The perfect day

FIVE MINUTES WITH…

This issue we caught up with Bethany Morris Music to discover more about the company. When did the company start? I started Bethany Morris Music in 2014 after performing at various weddings and events with different ensembles over the years. I wanted to branch out on my own and create a business to provide highquality music for smaller weddings at an affordable price – that’s exactly what I did. What do you offer couples on their wedding day? I’m available to play for ceremonies and receptions. I offer solo cello with either professional backing tracks to accompany me or with a live piano provided by pianist Jane Olson whom I have worked with for many years. This offers flexibility to clients when considering the amount of space available at the venue and budget. I have an extensive repertoire to choose from with classical, contemporary and pop covers. However, I’m always happy to source or arrange music for bookings if that special piece you want isn’t already on my playlist. What’s the highlight of your job? I love all aspects of my job, but the performance element is my favourite. To take part in a couple’s wedding day and see their faces and reactions when a particular piece of music starts to play is a definite highlight. Check out the website: www.bethanymorrismusic.com 9

REAL WEDDINGS

A

fter an introduction through mutual friends, it wasn’t until nine years ago that Amber and Aaron really got to know each other at a local music festival. Amber says, “We were glued together all day; I loved how kind, caring and funny he was – we’ve been inseparable ever since.” Back in June 2015, Aaron proposed during a trip away in Newcastle to celebrate Amber’s birthday. She says, “I had no idea it was coming; he was nervous all day and then brought out a scrapbook with pictures from over the last few years. There was a photo on the last page of our, at the time, 10-month-old baby in a babygrow saying ‘mummy – will you marry daddy?’ It melted my heart and I immediately said yes!” The couple’s wedding was set for February 23rd 2020, and the pair planned their perfect day.

SETTING THE SCENE When it came to finding the perfect wedding venue, what location could be better to hold such a special day than Swancar Farm Country House? The bride says, “I spent my childhood growing up near the venue and would pass it every day on the way to school, college and then work – I had always dreamt of getting married there.” The decorations on the day looked marvellous and Pinterest provided the nearlyweds with plenty of inspiration! A copper stand was used for the table plan with a macrame backdrop and ‘floating’ names and table numbers placed on fishing wire. This was switched with a personalised ‘The Launders’ sign in the evening with the addition of an instant camera and a suitcase full of fancy dress items for guests to take fun photos. The centrepieces included luscious greenery and tealights, which looked beautiful! Each place setting had sprigs of greenery and grey sashes on the backs of chairs to bring the whole look together. The bride chose a green bouquet filled with ruscus, eucalyptus, thistles and other rustic-styled greenery in keeping with the theme – the bridesmaids all had mini versions of this. For favours, guests had little tubes of flavoured gin that went down a treat! Little jars of pick ‘n’ mix were given to nondrinkers, and children had colouring books and pens to keep them occupied. The venue was in charge of catering and did a fantastic job; there was roasted pepper tomato and mozzarella bruschetta for starters, chicken and leek pie with mustard mash, broccoli and carrots for main and sticky toffee pudding with a butterscotch sauce and vanilla ice cream for dessert. The bride says, “The food was to die for, we thought it couldn’t be beaten until we had a selection of stonebaked pizzas from the venue’s new pizza oven. Myself, the groom, best man and our parents sat down at the end of the night in The Orangery munching on leftover pizzas and taking in the whole day – it was a highlight of the evening!”

LOOKING THE PART The bride wore the Verdelle 2.0 dress by Grace Loves Lace; it was everything she had dreamt of since a young girl. The bride says, “I knew it was the one as soon as I tried it on; I couldn’t get it out of my mind despite trying on many other gowns. Every woman has things they’re self-conscious about, but I felt so beautiful on the day and couldn’t wait for Aaron to see the dress I’d been banging on about all year!” A flowercrown and a personalised ‘Mrs Launder’ white and gold clutch bag finished off her look perfectly. 33 

REAL WEDDINGS

The groom and groomsmen all wore brown/grey tweed suits with waistcoats, but Aaron wore a paisley tie to stand out from the others. Their son, Harrison, wore a suit with similar material and colours to match his dad as an exact match couldn’t be found. He looked adorable and had a top mission to keep the rings safe before the ceremony! The bridesmaids wore gorgeous, pleated dresses with plunge necklines and lace trim on the backs. Amber says, “It complemented everyone’s figures beautifully; I couldn’t believe how gorgeous they all looked! Our daughter and flowergirl Piper wore a white dress similar to mine with lace detailing – she looked like a princess.”

