MEAT LOAF NOT A DRY EYE IN THE HOUSE Gill Sherry

FEBRUARY 2022
Meat Loaf was a larger than life character who refused to be labelled as a superstar or an icon despite selling more than 100 million albums in a career spanning six decades.
Born Marvin Lee Aday, the American singer is one of the best-selling music artists of all time. His 1977 album Bat Out of Hell remained on the charts for over nine years and still sells around 200,000 copies annually. His death in January this year (of COVID-19 complications) came as a huge shock to the millions of fans who had followed his extraordinary singing and acting career. His journey to success began in 1968 when he performed his first gig with the band ‘Meat Loaf Soul’ as the warm-up act for Van Morrison’s better known band, ‘Them’. It was the first of many supporting acts which saw changes to both the band name and its members along the way. They received regional recognition under the name ‘Floating Circus’ before Meat Loaf joined the production of the musical Hair.
Other theatre performances included Rainbow, More Than You Deserve, As You Like It and The Rocky Horror Show, the latter leading to the part of Eddie in the movie, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Meat Loaf always insisted the musical was far superior to the movie. In the early seventies, he began to work on Bat Out of Hell, making the decision to concentrate exclusively on music. After countless rejections, the album was finally released by Cleveland International Records in 1977. Since then, it has spent over 522 weeks in the Top 200 of the UK chart.
Meat Loaf married Leslie Edmonds in 1979 and adopted her daughter, Pearl. The couple went on to have a further daughter, Amanda, in 1981. They divorced in 2001 but he remarried six years later. His wife, Deborah, and two daughters were all at his bedside when he died. He was quoted previously as saying: “If I die, I die, but I'm not going to be controlled”. An ironic statement made during the pandemic regarding his reluctance and refusal to wear a face mask. He was also outspoken when it came to climate
change, refusing to accept it existed and referring to climate activist, Greta Thunberg, as ‘brainwashed’. In addition, people were surprised to learn that in spite of his name, Meat Loaf was vegetarian, later declaring his intent to switch to veganism. Whatever your opinion of his views, beliefs and lifestyle, you cannot deny his talent or, indeed, his modesty. He was once quoted as saying: “…I am not a rock star… I don’t pretend to be a legend. I want to be just a normal human being.” Maybe that stemmed from his desire to be a footballer: “…my dream was never to be a rock and roll star. I wanted to play professional football. I never wanted to be a rock and roll star.” I, for one, am glad that he did. The album version of the single Bat Out of Hell at 9.52 minutes long, has to be one of the greatest tracks ever recorded. Second only, perhaps, to Queen’s sixminute Bohemian Rhapsody masterpiece.
His career was not without its troubles. He was forced to file for personal bankruptcy in 1983 as a result of poor money management and numerous lawsuits. He also suffered with various health issues (he was diagnosed with Wolff–Parkinson– White syndrome as well as having asthma) and required emergency back surgery necessitating the temporary use of a wheelchair. Weight had plagued the star since childhood (he weighed 240lbs in his early teens) and he blamed his size on his constant social anxiety. Regardless of his off-stage difficulties, his music was as brilliant as ever. He recorded twelve studio albums – the final of which was Braver Than We Are, released in 2016 – and performed a total of 30 tours. But although his music is often referred to as ‘heavy metal’ or ‘hard rock’ he had surprisingly broad appeal. The singles I’d Do Anything For Love, Two Outa Three Ain’t Bad and You Took The Words Right Out of My Mouth were considered ‘soft rock’ by many and are among his best-selling tracks. His wide appeal is further supported by the success of Bat Out of Hell: The Musical. It premiered in the UK in 2017 and went on to entertain audiences the world over, winning seven major awards including Best Musical at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards. Tickets are still available for the UK, US and Australia tour. But be warned, as Meat Loaf himself once sang, there’ll be not a dry eye in the house.

GARTNER PREDICTS 25% OF PEOPLE WILL SPEND AT LEAST ONE HOUR PER DAY IN THE METAVERSE BY 2026 METAVERSE HYPE TO TRANSITION INTO NEW BUSINESS MODELS THAT EXTEND DIGITAL BUSINESS
Marty Resnick By 2026, 25% of people will spend at least one hour a day in the metaverse for work, shopping, education, social and/ or entertainment, according to Gartner, Inc. “Vendors are already building ways for users to replicate their lives in digital worlds,” said Marty Resnick, research vice president at Gartner. “From attending virtual classrooms to buying digital land and constructing virtual homes, these activities are currently being conducted in separate environments. Eventually, they will take place in a single environment – the metaverse – with multiple destinations across technologies and experiences.”
Gartner defines a metaverse as a collective virtual shared space, created by the convergence of virtually enhanced physical and digital reality. It is persistent, providing enhanced immersive experiences, as well as device independent and accessible through any type of device, from tablets to head-mounted displays.
Because no single vendor will own the metaverse, Gartner expects it to have a virtual economy enabled by digital currencies and nonfungible tokens (NFTs). The metaverse will impact every business that consumers interact with every day.
It will also impact how work gets done. Enterprises will provide better engagement, collaboration and connection to their employees through immersive workspaces in virtual offices. Businesses will not need to create their own infrastructure to do so because the metaverse will provide the framework. In addition, virtual events that have gained popularity over the last 18 months will offer more collaborative and immersive networking opportunities and workshops. “Enterprises will have the ability to expand and enhance their business models in unprecedented ways by moving from a digital business to a metaverse business,” said Resnick. “By 2026, 30% of the organizations in the world will have products and services ready for metaverse.” The adoption of metaverse technologies is nascent and fragmented, and Gartner cautions organizations about investing heavily in a specific metaverse. “It is still too early to know which investments will be viable in the long term, but product managers should take the time to learn, explore and prepare for a metaverse in order to position themselves competitively,” said Resnick. www.cpmagazine.net

From highly 'grammable restaurants, to swanky suites and awe-inspiring shows, these Vegas experiences will all be a hit no matter what you're in town to celebrate. Las Vegas will always be an “it” spot in the U.S., well-known for its nightlife and casinos, but there is so much more the city has to offer that goes underlooked. Believe it or not, Vegas has some of the best restaurants in the country, some of the most memorable shows, and unique only-in-Vegas experiences that make for the perfect celebratory adventure, be it a birthday, bachelorette party, or dare we say…a quickie wedding! We’ve compiled a list full of places to sleep, to dine – everything you need to have an amazing celebratory weekend in Sin City during these (still) unprecedented times. A few things to keep in mind: Las Vegas has an indoor mask mandate, reservations are required for just about everything, and be sure to book as far in advance as possible. All hotels listed have a daily resort fee that is added to the base price of the room, and it pays to stay in a resort that has restaurants or shows you plan on attending. Weekdays are less expensive and less crowded, and pool parties and nightclubs are still packed with long wait times and up-close mingling. 14

