turn up with an empty stomach as you won’t want to leave a morsel of the food on your plate! The revelation for me was the first course of Caprese salad with bocconcini mozzarella, heirloom tomato, aged balsamic glaze, rocket and radish. I generally detest salad, so for me to count it as a highlight is testament indeed to the little chap’s skills! I’d thoroughly recommend accompanying the meal with the Sommelier Choice Grape package, which includes the finest wine pairings to suit each course. This dining experience would make for a memorable wedding-eve get together for you and your closest wedding party to kick the celebrations off in style. The story well and truly captures the imagination and will surely stay with you as part of such a special time in your lives.

SOMEWHERE OVER
the rainbow
Kaela and Ross were looking for a wedding venue with a difference and fell in love with The Observatory Science Centre, Herstmonceux Images courtesy of Fizzy Robot
32
Kaela and Ross met in a typically modern way, on a dating app, so it was love at first swipe for this pair! Fast forward to the proposal on Butts Brow on the Sussex Downs, looking out over Eastbourne. “It’s a place we’ve had some lovely walks and is very special for us,” shares Kaela.
The big date was set, 23rd July, 2022, with The Observatory Science Centre, Herstmonceux providing the perfect backdrop.
SOMETHING DIFFERENT
Looking for something unusual, Kaela and Ross were ecstatic to find out that a magical place for them, The Observatory Science Centre, was licensed for nuptials. “We couldn’t believe they did weddings!” shares Kaela. “But as soon as we saw it was possible, we had to book it. It’s just such a magical place and a really unique venue for a wedding.”
Wanting a relaxed vibe on their big day, the couple decided against a table plan and allowed people to sit wherever they wished. The tables were decorated with runners, flowers in vases, and lanterns reflecting their rainbow colour palette. Similarly, the marquee was adorned with multicoloured crepe paper streamers emanating from the centre, interlaced with fairylights. “We also had a grazing table centrepiece that was decorated in a black tablecloth with a gold star tulle overlay,” shares Kaela. “We had some festoon lights outside the marquee, and also had a circular backdrop decorated with eucalyptus and ferns for the ceremony room.”
A DRESS FROM AFAR
Kaela’s wedding dress was by BHLDN from Anthropologie. “I saw it online and fell in love with it, but it was only available in America. I kept trying on other dresses but they just weren’t it, so when my mum was on holiday in LA, I got her to go to the bridal store and buy it to bring home, without me having tried it on or anything. Luckily it was perfect!” Kaela accessorised with some homemade pink sparkly shoes and a floral wreath tiara. Meawhile, Ross looked dapper in a powder-blue suit teamed with a white shirt, navy braces and a velvet blue bow-tie. The groomsmen were Kaela’s two sons and Ross’ nephew, they all wore navy chino shorts, green spotted shirts, navy velvet bow ties and navy velvet jackets. The bridesmaid wore a rainbow dress, sparkly shoes, matching bouquet and matching tiara –completely in keeping with the theme of the day!
LET’S GO TO SPACE, MAN!
The Observatory Science Centre provided much of the entertainment on the day, as there’s so much for people to see and do. “We also had a brilliant DJ, Sam, who kept the dancefloor filled, mainly with parents and kids singing Encanto songs!” Guests were treated to prosecco, alongside the grazing station, as well as an ice cream van in the afternoon, and delicious Thai food for dinner. “Our grazing platter was also a massive highlight, there was so much gorgeous food, it looked incredible and all the guests commented on how amazing it was.”
UP AMONGST THE STARS
“We were very excited to be getting married, and a little nervous. We’d put so much into planning the day I wanted it all to run smoothly. We really just couldn’t wait to be married though,” shares Kaela. “The ceremony venue, in one of the observatory domes was amazing, everyone was so excited

when they opened the roof before the ceremony. We also got the chance to have the observatory floor raised up so we could look out over East Sussex in the perfect sunshine we had on the day. I’d also say the chance to have a night sky session with the astronomer was really special.”
STAND-OUT MOMENTS
“During a speech from two of the best men, I demonstrated a complete inability to play the kazoo, whereas the boys did an amazing solo each and put me to shame,” laughs Kaela. “Barnaby handing over the rings was also incredibly cute and special, he’d been looking after the rings for weeks and took the responsibility very seriously.”
Kaela’s parents were amazing, they helped with so much and were there until 10pm the night before making the venue look perfect – “We couldn’t have done it without them,” adds the bride. “The entire staff at the observatory, with a special mention to Natasha, were all amazing and helped the day run perfectly, as well as keeping us calm and sane during the planning. I would also say our photographers, Fizzy Robot, were just so lovely and captured the day perfectly.”
HONEYMOON HIGHLIGHT
“We went to Center Parcs with the kids at Christmas, it was absolutely magical and we had an incredible time. We wanted to do something special that we could all do as a family and it didn’t disappoint,” shares Kaela.

Adela and Chris opted for a travel theme for their big-day’s styling
Images courtesy of Kate Izak Photography
Adela and Chris met through mutual friends.
Seven years later Chris popped the question while the happy couple were having afternoon tea at their future wedding venue, Buxted Park Hotel. “I was pleasantly surprised, as the love of my life got on one knee!” says Adela.
The big date was set, 17th September 2022, with the pair tying the knot at local church St Margaret the Queen, Buxted, before heading to Buxted Park Hotel for the reception. Here, Adela tells us more about their day…
38
We love Buxted Park, from its surroundings to its atmosphere.
We felt very happy and everything was wonderful. Even the weather was perfect, nice and sunny.
Chris wore a navy suit with white tie, while the groomsmen had lilac ties.
I wore a white Aire Barcelona dress in a mermaid-style with veil, satin shoes, silver necklace and earrings
Our bridesmaids wore lilac-toned dresses
“Adela walking down the aisle with our children was a standout moment for me.”
39 REAL WEDDINGS
— Chris
Our theme was travel as we love travelling to different countries, we’re in a multi-cultural relationship as well.
The place settings were wooden hearts with guests’ names on, and the tables were named after places we’d been together.
The Redfords provided an acoustic duo during the cocktail hour, and during the ceremony they sang as I walked down the aisle and later when we exited.
Our big-day blooms featured shades of blue and lilac.
40
Chris’s speech was so special for me – a memorable moment.
We had a live band, The Redfords, and they were excellent; everybody commented how good they were.
We loved our sparkler and smoke bomb momets, they made for really beautiful pictures.
Our three tier cake had a blue and white design with white flowers adorning it.
We had a photo booth, which our guests truly enjoyed. We also had a sweet cart for the children.