TIME TO CELEBRATE A fantastic live acoustic act called Richard Jenkins played while the bride walked down the aisle and entertained guests during the reception. Amber comments, “I went to school with him and he’s so talented! His laid-back music was one of the highlights of our day.” IB Disco performed in the evening with strobe lighting and played ’80s classics to ’90s dance anthems and even a few song requests – guests were up on the dancefloor dancing the night away. “Luckily, we had a box of flip flops for guests; I’d be feeling sorry for their feet the next day otherwise,” says the bride.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS After creating the perfect life together, the couple loved having their nearest and dearest together in one space. Amber says, “I still can’t believe we managed to have a wedding despite COVID-19; it was the last time we spent time with all our friends and family – so that’s magical in itself. My mum’s speech was really special, I never knew my dad and was so proud of her getting up and doing it in front of everyone.” The day was full of funny moments such as drunken antics from the bridal party to the groom pulling out a canvas picture of their stag party in Benidorm during the speeches. Overall, the day was a rememberable one, and their photographer did a fantastic job of capturing special moments without anyone noticing!

HONEYMOON The couple jetted off to Dubai for three nights followed by four nights in the Maldives on Kuramathi Island. Amber says, “It was the best holiday we’ve ever been on and we’ll definitely be going back! The week we arrived home from our honeymoon, the island went into quarantine because of a confirmed COVID-19 case – so we were pretty gutted that we didn’t get to quarantine in the Maldives for two weeks!” 35 

Richard and Victoria’s wedding featured hues of dusty blue and burgundy Images courtesy of James Mottram Wedding Photography

R

ichard and Victoria first crossed paths on Tinder back in 2016 and instantly hit it off. “We always had an easy time finding something to talk about over text and decided to meet up at The Exchange Bar in Leicester where we had the best first date and couldn’t stop talking”, says Victoria. Two months later, she was discussing Richard with a friend when she realised how strong her feelings were for him; he really was the one for her. Richard knew she was his soulmate during a stag do to Vegas, where he started to miss Victoria. Fast forward two years, Richard popped the question during 37

a romantic, candlelit dinner. Victoria comments, “We’d spoken briefly about marriage and both wanted to say ‘I do’ in the future, but we’d never really discussed it apart from that. He cooked an impressive Spanish tapas meal and halfway through dinner, he disappeared off upstairs and snuck the ring box back down with him. I didn’t realise anything was going on until he held my hand and got down on one knee – I was completely shocked! There was so much happiness and tears that we never ended up finishing the lovely meal he’d made!” Here Victoria shares details about their special day... 37

We wanted to have a fun day that all our family and friends loved.

After quite a few weekends searching for a venue, we visited Prestwold Hall and instantly fell in love!

Each guest was given little Lindt chocolates for favours as well as a personalised face mask and hand sanitiser due to getting married during a pandemic.

Jessica at Bramble and Twine provided all of our flowers, which included a big arrangement in the ceremony room and flowers for the centrepieces.

Venue stylist Vickie at Sage and Belle Styling created a romantic atmosphere with lots of stick candles and tea lights.

Our two-tiered cake created by Lucy at Bakerlu was incredible and included dried flowers which matched our colour theme. The bottom tier had a blue marble-style with prosecco and passion fruit flavours, while the white chocolate and raspberry top tier was white.

38

REAL WEDDINGS

Prestwold Hall couldn’t hold the sit down meal aspect for only 15 guests due to COVID-19 restrictions, so we ended up moving our wedding breakfast to The Royal Arms at Sutton Cheney. The venue had a smaller private room which worked perfectly!

We had a classic Beauford Tourer adorned with ivory ribbons for our transport.

As soon as I put on a Stella York dress from Dress Me Pretty Bridal Room in Hinckley, I knew it was the one!

The groom and groomsmen wore matching suits, but Richard wore an ivory waistcoat to standout.

The bridesmaids wore dusty blue chiffon dresses.

We had an acoustic guitarist called Paul Martin to entertain our guests, he created a romantic atmosphere and everyone loved him!

39

The ceremony was my favourite part of the day; it was so emotional and romantic.

