Gigamon demos security delivery platform
Trevor Dearing, Gigamon
Gigamon is showcasing its security delivery platform and Visibility Fabric at GITEX, which provide “pervasive” visibility of network traffic, users and applications and to multiple
security devices “without impacting network performance.” “Many organisations now want to have visibility on the network traffic,” said Trevor Dearing, EMEA marketing director, Gigamon. “Security devices such as firewalls, IPS and SIEM don’t want to see the same traffic. We make sure that those devices get the piece of traffic they need to work efficiently,”. Dearing says Gigamon understands the importance of critical data and have solutions available today – from standalone
visibility in a box to offerings which extend visibility into cloud and virtual environments. According to Dearing, given the complexity of today’s infrastructure, it is important to provide visibility into physical, virtual, remote sites as well as emerging SDN/NFV infrastructure as a single unified fabric with a common management and policy model, rather than as a set of disjointed nodes. “Being network-agnostic, we can also clamp onto any 4 CONTINUED ON PAGE 3

Gigamon has recently developed a capability to deeply analyse SSL/TLS traffic. SSL/TLS is the cornerstone of Web security, encrypting data between a client and a server. On the subject of GITEX, Dearing said it is important for companies like Gigamon, as it allows them to meet with key decision-makers
and provide them with market intelligence. “We are excited about the opportunities the show will bring for us. The event has been and continues to be a great platform for us to meet and engage with our current and potential customers, distributors and partners. The show is highly
relevant in bringing together the key decision-makers in the region in an environment where we can share our mutual business plans and strategies.” Gigamon is exhibiting along with its distributor, Redington in Hall 3 Stand C3 – 1. Juniper: open networking rising in UAE
Samer Kudsi, Juniper Networks
Juniper Networks has used GITEX as a platform to announce new market research which suggests that IT leaders in the UAE and the rest of the Europe, Middle East and Africa region understand the increasing pressure that networks are under to enable digital transformation, and that they see the adoption of open networking as the answer to the challenges this creates. It further indicates that they believe CIOs have an opportunity to ‘champion’ open networking as the response to C-level leadership demands for IT to deliver business transformation and commercial success. Juniper commissioned the research to explore the attitudes of senior network professionals across EMEA towards open networking adoption and its potential to drive business value. The research also underlines senior U.A.E. IT leaders’ concerns
about adopting open networking, despite the advantages they believe it brings. These concerns centre around effective security measures in an open environment and the challenges around successfully integrating legacy architecture and support models. “The advance of megatrends, such as cloud, IoT, big data and mobile workforces, mean the network can no longer be judged by capacity and performance alone, nor dismissed as ‘just plumbing,’” said Samer Kudsi, enterprise sales director MENA, Juniper Networks. “Instead, infrastructure capable of delivering real business advantage must be put in place by organisations if they are to survive the digital disruption that otherwise lies behind the trends. Juniper believes that intelligent open networking – including softwaredefined security, automation, collaborative innovation and true interoperability – is IT’s strategic answer to business demands for transformation and longterm success, and this research suggests IT leaders across EMEA concur.” 70 percent of respondents in the U.A.E. clearly identify with the situation where business needs are placing evolving demands on its network and creating new challenges for the IT function. 86 percent declared their organisation to be reliant on

More than half of the U.A.E. respondents (55 percent) stated that their network is now measured on its effectiveness and ability to respond to a range of business needs, rather than merely its capacity and performance. IT leaders in the U.A.E. noted that their strategic goals for their network infrastructure over the next 12 to 24 months were to reduce expenditure (65 percent), improve information security (61 percent), and support workforce mobility (59 percent). 36 percent of IT leaders in the U.A.E. believe that the CIO is ideally positioned to champion open networking to the business; furthermore, one in every four IT leaders admitted that their organisation has no centralised strategy for open networking. There was resounding enthusiasm for open networking in the U.A.E., with 84 percent of

respondents expressing support for such initiatives. Even among those not currently supportive, 91 percent stated their organisations are likely to become positive towards open networking in the next 36 months. 65 percent also believed that open networking represents a more flexible approach to IT that will benefit their business goals. 65 percent nominated security and compliance concerns as their biggest barrier to open networking adoption, with 42 percent citing the challenges of legacy integration as another significant barrier, and 42 percent noting that lack of effective support models is holding them back. 60 percent cited maturation of the technology as a factor in risk reduction, 56 percent believed increased training for senior IT staff around SDN/ NFV can help reduce perceived security risks, and 50 percent believed working with a trusted technology partner is a significant success factor.

CloudHost unveils UAE’s ‘first’ user-based cloud solution
Nikhil Katara. CloudHost
CloudHost has announced the launch of the country’s “first user-based” cloud platform, which allows users to pay a flat fee for various cloud solutions.
The structure allows its customers to move away from “CapEx to OpEx” model, taking the service offering to the next level, according to
Nikhil Katara, Co-Founder & Director Operations. Katara said that the advantage of its various offerings on a per user-based subscription model allows clients to keep the cloud deployment cost under control. “We have a clear vision of providing enterprise technology as a utility,” he said. “Typically, the numerous technology components are provided separately, with separate costs for each by most cloud providers in the market, which we believe is not ‘the real cloud.’”
CloudHost also provides consulting services for migrating and managing cloud applications, and infrastructure across public, private and hybrid cloud. CloudHost has relationships with ISVs providing enterprise applications like Microsoft Dynamics, Sage, Focus, among others. The company is working closely with Redington Value as its distributor. “Our concept of user-based flat fees across the entire technology stack including infrastructure, collaboration, backup and DR, managed services and business applications is an ideal way for companies to keep the technology costs under control,” Katara added.

CommScope flaunts fiber offerings
Ehab Kanary, CommScope
CommScope is demonstrating its latest fiber optic offerings at GITEX. CommScope’s automated infrastructure management system “knows exactly” what is
connected, how it is connected and where it is located, according to the company. The integrated hardware and software platform manages the entire physical layer. CommScope will also share latest developments in fiber closures, terminals with hardened connectivity and a new range of specialty cables. The company’s Powered Fiber Cable System, meanwhile, simultaneously powers and communicates with small cells, wi-fi hotspots, HD cameras and other network access devices.
“We’ve entered a new industrial revolution: one that is dramatically changing all facets of our lives. The combination of fiber and wireless technology will meet the needs for today’s and tomorrow’s expanding bandwidth demands,” said Ehab Kanary, vice president of Enterprise, Middle East and Africa. “The new CommScope is better positioned to solve more wired and wireless network challenges through a convergence of network technology. “A key challenge for customers is keeping information and communications technology (ICT)
infrastructure up to date to support growth and changing business and regulatory requirements. Increasingly, customers expect extended life with low maintenance costs. As a result, fiber optic cabling must allow for fast, simple changes while maintaining bend radius. FiberGuide has revolutionised the protection and routing of fiber in data centres, central offices and mobile switching centres.” Wideband multimode fiber (WBMMF), meanwhile, delivers “four times” more information with the same number of fiber strands over practical distance.
