In this brief article we are going to look at uses and nonuse for the black and white, grey, and colored filters in our lives. What's most important to know is the best use for each filter and how it can be overused or underused. Reviewing Uses and Explaining Overuse and Underuse The black and white filter
·0 Best Use- This filter helps us break down seemingly complex and confusing situations by asking ourselves the important question, “What is the right thing to do here?”
·1 Overusing- Overusing this filter results in unnecessary rules or abundance of
rules that “grown up adults" really don't need. Unnecessary rules created for "grown ups" appeal to human laziness of thought as well as an easy way to gain social approval from a specific group of people we are connected to in some way.
·2 Underuse- Less rules or guidelines can appeal to people who are not mature and don't realize how their actions affect others around them. Not having or using guidelines where needed can also appeal to someone who is ignoring their conscience and justifying certain destructive actions.
The Grey Filter
·3 Best Use- For those who are starting a new path to humility, grey is a good reminder that we are not always right about all our perceptions.
·4 Overusing- Justifying actions that our conscience is telling us is wrong. ·5 Underusing- oversimplifying a multifaceted situation to avoid a lot of thought and gain social approval.
The Colored Filter
·6 Best Use-Recognizing and understanding diversity of people, cultures, nature, etc. ·7 Overusing- We can overuse this filter to justify destructive cultural beliefs or institutions in order to avoid confrontation. One “hot and relevant example" are racist beliefs and the institution of slavery.
·8 Underusing- Pride, ego, self-righteousness are responses that cause us to think our way of thinking, living, or being is superior to someone or something else before understanding why they are doing what they are doing. In Summation All 3 of these filters can be used responsibly, overused, or underused. The key is to understand the best use of each and avoid misuse of them. Your Takeaway Do you understand the uses and nonuses of the black and white, grey, and colored filters in our lives? If not, where, when, and how can you make positive changes in your use of these filters?