Nearly everyone at the table ended up giving an impromptu speech – it was so lovely and made us both feel very loved!

Rich said it was the happiest half-day of his life; he was really nervous in the morning, but was so happy after the ceremony.

Our guest list was reduced from 75 to 15 because of restrictions, but the best man (the groom’s brother) and maid-of-honour (my sister) asked all our missing guests to record video messages, which was played after the speeches! We were genuinely shocked and it was so emotional – I cried all the way through!

PLANNING SOS Top tips from local experts to help organise your dream day

ROBYN WOOD AT PERFECT SILHOUETTE HAIRDRESSING

GEORGIA GALE AT GEEK VIDEO My advice would be to set a realistic budget when planning the special day, keep in mind that the average wedding costs around £16,000. Then create a list of items and suppliers in order of priority and add how much you’re willing to spend next to each one. You may have to compromise on things if you don’t have an unlimited budget, but there are many ways you can save money such as getting married on a weekday. Don’t settle on things that

www.auroragrey.co.uk

Many couples book a hair stylist later on in the planning process, but my advice would be to book this early on to ensure no disappointment. Take time to browse through the company’s portfolio to see if they’ve created styles you are after. It’s essential to make sure you love the supplier’s work and get on well with the them as you’ll be spending most of the wedding morning in their company. Make sure to think about your attire and wedding theme when searching for a hair style. It’s helpful to save inspiration photos on Pinterest or Instagram to give your stylist a great idea of what you like and to make sure you’re both on the same wavelength. Finally, my top tip would be to have a hair trial before purchasing any hair accessories; this way you’ll find the perfect hairstyle without worrying about anything else. Then you can find pieces that will complement the look. Check out the website: www.perfectsilhouettehairdressing.com are important to you, if your heart is set on a designer wedding dress then buy it and compromise on something else instead. However, invest in anything that’s around after the special day such as videography, photography and wedding rings – these are the things that will last for many years. Lastly, use social media to find suppliers who may not appear on internet searches to broaden your search. Check out: www.geekvideo.co.uk

SAMANTHA HARRISON AT BLONDELLE BEAUTY

www.instagram.com/phil_lynam

When it comes to planning the perfect make-up look, here are a few factors to keep in mind! The key to smooth and glowing skin is exfoliating, a lot of brides miss out this step in their skincare routines but it’s crucial to achieve the ultimate bridal beauty look. The right exfoliator will get rid of dead skin and improve the longevity of the make-up. The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution is a great choice if you’re on a budget. Next, enhancing what you naturally have in the brow department is essential to achieving a classic bridal look. A brow lamination service is perfect for brides as it shapes, tints and defines your natural hairs so that you have fuller, fluffier brows to work with. Also invest in a long-wearing brow pencil just in case you need to subtly fill in any sparse areas. Lastly, think about what lipstick shade you want to wear as pale lip colours can look washed out in photographs. Make sure to wear a lipstick that’s one to two shades brighter than your natural lip colour, the right shade should flatter your complexion and give the face a lift – Sandwash Pink by Bobbi Brown is a great lip colour that’s always in my kit. Make sure you nourish the lips with lip balm consistently a week before the special day so you can achieve the perfect pout. Check out: www.blondellebeauty.co.uk

ANNA-MARIA D’AMATO AT THE HOUSE OF ANNA COUTURE Your wedding gown is perhaps the only time in your life when you’ll spend a small fortune on a garment for its sheer beauty alone, but finding that extra special dress can be a daunting task. Start by thinking of what clothing styles suit you best and then work out a budget for the dress, shoes and headdress. Then it’s time to start trying the gowns on; the type of wedding you’re having will influence the dress style. There might seem like an endless range, but there are only a handful of silhouettes for a classic dress. Be aware that there are hundreds of different shades of white and ivory out there, and try to have interesting details on the back for guests to see during the ceremony. Your budget will dictate the fabric of the dress, the more material used in the gown will result in a higher price. As a professional designer and dressmaker, my brides can pick fabrics and trimmings around their budget to suit the design – remember, dressmakers will quote on materials and labour costs. Make sure to check how many fittings are required for the dress and attend them all to make sure you’re happy with the final fit. It’s also important to be honest with your dressmaker; it’s as much about trust as it is getting your gown right. Check out: www.facebook.com/Houseofannacouture