Go Glam at Encore Resort
Rejuvenate at Venetian Canyon Ranch
Luxury, sophistication, and elegance are three words to describe the Encore Resort at Wynn Las Vegas. Connected to sister resort, Wynn Las Vegas, Encore is home to Encore Theater (where celebrities such as Beyonce have performed), Encore Beach Club, and XS Nightclub. Go for the amazing retail options like Chanel and Golden Goose and stay for the lavish dining experiences. The guest rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows, separate living, and sleeping areas (making them incredibly spacious), and include a plush sofa, work desk, and Amazon Alexa. A bonus is the bedside console, which gives guests control over lightning, cleaning, and privacy settings, as well as blackout shades. Included in your booking, guests will receive in-room WiFi for up to four devices, access to the fitness center for up to two people, access to resort pools and sundecks, and complimentary parking.
At Canyon Ranch Spa, inside The Venetian Resort, guests can choose from over 150 services in one of the world’s largest day spas. From ritual baths, body scrubs, facials, massages, body wraps, and treatments from the East, a relaxing experience can be had by any type of spa-goer. We recommend the 50-minute cocoon body wrap, an experience that begins with a gentle exfoliation followed by a soothing body treatment while closing your eyes in a cocoon envelopment bed. Spa guests also have access to nine experiential rooms: the crystal steam room, experiential rain room, Finnish sauna, herbal laconium room (a kind of dry sauna), hydro spa, igloo room, salt grotto (co-ed), the conservatory (co-ed), and the wave room (co-ed). Follow the spa’s recommended room sequence to maximize relaxation, energy, and stress relief. Access to the rooms is complimentary with certain services and day passes can be purchased without a booked service for hotel and nonhotel guests.
Enjoy Dinner and a Show at The Mayfair Travel to Taiwan (Sans Passport!) at Din Supper Club Located inside of the Bellagio, the phenomenal experience Tai Fung at The Mayfair Supper Club is inspired by supper clubs around the world. The Mayfair is more than just a restaurant, it’s a treat for every sense. With spectacular vocal, instrumental, and dancing performances, quirky food presentations, and flavors for every palate, guests will find this to be a high-energy, fully immersive dinner and show experience. Save room for “The Cigar” dessert which is a sweet, unique surprise. Reserve your experience in advance and book a stage-front table or a waterfront table overlooking the world-renowned Bellagio fountain show. Mayfair is open for dinner Wednesday through Sunday and the performance varies depending on times and days of the week.

FEBRUARY 2022
The extensive menu at Din Tai Fung can be intimidating, but the good news is that you really can’t go wrong with any dish. The offerings include a wide variety of dumplings, noodle, soup, fried rice, and bun options. And unlike many Taiwanese restaurants, Din Tai Fung offers plenty of choices for vegans and vegetarians. One of the interesting features of the restaurant is the glassed-in kitchen at the entrance which offers an insightful look at how dumplings are made. Din Tai Fung is located inside of ARIA and is open for lunch and dinner Monday through Sunday. The dress code is casual, and reservations are highly recommended.
Enjoy Nature (Sort of) at Park MGM
Step into what truly feels like a park at Park MGM. Green décor, plants galore, wall murals depicting park scenes, and large tree branches attached to the ceiling of the lobby make guests feel as though they just stepped into a naturefilled oasis. Park MGM prides itself in being the first smokefree casino resort on the Strip, mimicking the fresh air at parks. Not only does the hotel have seven restaurants, a spa, three pools, and a sportsbook, guests also have access to one of the most exclusive golf courses in Vegas, Shadow Creek. The Park’s Dolby Live hosts concerts and shows by the likes of Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars. Dog owners rejoice because Park MGM has specific dog-friendly rooms (for a fee) complete with a special Fido menu and a pet relief area. The best part about the hotel is that it’s more modest in size compared to other hotels on the Strip, making for easy in-and-out access to taxis and rideshares.
Splurge at a Michelin-Starred Restaurant Be Mesmerized at “O” by Cirque du Soleil Michael Mina’s splendor is tucked away in an unassuming corner of the Bellagio. Nothing short of outstanding, the seafood-centric menu offers items sourced from France, the Mediterranean, and Japan. The tasting menus do not disappoint, with favorite dishes being the caviar parfait, lobster pot pie, and the potato gnocchi with glazed king crab. Vegetarians can let out a sigh of relief because the restaurant also offers a vegetarian tasting menu. Savory dishes aside, the plated presentations are impressive on their own. The attire is elegant and dressy for women and collared shirts or polos for men. Michael Mina is open for dinner Wednesday through Sunday.
“O” by Cirque du Soleil blends surrealism, romance, and aquatics to birth a mesmerizing performance. Phonetically speaking, “O” is the French word for water, which is fitting as the cast of acrobats, trapeze artists, contortionists, synchronized swimmers, and high divers perform in, on, and above (we’re talking 60 feet above) a 1.5-million-gallon pool. It’s unbelievable to think all of this takes place in a 14th-century European-style opera house that was custom designed to meet the rare demands of the show. Tickets are available for purchase online 120 days in advance of the performance date.
Drive Bulldozers on a Supersized Playground Call us crazy, but this is exactly what it sounds like! At Dig This Vegas, choose between a variety of climate-controlled machines such as a Caterpillar bulldozer, skid steer, and excavator. Examples of exercises include building huge mounds, stacking 2,000-pound tires, digging trenches, and more. Each session begins with an overview of safety procedures, followed by a breathalyzer test and a hardhat and yellow vest fitting. After brief training, while in the machine, daredevils will begin a set of warm-up exercises followed by a series of games and then free time. Participants are always connected via a headset to instructors.

Have a Fabulous Meal at Zuma At Zuma, everything is about the experience. The décor integrates natural materials, the sushi counter is made of tree trunks from Thailand, the presentation of dishes is pleasing to the eye, and the food is mouth-watering. A wide selection of stylish dishes are served throughout the entire meal and are meant to be shared. Although the restaurant is influenced by Japanese izakaya, some savories encountered at Zuma are more flavor-forward than traditional Japanese cuisine. For an unforgettable experience, order the chef’s tasting menu. Zuma is located inside of the Cosmopolitan and is open for dinner Tuesday through Sunday. The dress code is smart casual.
At CATCH, it’s not just about the food, it’s also about the entire design. Between the neon lights that welcome you inside, the arched trellis walkway entrance, and the olive tree in the center of the restaurant, diners are awed before even taking a seat. Popular dishes include the truffle sashimi with tuna hamachi, chili oil, ponzu, caviar, and black truffle and the A5 Japanese Miyazaki wagyu with yuzu soy, garlic oil, Maldon sea salt, sesame cooked tableside on a hot stone. Order one of their whimsical desserts, and for once, foodies will be able to play with their food and eat it too. CATCH is located inside of ARIA and is open for brunch on Saturdays and Sundays and dinner Monday through Sunday. The dress code is smart casual (think of all the photos ops here) and online reservations can be made online.

FormerlyMe.com presents “On The Go: Hawaii”
WHAT IS FORMERLYME?
Jim West
FormerlyMe is an online movement to motivate and inspire people to become the best version of themselves by showing them my journey and experience in trying a new workout and lifestyle regime every 30 days. Every post, update, and video is ‘formerly me’ as I endeavor to become the best version of myself and become FormerlyMe. Each month CP Magazine will showcase a part of my journey to becoming the best version of myself. I hope that in turn this inspires and motivates you to start your own journey as well. For this month’s story we will focus on the “On The Go: Hawaii” days of my journey. 20
FEBRUARY 2022
Aloha! The greeting that means both hello and goodbye. It is meant to express many feelings of either love, affection, compassion, mercy, sympathy, pity, kindness or grace. Simply a beautiful word. I had lived in Hawaii when I was a kid, and been back many times to speak at security conferences there. This time would be a trip of pure exploration and pushing my limits with a hike to a waterfall.
I decided this trip I wanted to drive all the way around the island. I got to visit many viewpoints and take in some breathtaking views. I drive until the road just ended into a protected State Park. Below is the seashore at the road's end. Driving the roads along the ocean felt peaceful and serene. Hiking also had some awe inspiring moments. I felt a connection to nature and the treasures it has for us to see. Things that technology and social media can't feed our souls. Former NASA Astronaut, William Anders once said of his photo taken of earth rising to the moon, “We set out to explore the moon and instead discovered the Earth.". Now more than ever, I want to discover more treasures the earth holds.
The next day I went on a hike to see a waterfall. Manoa Falls is rated a easy hike due to most of the pathway being clear and steps along certain points. The entire hike takes typically about 1.5 hours and it is quite a tall waterfall. Park Officials warn to NOT drink the water or swim in the pool as people have gotten sick from bacteria in the water from animal waste.
Follow my journey online at FormerlyMe.com and on the YouTube channel. Next month I will cover my more unique experiences I had in 2021-2022. Until next time that has been FormerlyMe! facebook.com/FormerlyMe twitter.com/MeFormerly instagram.com/formerlymeofficial www.cpmagazine.net

