Elon Musk might be getting giddy but what does Donald Trump reclaiming the presidency in 2025 mean for the global construction machinery industry? His previous stint at the Oval Office was characterised by an “America First” agenda, marked by aggressive tariffs and a focus on domestic manufacturing. Already we are seeing a reprise of these policies, and there will be opportunities and challenges for the sector if it can find the right plan ‘T’.
In his first term, high tariffs on imported raw materials initially benefited US-based producers by encouraging domestic sourcing but also raised production costs across the board. For international machinery manufacturers, particularly those based in Europe and Asia, the tariffs created significant barriers to entering the lucrative US market. And here we are again entering another period of uncertainty for global supply chains.
Trump v1,0 meant higher material costs which in turn led to increased machinery prices globally, with the Middle East being no exception. As a region heavily reliant on imported vehicles and machinery, particularly from Europe and Asia, Middle Eastern contractors and rental companies faced higher procurement costs during Trump’s first presidency. A similar scenario could be unfolding again, with local companies potentially seeking alternative suppliers or delaying fleet investment to manage budgets. This could hinder ongoing infrastructure growth in countries like Saudi Arabia and the UAE, which are currently in the midst of ambitious development plans.
On the flip side, Trump’s $1tn infrastructure investment plan could offer a silver lining. Rebuilding and modernising US infrastructure (or Greenland’s?!) could drive
demand domestically, as well as potentially offset some of the global price hikes. Then again, a private sector spooked by disruption in global markets won’t be willing to pay for it all, as Trump has promised.
Publicly the US President claimed he wanted to slap high tariffs on Chinese imports even before he took office. At the time, insiders suggested he would prefer to cut a deal, and that could still be how this high stakes game plays out. You don’t have need Whatsapp or WeChat to get the message that the tariffs to hurt leaders from Bogota to Berlin are meant to tempt the leadership in Beijing to strike a bargain. The 10% tariffs touted for Chinese exports seems comparitively generous, even. In any case, the entire trade and pricing of capital assets like equipment and vehicles will be affected, even here. And regionally, we should be cautious about the rise in oil prices the tariffs are likely to generate in the shortterm. Protectionist policies increase global prices, challenge supply chains, and slow long-term growth — particularly in regions like the Middle East that depend on imports. It would be common sense to brace for both volatility and opportunity: strengthen partnerships and finance plans, as well as diversify supply chains – the diet coke red button isn’t even fully re-installed into the Oval Office yet.

In addition, our team spirit is the backbone of our success. The camaraderie, mutual support, and shared goals have forged a bond that goes beyond professional relationships. We work cohesively, tackle challenges headon, and celebrate victories as one united front. This sense of unity and teamwork has not only made our work environment enjoyable but has also driven us to achieve remarkable milestones together.

Predictive maintenance, powered by these technologies, has been another game-changer for the company. By identifying potential problems before they arise, eXpertise ensures that its equipment remains operational and ready for deployment. Sheik also highlighted the importance of the company’s regional hubs, which are strategically located across Saudi Arabia to provide fast, reliable support to project sites.
As Saudi Arabia embraces sustainability as part of Vision 2030, eXpertise is aligning its operations with the Kingdom’s environmental goals.
Ayaz noted that the company has prioritised investments in equipment with lower emissions and greater fuel efficiency, recognising that sustainability is no longer optional in today’s construction landscape. “Sustainability is an integral part of how we operate, and we are committed to adopting practices that reduce our environmental impact,” Ayaz said.
The rapid pace of growth in Saudi Arabia presents both opportunities and challenges for eXpertise. Sheik pointed out that while the demand for equipment and manpower is unprecedented, maintaining quality and consistency in service delivery is critical for long-term success. “Scaling up is not the hard part—sustaining that growth
while maintaining our standards is the real challenge,” Sheik said. He explained that the company’s ability to adapt and innovate has been key to overcoming these challenges and positioning eXpertise as a leader in the market.
eXpertise’s contributions extend beyond the business realm, playing a vital role in Saudi Arabia’s economic and social transformation. Alshammari stressed that Vision 2030 is not just about building infrastructure but also about improving the quality of life for all Saudis. “eXpertise is proud to be part of this journey. We’re