Great Scot!
Aifric and Scott’s relaxed, rustic wedding was brought to life by an abundance of colourful wildlfowers
Images courtesy of Lucy Dracott Photography
Aifric and Scott met through a Wakeboarding Club while studying at the University of Edinburgh. “I was immediately attracted to Aifric’s very distinctive red hair and her big smile,” recalls Scott, while Aifric adds, “When I first met Scott I thought he was really handsome, fun to be around and very engaging.”
Fast forward to August 2021, when Scott proposed to Aifric on Brighton beach, a short walk from their house. “It was a very windy Friday afternoon so the beach was nice and quiet, however it took Aifric a little bit of persuading to go out for a walk in such conditions!” shares Scott. “It turned out to be one year and one day before we
got married!”
When it came to deciding on a dream venue, Scott always thought they’d get married in Scotland, but after moving to Brighton they decided they’d rather tie the knot closer to home. The pair found Pangdean Barn and instantly fell in love with the venue and its staff. Aifric says, “The gardens were perfect for our outdoor wedding, and the main barn took our breath away with the high ceilings, exposed beams and fairylights.”
The big date was set for Sunday 7th August 2022. Here, Aifric tells us more about their day…
REAL WEDDINGS 43
I was a mixed bag of nerves and excitement! I’m so glad that Scott and I decided to have a first look before walking down the aisle as seeing him instantly put me at ease. It was so special to have those few minutes before the wedding together.
Once we got underway with the ceremony, we weren’t too nervous, it was obviously emotional, though we both really enjoyed it. The weather and location were exactly as we had wanted our wedding to be, so this was wonderful. We exchanged personal vows as part of our ceremony –definitely an emotional moment and a highlight.
Madi Lane make such beautiful dresses, they both look and feel amazing, and I wore the Callie dress. I loved the A-line style with the exposed boning on the corset, and I personalised it by adding off-theshoulder sleeves to give it a softer look.
His brother, the best man, also wore the family tartan. The other groomsmen wore green tartan kilts, which complemented the groom’s and his brother’s. All the groomsmen wore charcoal grey jackets and waistcoats, which made Scott’s outfit stand out.
Our three bridesmaids wore the same dress but in shades of green from an amazing brand called Rewritten.
Scott wore his family tartan kilt. His blue tweed jacket had flashes of green and red wool through it to complement the tartan, with a matching trim on the pockets.
44
We really wanted our friends and families to get to know one another and for the whole wedding to feel relaxed. We decided on having two long banquet-style tables with bud vases filled with a few flowers dotted here and there.
We opted for seasonal flowers from Sussex. Lib, our florist, was great at finding locally-grown blooms in the colours we wanted – she even managed to incorporate some of our favourites.
We had a lovely two-tiered wedding cake with seasonal pressed flowers.
In true Scottish wedding style, we had a ceilidh band as our main entertainment of the evening. This went down a storm with the guests, especially some of our international family and friends who were doing one for the first time. It also felt like a very befitting location for a ceilidh, doing a ‘strip the willow’ in an authentic barn in the countryside.
We knew we didn’t want a standard wedding breakfast and Pangdean Barn created delicious Mexican sharing dishes for the mains and we opted for Eton mess as the dessert option.
REAL WEDDINGS 45
There were a few funny stories on the day, we had a few people take a tumble during the ceilidh and, during the Mexican main course, one of our guests ate a whole chili pepper (apparently for a bet) and had to go to the bar for a glass of milk during the speeches.
Our photographer, Lucy, was superb. We’d only met her virtually before the day, but she was a really friendly and relaxing presence to be around. A few people remarked on this on the day and even asked us if she was a friend of ours.

Beautifully BRIDGERTON
This Bridgerton-themed styled shoot will have you swooning
Images courtesy of Paul Placitelli Photography
ThisBridgerton-inspired shoot was designed to recreate the elegance and opulence of the Regency era,” venue stylist Lauren Russell of Ambience West Sussex expalins. “Large blooms of pastel lilacs and blues create an impactful moongate and meadow-style aisle arrangements, while the model brides’ elegant A-line gowns paired with whimsical long veils and classic make-up are accompanied by beautifully ornate hair pieces and jewellery befitting of the period.”
We adore the dreamy table set up, consisting of gold-footed bowl arrangements, flowing chiffon and an abundance of candlelight. The place settigs would be the talk of the Ton, adorned with exquisite vintage crockery and glassware with romantic stationery featuring delicate bows and hand-written names. Finally, the three-tier Wedgewood blue cake is a real showstopper that looks too good to eat, with its intricate gold gilding and beautiful sugar flower details.
Photorapher Paul Placitelli says, “I wanted the images to capture the feel of the period, so the posing shot was of that timeless style. The venue, Alexander House Hotel, was the perfect backdrop for this theme, with its period feel, elegant decor and vast landscaped grounds. An absolute joy to photograph.” The result offers inspiration aplenty, especially if you’re as obsessed with the Netflix hit as we are. Roll on series three!

Shoot coordinator, Kate Waller Smith, of Kate Waller Hair & Makeup, wanted to incorporate a modern aesthetic in this styled shoot to appeal to couples tying the knot in the coming years. Teaming a highly styled wedding vibe with some sleek hair and sparkly dresses, Pelham House provided the ultimate backdrop for Kate’s vision. “It’s an insane venue and so easy to find lots of spaces to photograph in,” shares Kate. “I concentrated on the bride’s hair and make-up, stunning dresses, jewellery, and some eye-catching flowers. The colour palette focused on muted champagne hues, which I feel are modern and timeless, while complementing the venue’s look and colour scheme.”

ARABIAN TENT COMPANY
www.arabiantents.com
Katherine Hudson says: We have heaps of offerings, and since the ‘backyard’ decorating trend that came originally from America a few years ago, we’ve been expanding our range of interesting and useful outdoor accessories until we can now create a whole room outside to complement the tented offerings we have.
In the last couple of years, we’ve created products such as outdoor festoon ceilings to sit outside our tents. The Circle of Light has a firebowl in the centre with seating around it, flanked by festoons; while the Light Garden features a stylish LED tree as well as the firebowl to keep guests warm, plus pallet seating and barrel tables.
CO-ORDINATION EVENT HIRE
www.co-ordination.net
Chloe Alderson says: We provide all hireable items needed for a wedding from furniture, crockery, cutlery and glassware to linens and evening kitchen equipment. Whether you need ceremony chairs for an outdoor service, or the full set-up for a marquee wedding including tableware, ovens and chiller trailers, we’ve got you covered.
Chloe's top tip: Prepare for all weathers, remember this is England and the Great British weather is not always predictable, so plan for all eventualities, and then just go with the flow! Consider shelter from the rain or the sun, firepits to keep your guests warm on balmy nights, or colourful umbrellas for beautiful photo ops in the rain.
What’s to love about tying the knot outside? You can make the most of natural features and pick a style that suits your surroundings. Outdoor weddings can open a whole host of wonderful – and sometimes alternative – themes that may not have the same impact indoors. Perhaps a British picnic-style wedding, a beautifully extravagant Alice in Wonderland style tea party, or a loud and proud festival wedding. Just remember to pick something that suits your location while representing you as a couple.
We also have a selection of other interesting items such as the Rustic Pavilion tents, which measure five-metres in diameter, tropical hangout hammocks, pretty wrought iron furniture and deckchairs for seating (including our William Morris designs, which we made to match our tents), and of course all types of outdoor lighting either warm white or coloured, including fairylights, LED trees, festoon lighting on tall and short crooks, fire bowls and flame heaters to keep guests warm.
Katherine's top tip: Make sure you have a back-up rain plan!
What’s to love about tying the knot outside?
Whether we know it or not, we are animals! And people are naturally drawn to celebrating outside due to the connection it creates with nature.

Celebrating in the great outdoors gives you the freedom to enjoy nature and the views. With more space at your disposal, you can go big with entertainment and food trucks. Here at Great Betley Farmhouse we’ve even had fire-eaters and Morris Dancers! You can have separate areas for different parts of the celebrations without having to wait for rooms tobe turned around. Chloe Alderson says: I specialise in bespoke wedding stationery, from save-the-date cards and invitations to orders of service, table plans and place cards, I create stationery that's individual to you and reflects you as a couple.
Chloe's top tip: Ensure your guests are well-informed, allowing them to prepare for the occasion. Whether that’s picking flat-soled shoes
for walking on the grass, or bringing sun cream and a hat, they’ll appreciate the heads-up!
What’s to love about tying the knot outside?
An outdoor wedding is a feast for all the senses, from the sun and a gentle breeze on your face to hearing the birds chirping or the crashing of waves. Being outside brings new energy to you and your guests and the natural backdrop is the perfect inspiration when choosing a theme or style for your wedding.

Jenny Ross, wedding venue coordinator, says: We'll work with you to help with planning your day at our venue. We offer a gorgeous courtyard area with an Indian arbour and a feature fountain, along with grounds boasting vistas of fields and woodland. The ceremony can be held in our beautiful chocolate vine-covered Indian arbour situated in the courtyard that can seat up to 160 guests, but works equally well for smaller weddings, or on our lawns in front of 200-year-old oak trees. We’ve just added an amazing Indian outdoor bar on our decking, complementing our bespoke marquees from India that feature hand-
block detailing. Use one side for up to 90 guests, or both sides for larger weddings up to 160 guests with great views across the lawns and courtyard. You're welcome to have games and firepits, pop-up food stalls or trucks if you prefer or use our kitchen for something more formal.
Jenny's top tip: Always consider a wet-weather plan. We’re happy to discuss options and have the flexibility to offer great wetweather alternatives.