PLANNING FLOWERS SOS DEAN ANDERSON AT SAINT CRISPIN BESPOKE MENSWEAR You’ll want to look good in wedding photos but watch out for poorly fitted suits which easily show up on camera! Jackets and sleeves that are too long or short, and trousers that hang in copious pleats around the ankles are some of the issues we see regularly. Hiring suits has, until recently, been a popular option for couples, and buying online seems like the obvious solution for many as it’s a cheap, quick and easy process; but it’s not quite that straightforward as finding the same style and correct fit for everyone is tricky. Buying on the high street isn’t much better, will all the groomsmen fit perfectly into them? Keep in mind that you’ll need to add in the cost of alterations to the final price which could add another £100 or more per suit. A far better option is bespoke tailoring; this cuts out all of the stress and worry of finding good quality suits with far more choices of fabrics to pick from. Expert tailoring will ensure all your groomsmen look and feel fantastic. For the groom, you might also wish to consider a waistcoat to stand out from the rest of the group where the suit’s lining colour can be carried through to the waistcoat for extra impact. Check out: www.saintcrispin.co.uk

Wedding planning is daunting, now more so than ever before due to COVID-19. If you’re at the beginning of your wedding journey, allow yourself plenty of time for planning and do not allow it to become a chore. If this starts to happen, take a step back and look into having a wedding planning consultation with an expert to help. My biggest piece of advice to newly engaged couples is to sit down together and make a list of your top three elements of the day; this could be music, food or your dress. This will give you a starting point and a clear vision of what’s important to you both – it will also help create a budget. Do some research on the average costs of suppliers so that it doesn’t come as a shock when you request a quote. If a quote you receive seems a little low, maybe do some further investigating and ask questions and check whether they have insurance. We all love a good bargain but if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. You don’t want to be taking risks on your wedding day. Just remember it is your wedding, don’t fall into the trap of trying to accommodate everyone else at the expense of what you want, and enjoy the planning process! Check out: www.noahbella.co.uk

BERRY NICE

Natura Siberica has launched an affordable vegan-certified range of beauty products based exclusively on altai oblepikha berries, a rich source of vitamin C. From face masks to serums, the C-Berrica collection has it all. I like the sound of the Renewal Foaming Face Powder (£8.49), which foams gently when it meets water and cleanses your skin, helping to remove impurities and make-up residue. Plus, its BHA acids improve skin texture speeding up cell renewal and deep cleans pores. Discover the full collection at www.naturasiberica.co.uk

No need for needles! CLEAN AND CLEAR

We all know about the barrage of environmental abuse our facial skin battles on a daily basis, but what about our scalps? They too are faced with the impact of sweat, pollution, and various styling products. Centred creative director Kieran Tudor says, “Good scalp health is crucial for strong, healthy, beautiful hair, yet it’s often overlooked when it comes to hair care regimes.” A deeply nourishing blend of olive, argan and hemp oils, Centred En-Root Scalp Treatment replenishes moisture to dry brittle hair, while exfoliating the scalp and removing product build up and dead skin cells. What’s more, the blend of rosemary and peppermint essential oils stimulates blood flow to the hair follicles maximising hair growth potential. Priced at £36 from www.wearecentred.com

Self-tanning fave Skinny Tan has unveiled its latest product – Notox Beauty Elixir. It’s a smoothing, plumping facial serum specifically formulated to supply your skin with instant anti-aging effects and a glowing gradual selftan. Using stoechiol naturally derived from butterfly lavender, it immobilises wrinkles and re-densifies the epidermis leading to a rapid and lasting reduction in the depth of express lines. So, say “no” to Botox, and “yes” to Notox! Getting Zoom-ready and embracing the minimal make-up look has never been easier. Notox Beauty Elixir is available at www.skinnytan.co.uk, priced at £19.99.

