Goals, Individuality, and Outcomes

Page 1

This brief article on goals, individuality, and outcomes is meant to help readers understand that the process of reaching goals is not always a “straight line," but requires patience and perseverance. First, here are some beginning concepts. Dreams and Goals Someone once said that a goal without a dream is a drudgery and a dream without a goal is a fantasy. Both are important and have their place.

Balancing Our Lives and Juggling Priorities All of us have various roles in our lives that require various responsibilities. This can require juggling priorities sometimes in order to fulfill our responsibilities. A degree of flexibility is required daily as well as being able to keep focused on our dreams and goals on a long-term basis.

Individual Uniqueness Every person is also a unique individual in multiple ways. We all have a unique set of experiences, talents, gifts, etc. to draw from to fulfill our dreams. Our approach in fulfilling our dreams and goals can potentially be different from someone else's. Situational Context Each person has to work within the confines of their current situation before moving forward to reach their goals. This and everyone's uniqueness are very sound reasons why basing our own personal worth on our achievements is both foolish and futile. Outcomes and Self-esteem Part of having a healthy self-esteem is being able to see our personal worth apart from performance and achievement. This will be very evident in how we respond to outcomes when we work toward reaching our goals and come up short.

Self-Esteem and Self-Confidence Genuine and lasting self-confidence is built on healthy self-esteem. Being able to accept outcomes is just as necessary as the confidence to reset goals and persevere. Summing It Up We need to have both dreams and goals, balance our lives while daily juggling priorities, taking into account our own uniqueness as individuals and our immediate situational context. When we come short on our goals, we need to be okay with giving our best and missing the goal. Selfesteem will lead us to have self-confidence and reset our goals and persevere. Your Application So how well do you handle setting goals, your individuality, and reacting to outcomes?
