So it's been a very exciting time at CCHQ! First off, I'm sure lots of you will have seen that in March we made the big TV move to Hochanda (Home of Crafts Hobbies and Arts). Like us, Hochanda understands that for many of you crafting is much more than a hobby – it’s your passion and Hochanda share our vision – to teach you, inspire you and share our knowledge and experience with you. So come and join us for plenty of crafty fun and inspiration! Then there's our brand new Crafter’s Companion retail centre opening in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham on Saturday 30th April. The core of the centre’s ethos is education, so there will be workshops and demos every day, as well as gorgeous papercraft and sewing products to tempt you! And we're giving you the chance to win a £250 shopping spree at the new store, including an overnight stay in a hotel and a workshop with me! Full details on page 21. To celebrate all this good news, this issue we wanted to bring you lots of lovely bright and cheery projects that can easily be recreated with a little helping hand from our fabulous Design Team. I've been busy creating lots of new ranges in my Signature Collection and we're including papers from three of the collections in the kit this time – Just for Men, Together Forever and English Country Garden, meaning we've got a whole host of occasions covered. On page 56 you'll find my ideas for Father's Day, as well as a few snaps of the favourite men in my life! Turn to page 50 to make the stunning neverending card featured on our front cover, created with the English Country Garden papers on your free CD. Get creative with your free dies and embossing folder with Karen Foy's 10 pretty papercraft ideas on page 62 and if you fancy trying something new, how about Fiona Clayton's fantastic Bokeh background technique tutorial on page 22? I can't wait to see what you make, so stay in touch at dearsara@craftersinspirationmag.com. Don't forget – every letter published wins a prize!

Sara Davies started Crafter's Companion in 2005 with the launch of The Enveloper, which she developed while still at university! Since then Sara's love of craft has seen her create the Ultimate Pro, Rock-a-Blocks and most recently the Gemini – Crafter's Companion's first electric die-cutting machine – and the Diamond Press mini die-cutting machine.

Sam Healey Sam has been crafting for over seven years and she now sells her cards at craft fairs and on Etsy. She enjoys being part of both the Die’sire and Spectrum Noir design teams at Crafter’s Companion.

Using this simple technique, Sam shows you how to create two different exploding petal designs – a hexagon and a star – with detailed step-by-steps to guide you. Then, following the same techniques, Sam has created two variations to show you how you can develop the idea further. 36

WITH LOVE HOW TO MAKE Make a 17.8x17.8cm (7x7in) Kraft card base. Print your choice of papers from the Verity Rose collection on the free CD onto Printable Light Card. Mat and layer two squares of Verity Rose papers and one smaller square of cream hammered card onto Kraft card, distressing and inking the edges using Faded Jeans Distress Ink as you go. Stick to the inside back of the card base. Cut two more squares of Verity Rose papers, one 17x17cm (6¾x6¾in) and one 13.5x13.5cm (5¼x5¼in). Distress and ink the edges. Stick the larger square to the card front. Mat the smaller square onto Kraft card and add lace to the top and bottom. Stick to the card front on an angle, as shown. Die-cut a large scalloped circle of Kraft card and emboss with the Decadent Rose folder. Buff with Pearlescent Sky Blue ink and stick to the lacy square on the card front. Following the steps on page 36, cut out three exploding hexagon petals in ascending sizes, so that each will fit inside the next size up (to create the different templates, simply print the template slightly smaller each time). From the Verity Rose papers, cut out petals and central hexagons to fit each of the layers, ink the edges using Distress Inks and stick in place. Stick the petal shapes one inside the other, smallest petals first. Make a flower using Verity Rose papers and the Die’sire Forget Me Not die. Stick in the centre of the smallest exploding hexagon. Paint with Glossy Accents and allow to dry. Stick a pearl in the centre. Fold all the petals in and ‘lock’ each layer by tucking the last petal under the previous one. After closing the outer layer, use 3D glue gel to attach a decorative button to act as a latch to pull open the outer flower. Use the Sara Signature Butterfly Lullaby Collection die to die-cut ‘With Love’ from Kraft card and Verity Rose paper. Layer the Kraft card greeting onto the card base and stick the patterned greeting on top, off-setting slightly, as shown. Add pearl hearts to finish.