F

amed for her flawless skin, popular TV personality Jess Wright is a busy, gogetting woman. Whether she’s on a shoot, busy filming, hosting her podcast – Girls #NoFilter, planning next year’s wedding to William Lee-Kemp, or hard at work in her role as Crystal Clear’s first celebrity ambassador, her perfect skin is the envy of all. Keen to know her secret, CWM beauty editor Kelly Andrews sat down for a chat with the reality star to get the lowdown, just for you! Jess, thanks for making time in your hectic schedule to talk to us and huge congratulations on your forthcoming wedding. How do you imagine your big day? Thank you! I imagine it to be beautiful, full of love and hopefully classy. As long as I’m surrounded by my family and loved ones, that’s the most important thing. How did William propose? He did it on the balcony of our beautiful hotel room in the mountains in Courchevel. It was both spectacular and amazing. What’s your vision for your bridal beauty look? Good skin is the perfect base so I’ll be prepping with some fab Crystal Clear COMCIT facials in the run up to the big day for sure. Then I’ll want my make-up to be slightly natural, with that dewy glow and some wispy lashes.

Absolutely

FLAWLESS

Our beauty editor caught up with Jess Wright to discuss wedding plans and just how she achieves that perfect complexion

72

Do you have a picture of your dream dress in mind? I’ve tried on so many dresses, but I definitely have a vision. I think I’ve chosen the one. Completely understand you playing the cards close to your chest there! We look forward to the surprise. As the voice of experience, can you share with us your top wedding planning tips? I’d say, make sure you have a good wedding planner. Also, do the guest list, but don’t send the invitations out until later, as it’ll definitely alter as time goes on! So many couples have been forced to re-plan their weddings as a result of the pandemic. Have you encountered any such difficulties and do you have any advice for other couples facing the same challenges? We’ve considered moving the wedding, but

BEAUTY INTERVIEW

at the minute it’s a day-by-day update, so we’re going to make the final decision in the spring. If you’re not time restricted, I’d say move yours to 2022 if possible, so you can really enjoy the process rather than struggling through the pandemic. Leading a jam-packed celebrity lifestyle while planning a wedding must make you an extremely busy lady! How do you juggle it all while still looking fabulous and flawless? I love keeping busy, so I was really excited about planning a wedding on top of my already hectic lifestyle, but unfortunately

that hasn’t happened as the pandemic and various lockdowns have slowed me down. It has meant though that I’ve had plenty of time on my hands to plan the wedding! What are your make-up bag must haves? I love Chanel foundation for a quick matte bronze. Also, a good eyebrow pencil and a nourishing lip balm. I always keep the Crystal Clear Beach Glow Tanning Drops in my kit too. They’re amazing for adding a subtle glow to your skin and you can dial it up depending on the depth of colour you’re looking for. Tell us why you love Crystal Clear. I’m so excited to be chosen as the first ever ambassador for Crystal Clear Skincare. Their products are my holy grail and having tried so many different brands over the years, I just love the results you get with Crystal Clear, so it’s amazing to be working with the brand. The range is extensive with something to suit all skin types and concerns. The Ionic Sonic2 Microdermabrasion Kit is my ultimate secret to Insta-ready, super-cleansed skin. I’m also a big fan of the salon treatments, especially the COMCIT facial. It really is the most fantastic treatment for softer, firmer and hydrated skin.

Which is your favourite product from the range? I’d have to say The Lifting Wand, one of the brand’s beauty tools. It comes with its pharma-grade product, which is packed with hyaluronic acid. You use it for 60 seconds every day and it gives you deep hydration, depuffs eyes, plumps skin and lifts it. It’s really easy to use and fits into your daily routine. For a quick skin fix, I’d also highly recommend the 10 Minute Glow Mask, which literally does what it says on the tin and gives you glowing skin in just 10 minutes. It’s incredibly satisfying to peel off as well! What’s your number one beauty tip for brides? Focus on your skin. Glowing skin is the best thing on your wedding day in terms of beauty, so do whatever you need to make it feel its best. Finally, what’s next for you? Hopefully my wedding! Also, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, the musical I’m in. This is all dependant on the pandemic though. Sending my love to everyone at this time. Finishing Touch Flawless Dermaplane Glo, £19.99 Available at Argos, ASDA, Boots, Tesco and Wilko Dermaplaning as a salon treatment has been around for a while, and quite frankly the very thought of it has always terrified me. So, I wasn’t too sure what to expect of this tool. I did my research on the benefits, genned up on this super-useful tutorial and I was ready to go. Wow, I don’t know what I was so worried about. It was easy to do and took no more than five to 10 minutes. Probably 10 for me as I got a bit addicted and couldn’t stop – I don’t recommend that though. It’s an incredibly satisfying process seeing all of that peach fuzz and dead skin disappear. I couldn’t believe how smooth my skin felt afterwards. Leave your skin to rest for around eight hours afterwards before you apply any skin products or make-up as it’s quite an intense exfoliation process, then repeat every two to four weeks. I can’t wait to see how regular use improves my skin further. I’m definitely sold on dermaplaning!