The teacher, artist, and writer from Kuwait. Meet Fatema Albader - a teacher, artist, and writer from Kuwait. She like to work with limited color palettes and capture lights and shadows. Sitting in her studio on the roof of her house, we had great fun in interviewing her for our readers this month and know more about her art and writing.

Please introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi! My name is Fatema Albader. I am a middle school English teacher, artist, and writer. I’m from Kuwait, and — according to my parents — I learned how to draw before I could even walk. I’ve carried my passion for drawing and painting ever since. I love traveling and exploring new places as I cross them off my destination bucket list. I also love playing word games like crossword puzzles, Scrabble, and - recently - Wordle. My favorite things to do are the little things I do every day: making coffee with my awesome espresso machine, watering my many plants (I am a proud mother of one avocado tree, one lemon tree, and one chili pepper tree), teaching and making connections with my students, and cozying up with a good book in bed.
Tell us about your education.
I studied English literature and linguistics. I loved learning about the biological evolution of language, the way children and adults acquire words and speech, language and gender constructions, language in advertising, poetry, art, education, news media, television, text messaging, music, everything!
You are a writer and an artist. What came first and how do they tie together? This is kind of like answering, “What came first, the chicken or the egg?”. The best way for me to answer this question is to explain my connection with art and my art practice. I am a visual storyteller — whether that be through oil, acrylic painting, watercoloring, animation, or digital illustration. All my paintings start with a writing piece. Sometimes those pieces could be poems, and other times they are journal entries. I am always building visual narratives, often to complement and expand on my written ones, to connect with others, and to share with the world.
What do you write and what inspires your writing?
I write about my thoughts on education, both big and small. I have had a lot of light bulb moments in my years of teaching that I really enjoy documenting and sharing with others in the hopes of connecting
with and inspiring teachers and educators. Ever since I can remember, I have loved reading books and writing. Words have always intrigued and delighted me. My earliest memory of my fondness for words was when I was about 9 years old and my English teacher uttered her first idiomatic expression to us in class. “Hold your horses! I’ll be right there!” she said. Hold my horses? What horses?
How would you best describe your type of art?
My art is all about color and texture. You can really see that in my paintings. I also really love experimenting with shadows and lights. I like to work with limited color palettes and capture lights and shadows. All of my art captures moments and conveys messages that move me. If I see something beautiful, or hear a beautiful story, I feel so inspired to paint it. It’s like a magnetic pull to the canvas and a release of feelings.
What are memories?
your
favorite
childhood
When I think about my childhood my mind always goes back to my grandmother’s house. My favorite memories are playing football with my cousins in my grandmother’s backyard, riding our bikes to the mini co-op with 250 fils jingling in our pockets, afterschool basketball clubs, and all the sleepovers!
What is your favorite medium for producing your art? Digital or physical?
28
FEBRUARY 2022
Although I really love producing art through both, there is something so naturally satisfying about the way a brush feels in your hand as it pushes paint to form different textures on a canvas. You don’t get that same feeling with a digital pen. For my birthday, I got a virtual reality headset with a program called Tiltbrush, which gives me the ability to paint in 3D. That has also been super cool.

but eventually I recognize when it’s time to walk away and enjoy seeing the final piece.
Have you exhibited your work in any galleries?
During my SADI 2021 residency, my Sadu artwork was exhibited at Sadu House and Kuwait’s pavilion at Dubai Expo. This summer, I’ll be exhibiting my art work in A.I.R. Vallauris Gallery in Vaullaris, France and La Macina Di San Cresci Museum in Tuscany, Italy.
Where do you sell and display your work?
I have a website where I display my work, and I always share my artwork on Instagram. People will send me direct messages for pieces they are interested in buying and for commissioning artwork too.
What is the biggest challenge of being an artist? What are your favourite materials to use?
My favorite materials would probably be oil paints, mediums, and palette knives. Definitely pencil and eraser too.
Where do you take the inspiration for your work?
I think the best way for me to describe my art is to say that it is influenced by the appreciation for the ordinary, mundane moments of our lives. I think we really underestimate the value of celebrating the present moment, especially the dayto-day moments we all share. Making coffee in the morning, watching a child throwing a rock in a lake, a baker making the morning pastries at his shop, a conversation with a stranger on a bus, children making shadow puppets with their hands, the everyday ice cream man in his corner; all of these moments I believe are worthy of celebration and documentation. We only hire photographers for special occasions, but we don’t really capture the rich day-to-day experiences that make up so much of our life - which I think are just as important as winning an award, or graduating, or getting married.
Can you describe your studio?
It’s on the roof of my house, with one section that has floor to ceiling windows for maximum daylight exposure. There is an outdoors area as well, which I’ve furnished with two big gray bean bags, a wooden table, plants, and chairs. Sometimes I’ll see a beautiful sunset and feel like taking my canvas and easel outside to paint. Inside the studio, there are white walls, there is a bluish gray carpet, and a gray four seater sofa (I guess I like the color gray). There is also a gray marble sink in the corner for washing my brushes and hands. My art is all over the place; it’s on the walls, on the table, above the sink, and in the bathroom. There are paint stains on the white tiled floor and carpet (and curtain too). It will either smell like lavender, eucalyptus, or sweet orange, (depending on my mood that day) and the aromas come out of my dimly- lit Muji diffuser. I also have many indoor plants (some grown, most adopted) that sit on a wooden plant stand against the floor to ceiling window. It can get quite busy and messy, but all my things are super agile and easy to move around.
What is your process? Can you take us through your process from concept to final work?
30
I usually start by sketching my vision in my sketchbook. This is the part where I will use my imagination, often question my purpose, and experiment with different colors (using watercolors or acrylics because of their fast drying process). After that stage, I’ll move to my easel and start prepping my canvas. I’ll use my sketch for guidance - but will let my painting decisions be intuitive and try my best to trust the process. I never feel like I have truly finished a painting and always have a sense that I could do more -
FEBRUARY 2022
For me, a big challenge is finding time to paint. Another challenge I often find myself undertaking is trusting the process. I might be having a bad day, make a mistake, and want to abandon a piece and start over. But I think it’s in those moments that challenge me to sit back and find the courage to accept that mistakes are just part of the process, or as Bob Ross likes to call them “happy accidents”.
Your favourite quote?
It’s not a quote, but a verse from the holy Quran.
What are some of your other hobbies?
Making coffee in all its forms; lattes, Chemex drip coffee, French press, espresso. I also really enjoy singing. If there’s karaoke, I’m in. I also love camping, hiking, sailing and surfing. Is traveling a hobby?
What’s the best piece of advice you have heard and repeated to others? My high school history teacher always used to tell us, “You don’t know what you don’t know cause you don’t know that you don’t know it.” 15 years later, I finally get it and repeat it often.
What are some of your plans for the future?
My plans are to continue doing the things I love; teaching, traveling, painting, and drinking coffee. Maybe on a different planet, or in a different country.