We also offer outdoor wedding packages at Everflyht Vineyard and Meadow Lake, which are both beautiful locations for a Sussex wedding.
Sarah's top tip: Make sure you have enough shelter for your guests. Most people think about needing cover in case of a shower but in the Great British summertime it can more often be about providing shade for
your guests from the scorching sunshine!
What’s to love about tying the knot outside?

Wedding catering ideas to suit your vibe
Somuch of the atmosphere you create for your big day comes from the catering. If you dream of a traditional, elegant and grand affair, then a seated wedding breakfast with three courses (or more) will send you well on your way to setting the right tone. On the other hand, if a relaxed and informal celebration is on the cards, you’ll be looking for something that’s much more flexible and free-flowing. But when all’s said and done, as long as you ensure loved ones have plenty to indulge in they’ll be well-fuelled with a spring in their step by the time they’re ready to hit the dancefloor. Whatever you vision, we have some food for thought...
CATERING 61
For the traditionalists
DID YOU KNOW?
The term wedding breakfast is thought to have originated in the preReformation period when the wedding ceremony was usually part of a Eucharistic mass. Therefore, the newlyweds would have been fasting in preparation for receiving Holy Communion. When the “I dos” were complete, the couple were able to break their fast and enjoy their first meal of the day together, hence “breakfast.”
A LA CARTE
If you dream of a traditional, formal sit-down three-course meal, enlisting the help of a professional caterer is a must. There are generally two ways to do this depending on the style of venue you have chosen. Typically, but not necessarily always, more rustic, blank canvas venues will permit you to bring in your own caterers, which means much more flexibility in terms of building the menu of your dreams. They’ll work with you to find out about your ideas, loves and personalities to create something bespoke.
On the other hand, many venues already work with an in-house caterer, which means using their services is non-negotiable and will likely already be included in your package cost. But, that’s not to say there won’t be plenty of choice available to you depending on the style you prefer. Many will offer a range of menu choices from the three-course to the more relaxed barbecue – more on that later! This is the ideal choice if you prefer the full-service option with everything taken care of, leaving you stress-free and ready to party. If you have a clear idea in mind of how you want your dining to go, do check which route your prospective venues take when you’re viewing them before you book.
ALL ABOUT YOU
We’re total foodies here at Your Sussex Wedding, so the idea of working with a wedding caterer to build a dream menu fills us with joy. You can tailor your food to reflect your loves, story and personalities just as you can any other part of your day. Remember: if you don’t ask, you don’t get! So see what your caterer
can do
for you.
We love the idea of serving dishes to reflect your heritages, or perhaps you shared a first date at an Italian restaurant and want to treat your guests to some flavours of the Med? Maybe, you just adore crème brulee. If you’re a foodie, consider a five-course tasting menu. No one has to endure bland chicken and veg dishes these days, so get creative and make it all about you!
KEEP IT LOCAL
Not only from a sustainability angle, but also in terms of supporting your community, it’s a great idea to keep as local as you can with produce used to create your wedding breakfast. Many modern caterers make this their mission when sourcing ingredients, so it’s something to look out for. You’ll find the quality from local, artisan producers is impeccable and with so few miles to cover it’s sustainable too. Check out www.earthcatering.co.uk
WINE AND DINE
English sparkling wine is currently experiencing its well-deserved day in the sun, and Sussex is one of the winery hotspots. Local vineyards are producing some incredible wines, so much so that local lovely Nyetimber recently pipped their counterparts in Champagne to the post for the industry’s most sought-after award. So go on, spoil yourself, and your loved ones! Check out...

DIETARY REQUIREMENTS
The key to catering for loved ones with special dietary requirements is communication, communication and more communication. This starts when you send out your invitations, where it’s a good idea to ask about guests’ dietaries, allowing you to feed this information back to your caterer as soon as the RSVPs start flooding in. The sooner they know, the sooner they can start creating the perfect, mouthwatering menu for all. As long as they’re forewarned, these talented folk can do anything, but leaving it until the last minute or springing it on them on the day, will be quite the disaster as they’ll only have with them the exact ingredients they need to cook what you’ve agreed upon.
SWEET TREATS
Alice Marples from Marples Cakery (www.marplescakery.co.uk) says, “For a traditional three-course wedding breakfast, we’d normally recommend something classic, such as a three-tier wedding cake with macarons to accompany the meal in colours that complement your palette. As favours, often personalised, luxury shortbread are extremely popular, with fondant embossed toppers bearing your guests’ names and your wedding date. For an extra flourish we can also add accents of edible 24 carat gold leaf.”

For the free-spirited
SHARING IS CARING
Russell Nisbet from Harold’s Hog Roast (www.haroldshogroast.co.uk) says, “For relaxed and informal weddings, sharing boards such as ploughman’s, barbecue, or hog roast served to tables work really well. These options create a great atmosphere as guests interact with each other over food, without having to queue or pre-order. The tables look really impressive as well when laden and full, just like a banquet, and loved ones can eat as much or as little as they like.
“Hog roasts continue to be a popular choice for evening food at weddings too. They’re a cost-effective and crowd-pleasing option and guests love the anticipation as the smell of roast pork builds throughout the day.”
SUMMER FIESTA
Barbecues are a super-popular choice for summer weddings. It’s a style of dining that we Brits adore and associate with the season, even if the weather does sometimes hold us back. So, it’s perhaps no surprise that many venues and caterers offer this option as one of their wedding breakfast packages. Imagine if you will, smoke billowing from the barbie on a balmy day, and tables heaving with salads, sides and all manner of condiments – food heaven and a real crowd-pleaser.
TOTALLY A-GRAZING!
Grazing tables have become a top trend throughout recent years. It’s the simplest way to make sure that there’s something for everyone, and is a flexible option designed to suit your day. Those with dietary requirements will be happy as they won’t feel left out, and as long as you brief your caterer on their needs whether they be vegan or any sort of allergy or intolerance, there’ll be satisfied tummies all round.
Most specialist suppliers will offer a range of set ups such as a large table laden with goodies, for the ultimate informal feast, where guests can take a break from partying and dip in and out as and when they wish. Alternatively, if you’re still keen to maintain an element of seated dining, but table plan-free with a social eating experience, you might opt for sharing platters or graze runners, served at the tables. Check out www.gracefullygrazing.com
If you’ve got a sweet tooth too, fear not as dessert equivalents are also a thing! Alice says, “We’re finding recently that grazing dessert tables are becoming increasingly popular for more informal weddings, where we create everything from loaded flapjacks and blondies, to monster stuffed cookies, cookie bars and so much more. Most importantly, it’s your special day so it’s imperative that you have all your favourite things –don’t worry about tradition or what you should do, it’s your day and you can make it your own. Here at Marples Cakery we offer a completely bespoke service for our wedding cakes, so any design or flavour you’d like, we can create for you.”
TRUCK ON!
Street food isn’t just for festivals. You can use a myriad of food trucks to build your own little culinary village. From international cuisine such as paella, to wood-fired pizza, ice cream vans, and horse box bars, these mobile miracles offer you the opportunity to go with what you love and bring the super-fun festival vibes to your celebration. Ditch the plastic cutlery though and opt for eco-friendly recyclables instead. Make sure there’s ample seating whether it be hay bales, sofas or tables and chairs, and your loved ones will be happy as Larry.
A SLICE OF THE ACTION
Alice says, “Semi-naked wedding cakes are always a popular choice for more rustic, outdoor weddings, with dried flower bouquet flourishes decorating it. Stacked brownie and cupcake towers also lend themselves beautifully to a relaxed wedding setting, as guests can take one at their convenience and you don’t need to worry about cutting a large cake. If you like this idea, but still want the cake-cutting photos, we can also create smaller cakes to top the towers, which perfectly do the trick. Plus, we can make any of our creations to be vegan-wise, dairy-wise, gluten-wise etc, as we’ve cultivated our recipes to ensure everything tastes incredible.”