contributing to projects that will leave a lasting legacy for the Kingdom and its people,” he said.
During the HEAT Show, Ayaz reflected on the unprecedented opportunities created by Saudi Vision 2030 and the giga-projects currently under development. “Saudi Vision 2030 means that the demand is there,” he said. “With the giga-projects in the market, we are focused on meeting this demand. And the demand is so great that there is enough for everyone.” The signing of the 120-crane deal with XCMG underscored this optimism, positioning eXpertise as a
key player in delivering equipment for Saudi Arabia’s transformative projects.
The HEAT Show concluded with a celebratory ceremony, reinforcing eXpertise’s reputation as a leader in the heavy equipment rental industry. With a focus on innovation, sustainability, and local empowerment, eXpertise is setting new benchmarks for excellence in the sector. “Our journey is just beginning,” Alshammari said in closing. “We look forward to continuing to support Saudi Arabia’s growth and being part of its success story for generations to come.”
One of the highlights of the HEAT Show was the announcement of a partnership between XCMG and eXpertise, the rapidly expanding equipment rental firm in the Middle East. The deal, which involved the supply of 120 cranes, was part of eXpertise’s ambitious $700 million plan to expand its fleet and cater to the burgeoning demand driven by the Kingdom’s mega-projects, including NEOM and The Red Sea Project.
Speaking about the deal, eXpertise’s spokesperson Mohammad Ayaz said, “Saudi Vision 2030 means the demand is there. With the giga-projects in the market, we are focused on meeting this demand. And the demand is so great that there is enough for everyone.” The agreement, signed on the HEAT Show’s main stage by K.S. As the company sets its sights on the growing Saudi market, its tailored solutions and dedication to quality promise to play a pivotal role in shaping contractor operations. With companies like NBE working within the market, the prospects of the Middle East’s heavy equipment industry looks brighter — and more efficient — than ever.
Executive Sales Specialist Luca Caresio offers a deeper insight into the company’s philosophy, achievements, and plans for growth in one of the world’s most dynamic regions.
Let’s start with the story of NBE. What inspired the company’s creation, and what sets it apart?
New Buckets Engineering was established in 2018 in Dubai with a simple yet powerful mission: to provide high-quality, locally available attachments that cater to the specific needs of customers in the region. We recognized early on that proximity to our clients would be crucial. By being based in Dubai, we’re able to offer local assistance and services, ensuring faster response times and a better understanding of on-ground challenges. What sets us apart is our dedication to quality and customisation. We don’t produce standard products in bulk; instead, we tailor every attachment to meet the unique requirements of our clients. Whether it’s the oilfield industry, where pipe diameters vary, or construction sites with specific soil conditions, our engineering team ensures every product is built for the job.
Can you tell us more about the industries and applications your products serve?
The scope of our work is incredibly wide. Our attachments serve industries ranging from construction and mining to steel mills, recycling, demolition, and agriculture. For excavators, we produce buckets of all sizes—from mini to mining— along with rippers, grapples, long-reach booms, and more. For loaders, we offer quick couplers, forks, material handling arms, and specialised attachments like steel mill buckets. We’ve also diversified into producing steel structures, such as skid frames, storage tanks, and pre-assembled pipe racks, which are increasingly in demand for onshore and offshore applications. This versatility allows us to meet the requirements of diverse industries, enhancing both efficiency and safety on the job site.
Your focus on customisation is remarkable. Could you elaborate on your process of tailoring products for clients?
At NBE, customisation is not just a service—it’s our philosophy. Every project starts with understanding the client’s specific needs. For example, in the oilfield industry, our buckets are designed to fit pipes of various diameters. In construction, the soil type might dictate the bucket’s configuration. We work closely with our customers to identify these variables, and our engineering team translates those needs into a final product. This close collaboration ensures that every attachment we deliver is not only functional but optimised for the conditions it will face.
How has the company evolved since its inception, and what milestones are you most proud of?
Since 2018, NBE has grown significantly. We started with a modest product range but have steadily expanded to cover nearly the full spectrum of attachments for excavators and loaders. Today, our portfolio includes everything from standard quick couplers to highly specialised lifting jibs and forks. One of the key milestones for us was developing our in-house engineering team, which has over 20 years of experience. Their expertise has been instrumental in our ability to innovate and meet the ever-changing demands of the market. I’m particularly proud of how we’ve maintained our commitment to quality and customer satisfaction as we’ve scaled up our operations.
Arabia, I’m amazed by the scale of transformation. It’s incredibly exciting to be part of this journey.
What message do you want to share with your audience about NBE?
NBE was established in 2018 in Dubai with a simple yet powerful mission: to provide high-quality, locally available attachments
The most important thing we want people to understand is that NBE is not just a supplier—it’s a partner. Our Dubai base ensures that we’re always nearby to provide support and services. Our engineering team works tirelessly to customise solutions, making sure every product is aligned with the customer’s specific needs. We focus on quality above all else. This isn’t about producing generic attachments in bulk; it’s about delivering tailored solutions that enhance the performance and reliability of heavy machinery.
Let’s talk about the Saudi market. How does it compare to the UAE?
The Saudi market is a game-changer. The scale and ambition of the projects here are unparalleled. While we started in the UAE, exhibitions like the Heat Show have given us an excellent platform to introduce our brand to Saudi Arabia. We’re already working on some projects in Saudi, but our goal is to expand significantly. The growth in construction, infrastructure, and industrial projects presents immense opportunities for us. Every time I visit Saudi
What can we expect from your development pipeline?
Innovation is a constant at NBE. While we don’t have a single new product launch to announce, our team develops new attachments almost every month. This ongoing effort keeps us ahead of the curve and ensures we’re always meeting the evolving needs of our customers. I want to take a moment to thank our team for their hard work—it’s their dedication that drives our success.