Unique in so many ways, Croatia’s root stem from ancient times and its great cultural wealth tells of a turbulent history going back to the Roman era and continuing through the Renaissance, the baroque period and the Ottoman conquests right up to the present day, all of which is exceptionally appealing to all who visit the country. If we then add the rich cultural heritage, the amazing natural beauty which attracts visitors throughout the year, the 8 national parks, 12 nature reserves and the numerous UNESCO world heritage sites, Croatia truly becomes a country of incredible magnetic attraction. Over 50 music and film festivals that inspire even the most hesitant, many of them at locations that date back to ancient times, when Roman soldiers and emperor were walking along these trails and routes and Ottoman pasas were conquering the territory, when the world’s greatest writers were creating their masterpieces, and kings and dukes came to rest. Croatia’s attractions include beautiful beaches, one of the cleanest seas in the world, secluded bays, lakes and mystical mountain peaks, clean rivers and potable water, fantastic cuisine, prized wines and spirits, and a world-renowned cultural and natural heritage.
Croatia’s fertile plains, where freshly-picked fruits are grown which you can taste, the castles, museums and parks, river ports and family farms, freshly-baked bread whose aroma tempts one to try it over and over again. 34

Yes, Croatia is all that and so much more. It is home of the necktie, the parachute, the torpedo, the mechanical pencil, the filament light bulb, the world’s fastest electric car and the second oldest film festival in the world, the Dalmatian dog, Marco Polo, one of the oldest cities and parliaments in Europe, the second longest stretch of defensive walls in Europe, the smallest cathedral, the oldest arboretum, and the birth-place of great athletes. It is a country of exceptional strategic significance, a criss-cross of roads that connect the East and West of Europe, a beating artery, a country with a beautiful sea, green mountains, beautiful plains, rich fields and oil deposits. And last but no means least, the Croats themselves! The Croatian people and their kindness are a magnet that keeps drawing tourists back. Sometimes the hospitality of the locals will make you wonder whether you are in your own home or simple, on holiday in Croatia! www.cpmagazine.net

4 KEYS TO FOAM ROLLING LIKE A BOSS Love it or hate it, foam rolling is probably the best weapon you’ve got in your exercise routine. Self-massage with a foam roll or even a tennis ball! can increase range of motion while expediting nutrient-rich blood to your tired body, keeping soreness and stiffness at bay. Fatema AlOthman

Unlike static stretching of tight muscles, which can impair athletic performance, Foam rolling can provide relief without sacrificing your PR. In fact, foam rolling may even improve your performance. We showed that rolling every day after the damaging and painful exercise allowed the subjects to decrease the muscle soreness and recover their vertical jump height, muscle activation, and passive and dynamic ROM [range of motion] in comparison to no rolling during the DOMS
4 Benefits of foam rolling: * alleviates soreness. * reduces inflammation that occurs during the muscle repair process. * aids in muscle repair recovery. * helps injury prevention by maintaining muscle length and remedying tension and tightness Though many athletes know foam rolling is the right thing to do, most athletes don’t know how to do it right: How often should I do the foam roll? Does it matter how long a muscle gets rolled out? Want to know how to target specific muscles with self-massage?

FEBRUARY 2022
Talent Radar Words: JOSÉ BERROCOSO
“If you are prepared to work hard, and you trust your palate, it’s the most rewarding and creative job in the world. Go for it!”
Giovanni Nodari Serapian is the third generation of the Serapian family working to this day in the Maison founded in 1928. Born in Milan, Giovanni grew up in the Serapian Atelier, learning from a young age the importance of impeccable craftsmanship. Now, having been a part of the Maison for the past twelve years, he has developed an extensive and comprehensive knowledge of the leather goods industry from all sides. Prior to Serapian he completed his studies at the Luigi Bocconi University in Milan and worked for the Dunhill Maison as an assistant to the Product Manager in London. Now, as the current head of Serapian’s Bespoke Service, he oversees the VIP client orders both from the Atelier in Villa Mozart in Milan but also bringing the Bespoke Experience to clients internationally as well. Nodari Serapian is also responsible for protecting and sharing the Maison’s historical patrimony and extensive archive through various exhibitions and presentations. www.cpmagazine.net
41
We sit with Giovanni Nodari Serapian to learn more about SERAPIAN, the historic Milanese brand. CityPages Magazine: So your family was definitely into art
and fashion… When did you realize you really had an affinity for it too? Giovanni Nodari Serapian: I grew up in the world of leather goods and in fact I still remember when I was a child, the afternoons spent in our historic Atelier playing with the scraps of leather! However, before joining the company I had two experiences abroad, in completely different fields and it was during these that I realized I wanted to get back to my roots. Even before joining the Maison, all of the family discussions from Christmas to Summer Holidays were linked to the world of leather goods. It is not even a question of affinity but pure DNA!
CPM: What is the biggest achievement with the brand so far? GNS: In this globalized world, the main achievement was to stay
true to our roots and continue to offer our genuine authenticity along with a unique Bespoke service, the pulsating heart of the Maison since it was founded in 1928. Today as yesterday, this exclusive destination, where apron-clad master artisans turn dreams into reality, continues to attract an international clientele seeking something unique which will enable them stand out.
CPM: What is the creative process like for you? GNS: Being able to fulfil the wishes of our clients, attentively
listening their needs and then working closely with our Artisans to craft them the creation of their dreams! As I am in charge of the Bespoke service at Serapian, I really like to understand who I have in front of me to be able to offer the best suggestions for a creation which should represent them in the most accurate manner possible and ultimately is the pinnacle of this unique experience. Another facet of this is the opportunity to be able to work on exceptional projects for exceptional clients. An example I can share is when we recently renovated the interiors of an historical car: the 1930 Lancia Dilambda with our signature Mosaico craft. It was an amazing project, which culminated in the car winning the latest Concorso d’Eleganza of Villa d’Este!
CPM: What are some of the defining characteristics of your
handbags that make them different? GNS: I would say our “Milanese hand”, which essentially is our specific knowledge in producing beautifully fluid creations. An example of this ability is of course our signature craft from the ‘40s, called “Mosaico”. Mosaico is a unique weaving process completely handmade by our expert artisans using soft lamb nappa leather. This technique is a symbol of the artisanal craftsmanship, which distinguishes the Maison. Today the craft is made even more special because each Mosaico bag is signed on an inner tag by the Artisan who made it. As in the past, when the Master Artisans would leave their mark on their creations, this personal touch makes each creation truly unique.
CPM: Do you have a favourite bag? What can you tell us about the story behind it?
GNS: The Secret bag! This is among the most iconic creations of
Serapian, and its story starts in the 70s’ from a Bespoke request. A client was looking for a spacious and lightweight bag with a hidden pocket inside, hence the name “Secret” came to be. This unique creation is both for men and women who seek sophisticated elegance. 42