HOT TOPIC: SUSTAINABILITY
This issue we asked our experts to tell us how to plan a wedding sustainably
STYLED TO ECO PERFECTION
Sally Gallis from Luna And The Lane (www.lunaandthelane.co.uk and www.purpledoorprops.com) says: Here at Luna And The Lane, one of our main considerations for any wedding is how you can make informed and thoughtful choices about sustainability. Weddings can create waste, something that suppliers must be incredibly mindful about, certainly in the current climate when the focus is so much on our environment. There are many ways you can ensure your wedding involves sustainable choices. Here are just a few:
•Consider re-using any floral arrangements – your florist can advise about this. Think about using dried flowers that you can keep after the wedding or gift on.
•Swapping flowers for potted plants, which can then be planted as a keepsake.
•Hire goods such as furniture or table décor rather than buying things that you’ll only end up putting in the loft.
•If you do buy décor, make sure that you either sell it on (Facebook Marketplace is a great place to do this) or pass it on to others.
•Use local suppliers to cut down on their carbon footprint and buy from small businesses.
•Incorporate locally-grown food and use local distilleries or wineries for booze.
•Find out if your florist can source blooms from flower farms in the local area rather than having them imported.
•Ask your caterer for advice on limiting leftovers.
HAVE YOUR CAKE AND EAT IT
Emily Fitter from Emily’s Mixing Bowl (www.emilysmixingbowl.co.uk) says: There are many ways to make your wedding cake more sustainable while still having a gorgeous, and of course, delicious bake at your wedding. Here are a few of my top tips:
•Use your wedding cake as pudding to reduce waste and ensure it’s all eaten. Ask your caterer if they can cut it up and serve with seasonal berries or a coulis. Choose rich flavours that will satisfy even the sweetest tooth, such as chocolate and salted caramel, sticky toffee or coffee, hazelnut, and chocolate.
www.markuzaphoto.com
•If you’re getting married out of the summer season consider a pressed flower wedding cake. The blooms are pressed at their best and last all year round for that summer meadow look without the imported flowers.
•Ditch the cake topper (unless it’s sentimental). If you have a skilled cake designer then a cake topper really isn’t needed.
•Don’t use dummy tiers. If you’re having an intimate wedding a one- or two-tier cake can still be beautiful. Cake can be frozen and enjoyed in the months to come and polystyrene is very slow to degrade.

DARING DESIGNS
Chloë Alderson, The Wedding Print Shop (www.theweddingprintshop.co.uk) says: When it comes to wedding stationery there are many ways to make your wedding more sustainable, from small changes such as using recycled paper, to larger changes such as sending digital invites.
At The Wedding Print Shop sustainability is very important to us, from reusing packaging to avoiding single-use plastics as much as possible (which is why we prefer to avoid acrylic invitations). We also advise you on what quantities you need to avoid over-ordering to save you money and reduce waste.
If being more eco-friendly is something you’re striving for at your wedding, work with your chosen supplier to find the perfect balance between style and sustainability. Amongst our range we offer a design-only service for those preferring to send digital invites, various personalised packaging options for items such as biodegradable confetti, papers made from recycled materials and our newest addition – large format printing on 100 per cent fully recyclable board, suitable for table plans and welcome signs.
CLEAN BEAUTY
Hair and make-up artist Toni Todd (www.tonitoddhairandmakeup.co.uk) says: When it comes to your hair and make-up, making eco-friendly choices can be challenging but impactful and 1,000 per cent worth it. As a vegan and cruelty-free hair and make-up artist for weddings, I’m dedicated to helping you choose sustainable options that align with your values. Here are some tips to make your wedding make-up and everyday beauty routine more sustainable.
•Choose eco-friendly products. Look for hair and make-up brands that prioritise sustainability by using natural, organic, and cruelty-free ingredients and hold accreditations from the likes of B corp, leaping bunny, PETA and the Soil Association.
•Embrace a minimalist approach. Using fewer products not only reduces waste but also allows your authentic self to shine through. Did you know you can use your favourite lip colour as a cream blush on your cheeks and eyes too?
•Seek a sustainable artist. Choose a hair and make-up artist who specialises in eco-friendly practices. They can guide you towards sustainable products and techniques.
•Embrace reusable tools. Replace single-use make-up wipes and cotton pads with reusable alternatives like bamboo or organic cotton pads. Opt for hairstyling tools made from sustainable materials such as wooden brushes or combs.
•Consider sustainable hairstyles. Explore elegant styles that require few hair products and styling. Embracing your natural hair texture can also be more environmentally friendly.
•Minimise water usage. Incorporate water-saving techniques during your everyday hair washing and styling. Dry shampoos and low-flow shower heads are excellent options to reduce water consumption.
REMEMBERING LOVED ONES
Rachael Tout from St Wilfrid’s Hospice (www.stwh.co.uk) says: There are lots of different ways that you can remember someone at your wedding sustainably, without turning to disposable items. It’s a lovely idea to raise a glass to them in your toast or remember them with music; your first dance could be a piece of music you all enjoyed.
You could include a favourite meal or drink on your menu that reminds you of who you are missing – did they make the best pudding? Or could you add a cocktail that celebrates them? For example, was your best friend full of fizz? If so, add it to your menu in honour of that person – it’s sure to raise a smile.
If you’re having a faith wedding, you can ask your faith leader to remember your loved one in your wedding prayers.
You could ask for donations for a charity close to your heart so that favours using plastic materials etc aren’t thrown away after the event. At St Wilfrid’s Hospice, we support couples who’d like to have a wedding donation box or wedding favours related to raising money for the Hospice, so that the charity can go on to support other families in a similar situation in the future.

Watch this space
The experts at WatchPilot advise on how to choose the perfect watch for your big day
Awatch should complement a groom’s suit, however it should also be a timepiece that they will want to wear for years to come. Co-founder of WatchPilot.com, Tim Harrison, has shared with County Wedding Magazines’ grooms’ editor, Melissa Cullen, his expert advice on buying and investing in a timepiece for your big day...
What type of watches are available for grooms-to-be?
The most common watches are quartz, which offer accurate timing with minimal maintenance. Quartz watches also have the most affordable watch movements.
Then there are automatic watches which selfwind using kinetic energy. These store energy by using the movement of your wrist but are typically more expensive than quartz options.
Mechanical watches function via an intricate series of tiny components working together to power the watch. These never need batteries because they require hand-winding to operate. They are super reliable and often very attractive to look at but they do come with a higher price tag than other timepieces.
The final type is the solar watch, which has the ability to convert light energy into electrical energy; they do not require battery replacements and feature a quartz crystal movement for accurate timekeeping.
What are the latest watch trends?
Watches mean so much more than just telling the time; they represent every second of our lives. Some of the most recent style trends include vintage watches with nostalgic elements such as thin cases, minimalistic dials and those with beautiful heritage.
Smart watches are continuing to be a big
trend as people are increasingly investing more in their health and wellbeing, and these timepieces are the best for staying in tune with your body while you meet your fitness goals.
There has also been a huge increase in using bold colours in both jewellery and watches. Blue, green and other pastel colours have been particularly utilised by many brands, producing a variety of new lines and limitededition pieces.
How can grooms-to-be add a personal touch to their wristwear?
A wedding is a great opportunity to add a sentimental item or two to your wardrobe. Potentially borrow a watch from a family member or someone very close to you. If you are wearing a new watch, consider having it engraved to provide a memory of your special day – this could be a date, initials or a quote.
Appearance is one of the largest factors for grooms when choosing what to wear on their big day, with this in mind, what are your tips for grooms-to-be when selecting a watch to complement their suit?
The most common watch worn with a suit is the dress watch. Consider a simple design with no flourishes. A plain black leather strap and simple dial is understated and refined.
When gifting a watch to a groom, what details should be considered?
Opt for a classic and elegant design. Much like an engagement ring, the watch should stand out, however not be too extravagant. Consider taste and style preferences for example, if he’s sporty look for a classic chronograph.
If you know what colour metal the groom prefers to wear as part of his wardrobe i.e. on belt buckles or cufflinks, then this could be a hint for the colour of watch they may like.
Lastly stay within your budget! Don’t forget that weddings can cost quite a bit of money, so set yourself a price limit and work within it.
How do you suggest cleaning and maintaining a watch?
Whether you wear it every day or just for special occasions, it’s important to make time to give your watch a bit of TLC with a regular clean. This not only keeps it looking good, but it’s also essential for making sure it works well,
keeps time effectively over a long period as well as for general hygiene.
How often you should clean your watch varies. If you wear your watch every day, then a thorough clean, once a month, should keep it free of dirt and grime. If you’re more of an occasional wearer, then a six-monthly deep clean is recommended.
The first step is to take a look at the manual that came with your watch. This should give you a good idea of what you can and can’t do during the cleaning process. Next, you’ll need the proper equipment. A few essential items that will help you give your watch a thorough clean include a microfibre cloth, cleaning fluid, brushes, a watch strap remover tool and a Cape Cod polishing cloth.
If your watch strap is made from leather, fabric or silicone, you’ll need to remove it before you can start cleaning. You’ll also need to push or screw in all the crowns (the winders) and buttons to prevent water or moisture from damaging the internal workings of your watch.
There are some parts of your watch, like the crown and buttons, that might be too small to effectively clean with your cloth, and this is where your cleaning brushes come in. They’re perfect for getting into all the nooks and crannies, including the crown, buttons and inside the lugs. Always spray the cleaning fluid onto the tip of each brush, not the watch itself, and use a dry part of your microfibre cloth to remove any excess.
Now it’s time to buff or polish your watch using your Cape Cod polishing cloth. Not only will this remove any streaks and brighten up the surface of your watch, but it’s also a great way to buff out any fine scratches or blemishes.

