CHILL January 2018, June 2018

Chill is Climate Control Middle East’s traditional answer to a strong demand for an in-depth and focused look at the District Cooling industry in the Middle East. Published semi-annually as a pull-out supplement of the magazine, since June 2007, Chill contains analyses, technical papers, case studies and guest columns on District Cooling. The primary objective is to present solutions and strategies that can be adopted to surmount challenges in the District Cooling industry. The solutions are recent and include those that would have emerged from contextual discussions and deliberations during focused District Cooling conferences from around the region and from elsewhere.

Refrigeration Middle East

he Consultant Contractor Conference (2017) was very well organised and well attended. The set-up was brilliant and excellent. Hopefully, it’s going to drive a clear message to the market, and hopefully, we can come up with some outcomes that people can take back to their companies and to their team, as well, and make sure we have the right focus on what we’re trying to achieve.

April 2018 After over a decade of covering refrigeration-related issues in Climate Control Middle East magazine, CPI Industry is proud to announce the launch of Refrigeration Middle East, a comprehensive storehouse of the latest trends in the refrigeration industry, plus analyses, guest columns, interviews and end-user profiles relating to food, pharma, healthcare, to name just three. The purpose of the supplement is to present a detailed overview of the refrigeration industry in the GCC region, plus a roadmap of what the region’s stakeholders can expect in the coming years, owing to a surge in population, which has necessitated a need for a broader scope of business activity related to refrigeration.

Samer Daouad, Chief Development Officer and Managing Director (KSA), Drake & Scull

I

think The Consultant Contractor Conference (2017) as a get-together is the first of its kind. At the end of the last session, somebody stood up and said, “You know, we actually need to team together, especially the contractors, because a lot of the shift of risk is on the contractor and, ultimately, that lands on to the subcontractor and the supplier, and once that happens, they’re actually feeding the project.” So, I think it’s good in terms of getting everyone together, everyone reading from the same book, understanding that there are multiple challenges, trying to avoid going to arbitration and resolution. The best thing for arbitration and resolution is to not have any.

VAR-sity reports on the goings-on in the world of the Variable Refrigerant Flow industry. The supplement includes reports and analyses, product profiles, case studies, and interviews and guest columns involving the different stakeholders, be they manufacturers of the technology, policymakers, regulators, testing and certification bodies or end-users. The supplement is an ideal Q3 follow-up to the Q1 mega-event, the Annual Middle East Variable Refrigerant Flow Conference, produced by CPI Industry.

First published in 2010, the supplement was pathbreaking in its presentation of news, analyses and reports on a fledgling retrofit industry in the region. Today, with ‘retrofit’ in popular currency, the supplement is attracting substantial interest for the unique historical perspective it is able to offer and for its tracking of current efforts through interviews with high-profile stakeholders, case-studies, features, reports and analyses. The issues include retrofit finance, the availability of specific technology, the rental market and installation-related challenges and innovations.

State of the Industry Report: Building Performance Special Feature: BMS, RMS Interview: UAE Ministry of Climate Change & Environment Country Report:

Climate Control Guide & Directory (CCG&D) November 2017 Into its eleventh year, this standalone annual book is a ready-reckoner that lists all the players connected to the HVACR industry. The book, in Super-A5 format, is a comprehensive directory of manufacturers, resellers, agents and service providers, so that readers across the Middle East are able to find products in their territory. The book – primarily consisting of product-wise and company-wise listings – offers vendors targeted distribution to customers they need to reach, unlike the usual crowded directory in a general-industry magazine. Today, thousands of consultants, contractors and buyers of HVACR products (including representatives of master developers and developers), in general, consider CCG&D as the most-focused HVACR reference book for the Middle East region.

Published every November, the book enjoys immediate exposure, thanks to The Big 5 Show, Dubai (www.thebig5.ae), held in the same month. Further, it is distributed at all major HVACR- and construction-industry events in the Middle East and elsewhere, including AHR EXPO, The Big 5 Saudi, HVACR Expo Saudi, Middle East Electricity, WETEX, Project Qatar, IDEA’s Annual Conference & Trade Show, ISH, Mostra Convegno, Chillventa. In addition, it is extensively distributed through CPI Industry’s very own bouquet of marquee conferences and events. In short, it enjoys a year-long shelf-life.