FABULOUS DAY HOW TO MAKE Take a piece of white hammered A4 card, score in half and then fold and cut down to make a square card blank. Print your choice of papers from the Verity Rose Collection onto Printable Light Card. Cut two 14.5x14.5cm (5¾x5¾in) squares of paper and two 11x11cm (4¼x4¼in) squares of paper. Edge the paper pieces with Spectrum Noir alcohol marker shade BP7 [1]. Mat the smaller squares onto white card. Wrap one of the smaller squares with a strip of ribbon. Layer the smaller squares onto the larger squares. Stick one panel to the inside back of card base and stick the panel with the ribbon to the card front [2]. Make a 9in equilateral triangle from cream hammered card. To do this, draw a 9x9in square onto your card and cut in half diagonally. Use a pencil to mark 3in, 4.5in and 6in along each side. Use a scoreboard to score between these points to create three 3in equilateral triangles on each point and a 4½in equilateral triangle in the centre. Rub out the pencil marks and fold the scorelines [3].

Using the templates downloaded from www.crafterscompanion.co.uk/ci10downloads, cut pieces of patterned papers to fit the six outer sections of the scored triangle (you will need three triangles and six ‘roof’ shapes). Edge with your Spectrum Noir marker then stick the three triangles and three of the ‘roof’ shapes to the ‘petal’ sections so they are visible when the petals are folded inwards. Turn the triangle over and stick the remaining three roof shapes in place (these will be visible when you open your ‘petals’) [4]. Stamp a sentiment using VersaMark ink and heat emboss with your choice of powder (we used the ‘Hope your day...’ greeting from the Die’sire Sentimentals Imagine stamp set with hot pink embossing powder). Use the smallest triangle template to cut this into a triangle and mat and layer onto a larger patterned triangle, edging in pink as you go. Stick inside the exploding petal shape [5]. Close the petals and ‘lock’ shut by tucking one edge of each petal under the next. Then attach the pop-out star to the front of your card, making sure one of the points is facing down towards the bottom of the card,

YOU’RE A STAR HOW TO MAKE Take a 12.5x17.8cm (5x7in) Kraft card blank, score the front at 6.25cm (2½in) and fold to make an easel card blank. Print your choice of papers from the Verity Rose Collection onto Printable Light Card. Cut panels measuring 14.5x10cm (5¾x3⅞in), 17x12cm (6¾x4¾in) and 17x5.5cm (6¾x2¼in). Ink the edges using Walnut Stain and mat and layer onto pink card. Stick the largest piece to the inside back of the card base. Wrap the next-sized piece with ribbon and stick on top. Stick the narrow strip to the front flap of the easel. Take a 17x2.5cm (6¾x1in) strip of pink card, stick a line of Red Liner Tape along the centre and then take a piece of ribbon and twist and fold it along the length of the card. (We also ran a little Tacky glue under the ribbon when finished to make sure it was secure). Adhere the strip to the front of the card, as shown. Following the steps on page 38, make an exploding star from Kraft card and cover the sections with Verity Rose papers, inked and matted onto pink card. Use alphabet dies to die-cut a message from pink card and Kraft card. Stick the pink letters inside the exploding star using Tacky glue then layer the Kraft card letters on top, off-setting them slightly for a shadow effect. We chose ‘You’re a star’ and added faux stitching to the central ‘a’ using a fineliner pen. Close the petals of your exploding star and ‘lock’ shut by tucking one edge of each petal under the next. Stick your exploding star to the front flap of the easel, as shown, using foam pads to lift it above the twisted ribbon strip. (Make sure one of the points is facing down towards the bottom of the card, otherwise it will stop your easel from standing up.) Add a star embellishment to the inside back of the card base as an easel stopper and add a ribbon bow, pearl flower and pearls, making sure that when you stick them to the petals of your star, the star still closes.