Q&A Beauty
Look and feel your big-day best with help from the professionals
PUCKER UP
I never wear lipstick, but I’m worried my look might look unfinished without on my wedding day... What advice can you offer me for feeling comfortable while wearing lippy?
Becky says: A lot of brides feel this way and there are a few options depending on what you’d prefer. If you don’t like the feel of lipstick at all, apply a lip liner all over and then use either a lip balm or gloss over the top for a hydrated finished look. The lip liner will give you colour all day while the lip balm or lip gloss will keep your lips moisturised. One of my favourites is Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk, it’s a beautiful, natural shade that completes your make-up look while being low maintenance.
If you’re happy with a lipstick, make sure to choose a moisturising one with a sheen finish rather than matte. Moisturising lipsticks will feel comfortable while also giving you the colour you like. Whichever option you go for, use a lip liner underneath and have a lip balm on hand so you can freshen up throughout the day and feel comfortable.
A DOWN DEAL
I normally wear my hair down, so I don’t feel I’d look like me if I wore it up for the wedding. How can I elevate a hair-down look to make it bridal, switching it up for the big day though?
Shanon says: You want to feel the most confident and comfortable on your wedding day, and if this means wearing your hair down then you must! You can make the style more glam and bridal by using diamanté hair slides to push back one side and show off the makeup. Alternatively, hair bands and a veil over a down style will look stunning too.
EYE DO
I love the look of false lashes, but I’ve never worn them myself. Should I try them for my wedding day? What advice do you have for me?
Grace says: Lashes are a fantastic way to finish off your look as they can really define and enhance your eyes without the need for heavy make-up. If you’re not used to wearing them, a few trial runs are a must. There are lots of options when it comes to styles, you don’t have to wear a traditional strip lash if you don’t want to. Daily individual cluster lashes are so comfortable and can be placed on the lash one by one to really enhance your unique eye shape.
If you’re using a make-up artist, they’ll be able to do these for you. But, if you’re planning on doing them yourself, have a practice first and remember to do a patch test for the glue in case you have any allergies.
Another option is to go for semi-permanent lashes that you can get done before the day. These typically last four to six weeks and are fab if you want to keep them on for your honeymoon. These aren’t for everyone though, so a trial before the wedding is essential.
Once you’ve found the lash technician for you, they can advise you on when to have them done and the best weight of lash to go for. If false lashes aren’t for you, an easy option is a lash lift, which will give your eyes definition in the most natural way.

A LOVE LETTER TO YOUR SKIN
I recently attended a masterclass with Super Facialist’s resident skincare expert, Charlotte Connoley, which posed the question: do we really know our skin type? If like me your answer is somewhat hesitant, it may interest you to know that there’s an easy way to find out. Charlotte suggests simply splashing your face with water and leaving it for 20-25 minutes. If it feels prickly afterwards, you have sensitive skin; if the water’s gone, then it’s dry; if the skin is tight, it’s dehydrated; and if it feels perfectly comfortable you’re blessed with a normal skin type. Whatever you discover, Super Facialist has a range of products specifically tailored to each type, recognising this can change throughout the year. This allows you to affordably create your own individual skincare routine to support your skin throughout the seasons.
Having learned that my skin is dehydrated, I tried the divine Rosehip Hydrate Calming Creamy Cleanser (£9, www.lookfantastic.com) and my annoying dry patches have been banished!

WhenI met with celebrity hairstylist and OGX ambassador, Michael Douglas to mark the launch of OGX’s new Colour Retention range, I can say with confidence that I was definitely having colour retention problems. I’d recently taken the plunge with my dream pastel violet hair colour, but my beloved shade was quickly running away from me. Michael very kindly offered to top my colour up, and while he mixed together a stunning new violet for me, I asked him about OGX’s new range. “All of the brand’s products are PH-balanced with sulphate-free surfactants, which don’t bind to anything you don’t want them to meaning they’re all very gentle on colour,” he told me.
I’m sure we can all agree that there’s not much better than that fresh-from-the-salon feeling, which is why OGX created the new collection, to extend salon or at home colour for up to four weeks. The new products also contain a colour bond plex technology, which helps to protect and strengthen strands for healthylooking, vibrant hair.
With the gorgeous colour applied, Michael began to style my short crop and I was curious whether he had any advice for brides-to-be thinking about colouring their locks pre-

wedding. He said, “It’s so high risk isn’t it? Do not do anything experimental, that’s the main thing! A lot of people seem to want to look like someone else on their wedding day, but I always think it’s better to look like the best, sexiest version of you – make you look great that day!
“Unless you wear your hair up a lot though, I never think it’s such a good idea. Remember, photos are forever. My favourite look was when Jennifer Aniston married Brad Pitt. She had great hair, everyone knew her for her that. So, actually she just had it down with some little diamonds sewn into it on a thin thread, which pinned it really nicely. I’ve tried the technique myself with a thin fishing wire woven through the hair before a blow dry and it just supports the style beautifully.”
Michael continued, “I also like the idea of doing something for the day and changing it up for the evening.” I was totally on board with this, having noticed an increasing trend in brides pulling off an outfit switch-up between the ‘I dos’ and celebrations. Michael suggested: “There‘s something nice about having the hair scraped back for the morning and then something a wavy in the evening or vice versa.”
By now, I was delighted with my own hair and wanted to know more about achieving the same look at home. After all, we can’t all have a celebrity hair stylist on call! He said, “A lot of people want frizz-free shiny hair and ask me on Instagram what shampoo and conditioner they need to buy, but it’s actually down to styling technique. Use a decent bristle brush with a metal barrel, hold the dryer at a particular angle for a long time, about four seconds longer than you think you need to, and keep the brush moving. So, how did you come to work with OGX as it’s brand ambassador? I asked. “During lockdown when all the hairdressers shut down, I decided to go on social media and talk about the best consumer products to use at home. I was getting around 4,000 people a day watching the lives, so a lot of brands got in touch asking me to talk about their products and OGX offered to send me some of its range. When I realised that most of my audience aren’t going to be spending £20 on a bottle of shampoo, yet were the very people asking for help, I agreed to try them. When I saw the huge range of products all PH balanced and with sulphate-free surfactants, at £6.99-£7.99 a bottle, it peaked my interest. I was able to send hundreds of OGX goodies out to my followers, and you wouldn’t believe the amount of people who came back to me saying how much they loved them. We shot 45 one-minute videos for OGX looking at common hair problems with the products to solve them. It’s a great match!”
I left the studio with a spring in my step confirming that indeed, it is difficult to beat the feeling of a fresh new do!