The 3rd Annual Middle East Variable Refrigerants Flow Conference, held on March 30 and 31 at the Habtoor Grand Beach Resort, Dubai, served as a platform for end-users, consultants and manufacturers to discuss issues plaguing the VRF industry. Lack of operational data for VRF systems and a call for the harmonisation of regulations were the two topics that secured major time and attention amongst the stakeholders. The niggling issue surrounding indoor air quality, in particular, is the debate on the number of fresh air changes that would make a difference in keeping carbon dioxide levels not merely within permissible limits in the built-environment but so low as to promote good health and wellbeing. The barrier to increasing the fresh air changes has been the concern over energy efficiency, which has implications in terms of indirect emissions and also an increase in costs for the building owner. In that context, can clean forms of renewable energy, as being promoted by the UAE and Saudi Arabia, among others, help usher in a paradigm shift? This, at once, is the premise for discussion at the 5th edition of the World IEQ Forum.

www.worldieqforum.com

6th Annual Middle East Variable Refrigerant Flow Conference The inroads of the technology in the Kingdom 17 September 2018 Riyadh, Saudi Arabia With increasing attention being given to reduce power consumption, as enshrined in the Saudi Vision 2030 (National Transformation Programme), talks on energy-related regulations have intensified like never before. Bodies like SASO and GSO are deeply involved in bringing about positive change in reducing power consumption. These developments sit well with the VRF industry, which according to manufacturers and suppliers of the technology, has proven itself across multiple building profiles in the GCC region, including in high-rise buildings. With inverter-based technology, among other innovative features, plus the traditional flexibility they offer, VRFs are the system of choice in several projects. In that context, the conference, one of the most eagerly awaited events of the year, will focus on the inroads VRF technology has made in the Kingdom, in particular.

The Consultant Contractor Conference (2nd edition) Strengthening the foundations for better building performance 15-16 October 2018 | Dubai, UAE The conference will be the most comprehensive ever and will feature the largest gathering of general and MEP consultants, contractors, master developers, developers and manufacturers in the GCC region with an agenda to discuss issues that are preventing and, at times, perhaps even impairing them from delivering optimal solutions. The conference comes at a critical time. With mega events looming in the horizon, and an urgent need for the building industry to align itself with environmental and socio-economic goals, such as the UAE Strategic Vision 2021, there is no disputing the fact that best practices in consultancy and contracting services represent two important pillars that hold up such ideals as energy efficiency, reliability and IEQ. In view of this, the Conference will hear the consultants and contractors speak on their concerns and explore the pathway to an enabling environment for them to sustain their businesses and to offer the best-in-class solutions.

Climate Control Awards (8th edition) 27 November 2018 | Dubai, UAE Widely called the Oscars of the HVACR industry, the objective of the blacktie, gala dinner event is to recognise merit across the various disciplines of the HVACR industry and to raise the bar on building performance, cold chain and fire safety, to name three. To achieve the objective, CPI Industry enlists the services of seasoned HVACR professionals as judges and of a thirdparty certification agency to evaluate companies under several categories. Into its eighth year, the Awards exercise serves as an objective and accurate barometer of the industry.

he magazine provides great insights into interesting topics, pressing issues and new technologies. It is an excellent platform for the HVAC community to communicate challenges, solutions and best practices. The magazine’s increasing focus on sustainability and the preservation of energy and water is an essential component of its success. It has been a great space to share my thoughts as an HVAC professional as well as a representative of the ASHRAE and CIBSE local chapters. The magazine and its efforts to bring together the HVAC community via various equally successful and essential conferences and events are what make Climate Control Middle East stand out. Congratulations to the Editor and the team for an exceptional editorial profile in the Middle East. I look forward to continue being a part of the success of such a platform.