Kevyn Aucoin Kaleidochrome All-Over Highlight Palette, £39 www.lookfantastic.com This multi-tasking palette offers four shades of highlight suitable whatever the look you’re going for. I particularly loved the darker rose Space Party, which I used on my cheeks over my blusher for a radiant glow and Super Cosmic, which I added to the arch of my eyebrows and very top of my cheekbones. It really brought a multi-dimensional look to my make-up that can be tailored for day or night.

TRIED AND TESTED

I was surprised to find a balm texture when I first removed the lid, so was interested to see how this would go. Using the supplied spatula to remove the required amount of mask from the tub, I opted for generous dollop and began to massage it into my face as instructed. Its thick formula felt incredibly luxurious and I could already tell it was going to provide a pampering experience. I was particularly delighted by the advice to leave for a minimum of 30 minutes, which gave me an excuse to relax for a decent amount of time – none of this 10 minutes rubbish! When it was time to remove with warm water, I was delighted to find my skin looking renewed, beautifully supple and glowing.

PUT A SPRING IN YOUR STEP CWM’s beauty editor puts this season’s best buys to the test creating a head-to-toe makeover session you’ll love

Sculpted by Aimee Connolly Lip Duo, £18 www.sculptedbyaimee.com I’m a huge advocate for lip liners and their myriad benefits, but I do struggle to know which shade goes with which lipstick, find the two become separated and will admit to resenting buying both in the first place. So, these Lip Duos are a blessing! Not only are they perfectly colour matched offering you two products for the average price of one, but if your make-up bag is already packed, like mine, they offer a smart solution. I tried Mauve Match, which is a versatile neutral shade, ideal for everyday wear.

No Secrets One Body Jelly, £49 www.nosecretsbeauty.com This jellied body oil smells absolutely incredible with No Secrets’ signature blend of essential oils – bergamot, juniper, petitgrain, eucalyptus and lavender. Less messy than a traditional body oil, you just need to massage a little in at a time for smooth and beautifully soft skin. Plus, the amazing fragrance lasts. Perfect for a pamper.

Margaret Dabbs Cracked Heel Treatment, £18 www.margaretdabbs.co.uk Let me start by confessing that my heels are horrendous, always cracked and dry and nothing I try makes a difference. Until now that is. This product was well and truly put through its paces by my horrible hooves and the results were instant. After just one application the sandpaper effect was gone and with continued use it really is a miracle worker. It’s my new beauty essential, and I can’t wait to get the flip flops on! 75

DRESSED TO IMPRESS

I’m looking for a boho-style dress to wow my guests, what would you suggest? The boho style has now started to be incorporated into classic ballgown dresses. This is a great departure from the shape of the whimsical and natural flow of the bohemian-style gowns, which doesn’t suit every bride – especially if you’re relatively slim/petite or curvy with a fuller figure. The new take on the style features full shaping and long floaty sleeves. It can still be sexy in a classic way with cut out backs or low fronts, so you do get everything in one gown! Our head stylist Jo loves this look and styles it brilliantly on many different customers. An excellent option for brides wanting to switch their looks around for the reception is adding detachable sleeves and a sparkly underskirt. I’m looking for jewellery for my wedding day, what items are currently on trend? This season features great styles of jewellery; here are a few items that are currently popular. Pearl drop earrings that dangle just above the shoulder are perfect for an elegant style and silver or rose gold metals enhance the timeless pearls perfectly. Many brides opt for mismatch looks with different earrings in each ear but with similar designs, and necklaces that include different materials such as half pearls and half crystals or half chain. Lariat and layered-style jewellery are both trending; each can feature different colours or textures to give an elegant and classy look. Adding colour is very popular and can match the colour scheme and style of wedding. Always remember to choose your jewellery around your outfit and not the other way around. For a heavily embellished dress wear simple jewellery, and for a plain dress add plenty of bling. This could be a tennis necklace with a matching bracelet and earrings or a crystal headband. Hair accessories are a great way to enhance your hairstyle; there are plenty of different styles out there from hair vines and tiaras to just a fancy headband. If you know what you want but can’t find it, try handmade bespoke pieces. Amanda O’Brien Angel Whispers Tiaras and More www.facebook.com/Angelwhisperstiaras

