The path of peace, productivity, and prosperity

The Composition of Our Lives

The universe and our lives are composed of many contrasting elements, factors, or forces. Examples of this are light and darkness, hot and cold, masculine and feminine to name only a few. There are degrees and/or graduations of these contrasting elements in our lives.

The Swinging Pendulum

We all experience and feel variations of these elements in our lives. For example, many of us know when we have too much time in solitude and desire to socialize. Or we have had a lot of social time and just need some solitude to gather our thoughts. Our bodies tell us if we have had too much sleep or too much of any one food in our diet. Or not enough for that matter. In the physical world when we pull the pendulum 20 degrees to the right, it will swing 20 degrees to the left until it comes back to center. The same is true in our personal lives. If we end up overworking, for example, we will need more time to rest in order to get back to that normal balance

So many things in our lives have contrasting elements which means they also have their "balance point." The

closer we are to these balance points in our lives, the more harmony, peace, productivity, and prosperity we will see. When we live our lives on the extreme edges of these balance points, we waste energy on unproductive activities and end up burning ourselves out because these extremes cannot be maintained. In the natural world how long can a pendulum remain far left or right from center until it gets pulled back to the middle? A great example of loss of productivity in the area of fitness is weight training. Whenever you overtrain with weights, your weight lifted, sets, or reps go down. Many trainers recommend taking 3 days off from the gym at this point in order for your muscles to rebuild themselves

through good diet and rest. ¡1

Things are always changing in our lives and we need to develop a sensitivity to those changes so we have an idea of when to change and how to bring ourselves back into equilibrium. Balance points in our lives are never static but always fluctuating. When we feel that fluctuation in any area of our lives we can readjust at the right time.

Our lives also go through seasons where we are focusing on one or more main goals or areas of growth and development. In this context, we seek the balance of all other areas to our best ability. For example, some of us go to college, trade school, or university for a season to focus on preparation for a career. Although we have a seasonal emphasis on preparation, we also try to keep our social lives and times of rest in balance as well. Time to Contemplate...

Are you living your life in the center to the best of your ability or are you stuck on the outer extremes? Do have too much

solitude, social life, or just enough? Do you work too much, not have enough work, or just enough? Do you get enough rest, too much, or just right? Do you devote enough time to passions and purpose in your life, not enough, or just right? Do you commit time to menial tasks like personal hygiene and health, house cleaning, paying bills, or do you neglect this area of your life? What other areas of your life do you need to seek balance in order to be on the path of peace, productivity, and prosperity? This article was written by an SFM affiliate.