CPM: Could we say that Serapian is positioned as a niche luxury
brand? Tell us more about the positioning of the label. GNS: We used to say that our clients are the “real connoisseurs”, people who value high-quality, want the authenticity, and seek rarity. They don’t like to necessarily show-off, instead preferring discreet luxury. They want to purchase the best from every product category, like the watch from watchmakers, shoes from shoemakers…
CPM: Tell us about your latest collection, Spring Summer 22, “An
Oneiric Summer”. GNS: The Spring/Summer 22 collection is a tale of unsurpassed craftsmanship meeting the delicate poetry of a never-ending holiday. Our Mosaico universe features new shades inspired by the Italian riviera of Portofino, where my family used to go during the summer vacations. Colours range from refined hues of green and blue, recalling the sea tones of Golfo di Paraggi, or refreshing white and yellow giving the utmost summer touch.
CPM: SERAPIAN is famous for the Mosaico that uses Napa
leather, which was introduced in 1947. Are you surprised by how relevant it still is even today? GNS: I am not surprised because Serapian is the epitome of the highcraftsmashinp which is nowadays, for the discerning clients, more relevant than ever before. This is possible for several reasons such as the “Mestieri d’Arte” or know how of the Maison. The incredible palette of Mosaico colors we can offer to clients for their Bespoke (more than 54 different tones!) and finally the ability to craft lightweight creations for the clients who emphasize functionality and mobility.
CPM: What are your thoughts on materials? GNS: Materials, since from the founding of the Maison, are at the
heart of the high-quality offered to our clients. It all begins from the selection process with the best materials such as fluid and lightweight lamb nappa or soft Cachemire leather. This know-how is passed down from artisan to artisan and consequentially generation to generation. Nowadays, we have amassed one of the largest leather archives thanks to the materials collected overtime by both my great uncle Stefano Serapian and uncle Ardavast Serapian. This collection is also due in part to the trusting relationship we have established since the 40s with our partners and over the years has allowed us to find the best quality materials.
CPM: What’s next for you and your brand? GNS: We are developing what the future will look like for Bespoke
luxury leathergoods. In fact I observed a notable increase of bespoke requests in the past years due to a growing number of clients seeking something nobody else is able to find. Today, with the support of digital technologies, we are conducting Bespoke personalization with clients not necessarily being physically present. As an example, we have recently opened a pop-up at Ginza Six – Department store in Tokyo. There we sent a Bespoke trunk which serves as our Bespoke touchpoint for any client, regardless of their location. Now our Bespoke service can truly travel all over the world.
CPM: Where can our readers, including international readers, find your bags?
GNS: Online at: serapian.com, Net-a-Porter and Mr Porter. In Italy at
our boutique of Milan, Via della Spiga, and Roma, Via del Babbuino. Or for any Bespoke requests, at Villa Mozart in the very heart of Milan. While, in the rest of the world we have renowned partners like Tsum in Moscow, Harrods in London, La Samaritaine in Paris, Isetan in Tokyo… just to name a few. www.cpmagazine.net

As described by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, the Museum of the Future is “the most beautiful building on Earth”. It is a spectacular building that speaks Arabic, representing the revival of Arab excellence in the fields of science, mathematics and research, and an appreciation of the past Arab intellectuals that aims at resuming Arab civilization and renaissance. Rising 77 metres above the ground, the striking structure is an architectural marvel, built by using robotic technology and with an emphasis on sustainability. The building is powered with 4,000 megawatts of solar energy. The pillarless structure is home to seven unique and distinct floors. For its visitors, the museum comprises an unparalleled window to experience the future in all its aspects and dimensions.
The Museum of the Future employs the latest technologies of virtual and augmented reality, data analysis, artificial intelligence and human machine interaction. Answering many questions related to the future of humans, cities, societies, life on planet Earth and outer space, the museum’s exhibits orchestrate a world beyond human knowledge, providing visitors with innovative experiences unfold across five different exhibitions that explore the future of space travel and living, climate change and ecology, health, wellness, and spirituality. Coming face-to-face with never-seen-before space technology and getting introduced to humanity's home in outer space, the visitor’s journey begins in the depths of our solar system. Paying tribute to the inspiring Emirates Mars Mission project that saw the Hope Probe successfully enter Mars’ orbit last year, this exhibit compliments a crowning milestone for the UAE and the Arab World.
50
The Museum of the Future experience encourages its visitors to partake in special missions and, unlike a traditional museum that showcases fragments of the past, it provides FEBRUARY 2022
a portal to the future, in a scientific attempt to explore its variables, potential challenges and expected characteristics.
The immersive experience will also see its visitors in an entirely new environment as they are re-introduced to planet Earth, the future of healing, sustainability and bioengineering technology. Reflecting the UAE’s ongoing work in sustainability and environmental stability, this part of the visitors’ journey also highlights the UAE position as one of the first countries to announce its commitment to achieving climate neutrality by 2050, and a homage to the country’s efforts in planning to host the 28th United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 28) in Abu Dhabi in 2023. In an environment centred around health, wellbeing and the sense of self, visitors will embark on a peaceful and empowering journey, as light will be shed on reconnecting to human senses and learning to detach from the personal immense use of technology. The Museum of the Future will also showcase novel innovations from the near future through its partnerships with industry-leading companies and organisations to highlight emerging technologies and trends created for the betterment of humanity.
Believing that the future does not have an age preference, this museum will provide children with dedicated experience that encourages their youngest minds to explore and learn several future-proofing skills through an open-world experience, in a step that helps them to innovate, and allows them to create the future they look forward to and to be a pivotal part of its characteristics. As the new global scientific landmark and a beacon of knowledge, the Museum of the Future will become the headquarter to the ‘Great Arab Minds’ initiative, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in search for 1,000 great Arab minds.

Surf culture, skate aesthetics reminiscent of the 90s and organic materials come together in the new range of LMDI Collection. Atlantic Coast is the dream of any lover of the most comfortable and trendy footwear. The Spanish children's footwear brand LMDI Collection has recently presented its new Spring-Summer 2022 Collection, Atlantic Coast, in which it pays tribute to the days of beach, surf and skate in Galicia. In addition to its well-known cowboy boots, clogs and espadrilles, new sandals with nautical knots, moccasins, jelly sandals and other footwear options perfect for the summer season have been added. The collection was inspired by the beaches of Razo, Pantín, Patos, Doniños, Sabón, A Lanzada in O Grove and Rodas in the Cíes Islands, and this season also includes a selection of 100% cotton sweatshirts, which are a must on any northern beach, and accessories such as fisherman's hats, vynil visors, baseball caps and organic cotton bags to complete any look. Atlantic Coast is a nod to the lifestyle of skateboarders and surfers. Mercedes and Carmen Zaldívar, who founded LMDI Collection in 2016, wanted to show that way of life so well known and valued by sun and adrenaline lovers, between the natural and the urban, masterfully mixing styles as different as grunge aesthetics of the 90s with back-toschool pieces. A collection that mixes the main trends of the season including fabrics such as suede, leather, rustic fibres, organic cottons and all dyes are herbal or plant-based with no chemicals, for a very natural footwear. 1309 INTRODUCES THEIR LATEST COLLECTION
ABAYA DROP 6 Previously known for their fluid shapes and minimal embroidery, this new Abaya Drop 6 collection by 1309 introduces more fitted silhouettes, enhanced embroidery, and precise attention to detail which can be predominantly seen on their tulle scarf, one of this season’s bestsellers. Patchwork embroidery is yet another experimental and exciting creation this collection introduces, attaching various shapes such as the sun and moon to make their ‘Sol’ and ‘Dusk’ abayas. The vast universe, the essence of the astronomy, the sun, moon and the stars have been strong design elements of 1309 since the start. This collection also sums up the same theory in such a way that when a 1309 girl wears it, she lights up the room.
Inspired by the powerful 1309 women that are seen and heard in the media, the brand was inspired to design different types of silhouettes for all types of occasion – events, dinners, outings, and more. This season also introduces a vibrant new colour palette as well as various patterns and quilting techniques.
The ‘Gia trench coat abaya’ is a stunning new double-breasted silhouette featured in six colours. The lightweight suede abaya is also featured in four colours – black, nude, moss green and purple. Each abaya comes with a waist slimming belt and customized 1309 buttons. Two of their exciting previously-made prints are seen on these new abayas – the ‘swirly UFO’ and the ‘black eclipse-second edition’ which come with matching printed scarfs as well.