EXPERT ADVICE

HOT TOPIC Top advice for the perfect wedding

MOMENTS THAT MATTER

www.rebeccasearlephotography.co.uk

What should I take into consideration before booking my photographer? Every photographer has a different way of working, some have a documentary style while others have a more natural approach and will not undertake any staged situations. Sit down as a couple with the supplier and discuss what you both want from the day in person or via Zoom – this allows the photographer to understand what you’re looking for. Decide where the photographer should be on the morning of the wedding. If there’s only one photographer, capturing getting ready shots can be difficult if you also want photos of the groom and guests arriving at the venue. Supply the company with a timeline of events and organised family/group shots to ensure nothing else planned gets delayed. Many couples don’t think about what happens if the photographer is ill or can’t make the day. Illness can happen at any time, and here at Captcha Photography we have multiple photographers in our team and wedding insurance to cover any unforeseen circumstance. Many photographers offer deals and packages to couples which include a limited number of images; it’s essential to ask who will make the decision on which ones are picked to work on. Also, if digital images are supplied, always confirm what quality/resolution these will be. Hayley Masom | Captcha Photography Ltd www.captcha.co.uk

SAY YES TO THE DRESS

I’m having a boho-style wedding and I’m looking to add the final touches to my look. What would you suggest? When it comes to adding boho-style touches to your bridal look, there are many different takes on the style to work with. But the boho roots are bonded with free, romantic souls who fell in love with nature and are into vintage ideas. For a modern hippie-chic style, I suggest a botanicalinspired hairvine, hairpins or eye-catching earrings depending on your personal preference. Another option is focusing on nature by incorporating flowers and leaves into the look. Or why not opt for undefined, geometrical and minimal-style patterns? Some brides are brave and chose a boho-luxe theme and add semi-precious stones, beads and gold to make a statement look. You can even create an eclectic mix of everything above, but the most crucial factor is wearing accessories you’re comfortable in. FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD What advice can you share with us when it comes to picking dishes for our wedding breakfast? While it would be so easy to choose your ideal meal or guilty pleasure for your wedding breakfast, it’s probably a better option to go for crowdpleasing dishes that will be accessible to the majority of your guests. At Gourmet Pop Up, we specialise in creating bespoke wedding menus that are as individual as you are. Our most popular options at the moment are sharing boards where you choose a variety of different meat/fish or vegetarian options served on wooden boards for your guests to devour along with a selection of carefully selected accompaniments. CAPTURING MEMORIES

I want to remember my wedding for years to come, why is a videographer the perfect option for this? Booking a videographer is an excellent idea at your wedding as video captures sound, atmosphere and energy. Wedding videos are no longer the poorly edited and shaky footage seen on You’ve Been Framed! Like those used by us at BIG DAY Movies, professional movie cameras can capture the day in crisp 4k footage just as good as any Hollywood scene. What’s more, high-end drones can capture any event from angles and heights otherwise unseen – turning your special day into your new favourite movie is a no-brainer! LOOK YOUR BEST

I’m looking for an eyeshadow look to make my blue eyes pop, what would you suggest? To achieve a showstopping eye look on your special day, opt for warm orange tones in the eye crease and a soft muted brown on the outer corner. Use a light eye pigment in copper or bronze on the lid and choose either a brown liquid or pencil liner to create a natural make-up look. If you’re after a more dramatic eye, add false lashes. Blame it on the boogie Your A-Z guide to wedding entertainment

A B C E D A IS FOR ACOUSTIC Nothing creates a romantic atmosphere quite like the sounds of an acoustic musician. Cellist, piano, you name it, music unplugged is the way to go from ceremony, to drinks reception and wedding breakfast. We suggest cellist, Bethany Morris. Check out www.bethanymorrismusic.com

D IS FOR DJ We recommend meeting with your DJ prior to the big day, whether that be face to face or virtually. They’ll need to understand your musical tastes and your guest list to get a feel for the floor fillers needed. Why not send out a request form with your RSVPs to guarantee popular playlist?

