Any discussion regarding an upward journey through class status to financial independence is going to touch on class conflict. It seems likes any diverse local, national, or business community has different classes. Some are more obvious than others. But when does class conflict begin? Class Conflict
Class conflict is also referred to as class struggle or class warfare sometimes. It is essentially the tension and /or antagonism that is in society as a result of socio-economic agendas and/or interests that are in competition with each other. Most larger societies in history have had more aristocratic elements and, as a result, some degree of class conflict. So Then, What are the Causes of Class Conflict? If every society has aristocratic elements and commons elements, then does every society have class conflict? The answer, I believe, is to some degree. So what are some of the causes of class struggle? Here are a couple of causes:
¡0 Those in the “ruling class" do not understand the difference between an individual's intrinsic worth and practical worth. First of all, when I mean ruling class in modern context, I'm referring to business managers, politicians, and others who are responsible for making decisions involving people below them. These people at the top often view those below as lacking motivation and, as a result, lacking practical worth and easily
replaceable. In simple terms, intrinsic worth refers to each individual's unique combination of gifts, talents, experiences, personality, etc. that can lead to a unique contribution to others.
·1 Those in the “ruling class" many times do not understand the difference between
dictatorship and leadership. A true leader has others follow them because they want to and respect their leadership abilities. A dictator uses the threat of punishment or other negative consequences to coerce others to do as they say.
·2 Many times the workers do lack motivation. A lot of the higher level positions in the
modern business world DO take more motivation and personal skill development. And for many people it’s just easier to keep doing what they are doing or change jobs with a similar level of responsibility.
·3 Those in the “ruling class" at times lack clear ethics and an understanding of personal boundaries. Recently, I ran into two separate situations where management put the workers into situations where there were safety and health concerns involved. Clear ethics draws a “line in the sand" that needs to not be crossed for the welfare of all. Understanding healthy boundaries involves respecting your own and other's individuality and value. Some Observations on Upward Mobility
I'm sure there are many other observations that could be made, but here are a few of my own observations:
·4 There is a lot of practical value in started at the bottom. Many corporations today hire managers who have no experience with the kind of work that the common workers do below them. Not only does this lead to class conflict, but there are some practical lessons that can be learned from mundane work.
·5 As you move up in position, the amount of knowledge and skill acquisition usually increases.
·6 Along with the former, expectations and responsibilities increase. ·7 Something else to keep in mind is that more responsibility also can lead to more
opportunity for interpersonal conflict. Not only are there more areas to have conflict in, but there may be also more areas of ambiguity as well that can lead to conflict.
·8 When it comes to growing into financial independence, there are fast and slow methods to get there. Whether we are aware of it or not, we have all heard of or seen people who have used the fast and slow methods to gain wealth. Founders of organizations like Facebook, Instagram, etc. took the shortcut to wealth. Individuals who “climbed the corporate ladder" and then started their own business, took the slow route. My Personal Journey Part of my personal journey toward financial independence has been working on building two businesses to move me forward. Since almost every society has some degree of class conflict, it makes sense to find either the fast or slow path to financial independence. Your Takeaway So where are you on your upward journey through class status to financial independence and what are some goals you set to move forward ?