SKIN DEEP
Beauty editor Kelly Andrews caught up with Angela Langford whose eponymous brand offers a wide range of skincare designed to make you feel great
The idea for Angela Langford as a brand started when Angela was working in a stressful, pressured, corporate job in Gibraltar, from which she was eventually made redundant. She knew she wasn’t meant for that world any longer, and set out to create her own business based on her passions. “I was travelling less, which meant I couldn’t easily get my favourite skincare from the UK anymore,” Angela says. “So, I started making my own products for personal use, with no intention of turning it into a career.” But, having discovered a love for the whole process, she did a lot of research and eventually decided to turn her new-found passion into a business, sharing her products with others. She went on to study cosmetic formulation in depth, which in turn opened up a completely new world for her.
Beauty editor Kelly Andrews chatted to Angela recently to find out more about the brand and its products, as well as how they can help you feel skin confident for your wedding day, complete with that gorgeous bridal glow.
possible I use glass jars and bottles, but this isn’t always compatible with the product. If a container is plastic, I use post-consumer recycled packaging. This is an area I work hard to constantly improve on, and over the years, I’ve made a great deal of progress.
Using high quality, concentrated products can help too, because you don’t need to purchase so often. Keeping your routine simple and using up what you do buy can also help.
What are your favourite skincare ingredients that you recommend we look out for?
This is a bit like being asked who your favourite child is, or in my case, favourite pet! It’s a tough one to answer, but I think oils rich in skin-loving omegas and essential fatty acids are vital for our skin’s health. Rosehip, chia seed, argan, and evening primrose are in a lot of my products and I always try to source organic versions.
I’m a huge fan of active plant ingredients too. My current favourites are electric daisy and sea buckthorn. The former has been referred to as nature’s botox and can help to smooth, firm and tighten our skin; whereas sea buckthorn is like a superfood for it. It has so many amazing benefits –it’s calming, soothing, repairing and can help with cell regeneration. Rich in vitamin C and anti-oxidants, it’s a skincare powerhouse, which is why I use it in my best-selling face oil, Bloom & Glow.
People are becoming more conscious of what’s in their skincare products as well as how its produced. How can we ensure our beauty products are as harmless to the environment as they are good for our skin?
I’m a very small-scale producer and I make everything myself in small batches. This means, there’s very little wastage and the products aren’t stored for months on end in a warehouse. I also use organic ingredients wherever available as these are also better for the environment.
We’re primarily an online brand, so I don’t use any outer packaging, and this small change can help to make a positive difference. Where
What would you recommend as the best approach for a bride or groom concerned about sensitive skin in the run up to the big day? Don’t introduce a new product to your skincare routine too close to your big day. Also, avoid any treatments or introducing new make-up. If you have regular facials, that’s fine, but going for something different a week beforehand may upset your skin. If you’re having your make-up applied by a professional, make sure you discuss this with them during your trial and ask to use your own make-up products if you’re worried.
Can you suggest a skincare regime that will ensure skin is in tip-top condition, providing the perfect base for a W-day make-up artist? Cleanse every morning and evening. A double cleanse with a balm or

oil in the evening is great too. The first will remove the make-up and SPF, the second is to cleanse the skin. Unless you’re very sensitive or have rosacea, I’d recommend using an exfoliator twice a week too in the evening after cleansing. Look for something with fruit acids (AHAs), which help to slough away dead, dull skin.
A once-a-week brightening face mask will really help to liven up your complexion and even out skintone. As long as you introduce them a few months in advance of your wedding, a mask the night before is wonderful. It will help to soften and smooth your skin ready for flawless make-up application and it’ll help you to relax too. Also, be sure to moisturise daily, keep skin hydrated with a tonic, and by drinking plenty of water.
Finally, if there’s one thing I think can make an enormous difference, it’s using a face oil. Even if your skin is oily, it can really help and there’s one out there for everyone. Brightening and balancing versions are wonderful, and you can use a drop after your make-up has been applied for extra luminosity.
What would you suggest to those worried about congested or oily skin and the effect this will have on their overall make-up look?
I always come back to cleansing as the key to great skin, yet it’s often the step people either skip entirely or skimp on. Cleansing wipes are a real no-no for me, they just move dirt around your skin and don’t cleanse properly. They aren’t great for the environment either, so I’d really avoid these.
The other important thing, particularly when you have oily skin, is to choose balancing products. Often, those aimed at this particular skin type are harsh and strip skin of its natural oils. This doesn’t solve the problem though, in fact it has the opposite effect, making your skin panic into producing even more oil.
It may surprise you to know that oil isn’t the enemy, being oil-free can be though. I even advise people with oily skin to use a facial oil in the evening. It can take time to get used to, and might take longer to even consider, as it does sound counter-intuitive! The key is to use the right
ones – light, easily absorbed and balancing are what you need. Look for ingredients including rosehip, kiwi, thistle (also known as safflower) and jojoba, all great for oily, congested and combination skin. Massage a couple of drops into clean skin every night. Plus, if you aren’t sensitive to them, essential oils can also help to clear congested skin. Look out for palamarosa, cypress, bergamot, lemon, lemongrass and rose geranium.
When is the best time to make changes/improvements to a skincare regime in preparation for a wedding?
It can take time for our skin to adjust to new products and new ingredients. When you try something new, it’s not unusual for your skin to become dry or for you to experience a little redness or even breakouts. This is just our skin adjusting. It does depend on the individual and also what products your skin is used to, but to be safe, I’d give yourself at least two months to introduce changes and new products. This also leaves time for you to see the results.
What products couldn’t you live without?
I use either Clean Sweep Cleansing Balm, and I Can See Clearly Now Make-up Remover. I then follow with a second cleanse using Sweet Cheeks Non-Foaming Face Wash. I exfoliate a few times a week using Scrub Up Exfoliator and use Look on the Bright Side Face Mask once a week – mixing it with some Freshen Up and a few drops of Bloom & Glow. In the day I’m never far away from a bottle of Freshen Up Hydrating Skin Tonic – I love to use it when my skin needs a hydrating boost. Most of the time I use A Little Lift Serum followed by Bloom & Glow face oil in the day and at night Bloom & Glow or Repair & Renew face oil on its own – I just love face oils and the benefits they have on our skin.

KEEP CALM AND MARRY ON
Professional nutritionists from Wedding Wellness share their stress-beating tips
Feeling the pressure to get everything right and done on time is inevitable when it comes to wedding planning. With a seemingly endless todo list and preparing to expect the unexpected, the sense of overwhelm can quickly take over. This, in turn, results in its own issues such as impaired sleep, digestive issues, skin breakouts, low mood and anxiety. While it isn’t helpful to tell someone planning their big day to simply not stress, thinking about ways to support a stressed body and maintain overall good health, can help prevent some of these unwanted symptoms and make the whole process more manageable.
Read on to discover five ways to support yourself against stress in the run up to your wedding day, courtesy of Minal Sudra and Elizabeth Andrews at Wedding Wellness...
PRIORITISE SLEEP
One of the most underrated activities when it comes to your health is a good night’s sleep. Quality sleep isn’t purely about how many hours of shut-eye you get, but also about being mindful of eating and lifestyle habits, and how they can affect rest. When we consistently sleep well, our brains and bodies are more resilient, making us better at healing, fighting infection, concentrating and making decisions.
Avoid alcohol and caffeine in the run up to bed time, as both disrupt the brain’s natural restorative activity and block deep sleep, which is key to optimal health.
MAKE TIME FOR MOVEMENT
Exercise is great for physical health but
movement is just as important for our mental health, and ability to handle stress. Our bodies react to stress in the same way they might if encountering a bear in the wilderness! Allowing them the chance to move and release the build up of tension that comes from being in a stressful state, helps them to calm down and return to a state of normal. Movement in any shape or form also encourages deep or mindful breathing, which is another brilliant way of reducing stress and calming the mind and body. Aim for at least 20-30 minutes of your movement of choice per day.
EAT FOODS THAT HELP TO LOWER INFLAMMATION
The reason stress is so harmful is that it causes damage to the body known as oxidative stress. This can result in aches and pains, slow healing and a higher chance of catching a cold. Eating foods that help reduce this damage, are commonly referred to as antiinflammatory, as they promote healing and calm the stress response, aiding everything from gut and hormonal health to improving mood. Some of the best anti-inflammatory foods to include in your meals are: berries, ginger, garlic, dark green leafy vegetables, oily fish, nuts and seeds, avocado and wholegrains.
TAKE REGULAR BREAKS
When you have an endless to-do list, it’s easy to assume every spare moment should be used to work through as much of it as possible. Taking
proper breaks and using that time to actually relax, will calm your otherwise overworked nervous system and help your body return to a rested state. Use those moments to distract yourself with something calming, such as music, conversation or a proper lunch break away from a screen. Not only will this help reduce how stressed you feel, you will digest meals better and feel less fatigued too.
EAT REGULAR, WHOLESOME MEALS
It might sound obvious, but one of the best things you can do for your health is to eat wholesome, balanced meals at a regular time each day. The body loves habit and thrives on routine, so regular meals will help nourish and support a stressed body. Making sure you’re eating foods that include complex carbs will help you maintain energy, support normal body function and improve general health. Look for wholegrains and vegetables; protein like fish, chicken, beans and pulses; and healthy fats such as oily fish, nuts, seeds, avocado and olive oil.