B IS FOR BAND Bring the elation and exuberance of a gig to your celebrations with a live band. Many will even go to the extra trouble of learning your song especially for your first dance. Dancefloor full, guaranteed.

F

C IS FOR CASINO Fear not, your guests aren’t in danger of gambling away their life savings! These games, including roulette, blackjack and more, are purely for fun.

E IS FOR EXTRAS Whether it be a basket of blankets so guests can chill out and chat in your venue’s gardens when the sun goes down, or a box of flip flops to soothe those dancing feet, your loved ones will appreciate any added extras to keep them comfortable.

F IS FOR FIREWORKS What could be more memorable that ending the day with a bang? A sure-fire way to wow your guests and a further opportunity for spectacular photos. We suggest Celestial Firework Displays. Check out www.celestialdisplays.co.uk

Q

Q IS FOR QUIZ Pop an icebreaker quiz on the tables to get guests talking over dinner, or host a Mr & Mrs gameshow extravaganza on the dancefloor before the revelries begin in earnest.

V IS FOR VOCALIST Employ the soothing tones of a solo vocalist to bring that special something to your ceremony as you walk down the aisle or sign the register. They can also add an air of sophistication to your drinks reception. W IS FOR WAITERS For the ultimate surprise singing waiters are often hilarious, brilliantly entertaining, and will, without doubt, provide a talking point far beyond the day itself.

Y IS FOR YAKETY-YAK If your guestlist is filled with folk who haven’t seen each other for donkey’s years, sometimes less is more. They’ll love time to catch up, so consider periods of downtime or chill out zones away from all the action.

Z Z IS FOR ZZZ Time for bed, but no need to let the evening fizzle out. Be sent off in style with a sparkler guard of honour as you bid farewell.

9 Hole Event Hire first started back in 2017 after the owners, Hannah and Richard French, tied the knot and wanted to help bring joy to other weddings. The business offers an experience that will wow guests and keep them smiling all day whilst creating lasting memories. The nine-hole obstacle golf course includes the 4ft tall castle, a windmill with turning sails and 10ft long ‘Tunnel of Love’ will keep everyone on their toes, laughing and joking around. Rubber-headed putters in different sizes mean the smallest to tallest guests can all join in together and scorecards and mini pencils allow for friendly banter and competition. The quality of the course makes the company standout as well as the friendly staff who aim to bring a smile to the faces of all clients and their guests. Hannah says, “We’re passionate about our minigolf, it’s our speciality and we work very hard to bring you and your guests an experience above and beyond your expectations. Getting to see the joy and excitement on people’s faces when they play is a real highlight of the job; seeing people react like that to what we do is the best thing in the world.” Check out: www.9holeeventhire.com

HOLE IN ONE!

A SPLASH OF FUN Aqua Rhythm started trading back in 2018 after the owner, Matthew Kazantzis, visited the Fountains of Bellagio in Las Vegas and decided to create a fountain hire company after being left disappointed with his own evening wedding photos. He says, “Our wedding venue had an amazing lake view in the day, but we were left with what looked like a massive black void at night with no fountains or lights.” The company offers a memorable sensory experience by bringing fountains to any venue in a 11m x 5m pool. Once set up, couples can sit back and watch the fountains dance to choreographed set pieces of music or take control of the fountains using interactive hand controls to make the water dance to their movement. The family-run business also provides a touchpad for couples to pick the perfect colour for the water to match any wedding theme. Matthew adds, “Seeing the joy on people’s faces when watching the water dance to the music and the excitement and surprise when they realise that they can make the water dance to their movements is a highlight of my job.” Check out: www.aquarhythm.co

DEREK MCALLISTER PHOTOGRAPHY Nottingham based, award winning, wedding photographer and artist. I provide professional, timeless imagery which tells the story of your day and captures memories that you can treasure for a lifetime. My name’s Derek, and I love to tell stories. Weddings are amazing, they’re a fusion of artistry and emotion; of love and happiness. Of smiles and tears (of joy) all bundled into a single crazy day. I’ve been privileged enough to be at many weddings and the best part, for me, is being able to capture all those moments which are over in a flash, but when put together make the most amazing tale which you can treasure forever. You’re in safe hands when you commission me to capture your amazing day. I’m always honoured and delighted when anyone chooses me to be part of one of the biggest days of their life and it’s a responsibility that I do not take for granted.