This collection also experiments with a variety of fabrics and patterns – ultra soft chiffon, lightweight suede, vegan leather, eyecatching double-sided fabric, checkered and patterned premium washed silk all have been introduced. The monochromatic play used in the ‘DAWN’ abaya consists of black and white matte and lustrous crepe joined sequentially paving way to sun rays. Furthermore, the brand loves including embroidery and elements to the scarf, thought to be similar to a social media filter. For instance, when a scarf is worn that sparkles, like the ‘head in the stars’ scarf, it beautifies the face and adds a special effect to your look – all for the girl to feel more beautiful and confident in her abaya.

What the Fireflies Knew by Kai Harris
Her Bartender Son, and the Humble Roots of a Dynasty
by Neal Thompson
Pure Colour by Sheila Heti
After her father dies of an overdose and the debts incurred from his addiction cause the loss of the family home in Detroit, almost-eleven-year-old Kenyatta Bernice (KB) and her teenage sister, Nia, are sent by their overwhelmed mother to live with their estranged grandfather in Lansing. Over the course of a single, sweltering summer, KB attempts to get her bearings in a world that has turned upside down--a father who is labeled a fiend; a mother whose smile no longer reaches her eyes; a sister, once her best friend, who has crossed the threshold of adolescence and suddenly wants nothing to do with her; a grandfather who is grumpy and silent; the white kids across the street who are friendly, but only sometimes. And all of them are keeping secrets. Pinballing between resentment, abandonment, and loneliness, KB is forced to carve out a different identity for herself and find her own voice. As she examines the jagged pieces of her recently shattered world, she learns that while some truths cut deep, a new life--and a new KB--can be built from the shards.
Their Irish ancestry was a hallmark of the Kennedys’ initial political profile, as JFK leveraged his working-class roots to connect with blue-collar voters. Today, we remember this iconic American family as the vanguard of wealth, power, and style rather than as the descendants of poor immigrants. Here at last, we meet the first American Kennedys, Patrick and Bridget, who arrived as many thousands of others did following the Great Famine—penniless and hungry. Less than a decade after their marriage in Boston, Patrick’s sudden death left Bridget to raise their children single-handedly. Her rise from housemaid to shop owner in the face of rampant poverty and discrimination kept her family intact, allowing her only son P.J. to become a successful saloon owner and businessman. P.J. went on to become the first American Kennedy elected to public office—the first of many.
Pure Colour is a galaxy of a novel: explosive, celestially bright, huge, and streaked with beauty. It is a contemporary bible, an atlas of feeling, and an absurdly funny guide to the great (and terrible) things about being alive. Sheila Heti is a philosopher of modern experience, and she has reimagined what a book can hold. Here we are, just living in the first draft of Creation, which was made by some great artist, who is now getting ready to tear it apart. In this first draft of the world, a woman named Mira leaves home to study. There, she meets Annie, whose tremendous power opens Mira’s chest like a portal—to what, she doesn’t know. When Mira is older, her beloved father dies, and his spirit passes into her. Together, they become a leaf on a tree. But photosynthesis gets boring, and being alive is a problem that cannot be solved, even by a leaf. Eventually, Mira must remember the human world she’s left behind, including Annie, and choose whether or not to return.
Heiresses: The Lives of the Million Dollar
The Impossible City: A Hong Kong
The Christie Affair
by Laura Thompson
by Karen Cheung
Heiresses: surely they are among the luckiest women on earth. Are they not to be envied, with their private jets and Chanel wardrobes and endless funds? Yet all too often those gilded lives have been beset with trauma and despair. Before the 20th century a wife’s inheritance was the property of her husband, making her vulnerable to kidnap, forced marriages, even confinement in an asylum. And in modern times, heiresses fell victim to fortune-hunters who squandered their millions. Heiresses tells the stories of these million dollar babies: Mary Davies, who inherited London’s most valuable real estate, and was bartered from the age of twelve; Consuelo Vanderbilt, the original American “Dollar Heiress”, forced into a loveless marriage; Barbara Hutton, the Woolworth heiress who married seven times and died almost penniless; and Patty Hearst, heiress to a newspaper fortune who was arrested for terrorism. However, there are also stories of independence and achievement: Angela Burdett-Coutts, who became one of the greatest philanthropists of Victorian England; Nancy Cunard, who lived off her mother's fortune and became a pioneer of the civil rights movement; and Daisy Fellowes, elegant linchpin of interwar high society and noted fashion editor.
An insider's account of Hong Kong--from its tenacious counterculture and robust underground music scene, to its unique history of youth-led protest--that explores what it means to survive in a city of broken promises. Nothing survives in this city. But in a place that never allowed you to write your own history, even remembrance can be a radical act. Hong Kong has long been known as a city of extremes: a former colony of the United Kingdom that today exists at the margins of an authoritarian, ascendant China; a city rocked by mass protests, where residents once rallied against threats to their democracy and freedoms. But it is also misunderstood and often romanticized, its history and politics simplified for Western headlines. Drawing richly from her own experience, as well as interviews with musicians, protesters, and writers who have made Hong Kong their home, journalist Karen Cheung gives us an insider’s view of this remarkable city at a critical moment in history—both for Hong Kong and democracies around the world.