HONEYMOON NEWS 93
HAMPSHIRE! Hooray for
the New Forest to find out what makes it such a special spot for mini-mooners
I’ma huge advocate for mini-mooning in the UK (obviously), and since the dark days of lockdown it’s increasingly become the thing to do –short trip post W-day here in Blighty followed by an overseas vacay later on if you’re so inclined. I’m here to tell you that for the former you’ll struggle to find better than the glorious New Forest. I recently visited two incredible hotels in Hampshire, each one perfect for newlyweds in their own way.
GREAT EXPECTATIONS
After a picturesque drive through the New Forest spent pony spotting, we pulled up at Grade II listed hotel The Montagu Arms, tucked away in a quiet corner of Beaulieu, our first port of call on this trip. Incidentally, thanks to the rain I never did see a pony! The ample car park is located behind the hotel, so our introduction to the place was via the absolutely delightful grounds, reminiscent of the eponymous childhood story, The Secret Garden. Scattered with water features, beautifully tended flower beds, lawns and cobbled paths wending their way to the entrance, I only wished the weather had been kind enough to let us enjoy them more.
AN IDYLLIC RETREAT
Boasting 22 bedrooms and suites in the main house, with 33 in total within the hotel, each has it’s own unique design and layout, featuring the ultimate combination of comfort and sophistication. Decorated in a chic and charming country-house style, the soft tones and textures used to create a peaceful space were right up my street.
Our home away from home for the night was one of the property’s stunning Courtyard Retreats hidden amongst the aforementioned gardens and converted from the house’s original 1920s chauffeur’s garages. I don’t know what I was expecting, but to call Hazel a “room” would be doing it a gross disservice. With the look of a space taken straight from the pages of Home & Garden magazine, its vast glass façade looked out over the central courtyard allowing the best of the outside in, and
the team have left no stone unturned when it comes to providing all the comforts you could wish for. This even extends to the smallest of details such as the mini torch attached to the retreat’s keyring, to help you find your way safely through the gardens to the hotel at dinner time, or stagger back after a hearty meal and perhaps a wine flight.
Let’s talk about the bathroom! Possibly on a par with the footprint of my entire house, it boasted a roll top bath, twin sinks, walk-in shower, bidet, and the necessary, of course. You’re never going to step on each other’s toes getting ready here, and the SenSpa toiletries were a real treat, as well as a hint of what awaited on day two.
I can’t recommend this spot highly enough to newlyweds. It’s the perfect retreat for a secluded, romantic, relaxing break.
TIME TO DINE
It was time to see if dinner in The Terrace, the hotel’s awardwinning restaurant, was equal to the benchmark laid down by our accommodation. Marketing hails it as offering an unparalleled finedining experience, and I can’t argue with that. Led by executive chef, Dan Burrell, the menus here champion seasonality and fresh, hyper-local Hampshire ingredients, including produce from the hotel’s own bountiful organic kitchen garden.
Looking at the menu it was a difficult choice, but ultimately I opted for the 42-day aged beef tartare with horseradish and onion purée to start; followed by Cornish red mullet with champagne sauce, artichoke, mussels, and pink fir potatoes. I finished my meal with a delicious selection of local cheese and biscuits. Every mouthful of the entire meal was an explosion of flavour and culinary discovery, while the knowledgeable and charming sommelier, Paulo, selected the perfect English wine to go with it – a Kentish Chapel Down Bacchus, plus a cheeky taste of Norfolk’s Winbirri Bacchus. No evening would be complete without a nightcap, so we headed to the tranquil lounge for a Brandy Alexander, which I’ve since decided is my new favourite cocktail!

Kelly Andrews headed to
ON THE ROAD AGAIN
Incredibly sad to leave the hotel and it’s charming, friendly and helpful team, we set off after a hearty breakfast and hit the road again. Our destination was a mere six miles away in beautiful Brockenhurst: Carey’s Manor Hotel, The Montagu’s sister establishment. Although downhearted to see the latter in my rear-view mirror, it didn’t take me long to turn my thoughts to the planned day ahead spent in SenSpa at my next destination – the excitement was back!
It’s worth pointing out at this juncture that residents of The Montagu Arms can enjoy complimentary access to SenSpa, including it’s indoor pool, Jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and gym, with treatments and access to the hydrotherapy pool available at an additional cost. The kind folk there even offer free transfers. The choice of where you decide to rest your head is, purely down to your personal style. Where The Montagu Arms is intimate, boutique, tranquil, and secluded; Carey’s Manor offers 18th-century grandeur, vibrancy and a myriad of spaces to enjoy from the aforementioned spa, to its three restaurants, including modern British brasserie Cambium, traditional French bistro Le Blaireau, and authentic Thai restaurant Zen Garden.
PERFECTLY PAMPERED
On arrival, I wasted no time whatsoever in heading straight to the awardwinning SenSpa. A world-class Thai spa focusing on holistic wellness, inspired by ancient Eastern rituals, it was unlike any I’d been to before, so I was interested to see what the experience would have in store. We’d been treated to Hydrotherapy Pool access, and I was like a kid in a sweetshop. But where to begin? Across two floors, this state-of-the-art facility features the pool itself, crystal steam room, ice room, experience showers, herbal sauna and so much more. Adding this to your visit is something I would most definitely encourage as it’s not to be missed. My treatment was booked for the afternoon – a relaxing, full-body Thai massage using SenSpa’s very own natural products, which lifted me away on a cloud of aroma and ultimate relaxation. My therapist was incredible and really listened to me when I talked to her about problem areas and the amount of pressure I’d like. I headed back to the pool with a spring in my step, feeling revitalised and light as a feather.
There’s a wide range of spa packages available, so there’s bound to be something to suit you both and help you unwind following the highs of W-day.
BON APPETIT
By the time I managed to tear myself away from the calming waters of
SenSpa, there was just enough time to pop back to our gorgeous suite to brush up for dinner. Mum and I were thrilled by its two bathrooms, meaning we could both get ready in double quick time without fighting for mirror or sink space! The hotel has 77 bedrooms and suites all designed with tranquillity in mind. Some Manor Rooms in the main house feature a four-poster bed – honeymoon romance goals. Meanwhile, The Garden Rooms are more contemporary, each with a balcony or patio overlooking the grounds. The newly-designed suites offer a luxurious escape with features such as a roof terrace, spacious living area and chic, marble bathroom.
Our table was booked in Le Blaireau, which promised a menu of regional French food. Given it’s location at the other side of this vast hotel, and the fact the rain still hadn’t let up, we were happy indeed to hear that we didn’t need to set foot outside and could cheerfully wend our way through the cosy corridors to reach the restaurant. As I pushed open an unassuming door at the end of a corridor, I let out a gasp of delight. Was this the Hampshire equivalent of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe? It was as though I’d stepped into the cobbled streets of Paris with the iconic Art Nouveau Metro sign in front of me and shop fronts complete with awning to my right. Past a vintage Citroen DS, lies the main restaurant, every bit the classic French bistro of a bygone era. So... much... fun!
The menu here is humble and indulgent – fine by me – I was ravenous after such a tiring day in the spa! I dined on a soufflé au fromage, a tasty burger from the specials board and crème brulee, all washed down with a glass of French wine, before going to bed full, relaxed, completely content, and dreaming of those illusive New Forest ponies.