Memoir
The Lonely Hunter: How the Search for Love Is Broken
by Aimee Lutkin In this crackling, incisive blend of memoir and cultural reporting, one woman's quest to answer the question When can I say I'll be alone forever? leads her to explore the unprecedented rise of single adults, our society's pathologizing of loneliness, and the purpose of dating. One evening, thirtysomething single writer Aimee Lutkin found herself at a dinner party surrounded by couples. When the conversation turned to her love life, Lutkin--who had dated on and (mostly) off for years--stated simply, I don't really know if I'm going to date anyone ever again. Some people are just alone forever. As her friends rushed to assure her that love comes when you least expect it and to recommend new dating apps, Lutkin wondered, Why, when there are more unmarried adults than ever before, is there so much pressure to couple up? Why is everyone so uncomfortable around single people? Why does it seem like your real life can't start until you meet The One? And is it possible to be single without being lonely? Over the course of the next year, Lutkin set out to answer these questions and to see whether there really was some trick for escaping loneliness out there. She went on hundreds of dates; read the sociologists, authors, and relationship experts exploring singlehood and loneliness; dove into the wellness industrial complex; tossed it all aside to binge-watch Netflix and eat nachos; and probed the capitalist structures that make alternative family arrangements nearly impossible.
The Violence
by Nina de Gramont
by Delilah S. Dawson
Nina de Gramont's The Christie Affair is a beguiling novel of starcrossed lovers, heartbreak, revenge, and murder—and a brilliant re-imagination of one of the most talked-about unsolved mysteries of the twentieth century. The greatest mystery wasn’t Agatha Christie’s disappearance in those eleven infamous days, it’s what she discovered. London, 1925: In a world of townhomes and tennis matches, socialites and shooting parties, Miss Nan O’Dea became Archie Christie’s mistress, luring him away from his devoted and wellknown wife, Agatha Christie. The question is, why? Why destroy another woman’s marriage, why hatch a plot years in the making, and why murder? How was Nan O’Dea so intricately tied to those eleven mysterious days that Agatha Christie went missing?
A mysterious plague that causes random bouts of violence is sweeping the nation. Now three generations of women must navigate their chilling new reality in this moving exploration of identity, cycles of abuse, and hope. Chelsea Martin appears to be the perfect housewife: married to her high school sweetheart, the mother of two daughters, keeper of an immaculate home. But Chelsea's husband has turned their house into a prison; he has been abusing her for years, cutting off her independence, autonomy, and support. She has nowhere to turn, not even to her narcissistic mother, Patricia, who is more concerned with maintaining the appearance of an ideal family than she is with her daughter's actual well-being. And Chelsea is worried that her daughters will be trapped just as she is--then a mysterious illness sweeps the nation. Known as The Violence, this illness causes the infected to experience sudden, explosive bouts of animalistic rage and attack anyone in their path. But for Chelsea, the chaos and confusion the virus causes is an opportunity--and inspires a plan to liberate herself from her abuser.
THE KING'S MAN Directed by Matthew Vaughn Written by Matthew Vaughn and Karl Gajdusek
Director Matthew Vaughn has a great film track record every since his breakout film Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels (1998). His film credentials are impressive and the Kingsman series has been pretty solid with just a few story mishaps. Often an author or writer can leave loose ends in a story, or forget to keep track of continuity issues. The film nails a lot of key moments in being a prequel film showing us how the Kingsman Agency was founded. Yet one major continuity issue exists and could've been easily resolved and led to the setup for more films with this cast in this growing franchise.
Here comes the spoilers.
During a Red Cross mission in South Africa a British man, Orlando Duke of Oxford, loses his wife during a sniper attack. Year later his son, Conrad, wants to join the army. Orlando has recruited two of his servants, Shola (Djimon Hounsou) and Polly (Gemma Arterton) into his secret spy network working to prevent the Great War. Having lost his wife to violence he uses his connections and influence to prevent his son from joining the army. Yet when he requests this directly from Lord Kitchener he instead gets asked to include his son in a meeting with Archduke Franz Ferdinand. During the visit, Conrad saves the Archduke from a bomb attack. Unfortunately later the attacker is able to gun down the Archduke and his wife sparking what would become World War I. We get introduced to a mysterious villain known as The Shepard. His face never revealed. He is orchestrating a series of events to bring about the war and cause more destruction. Lord Kitchener is on a boat to Russia when it gets destroyed by a torpedo killing him and all on board. Orlando takes Conrad and two of his personal agents along on a trip to kill Rasputin during a Christmas party. They succeed, but The Shepard orders the assassination of the Tsar and his family. Now the ending of the war is dependent upon the United States entering, which so far has stayed out of the conflict. British Intelligence intercepts the Zimmerman Telegram which the President wants solid proof before taking action.
Conrad is now of age and he enlists into the army. Orlando meets with King George V who then summons Conrad back from the front-lines. Conrad instead sends another soldier in his place. Conrad volunteers for a deadly mission to bring back the intelligence that has the proof the US President needs to join the war. Conrad secures the intel, but is mistaken for a German spy due to the false identity he assumed to stay on the front-line and is immediately killed. Orlando and his team learns the Prettiness still won't enter the war due to being blackmailed by the Shepard. They go after the woman in the video with the president and see she wears a rare cashmere that is only made in a certain place and they go there to find the Shepard. The Shepard is discovered to be the aide-de-camp of Lord Kitchener. Here is where continuity and a major loose end gets revealed. How did the Shepard meet with his agents and serves as a Lord's aide-decamp? Anyone with any military experience at all understands the demands and lack of free time a aide-de-camp has. Especially to be traveling between wherever the mountaintop he lived on and Britain. What SHOULD HAVE occurred to fix this issue is to have the Shepard never be revealed and the aide-de-camp was the mole in the British side. The rest of the film can play out the same with a minor tweak to the mid-credits scene to still keep the identity of The Shepard hidden. The identity of the Shepard could be revealed in a later film which surely they plan to do with a teaser of Adolf Hitler at the end. This is a common issue with writing that you can easily lose track of time to actually do certain things like travel place to place. Take Lord of the Rings. They had to travel for weeks to get from point A to B. In the early 1900s travel was not as fast as it is today. Time to be in two different places at once is what defeats the story of this film and doesn't elevate the mystery of the villain in the shadows. I think they missed a great opportunity to establish a villain for several films. This is what is missing from films these days. Let a villain be
manipulative and strong enough to live to fight another day or series of films. Thanks for reading Writing Movie ‘WRONGS’.

LEO
February 4 will be an especially lucky day for you as your ruling planet Mars blows a kiss to auspicious Jupiter. These vibes will be especially beneficial to your professional life, making it important that you take serious steps toward your goals even if you’re not completely sure what the outcome will look like. Meanwhile, the sun and Saturn form a cosmic alliance that asks you to take on more leadership roles, especially where your community is concerned. Passion and romance will hang thick in the air as fiery Mars and romantic Venus cozy up in the sky on the sixteenth. This planetary alliance is perfect for heating things up in the most romantic week of the year, dear Aries, so be sure to pull out all the stops when it comes to sweeping bae off their feet. If you’re currently single, this energy can be facilitated to recommit to a passion project and practice radical self-care.
(April 20 - May 20)
TAURUS February 7 will be a busy day for you, little Bull, because the Taurus moon aligns with innovative Uranus while sharing helpful aspects to both Mars and Venus. These celestial connections could affect you on a profound level, helping you grasp your purpose in life. An additional connection between transformative Pluto and the north node could motivate you to make some serious changes on both personal and spiritual levels. Listen to your heart, let the universe guide you right now, and beautiful opportunities will soon find their way to you. If you’re having a hard time following directions from the other side, stay away from anything that doesn’t inspire you or ignite passion from within. This fated theme repeats on the eighteenth, when an earthy grand trine manifests in the cosmos, echoing destiny’s call on February 7. Divine inspiration will come your way, prompting you to get creative while moving forward boldly with your goals. If ever there were a time to put your faith in the universe, it is this day.

GEMINI If you’ve been feeling disorganized or like you’ve been slogging through mud over the past few weeks, things will start to get much better when your ruling planet Mercury ends its retrograde journey on February 3. This shift gives you a chance to break cycles and move forward with your evolution. And a helpful alliance between the Aquarius sun and Saturn can help you reassemble personal structures, especially when it comes to your spirituality and connection with the universe. More change will come your way when Mercury moves from serious Capricorn to quirky Aquarius on the fourteenth. Divine inspiration will be a welcome side effect of this planetary placement, heightening your psychic abilities and creative instincts. You’ll also notice that people are more open to your advice and wisdom, though you’ll need to be mindful that you’re not crossing any boundaries with unsolicited perspectives. Be particularly mindful of this sentiment on February 21, when the Scorpio moon shares a tense aspect with the planet of communication, putting people in a private and temperamental mood.
(June 21 - July 22)
CANCER Your focus will be relationship-oriented this month, dear Cancer, because four planets are camping out in the sector of your chart that rules matters of the heart. However, this doesn’t mean that you’ll need to throw yourself into your love life. In fact, major themes around prioritizing yourself now come into play. On February 6, check in with yourself to make sure you’re not slacking on your professional goals in favor of date nights and romance. However, you should embrace love in all its forms during the week when sweet Venus and passionate Mars form an alliance in the cosmos on the sixteenth. Insecurities within yourself or your relationships could bubble up to the surface during the Leo full moon on February 16. Watch out for fragile egos, jealousy, and moodiness during this time, but try not to bend over backward to accommodate someone’s sensitive side if they’re being unreasonable. Relationships may crumble on this date, but only if they’re not meant to stand the test of time.

FEBRUARY 2022
Look for ways to mix up your love life and self-care regimen this month, dear Leo, because the Aquarius sun shines its light on the sector of your chart that rules love. These quirky vibes ask you to embrace unknown experiences and concepts, opening your mind in new and exciting ways. Intellectual conversations will be at the center of any romantic connections worth nurturing right now, especially once Mercury leaves Capricorn and heads into your solar seventh house on February 14. The full moon on the sixteenth is especially charged for you, with Luna camped out in your sign. You might feel some competition brewing between you and your partner, but you’ll need to make sure that the vibe doesn’t turn contentious. The only way to healthily move forward in your relationship is to support one another. If you feel like your significant other or crush isn’t able to celebrate your successes, you might want to consider moving on.
(August 23 - September)
VIRGO You’ll want to get a head start on your spring cleaning this month, dear Virgo, because the Aquarius sun shines its light on the sector of your chart that rules organization, daily routines, and health. However, don’t put too much pressure on yourself to get everything in order until your ruling planet Mercury ends its retrograde on February 3. The eleventh is an extremely powerful day for you as Mercury cozies up to transformative Pluto while sharing a sweet aspect to the nodes of fate. Get serious with yourself about what it is you really want in life, and take some time to consider if any people, situations, or behaviors are standing in the way of your highest potential. This vibe could get a little cutthroat since you won’t be in the mood to play around with your well-being and future. Don’t feel guilty about moving on with your life, even if some of the people around you are less than thrilled about it. Unexpected opportunities will find you when the Virgo moon shares connections to auspicious Jupiter and unpredictable Uranus on February 17. Try not to get overwhelmed with detail right now, even if the universe takes you by surprise. It will also be important that you not get in your head about the work yet to come even if your to-do list seems to grow with each second.
(September 23 - October)
LIBRA Your solar fourth and fifth houses see the most astrological action this month, dear Libra, with six celestial bodies making their way through Capricorn and Aquarius. You’ll feel drawn to the comforts of your own home above all else, though your friends will still manage to lure you away for the occasional night of fun. Luckily, keeping a balance should come easily right now, especially if you find a creative outlet to help you stay grounded. Whether you’re single or in a relationship, plan on spending Valentine’s Day at home with some cozy clothes, delicious food, and perhaps a bit of wine. An alliance between Mars and your ruling planet Venus this week turns up the heat in your love life, which could inspire you and bae to discuss the possibility of moving in together or joining your finances. If you’re riding solo right now, use this energy to amp yourself up with activities or passion projects that build your confidence.
(October 23 - November)
SCORPIO Make sure you communicate your needs clearly this month as Mercury and Venus find their way through your solar third house. Just make sure you’re gracefully articulating your disposition, dear Scorpio, or people might mistake your requests for demands. Putting up boundaries will also be important throughout the month, even if they’re with people you want to remain close with. You can sometimes get too wrapped up in your relationships, little Scorpion, and right now the universe wants you to take a bit of space. February 8 brings unexpected fun your way as your ruling planet Mars blows a kiss to wild card Uranus. This day is perfect for reconnecting with your passionate and free side, inspiring you to break out of your normal routine. If you’re in a relationship, this is a great day to reserve for a date so you can make the most of the time you do share with your heart’s desire. If you’re currently single, consider taking one of your besties out for a thrilling night of reasonable mischief.
(November 22 - December)
SAGITTARIUS Take some time to map out what the year ahead looks like for you financially, dear Sagittarius. With four planets making their way through Capricorn and activating the sector of your chart that rules money, it will be important to get real about your resources. Make a solid plan to pay off any debts you’ve racked up. And if there are any major purchases that you need to make before year’s end, figure out the best time for you to do so. The Leo full moon on February 16 could be an inspiring time for you as Luna shines a light on the sector of your chart that rules spirituality. You’ll feel alive and brimming with potential, but you’ll need to stay grounded to reap the benefits of this lunar event. A cacophony of ideas could flood your mind, making it important that you journal or take notes on any brilliant ideas that crawl out of your psyche. Don’t feel like you need to commit to one path right now, but be honest with yourself about what is and is not a realistic timeline for your brewing goals. While you’re riding this energetic high, the people around you might feel overwhelmed and irritable, so try to be considerate of how much you’re throwing at others right now.
(December 22 - January 19)
CAPRICORN February asks you to appreciate your beauty and the beauty that surrounds you as sweet Venus continues to travel through your sign. Plugging into your gratitude will also work wonders for your psyche, dear Capricorn, inspiring you to participate boldly in life. These vibes are also perfect for unapologetically going after the things you want, a sentiment exacerbated by the placement of Mars in your sign. Your love life will also get a nice pick-me-up this month, helping you win the affections of anyone you’ve had your eye on recently. The Aquarius sun and your ruling planet Saturn form a cosmic alliance on February 4, shining a light on your finances. Look at this cosmic current as an opportunity to make smart investments, even if it’s only in a quality pair of new shoes. Make a personal vow to get rid of any junk that’s collected over the years, and resolve to acquire fewer, nicer things moving forward. Play with your personal style when the Taurus moon aligns with innovative Uranus on the seventh, sharing supportive aspects to Venus and Mars. This is an opportune date to give yourself a makeover and perhaps take a few risks with your hair color or wardrobe choices.
(January 20 - February 18)
AQUARIUS It’s your time to shine, dear Aquarius, as the sun makes its way through your sign, boosting your popularity, confidence, and energy levels. With your birthday season in full swing, you’ll be thinking of what you’d like to manifest in the year ahead and what it will take to get there. Use the energy when structure-loving Saturn cozies up to the sun on February 4 to outline a series of reasonable landmarks you’d like to hit each month. The universe wants to open doors for you right now, but you’ll need to remember that using hard work, planning, and dedication is the only surefire way to actualize your goals. While much of the month could leave you tied up with social engagements, plotting for the future, and having fun, you’ll feel a shift when the sun changes signs into watery Pisces on the eighteenth. It would be wise to take a look at your financial habits over the next several weeks. You might even want to download a spending tracker to keep tabs on your purchases. If things are a little unbalanced when it comes to spending money on brunches or nights on the town with your pals, resolve to divide each bill equally moving forward rather than operating off the “I’ll get you next time” system.
(February 19 - March 20)
PISCES It’s okay if you need to take a step back from your family and friends for the first half of the month, dear Pisces, as a series of celestial bodies make their way through your solar twelfth house. These vibes ask you to carve out some quiet time for introspection, so you can gain a clearer understanding of yourself, your goals, and your relationships. Just try not to totally cut yourself off from the people who care about you most lest they begin to worry about your well-being. Your ruling planet Jupiter shares a supportive aspect to revolutionary Uranus on February 17, giving you the gusto to make some quick and serious changes. The sun enters your sign the next day, acting as a breath of fresh air after the emotional roller coaster that was Aquarius season. The good vibes will continue to flow as an earthy grand trine between the moon, north node, and Pluto manifests in the sky on the eighteenth, inspiring you to take control of your destiny. However, the catch is that you’ll need to shed your skin, which could require you to let go of toxic relationships or behavioral patterns.