HONEYMOON REVIEW 95
OF LOVEThe city
Aftera speedy trip on the Eurostar and a leisurely stroll, we arrived at the Shangri-La Paris. With all that Paris has to offer, the actual accommodation you find yourself using can often feel like an afterthought. However, with the history and majesty of the Shangri-La Paris, the hotel is as much a tourist destination as the Louvre, Arc de Triomphe or even the Eiffel Tower. A former home of Prince Roland Bonaparte, overlooking the River Seine, the hotel is centrally located in the 16th arrondissement and seamlessly blends European grandeur with traditional Asian hospitality.
FIT FOR ROYALTY
Upon arrival, we were greeted by a welcoming member of the hotel concierge who checked in our bags while we were given a guided tour. The building is a stunning feat of architecture and the location alone is enough to take your breath away. The hotel has plenty of stand-out features (too many to mention), but the impressive marble-lined swimming pool converted from the former stables, the relaxing spa, state-of-the-art health club and stunning entrance hall are all must-sees.
If you want to relax with a drink in your hand, then you’ll feel right at home in the stunningly decorated Le Bar Botaniste or Les Lounges, both of which offer a friendly and impressive service.
SUITE DREAMS
Catching our breath for a moment, we were shown to our suite. In all honesty, the view of the Eiffel Tower a few hundred feet away, in plain sight of our room, made it very hard to focus on the suite itself for a good few minutes! But after wiping the stardust from our eyes, we discovered that we had been treated to a magnificent space. The biggest bed I’d ever seen, a walk-in wardrobe and a lavish bathroom greeted us; with every aspect of the room designed around that view. The attention to detail was beyond anything I could have imagined with every amenity you could possibly need at your fingertips.
One of my favourite aspects was the balcony, which showed the tower in all its splendour and views of the city at every turn. Sitting there with a cup of tea and homemade macarons was one of the highlights of the trip, and I opted to be out on the balcony every spare moment I had.
EAST MEETS WEST
There are two restaurants at Shangri-La Paris, both of which are beautifully decorated with stand-out food. Shang Palace, where I had the pleasure of dining, is France’s only Michelin-starred Chinese restaurant and what a treat it was! Inspired by Southeast China’s culinary traditions, the restaurant offers authentic Chinese cuisine by chef Samuel Lee.
With so much choice, we were a little lost for words, but thankfully the charming hostess was very helpful and suggested options that she felt we would enjoy.
Every dish was incredible and the food complemented the surroundings perfectly. We started with the chef’s special sashimi; immaculately prepared, it set the standard for what was to follow. The lobster dumplings were a particular favourite of mine and is something I’d eat every day if possible. After several dishes, it was safe to say I was stuffed, but when the dessert arrived, I couldn’t help myself; the rice balls with mixed fruits and whipped cream was delicious and one of the best desserts I’ve ever had. If you’re looking for a once-in-a-lifetime meal, then this is it. It’s been months since we visited, but we still talk about how delicious everything was.
TRUE ROMANCE
With such awe-inspiring surroundings, we couldn’t resist a short stroll over to the Trocadéro and across the Seine to the Eiffel Tower. As beautiful a sight at night as during the day, we couldn’t believe our fortune.
When we eventually headed back to the hotel, we wearily made our way up to our bedroom. The suite had an impressive TV, but it almost felt like a redundancy next to the view from the windows. I’m typically a blackout sleeper, but on this occasion, I had to sleep with the curtains wide open.
After a wonderful night’s sleep, we ordered breakfast to our room and enjoyed it out on our balcony terrace. Barely noticing the brisk February weather, we dined in what felt like the historic heart of Paris. Breakfast was up to the high standards we’d come to expect from the Shangri-La Paris, and when it came to checking out, we felt devastated to be leaving. I can say with absolute certainty that we left with our chi restored and look forward to returning in the near future!

Melissa Cullen reveals why Paris is the perfect honeymoon destination
96
For our second evening in Paris, we had the fortune of being hosted by the Hôtel Dame des Arts. Just a stone’s throw from Notre-Dame, it’s located in the Latin Quarte, which is considered the artistic heart of Paris. The hotel boasts terrace rooms looking out to the Eiffel Tower, a spacious and luxurious rooftop bar, and a charming secret garden courtyard – a gem in the centre of a bustling, metropolitan area.
Entering through a sleek, sliding door, we felt like we’d been invited into an ultra-secretive club. The hotel’s lobby, with its dark motif, stylish sofas and low lighting simultaneously blended Art Deco architecture with the feel of a futuristic nightclub. After checking in, we were shown up to our room, which continued the theme exhibited in the lobby. The architectural vision of the hotel is singular, drawing you completely into the world the owners have created.
SLEEK AND SOPHISTICATED
Our room was the natural extension of the hotel; with all the amenities any couple could desire. Every aspect had been well thought out and cleverly made use of the space available. A sliding, frosted-glass door separated the bedroom from the bathroom area, and the use of lighting and sleek, curved panelling made us feel like we were on the set of a high-budget movie. Our room even had a terrace looking out to the Eiffel Tower, bringing us back into the heart of Paris.
DRINK IT ALL IN
After dropping off our bags, we were given a guided tour of the hotel. The beautifully arranged restaurant and bar giving way through an impressive door to a stunning garden space. A mix of comfortable furniture and grounding flora, the tranquillity of the area makes you forget being mere feet away from the busy streets surrounding the hotel – a true feat. Our next stop was the hotel’s gym. The curved, wooden panelling enveloping the walls of the room is really a sight to behold. The final stop of our tour was the building’s rooftop terrace, and I assure you, our guide had saved the best for last. The terrace looks out in every direction across Paris, choosing a seating location is an almost impossible task!
Major sightseer locations such as the Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame and the Panthéon are all visible from the terrace; with stunning pieces of Parisian history everywhere you look. I can imagine sitting at the bar on a summer’s evening watching the sun go down over one of the most beautiful cities in the world being a truly transformative experience.
FOOD, GLORIOUS FOOD
Once our tour had ended, we made our way down to the restaurant for dinner. Starting with a cocktail in hand, the space had a buzzing atmosphere and was full of people laughing and enjoying the splendour. My hubby and I ordered the corn ribs with magic mayo and cotija cheese as a starter and were impressed by the delicious taste and presentation. After examining the menu and struggling to choose just one dish for our main, we asked our friendly waiter for his recommendations. We chose to share the pork ribs in a Roja and Verde sauce, and when it arrived at our table, we were both incredibly excited for what was to come. Every part was wonderful, and although we were sure we wouldn’t be able to fit any dessert, when we saw the menu, we just had to try the chocolate ganache cake with coffee cream. I’m a big sweet person, so the dessert ticked all of my boxes, and I would happily eat it over and over again if I could!
A FOND FAREWELL
After a busy few days exploring the city, it’s safe to say we were in need of some sleep. As soon as my head hit the pillow, I drifted off and awoke never wanting to leave.
When we eventually motivated ourselves to go downstairs for breakfast, everything looked delicious and we couldn’t decide between the continental or cooked option or which of the vast array of drinks to go for. The food was delicious and when it came to checking out, we felt incredibly sad to be leaving and wished we could re-live the experience all over again. We’ll be heading back to Paris soon, and when we do, we’ll definitely be staying at both of these fabulous hotels again.
